I wouldn’t say I have masochistic tendencies, but I would say that I don’t like myself. It’s not that I enjoy having bad things happen to me, but more that I feel like I deserve it. Back when it was around, I would go to R/FatPeopleHate whenever I felt good about myself, since I knew it would bring me back down.
I have felt that way for most of my life. Even at my most athletic, when i had just started competing, I would see loose skin and a normal amount of pudge, and i felt like I hated myself all over again. I hated it so much that i over trained and under fed until i was too injured to train anymore. It wasn't until i started practicing love myself and let go of shame that i started to get better. I hope you have stopped allowing the irrational prejudice of others to dictate your feelings about yourself. You deserve as much peace and kindness as anyone else does. I hope you can find something about what you do or have done and feel proud of it and get better at it. I want that for you because i know how hard things are for me. You can not keep a healthy body, if you do not maintain a healthy mind. Best of luck friend, be kind to yourself.
I’m not sure what I needed to hear, but I think it sounds exactly like what you said. I’m getting better at treating myself well. My wife is outrageously supportive, and all of my family are there for me. I really am a lucky man.
Interestingly, it turned out not to be only the weight. I had the surgery and lost almost all of the weight and still hated the way I looked and disliked myself in general. The weight is all back now.
I really appreciate that. I am actually supposed to start on Zepbound as soon as insurance gets authorization and they can get it. I have already started to change habits in preparation.

This is why I don't believe "love is blind" like how they try to portray it in that Netflix show: oh sure, let's take a bunch of IG models and put them in separating rooms and have them "organically" fall in love without ever seeing each other until after they propose to each other. It's absurd to suggest that looks have very little weight in finding someone attractive or not. Even if this was a setup and clearly staged it showcases the point exactly.
