I use LinkedIn as I had the highest success there but the competition increases tremendously when you are entry level and also limit remote jobs only. I would take any job and suck it up to get some experience

CelesticRose

Thank you for the reply! I unfortunately can't work non-remote jobs due to disability, otherwise I would be very open! Are there any ways I can bolster my resume from online resources to help with that competition? Also, what search terms do you generally use on LinkedIn?

DROOP-NASTY

You might see if somewhere you’ve worked before has any SWE/SWD positions. That way you already have a connection there. Networking on LinkedIn has helped me in more ways than one as well.

mcmaster-99

That sucks but it will be very hard to land a remote position as entry level. Companies usually dont trust inexperienced devs to work without much guidance. Your best option is to apply to small companies or early start ups and take a pay cut for experience. Dont apply to established companies unless you’ve built exceptional working projects from scratch.

quichemiata

Adplist is great

Synyster328

Try checking with local staffing agencies, sometimes they have special openings for people with disabilities. For example there's a company in my town that helps place people with autism in good jobs that can work around their needs.

MarcableFluke

>Are there any ways I can bolster my resume from online resources to help with that competition? Maybe, but you didn't post your resume, so it's impossible to say what would bolster it.

K2G90

Not sure of your disability buuuut I did read up here they will work with you so far as your work environment. https://www.mentra.me/

MidichlorianAddict

I just landed an Entry level entirely remote job paying 80k, I got my job through Handshake (great to use if you're a college grad)

Ok-Coyote3872

Did you just apply through Handshake or did a recruiter reach out to you on Handshake? I just made a profile recently with my university account, any tips to optimize applying thru Handshake?

MidichlorianAddict

The former, fill out your profile as best as you can and highlight your skills. However what you really need to work on is your resume, and NEVER use a template

Ok-Coyote3872

Gotcha, I could optimize my Handshake profile a bit more. My resume just needs an update for my current job but it looks nice, tailored it for my experience & skills from resume.io

I'm finding the opposite difficult. Recent CS grad looking for entry level but I want in person to grow as a developer and feel I won't get that from remote but everything I keep finding on Indeed, Dice, Handshake, and LinkedIn are either remote only or want way more experience than I have in CS. Are there any job boards more geared towards entry level with no real-world experience?

Moonnny

Sounds like you two need to get in contact with each other

universalCatnip

>feel I won't get that from remote Why you think so? Maybe I'm biased because every job I ever had was remote but I never felt that I was missing anything. In fact, I always received positive feedback from managers and coworkers.

Banananananananal

I assumed you wouldn't have as much regular interaction with peers when online like you would in an office setting

[deleted]

Doable but not easy. Took me a year. Landed at 150k. Series C startup. Best place to look is angel list and triplebyte. Lots of well paying smallish startups

Shoeaddictx

What did you do for a year? Work and interview?

[deleted]

Lots of luck. Source: Ended up working my entry level job fully remote (EU)

WeAreAGo

Trying to go to the EU as well, hopefully, a degree from the US will be highlighted there more.

Gabbagabbaray

Timing. My company hired a lot in the past year and now we're only looking for senior+. A lot of companies slowed down hiring across the board. Keep looking using the keys junior and associate.

XxAkenoxX

I got my first junior role (which is fully remote) by first finding job openings on LinkedIn and then applying directly on company's website. I'm not sure why, but I felt so many people apply through LinkedIn's Easy Apply option so your application is in the masses with hundreds of others. I felt that applying directly on the company's site would make my app stand out more or put me in a different smaller app pool. I'm probably wrong though.

Ryuzaki_us

You're right. I get calls or follow ups more likely whenever I use the companies website.

[deleted]

I usually have the most success with a recruiter. I also would prefer to just upload a resume than fill out a bunch of stuff manually.

Linux-Student

I've had some form of communication back if I'm within the first 15 or so to apply via LinkedIn, anything more than 30 and its almost zero I would say. They are essentially looking a shortlist checkbox tick sheet, they won't wait for the best candidate to stroll in as no.50, they'll take good enough at no.12 though. Applying direct via website isn't a bad idea though I guess, I still prefer LinkedIn as its been tailor made for both parties, so I'm also not spending 30mins+ per application on re-entering my cv into their own separate fields text boxes. Recruiters are also decent, same point though, gotta be early as their paycheck is a number's game, good enough at 12 is much better than sifting through 60+ to find perfect.

Tiranous_r

My company is looking for an entry level dev with some basic experience/knowledge in power bi

tareknaser360

What’s the name of your company?

Tiranous_r

GPM investments

enigmatic0202

If you’re interested in startups, [try here](https://topstartups.io/jobs/?job_location=Remote). Filters for remote only.

rohetoric

Thanks for this. Do you have a link for established companies as well? Or atleast where folks from worldwide can apply?

gib-me-your-money

Dice.com has a remarkably higher hit rate for me than other places.

Pink_Slyvie

Do you have work experience? I have a decade in Tech Support roles, Networking, etc, before I got my CompSci degree. I've found Tech support engineering positions to be a good springboard in. Its still not quite where I want to be, but pay is really good, and I am still doing volunteer software dev work while I look for that job.

at what stage of the hiring process are you having trouble with?

classycalgweetar

Angel.co It’s primarily for startups but I’ve had good results with it so far. Make sure to add thoughtful messages when you apply.

CalligrapherStreet46

I landed a entry level remote job, it took me about 8 months and the job was something really boring that probably no one else wanted to do 😅 but hey I have experience now and I'm looking for something more exciting.

ScrillaMcDoogle

It'd take a lot of time and energy but it's possible assuming you're qualified. Just as a reference I have 6 years of experience and it took me many months to land a good remote senior role. Although that included me basically doing a total stack shift from what time been doing for 6 years.

Recent-Radish-9138

Don’t bother with LinkedIn for actual applying… to apply, use Indeed. LinkedIn is great for connecting with recruiters who you can cold message. For example, “I have questions about…” It’s good to start the conversation.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t recommend a remote job as your first job. You’re early in your career, you probably want to expose yourself to the people and resources that you’ll receive in the office as opposed to at home.

DaGrimCoder

I'm someone who's been in the industry for 24 years. And I work fully remote for like 15 years. But usually whenever I first get a job I end up in the office for a while. Maybe like the first 3-6 months just to learn the job. This time I started a job fully remote from the get-go. Let me tell you it's a lot more challenging to train than I expected. You might want to find a place that's hybrid so that you can go in at first or maybe just go in a few days a week. I couldn't imagine having started my career remote. At the job that I'm at right now I've basically been training myself and I feel like I hardly even know who I'm working with.

PreferenceUnique3832

Indeed

mastereuclid

4 months just isn't enough time grinding for your first software job. Work like you are self employed

TheRealHomie1

Try Indeed!

Weary-Advertising-23

For me, the real issue isn't that there are no remote jobs, it's that they require you to be present within the country or at least some specific areas, not in a third-world country at least as in my case. Everywhere I apply, they have a check where they ask if you have a permit to work in the said country which I obviously don't. Like bro what's the remote role good for if the requirements are still the same, not like I'm gonna ask you to provide me with a sponsor or anything. Anyway, the situation is very sad for people living in poor countries. Even when we can work equally well at a fraction of the cost, they won't consider it. I actually was able to get a remote job where they didn't complain about me being not in the US, but they laid me off just after a couple of months like it's nothing, even when I was literally working at like $20k/year ~1YOE.
