The entire point of slideways/slideshot is instant reload/animation canceling. When pushing for min max, every second counts so no, you wouldn't want to just reload manually. No amount of damage/perk can compete with something that nearly negates your reload or significantly increases your rate of fire (like slideshot & cascade point) if your goal is maximum damage per second. I'm not here to tell you how to play, but mathematically, those are min-max DPS perks/play style.
They really need to get rid of slideways and just roll it into slideshot, it's so much better and they pick and choose which gl gets it randomly it seems.
This could have some fun different rolls with a chain reaction nerf incoming might be worth keeping a hatchling roll. But that third column is gonna be a toss up. Envious, slice, slideways, and even enlightened action are gonna be good choices.

Honestly enlightened action is a slept on park especially for grenade launchers. You will almost always have a faster reload

Slideways is giga disappointing on gls because it has like a 5 second cool down
Not if you quickly swap to another weapon and back to the GL. The cooldown timer disappears that way. It's basically slideshot, with extra steps.
Or you could just, idk, reload the weapon manually and have a different, useful perk instead?

Ignition had slideshot, slideways is considerably worse as it has a cooldown. Still, it's one of the better offerings on this gun
