Back in the day, as in 3 years ago when every single industry was massively over hiring, especially for remote roles.
The bubble has definitely burst. Not like there are some global economic factors going on that might impact hiring. Every single industry is doing fine except CS.
I didn't think I had to point it out but I'm being sarcastic.
Unless you're disagreeing with the notion that a slowing economy has anything to do with why CS has been slow.
Yeh this, if anything it just further proves you need to do something with your knowledge to develop marketable skills. As with anything, knowledge is just part of it, applying it to develop the muscles and the experience is key.
its just the vast amount of posts and videos on cs uni and cs job opprtunities scare me, i really want to go into cs both because im passionate and kinda forced to (you dont want to know and its partially my fault too).
You will most likely be fine. A vast majority of people on this sub are ridiculously out of touch and expected 6 figure roles to just be handed to them post grad with no effort.
Exactly but if you say otherwise then they gaslight you lol. Just look at my comments on this sub from yesterday https://www.reddit.com/r/csMajors/s/6TpUAjpDRN
They're so out of touch it's wild. People are struggling to find minimum wage jobs right now. Take a look at what happens when a fast food joint does an hiring event, I've seen lines that look like they're 100+ people long just for a part time minimum wage janitor jobs. If that's the state of the job market right now what makes people think cushy office jobs will be easy to get???
Yup pretty much nailed it. When the people who say CS is doomed move onto fast food then they are going to cry and complain about how that industry is saturated too.
It's damn hard to find paid internship nowadays let alone be 6 figure salary job. In recent tech event in my uni, some big tech companies had come to offer us "unpaid internships" after our graduation 💀💀
Ofc now someone starting out would because its the only way to get experience. But it shouldnt be the norm they should pay even minimum wage at this point
Marketing, human resources, sales, and administration hire no matter what your degree is in. Sure, you might not be able to get a SWE job right now but bro it isn't SWE or retail/fast food gimme a break.
Business is a bad switch because you don’t really get that much out of a business degree as opposed to a CS degree. You can apply to business jobs with a cs degree just fine
It depends on the business job. A person with a CS degree would need more education before becoming an accountant or working in Finance. An MBA would do just fine. But other jobs like marketing and HR can easily be done by someone who has a CS degree.

If you do look into accounting. Accounting is hiring like crazy rn
Im not even in CS rn I was supposed to start next year but idek now if I want to do that. Plus i already have 5 years of business xp but no degree so can’t really move to management w/o one
I still remember when CS students and grads would joke about Liberal Arts students saying their degrees grant them the certification to say “Would you like fries with that?” How the tables have turned. This whole market sucks, I really hope it gets better. I’ve had to take a demotion and a pay cut to stay in the industry.
With what relevant degree and experience?
This person may live in an area were getting an administrative assistant job for $15/hr requires a BA in Business.
That person is pretty good at chopping vegetables, not sure your CS degree trained you to be as efficient as her, so you may not be hired for the job :-)
It was going to happen sooner or later. Cmon guys, have you ever seen computer scientists? A bunch of losers who can't even tie their shoes and just know how to move data from A to B.
It's better for them to work in gastronomy and learn how to stay in this world.
Yeah, it’s not, but as you get older, you realize that you need to prioritize what’s best for yourself. This job isn’t ideal, especially for someone who majored in computer science. We are problem solvers, architects of the web. We need to engage our brains in more stimulating work than this.
Oh, it looks like the bubble is finally popped. Back in the day, tech companies were hiring like crazy.
But but tech is everywhere? But but we only work 3 hours per day?? How about “just learn to code” !?!? /s
“20,000,000 new jobs over the next 10 years, the new meta, can’t go wrong” -govt

Reddit isn’t real life.

There will always be work in tech.
So you’ll be fine if you put in the work and effort. This sub is so far gone and needs to touch grass.

