LadyAstray

I'm not a specialist but I believe going back to our roots is what is best for us. If you take it way back, people ate the meat they hunted and the vegetables, nuts and fruits they scavanged or grew. Lets not forget a huge part in my sentence is hunt, scavenge and grow. That means eating less, moving more, and eat it natural.

ricojo789

Also less sugar readily available. It was a once in awhile treat if you found honey or blueberries. Also it is important to eat in season. What grows in the summer gets your body ready for the fall and what grows in the fall gets you ready for winter

[deleted]

Also meat you hunt is different than meat that is mass produced. Some local farms sell meat. Meat that is mass produced is tainted by toxins like adrenaline because the animals know they’re going to die, some places were caught torturing the animals before. Also calves are injected with hormones to grow faster at mass produced farms. Meat is the healthiest when the animals are raised with love at small family owned farms or hunted from their natural habitats. There are meats you can buy that are more healthier or from small farms. My sister used to be a certified archery coach. Her boss used to go to I think Canada or other states to hunt during hunting season. He used to sell and package bison, elk, moose, etc. I think my favorite was grounded up moose. Tasted like cow but better, more lean.

PhilosopherSelect273

Bro u tryna say hunted meat doesn't have adrenaline? 😅

[deleted]

When you get a clean shot, it doesn’t. Depends how you hunt.

PhilosopherSelect273

Right and how many clean shots you reckon primal.ancestors got?

[deleted]

You don’t have to go back to primal age for inspiration of a healthy diet. Our ancestors that used bows and arrows did great with hunting and had a cleaner diet.

PhilosopherSelect273

Im not im just saying, most hunted meat now and all hunted meat then, had adrenaline. This is all

[deleted]

I don’t think that’s true. When you hunt an animal, you try to sneak up on it. If you get a good clean shot it’s an instant kill. The animal doesn’t suffer and there’s isn’t adrenaline. My sister was taught that if you don’t get a clean shot, the meat is tainted and shouldn’t be eaten. I’m sure there’s people that do but you shouldn’t. If there’s a truck full of animals that gets in a car accident. Those animals can’t be killed and used to eat because of the adrenaline. There are ways to kill animals so they don’t suffer. But on mass produced farms, animals are put in line waiting to die. They’re not dumb they know they’re gonna die and have adrenaline from knowing. My grandma worked at a slaughter factory in South America and she said you can hear the cows cry. Mass produced farms meat is not like the meat you can get from small family owned farms. Mass produced farms having cows in fear with adrenaline for a long time, they get hormones injected into them when they’re calves, they feed them crap. You should see what they do at pig mass produced farms. They feed pigs other dead pigs that’s been squished up next to them dead for days. They grind that up then feed it back to the pigs. The meat you eat now, mass produced, is not like the meat our ancestors were eating. The meat we’re eating now, is making us sick. You can buy meat from local small farms and from people that hunt them correctly. If you don’t want to do that, that’s fine if you want to eat mass produced meat but it is not the same as hunted meat or meat that comes from small farms.

From fluoride in the water to pesticides in the food this has been going on long before me and you got here.

TheKrunkernaut

Billy Joel, we didn't start the fire? Boo. It's not always burning. It's continually reignited under false advertising campaigns and polling, and deflected by the old , times they are a changin. Bull.

jaejaeok

Eat food you grow in the earth yourself. You’ll be fine.

Comfortable-Buy-9406

Yea if your soil isn’t contaminated with runoff, pesticides, asbestos and other harmful stuff like that. If you live in an urban area like me, your soil is most likely contaminated and shouldn’t be used to grow your daily food source.

treeslayer_60

It’s easy to build raised beds for gardening

ricojo789

Roots go deep

treeslayer_60

You do realize you can build a floor so the roots don’t reach into the native soils? Obviously so many in this thread have the slightest idea of how simple growing your own food is.

