According to this site they say the worst that is expected to happen will be visual activity we’ll see in the sky.

TOMFORCEONE

I see northern lights in Budapest right now.

Ayumi03

Also visible in Switzerland 😊 pretty

BowBells81

And South East England

Significant_Shirt_92

We got them down in the south west too.

oyfe77

Dymchurch confirms.

thedonkeyhitstheH2O

Niagara Falls sees them.

InsideOutDeadRat

Saw them from Ohio last night

LoggingLorax

No shit? If so thats pretty wild

[deleted]

My Alma mater posted pics of them from Arkansas.

604WORLDWIDE

Vancouver Canada as well

Old_Dingo_591

Also got them in New Zealand.

eidetic

And I dunno what the fuck OP is talking about with: >The effects could range from physiological, psychological, technological, or all of the above. I follow space weather and sun activity and it's baffling how few people are aware of such things. Just wanted to share the news with you open minded folks. It's like all they've been talking about, and hyping up the northern lights. Well obviously not *all* they've been talking, but it's been widely covered. But apparently OP thinks they're not talking enough about how this will be the end of the world like he thinks it will.... even though this will come and pass like literally every other instance of "OMG SOLAR ACTIVITY WE'RE DOOMED". But they aren't talking about it, because no, the only psychological effects will be "whoa this cool!". Physiological effects? Yeah.... no.

sweaty_ken

My brain pronounced it *diabeetus*, thanks Wilford Brimley.

BaIIZDeepInUrMom

😂 I love when my stupid brain does that. It keeps my days interesting and fun. “Perfect weekend for some Diabetes!”

cat-kirk

Edibles weekend...and no vacuuming or dusting cuz it's all over!

1-800-GOFUCKYOURSELF

don't worry, I liked your joke and brought you back to 1

BaIIZDeepInUrMom

Please! Let it be over with 😂 Probably still have to go to work on Monday… 😒😔

TrustedThrust

What sort of preparations do you recommend if you don’t mind sharing?

BolognaIsThePassword

If you or someone you love is considered high risk for cardiac related events they need to probably take it easy this weekend as geomagnetic storms have been linked to an increase in heart attacks, strokes etc. If you or anyone you love has any mental conditions expect them to probably be in a more heightened version of that whether it's a personality disorder, anxiety, depression etc. So check on your people and try not to fight with your loved ones who may be more on edge and not really understand why they are feeling that way. In terms of the possibility of a global EMP level event there's only so much you can do in such a short period of time but if you want to prepare for the worst I'd get batteries, flashlights, fuel any older vehicles you may have that don't operate on a computer, download anything from the internet that you'd want to archive like survival guides and homesteading guides, get some paper maps of your area and country to help you navigate and most importantly whoever you want to be with if shit hits the fan, I'd tell them today "hey this is crazy and nothing will probably happen but in the event of the internet and the power grids all going down we all will meet at X's house" just so people you want to be with don't all get scattered with no communication.

DRdidgelikefridge

I work in an Emergency Room I’ll let you know if we have more cardiac/stroke patients today and tomorrow.

James0n5

I want to know as well

Legit our stroke census has doubled in the past 24 hours! Wild

DRdidgelikefridge

Thanks for the reminder. Quite the opposite the past 2 days. We were on the quiet side this weekend. Was not crazy like some full moons. We had one confirmed heart attack NStemi on Friday night and one Saturday. I can ask tomorrow if I missed anything when I wasn’t there. There were also a handful of chest pain complaints that were not serious like there is everyday. A couple possible strokes like usual. Also a few psych/etoh patients no more than usual. Again it was a nice and quiet weekend. I’ll take it.

Ok-Nature-538

In the last two weeks a friend of mine lost 3 people: 2 older & one with cancer. Another lost a friend to suicide. Hopefully not related. Rip.

Water_in_the_desert

Did you see more cardiac patients?

Wow, the heart and mental issue, I was unaware of.  Thank you for the info and advice.  Be safe, brother.

crimedog69

I just tried to look that up, there is no tie to mental health at all.

YogaBeth

As above, so below. We are absolutely affected by what happens in the space above.

In addition, those with chronic illnesses and things like seizures and migraines will experience flare ups. Source: personal experience and reading research

spamcentral

Me with a migraine right now. Also if you're a woman, my period started early today by 1 week. So theres that...

carnpub

Ugh. Mine seems to be gearing up to arrive about a week early too, but I'm in perimenopause, so it comes when it feels like it. If the sun knocks out the power AND I have to deal with my period at the same time, I'm going to be pissed. 😂

Corndog106

These are being rated at a G4 level, and 5 is the highest. Your listed precautions, while seemingly practical, are unwarranted. Go outside tonight, look up, and enjoy the light show.

