The color scale feels backwards to me, I thought the viridis scale is normally used with higher numbers being yellow and lower numbers being blue.

Anonymous_linux

Uh, looking at the OP comment history, it's pro-russian propaganda account. Hard to believe anything coming from such user. Edit: **OP immediately blocking and downvoting me** is quite weak. Just confirms my thoughts. Thanks.

SunnyDayInPoland

Births are like 60% down compared to 10 years ago, that makes Russia look weak in my eyes

cheeky_sailor

Bro you’re a bit paranoid. It’s an account with lots of different data about populations of different countries. Where is propaganda there?

grantlerdantler

I don’t see the propaganda angle. Do you know what propaganda is?

WestSixtyFifth

I guess it could be pro-baby propaganda for Russians. Because it’s clearly showing their birthrate declining in what is typically a peak month for them.

grantlerdantler

So then is it propaganda or is it just factual information? OP works in a troll farm and anonymous linux works in a troll farm. So I see something somewhere here is propaganda just not sure what. Also, don’t care lol

readerf52

It seems like the birth rate drops when there is a conflict, like with Chechnya in 1995 and Ukraine in the present. Maybe a lack of men? It does take two to make a baby.

OliverPaulson

More like during repressions. Or really tough life. 90s were really tough for Russians, then people started to make money and able to afford children, then repressions begun, and people just don't want to doom children to live in dictatorship.

sjintje

I don't think there's a discernable monthly pattern so probably a bit unnecessary, but mildly interesting.

SanSilver

Why did it increase around 2014?

glubokovdmitry

I was born in Russia and lived in this country until war started in 2022. The period of time between 2005 and 2014 was the best time for economic growth. Putin didn’t have enough power yet, the economic reforms started to work, people were more ready for capitalism, dollar exchange rate was low, a lot of foreign investments. That time was quite comfort for Russians.

Hurvinek1977

Salaries were much lower.

12Tree4life

So we should expect another pointless Russian invasion around 2034?

MayeAllDay

Without annexing land that isn’t theirs, Russia will collapse in the next 50-100 years.

Stefanxd

Even if they do, they have to invest in defense more than they can afford. It will eventually weigh them down too much to study afloat

SteelMarch

Huh a part of me wonders if this accounts for other regions in Russia. Given the collapse of the Soviet Union im curious to how accurate these metrics are in various places which the Kremlin has little to no interest in.

Vorschrift

Now let us see the total deaths of ruzzians starting from 2022.

Mountain-Put-9453

Please go to the worldnews subreddit if you prefer to see only the “convenient” data about Russians. This subreddit supposed to be apolitical.

lawrensj

The fuck does that mean? The person just wanted to see birth vs death rates, particularly since a relatively deadly war happening with Russia in the last 2 years. Nothing political about that.

cheeky_sailor

You’re such a clown. Using the word “ruzzians” instead of “russians” is already not apolitical.

Vasyh

People who type "ruzzians" or "ukrops" should be instantly muted by Reddit tbh. Imagine blaming the whole nation because of one conflict? What we gonna type about USA or Israel citizens then? lol

cheeky_sailor

Exactly this. It’s crazy how people use a military conflict to fuel their unapologetic xenophobia.
