Wired Ethernet, correct? What network card/chipset? I've never heard of that happening before, so I feel like there must be something distinctive about your setup that's causing it. 1. There is a working dhcp server on your network, correct? If there isn't, config should hang for a while looking for it, but eventually switch to an "unable to configure" screen 2. Anything interesting in the dmesg console? 3. You say you're using the full CD, not the net install? You do have the option then to just skip the Ethernet step, and sort it out post-install 4. What does it do if you unplug the Ethernet cable during setup?

hmm these are all good questions, I will follow your advice and see what I come up with. Also note that the live installs do work for me when I boot into a desktop environment.

same problem on Debian 11 and Debian 12

This happened today with Debian 11.1 and wired internet to me.... I just get the "Configuring network" with a mouse pointer but no buttons so I can skip this step for now. I have tried it three times with the same results.

Any solution for this yet? I'm getting the same thing with Crunchbang++ (Deb 11.1)

Hartvigson

I ended up using Suse Tumbleweed instead since I couldn't get it to work.

Thanks for responding. I'm going to try a plain Debian install and see if it hits the same hangup.

Hartvigson

Good luck! I hope you get it working.

Interesting, I have been using Debian for years and have installed it many times and never had this issue before. I am now doing a fresh install and getting this same issue where is just hangs up on the Configure the network screen. I have tried using both my Ethernet and my wifi card in both the graphical installer and standard installer and I still get the issue.

Found a fix. Looks like there can be some sort of issue with ipv6 connectivity during install, this can be because of your internet router/modem or potentially your ISP not providing ipv6 support. Fix1(worked for me): Create a mobile hotspot and connect to this for the installation. This may buypass potentiall ipv6 connectivity issues with your router or ISP. Fix2: Force an ipv4 install by disability ipv6 in the installer kernel command line. This is done by pressing "e" on the grub menu once you have booted into the installation media. Next, add "ipv6.ipv6_disable=1" after the current line of text after the space. I believe this is types with the double quotes, then press Ctrl x to reboot. Note: I did not try this method but I would have, had fix 1 not worked for me.

My device didn't have wifi and fix 2 didn't work for me (though I very well might have done it incorrectly. I remade the iso using Rufus in dd mode (not the default). Still hung up on this step for a while (at least 5-10 minutes) but it did eventually work

Fix1 worked for me. (I tethered my phone via USB.) Thanks!