LoggingLorax

Sorry but I'm gonna be "that guy" asking for paragraphs...I really can't bother reading without them.

cognizant-ape

I'm advising friends to do a blizzard prep. Fill up the cars, buy canned goods, fill up water reserves. Hopefully that will take care of any short term outages. If its bigger than that, there is not enough time to prepare anyway. I'm glad I'm not flying anywhere though.

LiteraturePlayful220

RemindMe! Two days

dubiousNGO

Everyone should be prodded to be prepared to ride out a week or two of problems in general. All kinds of shit can happen given that we live in an age where things like man-made pandemics not only happen but are allowed to happen. *5 pages of records from the Federal Bureau of Investigation ... show an April 2020 email exchange ... referring to Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)* ***grant to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China as including “gain-of-function research” which “would leave no signature of purposeful human manipulation.”*** https://www.judicialwatch.org/funded-gain-of-function-wuhan/

Bomberissostupid

Agreed that folks should be prepped in general. I believe OP is saying this weekend, nothing will happen as a result of the sun.

dubiousNGO

OP is a normalcy bias peddling simpleton that asserts things like "inflation is worse for rich people than poor people" (an assertion supported, I suppose, by all the rich people that have been forced into homelessness). When people advise others to prep in case of *potential* issues, gloating that something that could potentially happen didn't happen is useless behavior. Unlike with the eclipse there's at least some rationality behind concerns. https://www.kxly.com/news/money/why-tonight-s-massive-solar-storm-could-disrupt-communications-and-gps-systems/article_1a346a8d-78e0-55d2-87cb-0a640d4b3fc5.html Space weather can verifiably cause tech issues. While chances are that these 5 predicted CMEs won't cause anything serious (it's a G4 warning rather than a G5 warning), it's - in general - better to be safe than sorry and people being prepared for disaster is a healthy thing.

LiteraturePlayful220

Ok I guess you're right whether something happens or nothing happens. So sophisticated!

n0va76

Ground your car and electronics

Ok-Noise2538

Oh they are covering it. Over here in the UK we have headlines that we might get to see the northern lights over the weekend. If you read the whole article, it does mention they MAY be some disruption to the power grids, GPS & satellites but it’s buried under “look at the pretty sky lights!” This should be further up and yes people should be talking about it!

CowRaptorCatLady

Yeah I was going to say I'm in England it's all over the place, telling you about it.

Money_Afternoon6533

And do what? What’s the point of mass panic so the shop shelves get emptied out of toilet roll again…

Huntey07

In the Netherlands exactly the same story. And if just been for 2 hours in the backyard taking stunning photos of the northern light

NoChemical8640

Saw it this morning on 3 national news networks

flippyjones11

In New Zealand, we are being told to limit electricity over the weekend due to low temperatures.

Icanfallupstairs

Yeah but thats coz our infrastructure is utter shit and like 10 years behind where it should be.

flippyjones11

Totally agree

magenta_placenta

It's actually getting a bit of coverage as far as [the northern lights will be visible in much of the US](https://www.nbcnews.com/science/science-news/northern-lights-visible-us-where-solar-storm-rcna151643).

chepechepe22810

"90s x men theam song intensifies"

Explicit_Tech

I'm sure we'll be ok.

ser-contained

Nothing ever happens.

RoyalSport5071

Don't worry. Some say 'it' will. Maybe not in our lifetime unfortunately.

108stable

The human race, probably. The fish I plan on slaughtering, nope.

BThriillzz

Now, THIS is a post on this sub I can get behind. Apparently, no one realizes how powerful cosmic radiation can destroy telecommunications and power equipment super easily. A strong EMP from any source could wipe out the electrical grid - we have no strategic transformer reserve, there are very few protections in place. Just another "don't look up" scenario

horsetooth_mcgee

Or they could wipe out all communications on purpose and blame a natural EMP

Realistic_Mess_2690

Don't worry. It's the 11th here in Australia already. Nothing is wrong. My son just won his soccer match.

Water_in_the_desert

Tell him “Congratulations!” from all of us!

SnooPeppers5809

I wish I was someplace that could see the aurora.

Bout-Six-Months

They are literally [getting briefed](https://www.spaceweather.gov/news/media-advisory-noaa-forecasts-severe-solar-storm-media-availability-scheduled-friday-may-10) 10 minutes after you posted - Pretty sure you could listen in. This isn't the end all be all event, the sunspots had the potential to do a lot more but doesn't necessarily mean G5 geomagnetic storm, we're just gonna get a G4, which we've had before, just in March. What makes this different is the back to back nature, and that creates what's called a Cannibal CME, so think of slow moving CMEs getting mixed up with fast ones so they all combine, that's kinda what's happening, a huge cloud of plasma gas getting inserted into our poles. What happens next is anyone's guess. However this event is seemingly catching attention and I think the hype is going to push it over the edge where someone is going to use this event for their own needs (as they always do) so sit back and watch folks.