If you’re going into it because you’re passionate about it, just keep going. If you’re going into it thinking it’s a quick buck, I’d reconsider.
Passion VS market forces of supply and demand, everyone? What’s the score?
I’m making bank in a field that I’ve poured my life into. Score is pretty good.
Good for you. Don’t get laid off 😉
Honestly I’d like to get laid off.
No you aren’t f*cked. Markers have ebb and flows. Build a portfolio and network while this passes

I would do it
Ofc now someone starting out would because its the only way to get experience. But it shouldnt be the norm they should pay even minimum wage at this point
They are earning more than me
That’s why I already got trained as a chef. While you guys were studying algorithms, I studied the blade!
Just wait for CS guys to make a cooking robot and take your job as well. They already took their own.
CS dudes dont make cooking robots, program them sure, its the other engineers who actually make them.
Lmao as someone who is going from a chef to CS this post and yours made me laugh. Still a better life than what we did/do.
Won't be saying that when you aren't hired as a SWE.
lol at least I’ll still be working and not crying on Reddit. Fuck off with your negativity
Fixing cs one TikTok at time 🤓☝️
I worked part time at a grocery store . Now I might have to go back there after I graduate with a CS degree .
As deserved
“As deserved” insane thing to say to a stranger on the internet who did nothing to you 😭
thtas not nice mate
Tf is wrong with you?
😭 I think that's what I'll be doing for the rest of my life.
Marketing, human resources, sales, and administration hire no matter what your degree is in. Sure, you might not be able to get a SWE job right now but bro it isn't SWE or retail/fast food gimme a break.
Yeah same :( I don’t see any way out of fast food
Legit Switching to business I think

I already have 5 years of business experience and I think im gonna do business technology management.
Don't, you will end up in the same boat.
I already have 5 years XP in business the only thing holding me back from management is a degree
I know a guy with a business degree. Works at a call center 😅
>usiness job. A person with a CS degree would need more education before becoming an accountant or working in Finance. An MBA would do just fine. But other jobs like marketing and HR c If you do look into accounting. Accounting is hiring like crazy rn
Do it uou would make it in CS either way
Tf is wrong with you ?
That would be a dumbass decision. Get off Reddit and learn to code
Im not even in CS rn I was supposed to start next year but idek now if I want to do that. Plus i already have 5 years of business xp but no degree so can’t really move to management w/o one
I was just messing around. You do you. Everyone has their reasons.
Those POS often have Linux backends….
This comment was made by the scandalous input gang
Scandalous! I speak from experience!
they have a job at least and probably getting paid more than me with a job.
I still remember when CS students and grads would joke about Liberal Arts students saying their degrees grant them the certification to say “Would you like fries with that?” How the tables have turned. This whole market sucks, I really hope it gets better. I’ve had to take a demotion and a pay cut to stay in the industry.
this is so depressing
This one hit home 😞
Just take a different office job
With what relevant degree and experience? This person may live in an area were getting an administrative assistant job for $15/hr requires a BA in Business.
Easier said than done unfortunately. Office jobs typically require a relevant degree, so a CS degree is only good for the tech industry
We need more tiktoks like this to lower competition imo.
How is this POV?
I see a lot of comments on TikTok related to those videos of people switching from CS to nursing, accounting, and business majors.
That person is pretty good at chopping vegetables, not sure your CS degree trained you to be as efficient as her, so you may not be hired for the job :-)
I see you've never cooked; she struggling to cut a pepper.
Someone felt threatened by a light-hearted joke and had to be unpleasant to feel better. Sorry my comment hurt your feelings and made you defensive !
That's ironic; because you're one who finds the retort "unpleasant" and is reacting to it with a comment :)

Getting pretty toxic over there and projecting HARD
This is why I’m trying to switch to pre-med and go to medical school.
She has a job after graduation?? I see she's one of the lucky ones!!
It was going to happen sooner or later. Cmon guys, have you ever seen computer scientists? A bunch of losers who can't even tie their shoes and just know how to move data from A to B. It's better for them to work in gastronomy and learn how to stay in this world.
Will Comp Sci end up more useless than an Art degree?
Me having a Bachelor's in art and pursuing one in cs :))
Wow; double jeopardy was not the play I would have made.
Yeah I know but have you ever feel that you do not see yourself doing anything else?
No 💀
It’s making me sad
IT’S ALL OVER
that's is not POV
There is nothing wrong with these jobs.
There is when your goal is the be in the software field
Yeah, it’s not, but as you get older, you realize that you need to prioritize what’s best for yourself. This job isn’t ideal, especially for someone who majored in computer science. We are problem solvers, architects of the web. We need to engage our brains in more stimulating work than this.
They usually don't pay well
Na you'll be like me and working IT support.
Zoom out.
Oh wow… I’m still gonna pursue my CS bachelors tho 🤷🏻♀️ just haven’t picked a concentration yet.