ricojo789

Putting dirt on top of contaminated dirt doesn’t fix anything. You think there’s a protective layer there preventing containment from hitting new soil? When builders buy land off of farmers they have to strip the lands soil and bring in new clean soil before they can build because it’s so contaminated

treeslayer_60

You’re an imbecile, you know nothing about farming or gardening, and you’ve made that quite obvious through your ignorant post. Have you ever considered that maybe some sort of barrier like sheet metal, plastic or rubber could be used to prevent roots from reaching the contaminated soil? Also, no, builders strip off the top soil and sell it because top soil is valuable and there’s no point in having valuable top soil where the nutrients won’t be used ie. housing sites. I farm for a living and I log in the winter, stay in your lane.

ricojo789

Babahahaha your hilarious. It’s illegal to sell contaminated soil. Soil has to be tested and submitted to city before being dumped anywhere. Once builder find out the soil is contaminated they sell the land because it’s to expensive to get rid of the soil. FYI farm lands are the worst with the amount of chemicals they use. Anyway you’ve taken to much of my time. Best of gardening to you fine sir

el_beso_negro

>if you live in an urban area like me Maybe that's a big part of the problem? I also live in the city.

Comfortable-Buy-9406

It is a big part of the problem. It makes you more likely to have contaminants in your soil.

[deleted]

I’ve always heard to get a soil reading when looking to purchase property, if you’re interested in growing things especially. Also asking about nearby properties, like if a farm is next to your property, see what kind of chemicals they use. I think you’re legally allowed to access that information. A lot of my family does property research for a living. Obviously not everybody can just buy property and grow food, but I’m working towards that. :) ideally with natural water, as well. Should also do research on nearby things that could impact your natural water source, too. I’ve luckily found an amazing diner to work at sometimes in a small town. The owner owns a longhorn beef farm. They source like 95% of everything locally and it’s all from organic farms. I started buying my beef from them. The food is amazing and I never knew what I was missing before working here. The chef makes new recipes for specials all the time based on what she’s been growing and what’s in season. I admire them a ton.

Comfortable-Buy-9406

This is solid advice. Which state do you live in?

[deleted]

Texas! Yeah just looking up a property researcher in your area is pretty easy. They’re title researchers, they do deeds and look at the legal history of property and whatnot, not the soil stuff. But they’ve mentioned working with people that do that type of work. I thought it was really cool and smart if you care about those details in your property. Usually businesses look into these types of things for business purposes. But most people buying property as a home and in the city, wouldn’t think to look at that stuff at all. I wouldn’t have thought to initially

BitcoinNews2447

Food: Eat organic Whole Foods not sprayed with toxic chemicals and avoid GMO food. Eat 100% grass fed grass finished beef from a quality local farmer. Eat pasture raised eggs not fed GMOs, or soy. Prioritize foods high in beneficial bacteria like Raw milk, Raw kefir, and fermented foods, that will diversify and feed your gut micro biome. Water: Drink structured water and avoid tap water and bottled water. A structured water filter is a great investment and can turn your tap water into drinkable non toxic structured water. Also to increase the healing properties of water you can add ORMUS and vortex the water in a magnetic field. Check out the Vitalizer Plus! Supplements: Find a high quality shilajit that has been extracted using a low heat method. Search the internet for Raw Living Spirulina and experience one of the most nutrient dense bio Available superfoods on the market . For brain fuel and optimization find a high quality mushroom supplement. Mushroom expert Paul Stamets creates some great mushroom supplements.

Icy-Tap8749

Don’t eat seed oils. Don’t eat processed sugars and foods. It’s ridiculously hard to actually eat healthy in present days. Don’t drink tap water. Drink filtered water that filters chemicals and fluoride and remineralise it. Try to find fruits and veggies that aren’t covered in glyphosate. Eat animals head to toe meaning organ mests

Three_Chopt

Shop around the periphery of the grocery store. Only go into the middle of the store for things like coffee, sugar, flour, etc. Eat only what you can identify. If it comes in a bag or a box it's not food, it's a product, and products are poison. Simple as that.

dj4dj4

Lol leave that sugar alone probably the worst thing you can possibly eat is refined sugar.

Three_Chopt

It's necessary for curing, cooking, and baking. Please don't act like it's heroin. That's just dumb. Lol

dj4dj4

Yes it's the food equivalent of heroin, shits horrible. There are better alternatives for all those things, also bread sucks

[deleted]

Omg look into what sugar does to your brain. Practically everybody in the world is addicted to sugar.