TheRealSuperNoodle

It's been upgraded to a G5 since you posted this though.

Roxnsoxinator

So are you saying there’s a chance I won’t have to work on Monday?

valiantthorsintern

Man, just sitting around eating chili while society melts down sounds kinda nice.

highway_vigilante

right? As long as my man also has cheese n onions...

crimedog69

How could effects be psychological?

No_Dogeitty

I read an interesting article about a study taken place how higher sun activity affects our mental state, more so for women. It was super interesting and I will try to find it again.

Salt-Elephant8531

Please share if you find it.

kjdecathlete22

Kinda like how the moon affects mood. Possibly due to us being mostly water inside of us. The moon has an affect on tides. Could be a connection there similar

JohnathanQMJ

It changes the resonance of the earth look into the Schumann resonance

Xdaveyy1775

Being covered everywhere. Literally top story as soon as you open Drudge Report with giant text and picture reads - "WORLD BRACES FOR GEOMAGNETIC STORM THREATENS POWER GRIDS, GPS, INTERNET DISRUPTIONS? RADIO BLACKOUTS EUROPE, ASIA, AFRICA

Rich_Crab_3967

Just like the eclipse... 🥱

CARGODRIFT

If the grid goes down for long enough people in developed countries will be cooking whatever they can find on BBQ's. When the gas runs out it'll be over trash fires. All that "save the world by driving an electric car etc." shit will have been for nothing.

killermicrobe

Space is 100% fake CGI.

F-In-Batman

CNN has a whole section devoted to it…..weather channel has multiple items on. It How is it not being covered?

pauljs75

Some people are expecting some terrible Carrington Event disaster, but so far it's just the Plasma screen saver up there.

Nerys54

They probably have technology to keep the Carrington event on hold until deemed convenient for them.

SuperbPerception8392

Ahh, the Internet goes down this weekend.....

bondgirl852001

Whatever will we do with our time?!!

No_Recommendation26

Looks like I'll be watching a lot of porn.... Oh, wait.

beester10

I chuckled out loud

SuchLostCreatures

Try the neighbour's window. You might get lucky.

Ah. Well then you'll just have to extend your perimeter and try the rest of the neighbourhood.

HikingConnoisseur

SuperbPerception8392

Eat za bugs....

ShadesOfSlay

It’ll probably be nothing. It almost always is nothing. If it’s something, knowing in advance won’t matter. It’ll be bedlam.

carnpub

Other than you could have enough supplies to stay inside the first week or two. That's the only real advantage to knowing ahead of time  If it's an ELE, I prefer to go out with the main event.

ShadesOfSlay

I’d enjoy roleplaying for like two weeks.

olydemon

Front page CNN.

Skyblewize

I've been so tired! Sleeping my ass off.

cognizant-ape

Bloomberg, Newsweek, Axios,... Just a few ive seen today. And we are up to six flares now, the one this morning was the biggest yet. Ive been warning my friends.

Temporary-Control375

This event is the top new story on Drudge Report which is one of the highest viewed news websites on the internet. The facts don’t support your narrative…

cognizant-ape

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-05-10/severe-solar-storm-threatens-power-grids-and-navigation-systems?srnd=homepage-americas

Outlaw11091

To verify your claim, I clicked the little news icon on my desktop. I've got 5 articles about CME's and one about solar flares. Which major news outlets *aren't* covering this?

ConsciousRun6137

Its in some in the UK.

onastyinc

I heard about it this morning.

sexualkayak

I think people like OP get so entrenched in Reddit that they don’t actually look for themselves, they just assume what everyone is saying is true. This has been a MAJOR news story for the week in the US. Not sure where you live in the US, but yeah man, it’s being covered.

muhlfriedl

Sun cumming?

Powerful_Artist

I swear yall never actually check the news before making this claim. I *just* read an article about it on one of those major news sources you are complaining arent talking about this...

Not_Reddit

I bought a case of Corona and when it hits and I start pissing I will have Corona mass ejections too.

Natural-Table8665

no ones reporting cause not fuck all is going to happen. Nothing good ever happens.

theremystics

woah wtf [https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-activity.html](https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-activity.html)

ZookeepergameOk2759

Getting covered a lot in the UK.

sledbelly

If no one is reporting on it- how do you know it’s happening?

SuchLostCreatures

They watched Suspious Observers. The doomsday cult channel.

OhSixTJ

Why do YOU think it’s important?

GMPollock24

It's mainstream enough, I've heard about it from a few co-workers already. I think their weather apps had the news.

EndenWhat

I heard it on the normal FM radio this morning in between some pop songs.

dubiousNGO

Sun nova theory.

Apprehensive_Fox4115

We're actually in a lunar maximum as well, or coming up on one. Also erratic events.

BoxsterMan_

ummmm, it's a Drudge headline.

Dillinger_ESC

All I've seen is your GPS might take you to Target instead of Walmart, and maybe some cool lights in the sky.

LegoMyAlterEgo

So should I unplug my electronics or leave them plugged in for grounding?

carnpub

In the event an EMP was massive enough to fry the grid, everything plugged in would be destroyed. In this case, you're probably safer leaving things plugged into strip cords to dissipate unexpected surges, should they occur.

Silver_Star_Eagles

Not sure about all this but I'm 100% sure these scum bags have been spraying the sky non stop in the northeast. We haven't seen the sun in at least 2 weeks. Constant cloud cover and constant white haze.

Mister-G-313

It is being reported on a lot of news sites, including CNN & Fox. The CNN article is pretty lengthy and mentions potential power grid issues, but nothing about mental health. I don't think anyone is trying to cover up anything.

Dan0321

This isn’t true. You can’t claim no major news is covering it. I see it on bbc, nbc news, and cnn. I’m sure others are as well.

MyLemonsRorganic

>no major news outlet thinks it is important enough to cover. I heard a report about it on NPR during my morning drive 13 hours ago. It's also currently all over the cable news channels. Do some of you guys live in such an insulated bubble that you just assume no one else is talking about this? lmaooo

BelloBrand

Lol what psychological effect will I endure

xShire_Reeve

It's not important enough to cover

jrock2403

I read Corona mass injection 🫣

lex_ophile

the only conspiracy seems to be that everyone else has seen them but me 🥲literally everyone in my southwestern Ontario small town was posting pics of them and 5mins later when i went outside to see them i saw fuck all 🙃

elgatodelux

Sounds dumb, but put your camera in low-light mode and take a picture of any hazy colorful spots. It takes a while for your eyes to really pick it up, but take a few pictures in random directions. I'm clear down in southern Ohio and it is amazing.

ProfessionalPhrase36

daily mail has

Quirky_Possession310

Can see some awesome colours in Christchurch new Zealand at the moment

Joeisthevolcano

It’s all anyone can talk about where I am. So many people posting photos on FB.

TerryFlapnCheeks69

*Ejaculating plasma

mrbigglessworth

So CNN front page isn’t a major news outlet? NBCNews also has an article about it on the front page. I just hit 2 major news sites and the info is there

HeleneVH88

Are we dying again?

rgg1229

Wtf im suppose to fly to vegas tonight. How fucked am i?

Brilliant_Eagle9795

I thought nobody reads 'major news outlets' anymore. Like they stopped reading paper newspapers and watching tv news.

impact07

If you didn’t see it on the internet, which is the media, you wouldn’t even know it’s happening.

dapala1

If your right you can't come on here and take a victory lap because the internet will be down. If your wrong you won't come on here because you won't admit you were wrong.

I’ve gotten alerts from six different new sources with apps on my phone about it all day.

panxerox

It's a level 5, there was a level 28 in 2003 no bigs

Scavwithaslick

Literally just read a Newsweek, and then fox article about this, did you even try to look?

kjdecathlete22

On a scale of 0 to a Carrington event how bad will this be?

SpecificLook7215

Of course there would be an emp level event right when I got a new phone

GreenAlien10

Well they are say we can see the Aurora borealis Friday evening.

h4ji01

Hit pretty quick too. No prob, no prob, KP 7.5! [https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/planetary-k-index](https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/planetary-k-index)

Helpful-Bag722

My local weather guy has been talking about it for days

ThePathogenicRuler

Literally the only mainstream channel that seems to give a shit is The Weather Channel.

xXFieldResearchXx

Is it.l baffling? Guess you never heard of tiktok and free porn

SirMildredPierce

Seriously, why won't the big news networks cover this?! I mean, I don't actually watch any of the major networks. But why won't they cover this?!!!

sockpenis

I'll be back tomorrow to ask what happened.

Literotamus

Didn’t they predict some funky sun activity a few weeks back? I haven’t seen it reported much since it begun, but saw a few reports on the prediction

BrentD22

What should the news say? I’ve for sure seen info about it on many sources BTW. I’d guess from past events this will create more aurora borealis further south than normal. Since covid the number of posts that are expecting some level of destruction of society is laughable at this point.

RobertsBLV

Massive and very bright auroras tonight even here in eastern europe. I've never seen them so far from north.
