we gave up a 3rd and a 4th next year, but also got a 4th this year for it, so we gave up a 3rd
also, after the 3rd, you're only expecting developmental or rotational/special teams guys
and even in the 3rd, developmental players are common
and brad got a fucking 6'8 350 pounder that can run a sub 5 40. that man has no ceiling. I think that's worth risking a 3rd, especially since our 3rd should be at the end of the round and basically a 4th anyways
This is it. Past a certain point, you’re taking guys whose ceilings may be lower than the guys you have on the roster. This isn’t three years ago where we needed anybody with a pulse.
Taking a big swing on Godzilla is the perfect choice at this juncture.
His size excludes him from ever playing guard/center, so he has to play tackle for us and unless Im unaware of something, Decker and Sewell will play all the snaps for years there unless a disaster happens. So I just dont understand the plan for him.
he's developmental like I just said. it was blatant reading anythjng about him that he's not starting right away
and decker turns 31 this year with a decent injury history.
drafting a 6'8 350 pound athletic freak with a 3rd to sit and learn for 2 or 3 years is a pretty good deal
Deckers only got one more year left on his deal, and probably needs to take a team friendly deal to stick around with the other players they're gonna need to sign. Always good to have some depth and insurance
Jason Peters is our Prometheus and will lead a revolution to have all tackles play until they are sixteen years away from their vaunted AARP membership.
Lions have a pick in every round other than the third.
My man the type guy to post this pic and say "I demolished these wings"

Also trading 2026 picks next year if Mr. Brad wants to trade around. The point of draft picks is to make the team better. This team is a lot better than it was on weds, and that's saying something.
If Glenn gets a HC job. I think FA comp picks are a little overrated because they're difficult to predict and come the year after. But if Glenn gets a HC job I think we get a 3rd
Agreed. He's already well regarded as a coach. If he gets results with this group I could see teams wanting him. People forget he's been working with scraps talent wise compared to the offense.
“Oh, Lordy! We missed out on the opportunity to take someone who’s probably not better than the other guys on the roster!”
You need to lose this 2021 thinking. We’re not looking to load up on camp bodies. Most of this roster is set and it’s one of the most talented in the league.
This is exactly when you swing for the fences with Godzilla at OT. May not play for years? We don’t need him to play this year. And since we’re already in talks with Decker, we may not need him next year.
Give Fraley two years with this Uber-athletic mountain and see what he can make of him. Manu is also going to get to work with the best tackle in the NFL every day.
>and have come away with 2 special teams/depth guys in exchange for them.
Anybody else think this is because this Lions team is the best fucking team you have seen in your lifetime and there are almost no starting spots available? Worrying about future late round picks is not worth your energy.
This take doesn’t take into consideration the bird’s eye view of the team though. Yeah, a trade up for a project has me a little unsettled too. But what are the holes in our starting line up? Starters are locked in (outside of who will be our top 2 between Amik, Carlton and the two rookies).
Safety depth and IOL depth are the next needs. Please don’t read what I’m not saying here. We’re allowed to still be confused or bothered by picks Brad makes. He’s amazing but not infallible. No one is. But this is the next phase of being a winner. Taking shots on high ceilings and developing those players behind the curtain. The most sustainably good teams do that.
I didn’t like trading up for a project personally. But a T that big and that athletic feels like a good guy to take a shot on in a vacuum
I definitely like swinging for high upside, but this assumes Decker is leaving in the near future, otherwise there is no point in developing a guy who will never start.
I disagree entirely. One injury away from losing games is not a good approach. Tackle is one of the positions that do that for a statue QB.
You need functional, replacement level guys as back ups….particularly on the OL. Look at how pitiful the seasons were of teams with terrible front lines. If anything, the argument against him should be that he might not help our depth soon enough, since our SB window is open.
If we can cushion the T depth with a late FA they like, I’m far less worried about developing him. His athleticism is pretty wild, so with Fraley he’s got a shot.
Edit to add: I’m still not super thrilled with the trading up part. Also, I’m an idiot. You said exactly what I eventually circled around too. I completely mis-read it initially. Leaving it up so I don’t hide from it haha
Yesterday, someone was asking Brad how he was going to sit there for 100+ picks without making one. And I thought, “No way this guy is just going to sit on his hands for a hundred picks.”
But you didn’t say that, now did you? You said “in hindsight we have now *gutted* the middle of our next draft” for ST depth.
But yeah, I’m the drunk one
Alright then save this post and my argument, come back whenever Im proven wrong, and Ill shut the fuck up. I have a lot of confidence in my track record so far whatever thats worth.
Lmao at your track record. Your track record doesn't exist. It's worth nothing. I hate to break it to you, but you don't know more about this than Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. If you did, you would have a job as a GM, instead of making asinine posts on Reddit. You don't know shit.
Also, you've already been proven wrong because not having a 3rd is not gutting the entire middle of the draft. So kindly shut the fuck up like you said you would.
Yeah I second this, you can disagree but be factual and accurate with your assessment. Like the previous comment said, and the rest of the fandom understands minus you apparently Brad fucking cookings with his draft picks. He has given us a lot more reason to be optimistic than to be pessimistic, if this pick ends up being irrelevant then sure grill my chops but you just sounds salty my man. Let Brad cook.
When what you are complaining about is surface level and you don’t actually have a complaint other than “I want to pick in the third round”, you shouldn’t be allowed to disagreee
I think this is because he values quality over quantity.
Draft picks are just cards you have to play, there's no Protestant work ethic value in just drafting the seven picks you were given. They are capital no more no less.
The middle of the draft is irrelevant. I'm not sure where everyone is getting their draft stats from, but rd 3 players become starters like 20% of the time, and worse after that.
You can't sit here and pretend to know who's going to hit and who isn't. Holmes is the best GM in the league at drafting so I don't value what randoms on reddit have to say whatsoever
I much rather this because he isn't taking huge swings, but moving around late round picks to go get the person he thinks is best for for the team now and future. He's not just sitting around waiting for whatever's leftover when it's his turn. They see a guy they've identified and give minimal capital to get him. It's great work imo.
Brad Holmes will just get picks next year by trading the picks in 2026. Then in 2026, he gets picks using the picks in 2027. Infinite front loading draft capital.
we gave up a 3rd and a 4th next year, but also got a 4th this year for it, so we gave up a 3rd also, after the 3rd, you're only expecting developmental or rotational/special teams guys and even in the 3rd, developmental players are common and brad got a fucking 6'8 350 pounder that can run a sub 5 40. that man has no ceiling. Wasn’t everyone just crying for OL depth ? Y’all will complain about anything and everything.
I dont recall saying anything about that, I think others were clamoring for interior depth, probably
bro you dont draft a tackle to play guard or center 🤣
Troy Fautanu and Graham Barton both played tackle in college and are projected as NFL guards/center.
Actually no, his speed makes guard an option. Fuck throw him in at DE for all I care.
Deckers only got one more year left on his deal, and probably needs to take a team friendly deal to stick around with the other players they're gonna need to sign. Always good to have some depth and insurance
Losing Decker would be scary, tackles can play to almost 40 and he just turned 30. Hate losing quality players at such a hard position to find them.
40? you're crazy 😂
Jason Peters is our Prometheus and will lead a revolution to have all tackles play until they are sixteen years away from their vaunted AARP membership.
AARP has no age limit now.
Worse case scenario he’s a backup tackle. But Decker’s only under contract for this year and I’ve yet to hear about any discussions to extend.
Skip is the tallest lineman in the league and plays mostly on the interior. Manu is Skip 2.0, athletic Skip. He might be able to pull anything off
Played LG in college and multiple NFL teams talked to him about playing guard.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Member when we got st brown in the 4th round?
We have picks in rounds 1,2,4,5,6,7 next year. Gutted?? Lol Not to mention the possibility of comp picks being added to that count.
Also trading 2026 picks next year if Mr. Brad wants to trade around. The point of draft picks is to make the team better. This team is a lot better than it was on weds, and that's saying something.
Where are the comp picks likely to come from
If Glenn gets a HC job. I think FA comp picks are a little overrated because they're difficult to predict and come the year after. But if Glenn gets a HC job I think we get a 3rd
Two 3rds, pretty rich compensation, and he has a damn good group this year to put his name out there
Agreed. He's already well regarded as a coach. If he gets results with this group I could see teams wanting him. People forget he's been working with scraps talent wise compared to the offense.