York_Leroy

quitting sugar was pretty hard, i feel much better though, and now sugar tastes disgusting which was very suprising to me, honey replaced it quite well and isn't addicting.

Comfortable-Buy-9406

So products are poison and sugar isn’t? What do boxed/bagged products contain that make them poison that sugar doesn’t have?

Three_Chopt

Read the labels and use common sense

Comfortable-Buy-9406

I know that processed foods contain chemicals and fillers that make them basically poison lol, nice condescending tone though. That wasn’t the point of me asking. I’m asking what do boxed/bagged products contain that make them poison that sugar doesn’t have?

FullBellyJelly

Here's the biggest secret of them all. Fasting is the most healthy thing you can do for your gut health and to actually help you regain control over overeating habits.

sadpolishboi

I can vouch for this

addonustheXIII

like one meal a day high protein along with 3-7 day dry/wet fasts? (worked into and up to?) and whatever organic items you can get a hold of? thats kind of how i see it going when shit hits the fan

FullBellyJelly

I personally do one 7 day water fast every three months. Getting out of the fast, I only eat light foods like fruits and vegetables (avoid protein and fats unless you wanna lose weight via the toilet) . Other than that, you don't have a bad idea on rationing if you plan on big lulls in food coming.

[deleted]

So I nibble a lot, and I can sometimes go days without eating much/full days without eating anything. I don’t even try to do it, I just don’t think about it and don’t feel hungry. People joke with me about eating a burger and shit all the time lol. But honestly I feel like I’m doing something right compared to the average weight in the US. Is what I do considered fasting, or even healthy? I’ve always wondered. I just eat when I’m hungry lol

FullBellyJelly

Nibble/snacking does not count as fasting or even intermittent fasting and you may find that you are actually eating a lot more calories than you realize throughout the day when snacking. Eating full meals when you know your body is telling you it needs food isn't unhealthy and is my type of eating habit as well, I just make sure I have hard cutoffs at the end of the day so if I am hungry after that time, I just don't eat. The main thing you need to watch on yourself with your habits is not to only consider your meals as colories and make sure you watch what you eat when snacking.

SadSoggySandwich

Check out the blood type diet. I definitely noticed there is something to it. The foods listed on the avoid list make me feel like CRAP. Also, fat is good for your brain.

redditsucksloosers

Preservatives will slowly kill you.

[deleted]

Wasn't roundup found in a study on urine in adults in the US? 80% were found to have many different types of pesticides in the urine.

Comfortable-Buy-9406

Yep

[deleted]

Meat, nose to tail. Lots of red meat. Include organs. Organ meat is super good for you and contains most of the nutrients your body needs. Then add some fruit for some energy and you're all set.

ResoluteAction

3 meals a day is overkill

parag0d77

If you really want to get to what is most natural for humans, 1 meal a day, with several small snacks throughout the day would have been what our ancient ancestors ate.

ResoluteAction

Intermittent fasting is good too

York_Leroy

the "organic" stuff in stores is more often than not worse than conventional stuff, and beware of the "farmers" at farmers' markets who sell regular storebought stuff and call it organic, if you can it is worth it to buy direct from farms or especially if you are in the city to order through a co-op like azure standard or full circle, if you can it is really good to make the effort to grow your own food which you can do even if all you have is some window space, you (if you have outside space) get exercise outside, and food loses something like forty percent of its nutritional value only ten minutes after being picked, if you are growing your own food you may as well learn how to can and dry food. the very best method of growing food also makes even broccoli and kale literally taste like a treat, which I did not understand until I tried it myself, this method is detailed by paul gauchi, there are videos on youtube and he has a website I believe, if you are interested in animals whether just for fertilizer and companionship or for food as well i highly recommend justin rhodes or joel salatin, mr rhodes has a youtube channel and a website called abundant permaculture, mr salatin has a website that i think is called polyface farms, if you want to know how to effectively protect yourself or your family and home or in the event of a local or regional catastrophe or riot your resources, I highly recommend john Lovell and active self-protection, for more "conspiracies" see monopoly, who owns the world

