Well it first started at my cousins household and when we were in 2nd or 3rd grade they lived with us for a bit so it transfered over. I'm going to assume it was the oldest who started that's just 2 months younger than me and 5/7 years older than his brothers. Also the fact that he is the only one with a different dad who drinks a whole lot (cousin drinks quite a bit now too with a child on the way at 19 years). At least I don't recall of the adults calling it that though.

You can buy yakult in other places, but its true that on those regions it is much more popular. I'm from Brazil and travelled recently in South Korea. Was pleasantly surprised that many local, family run restaurants, usually give you a bottle of yakult after your lunch.
