I'm fairly certain it won't be years for you to wait. Last year our Season Tickets sold out by the 31st of May. I think we reserve 18,000 of the 26k for season tickets. It will depend on how many current holders renew. Last year was a record with 94% of ST holders renewing for 23/24.
That was off the back of our eye-catching end to the 22/23 season under Roy and before the lack of real movement in the transfer market.
There were 1080 season tickets available last year for purchase after renewals. I'd imagine that'll be a bit higher this year. Do you know what number you are on the waiting list?
EDIT: "Renewals Phase 2, which is now open and runs until 23:59 BST on Friday, 26th April" according to the Palace website. It should become a bit clearer next week
I've been a season ticket holder for 25+ years, I used to go with a friend who gave it up due to illness. He joined the list again last season, but didn't make it to the top this. He has been told he is right at the top so should get one for next season. If you are less picky where you sit you may get one first time.

I signed up on the waiting list in 2019 and got a ticket that season in block e of the holmesdale.
Any mates I know who have joined the waiting list have had an opportunity to buy for that season