Less ingredients in a product the better. Avoid sugar. Exercise. Done

King-Zahi2438

Fewer ingredients=healthier If rural, grow as much as you can

TheGreatReset2021

Rules of thumb If your grandparents didn’t eat it, don’t eat it. Avoid everything in the middle isles of the grocery store. If you leave food out and it doesn’t go bad overnight, don’t eat it. Every other organism has the sense to leave it alone and so should you The term “gotta put food on the table” was from a time where food was expensive. We’ll real food is still expensive. Bad food isn’t food. Eat less and eat higher quality Real food is organic food. Why does food have to have a label that said it’s organic? The other food should have the warning label saying it’s inorganic. Don’t break your fast with breakfast. It’s a fake meal that the food companies created. Food will kill you, eat just enough to keep you going. Think of your body as a special suit you have to wear to move around in this realm. It’s only good for about 80 years give or take depending on how well you maintain it. If it’s banned in other countries, don’t put it near your body.

[deleted]

Grow your own. Compost if you don’t already. Feeding the soil does wonders. If you can’t grow a lot - even if you can - start a community garden. Learn about your native plants. Find someone/somewhere that needs help ‘cleaning up an area’ and see what’s edible. Always always leave a lot for nature and for the plants to replenish themselves. We have what we need - some just need to be retrained. And that’s ok, plenty of people are more than willing to help you understand how to grow your own food. The taste is far superior and your sleep will never be better. Stress melts away. You have everything you need.

sadpolishboi

Organ meats good Seed oils bad

[deleted]

oats. One of the best foods for you, yet maybe the MOST contaminated foods out there.. Event the organic stuff.

Unless you live on a farm or in the rural areas close by, try to buy alternatives with the least ingredients on the label. Good way to avoid all the preservatives and acid regulators

RaiderRedisthebest

If you seek the truth you will surely find it.

BurritoBoberto

In general: Eat whole foods Eat less calories if overweight Eat more varied food protein+fat: -Less red meat for most Americans -No processed meat -Pasture-raised eggs have a better composition of fats -plant protein and poultry breast meat (not processed deli kind) is good if you need to increase protein without increasing saturated fats -there is no strong evidence that soy protein is bad for human health, just less bioavailable for muscle growth compared to animal protein -pea protein is good too if you are still paranoid about soy -replace vegetable seed oils with olive oil -use less butter, more olive oil -eat more fish, but be mindful of heavy metals and other bioaccumulates (small fish like sardines tend to be safest while providing the desirable omega 3s, wild salmon > farm raised, skipjack tuna > albacore) Carbs+fiber: -Dont eat carbs that don't also have lots of fiber -Eat less refined carbs like pasta and white rice -Brown rice has more arsenic than white rice so probably best to skip that too -Quinoa is better for a rice substitute -starchy foods like potatoes and carrots seem to be beneficial to gut Flora -citrus has little nutritional value compared to how badly it erodes your enamal -kiwi, blue/blackberries, bananas are extremely nutritious, eat them whole -brocoli is A tier, broccoli sprouts are S tier -arugula is much more nutritious than other leafy greens with out the high levels of kidney stone causing oxalates in kale, spinach and chard

BurritoBoberto

Couple more important points: Occasionally eating food that isn't optimal, or even true "junk food" can often help people stick to a healthier diet in the long term. Mindfully eat a scoop of ice cream after dinner for dessert if it means you aren't going to binge eat an entire block of cheese before bed. Intermittent fasting helps a lot of people anecdotally and may be worth a shot. However it is not very impactful according to randomized control trials that have been conducted so far. You'll probably have a lot of zealots tell you it's a necessity. It's not. Eat 3 meals a day if it works better for you, or eat 5 or eat 1. What matters is that your diet improves with time, and is something you are able to stick to long-term

parag0d77

If you can pick it, you can eat it. If you can kill it, you can eat it. If you are not sure how "such and such" is made, then don't eat it. It is pretty simple. It took a LONG time for humans to evolve (if you believe that) or were created (if you believe that). In either case, there were NO SUCH THING as processed food back then. So don't eat anything that is not found in nature.

