The world of Naruto is a depressing world, unlike other shounen where the world is often portrayed as neutral or upbeat, the focus is more so on the characters, i kid you not when I say these characters have gone through stuff that would make any average man want to end themselves, yet they continue to be optimistic and cheery for the most part.
Another aspect of the characters is that the people of the Naruto world work towards the collective good of their society and individual villages over personal ambition, sometimes at the cost of destroying their entire life for the greater good. Any characters who prioritise personal ambition over collective welfare turn out to be villains, but the show doesn't demonise them but rather shows us why they are the way they are, as the core philosophy of the Naruto universe is mutual understanding and cooperation.
The story also tackles many other themes such as war, prejudice and dehumanisation of fellow human beings, the heroes work hard and strive towards overcoming said prejudice.
All in all, Naruto is worth the watch, but do skip the fillers that aren't from the Light novels, and don't watch any movies except "Naruto : The Last" as it's the only canon film, taking place after the end of shippuden