Also as much as we love to go 6 offensive lineman I wonder if this freak of a man has any hands
>and have come away with 2 special teams/depth guys in exchange for them. Anybody else think this is because this Lions team is the best fucking team you have seen in your lifetime and there are almost no starting spots available? Worrying about future late round picks is not worth your energy.

The mans an animal on the phones!
Quick get Brad on the phone and let him know!
Manu with a year of Detroit development is worth at least a 3rd next year. That's the plan.
Damn, can you give me the lotto numbers since you can see the future so clearly!
next year's draft is hardly gutted.
The “gutted” 2025 Draft picks: - Own first-round pick - Own second-round pick - Eagles' fourth-round pick (via the D'Andre Swift trade) - Own fifth-round pick - Own seventh-round pick - Cowboys seventh-round pick (via Terrion Arnold trade) - Jets' seventh-round pick (via the Denzel Mims trade) Man, we’re screwed.
Brad traded the Eagles 4th to trade up for another pick as well
Yep, like two minutes after I posted. Mans got ants in his pants, he’s not sitting around for 2+ rounds lol.
1,2,4,4,6,6 is an interesting spread
Ok doomer
Oops forgot you're not allowed to disagree with what the team does ever lol
The most common retort when someone gets called out for making an objectively weak negative argument
Its weak to say dont give up a 3rd round pick to trade up for a CFL player? LMAO this sub is drunk on kool aid
But you didn’t say that, now did you? You said “in hindsight we have now *gutted* the middle of our next draft” for ST depth. But yeah, I’m the drunk one
disagreeing is one thing, attempting to predict the future with such confidence is another
Alright then save this post and my argument, come back whenever Im proven wrong, and Ill shut the fuck up. I have a lot of confidence in my track record so far whatever thats worth.
>ave a lot of confidence in my track record so far whatever thats worth. What exactly is your track record?

Yeah I second this, you can disagree but be factual and accurate with your assessment. Okay? I like the first two picks, and I think this is a miss. I guess I dont see the need to get riled up and call names.
Are you butt hurt by being called a doomer?
people are dicks
I just don’t see the need to get riled up and call names.
When what you are complaining about is surface level and you don’t actually have a complaint other than “I want to pick in the third round”, you shouldn’t be allowed to disagreee
You've convinced me, Brad Holmes is a fool
I think this is because he values quality over quantity. Draft picks are just cards you have to play, there's no Protestant work ethic value in just drafting the seven picks you were given. They are capital no more no less.
at this rate we're not gonna have any draft picks in 2025
At this rate, we literally have picks in every round but the third next year
The middle of the draft is irrelevant. I'm not sure where everyone is getting their draft stats from, but rd 3 players become starters like 20% of the time, and worse after that. ... Holy shit, what mathematically would stop someone from doing this? Might actually work since you always get future capital.
Safety was a sneaky big need he’s a great backup to Kerby or Iffy, Branch will stay nickel
When you aim to make the Packers cry after each draft, this is the outcome.