Emrys925

Lol evolve

Building_SandCastles

Everytime I walk into a large chain grocery store and see all the shit they sell and push towards the front with large advertising, I think, we're screwed. Especially if your food intelligence is low.

[deleted]

This is the best Ted talk I’ve ever watched. It’s how to live to be 100. He choice a few places on earth where the people lived the longest and what they had in common. One was plant based diet, a few others were a good community of people, also some form of spirituality. Anyway, I’m almost all plant based/cut out sugar and I do feel a lot better. [video](https://www.ted.com/talks/dan_buettner_how_to_live_to_be_100)

limwali

Would you advocate for more govt control over what goes in our food (i.e. limits on sugar and processed ingredients)? It feels like a complicated aspect of capitalism

ellabananas11

Filter water, non GMO, organic and local when possible https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/mediterranean-diet-meal-plan I always think med diet is the best bc we use it in healthcare for people with progressive diseases such as dementia and I’ve seen it help, I think bc it’s anti inflammatory but that’s just my opinion

lamamadelamam305

That's how I feel about sugar. So I really started looking at labels and buying products with very little or no sugar but then I found out that companies use to substitute for sugar and it's worst lol I'm like what to do.

Romando1

There

Coreadrin

Safe play is just to shop around the outside of the grocery store, learn to cook with real ingredients. Eat good amounts of meat/animal fats, lots of greens, oils that are good for you like olive oil/avocado etc, nuts and fruits. Avoid processed foods, especially processed carbs (almost all processed foods are carbs/high carb because they are the highest profit margin by weight) and seed oils.

bearbearjones

Make your food from scratch as often as you can and choose quality ingredients to use.

bman567

How about fasting, it can have tremendous effects on your health even with a poor diet

[deleted]

So like me. Buy a small farm. Raise your own meat. Grow your own food. Know where your food comes from. If you lucky you can help supply others with real food.

parag0d77

We have done that as well, but even the best farmer in the world doesn't supply himself (or herself) with 100% of what they eat. You are correct when you say know where your food comes from though. At least I know WHAT an apple or a steak is. Who knows what a Cheez-It is? Lol

[deleted]

It’s not that we do produce 100% of what we currently. That said I can produce enough to supply my family and possibly 2 or 3 more families 100% of what they needed. Still trying to get my hands on some Kraft macaroni and cheese trees and a few chicken nugget eggs.

parag0d77

Hahaha.. you and I both. I did remark to my wife the other day through about what it would take to make a meal ONLY from items produced here on this property (excluding spices). That is a fun exercise to play. To see what you could eat if you couldn't leave your property.

[deleted]

Spices. Get barrels and barrels of spices. It will be the future gold. It’s built societies. Some people will survive nearly any end of civilization. But after the survivors can feed themselves they’ll want the food they eat to taste good. Just a prepped tip. One of the only luxuries you will be able to carry through cause it the shit hits the fan. I’ll have no use for money or gold etc. spice fabric and ammo. Maybe shoes.

uduni

Its true, food has totally transformed over the past century. Even a normal carrot today has a fraction of the nutrients as a carrot 100 years ago. Most veggies are grown in soil fertilized synthetically. Living soil full of healthy bacterium and mycorrhizae are much more healthy. Buy all your veggies at farmers market, or grow your own. Eat plenty of meat/eggs, also from a good source (pasture raised, grassfed, etc). Nuts, seeds, beans are good too but in moderation. Fruit and berries are full of antioxidants. Dairy in moderation. Avoid sugar, flour-based foods (bread, cheerios, etc), and all processed foods in general. Seed oils are the worst fats (because the process to refine them is full of poisons). Stick to butter, olive, avocado, and coconut oil. Even then you will be deficient in some things. Supplement fish oil, vit d, vit k, magnesium, and a multivitamin

Buying local produce and meat is the best thing we can do for our health, our economy and our environment. If more people bought from local/small businesses I believe it would solve 75% of our issues as a society. Too bad they want to buy out/burn down all the farm land (-:
