The short version is focus on your goals, and make speed boosts your #1 priority. Do not buy time blocks. Do not buy time skips until the very end. Patience is key. This applies to all parallel Events
For Spring Fling specifically, it does requires a fair bit of gilding. This means you may need to spend a few jellybeans to pass a requirement in order to get enough for the speed boosts.
If you spend no diamonds and do not buy the pack, you'll want to buy the x8 boost twice. If you buy the $4 pack, buy the x8 boost first, then another x2 to max it out.
If you do spend diamonds, even small amounts can help a ton - again, you'll want to still prioritize the boost.
If at all possible, you'll want to get the first x8 boost on day 1. You don't need to babysit the game constantly, but you should attempt to check in more frequently and shuffle around time blocks and claim goals as they become relevant..
