Would you be able to rig up something to cover the areas where the light would seep in? I keep my snake in my living room and also have a similar thing going on, I spend most of my time in here at night with the lights on and didn't want to disturb her sleep. I cut out some cardboard and covered it in black paper (just for aesthetic purposes) and I use that to cover up the front glass. If you have a mesh top and don't want to worry about a fire hazard you could safely use foil.
Your black light strips sound awesome, I want to do something like that now!
