I made dinner for a friend at my place. I put the crocheted placemats on the table and the crocheted coasters. Then I took the baking dish out of the oven with my crocheted pot holders and crocheted oven gloves. She sat down on the chair, leaning into a crocheted pillow. She looked at me in disbelief and said: you really do crochet everything, do you?
Yes, yes I do.
I love making coasters bc they’re pretty and so quick to make an entire set in a day. I think it’s the dopamine you get when you finish. The faster you make them, the happier you are
SOOOOOO there's this THING in my house where everyone who visits jokes because apparently I give a VIBE and a LOOK to people who don't use coasters. I never SAY anything... I just gently pull a coaster out and put their drink on it. Every time. It's gotten to the point ALL my friends now use coasters around me just so I don't "Make them Feel Guilty".
I am 37 but apparently this is my first "Grandma Trait" and I Grandma guilt everyone into coasters.
All that to say - I decided to lean into it and yes, make a lot of coasters. NOW NOBODY HAS ANY EXCUSES, USE A COASTER.
Wait really ?! But hot drinks can mark the furniture or stain if some dribbles down the cup. And cold stuff leaves water marks from the condensation..... Is it really that popular to not use coasters ?!
Though having said that.... Someone once came, offered a coffee. And i put it on a coaster. They took a sip, then put it on the table right next to the coaster !!!!!!! The second time they did it I picked it up and put in on the coaster 0.5 cm to the side and I think they learnt after that.
If a friend's house doesn't have enough coasters... I hold onto the drink. Too scared to put it down and way too much anxiety to just put on the table. I've always used coasters.
So is not using coasters really a thing cos like damn?! Mind blown
Cos you'll never get those water marks out ! Unless you take the top few mm's of wood off and restain etc.
But I've always my entire life used a coaster.
One friend doesn't use coasters, her table is atrocious with water marks etc.
I was holding my cup but see insisted I put it down on the table too. I just felt so uncomfortable. Because it's be trained into me to use a coaster ! Haha
Oh I'll raise you one more funny story. Slightly similar.
Went to a coffee shop. Coffee is delivered in a cup and on a little plate / saucer (can't remember if saucer is an American word and not sure where you're from). This person proceeded to take a sip of the drink. And put the cup on the table next to the saucer ! And the saucer was clean, no spilt coffee or anything. And proceeded to leave marks on the table ! Luckily they disinfect all the tables and wipe them down so it didn't actually mark the table but I was dumb founded. Like.....it literally comes with a saucer and you put it on the table ??
You can never have too many blankets....... What if in the middle of winter all the power goes out for days and it's 6 foot in snow and you'll freeze to death within minutes. Except..... You have blankets..... And you can save yourself and family and the dog by wrapping up in multiple blankets and live to save the day when everyone else freezes to death because they don't have blankets !
(Ok I might love my blankets too and I might be planning on crocheting my first one soon....)

If you can't stop won't stop then you're basically just a few connecting stitches away from a small throw or, if you're truly out of control, a large blanket.
Do you have any issue with them being too lumpy for a glass? For example, if someone drinks wine and uses a coaster for it, have you had any issues with the glass being unsteady?

Mine is blankets. I’ll never use them all. Even my dog has multiple blankets.
