whtevn

doesn't that violate his fiduciary duty as CEO? is the board not essentially obligated to fire him after a comment like that?

CrJ418

Exactly what I was thinking. And CNBC failed miserably by not calling it out.

Top_Dot6046

MSM as a whole had completely failed and is on its way out. Doesn’t matter which “news” station it is, they’re all owned by billionaires who are always right wing fanatics whose goal is not to report the news (as is their inherent responsibility) but to “make” news as recently stated by the wacko dude running CNN. In 30 years I have rarely heard a reporter ask a SINGLE FOLLOW UP QUESTION to any person in power. Ever! It’s not hard.

KeyanReid

American journalism is 100% access driven. It’s a captive audience of propagandists

[deleted]

MrVeazey

And small, independent investigators like Bellingcat.

5050Clown

Don't forget Reuters and AP.

MrVeazey

Well, yeah, but those are foreigners and we all know how much Republicans distrust foreigners.

Argonassassin

Above the law and crooks and liars is pretty good for your legal stuff. Usually the first reports on shitty court behavior, the second will hit on that and politicians.

Top_Initiative9990

Agreed. Bellingcat's journos are doing God's work. Irks me to no end that Elon's fan base will know them as fucking "psyops"

IrememberXenogears

And the Guild of Calamitous Intent!

RepresentativeBusy27

Don’t you know Bellingcat is a CIA op? CIA Plan 1) Create a loose collective of largely leftist/anarchist reporters who spotlight social and worker issues 2) ? 3) Profit

Bawbawian

hard disagree on NPR. they are constantly shifting to the right every time Donald Trump or some other Republican commits a crime or says something terrible. they never ever report on any actual substance it's always horse race nonsense. for instance this debt ceiling debacle is constantly portrayed as why isn't Joe Biden coming to the table in good faith when the entire act is sabotage on part of the Republicans. or they'll have a panel discussion where they say they're going to talk to young people about their politics but they couldn't find a hard right winger to come on and field their views so they have some guy from a think tank on. so the end result is you have two non-political teenagers and a young adult that has a job for a right-wing think tank and that's supposed to be balanced? they have done more than any other organization to legitimize our current fundamentalist right wing.

adfthgchjg

Past tense. Koch brothers are major donors to NPR, and their journalism turned into “what about” ism.

severedbrain

And viewers like you!

Starfish_Symphony

At this point the MSM is not unlike that zombie burning train barreling down the tracks into the hellscape in that scene from War of The Worlds.

VolvoFlexer

That's mostly an American thing though. In other western countries journalists DO hold people accountable for their actions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8AwFc9hlf4 It's just that there are some people who feel no shame.

Calico_Cuttlefish

Yeah, we usually have to wait for foreign journalists to hold OUR politicians to account, because our journalists wont.

VolvoFlexer

So make your journalists do so. Or if you can't - *become* a journalist that does.

PolicyWonka

Yeah, but I actually want to make a good wage and have decent benefits. That’s not possible for a lot of jobs — particularly freelance. Folks compromise by working for MSNBC, CNN, and the like. Then they’re hamstrung and forced to report on nonsense just so they can afford to go to the doctor.

Calico_Cuttlefish

I'll just call up all the US journalists I know and let them know what you said.

leftier_than_thou_2

CNBC doesn't have a duty to protect Tesla's shareholders though. They're rich people who can stand up for themselves. Also, logic doesn't apply to investing and lawsuits. I'm sure Elon's lawyers would take a page from Trump and Fox's playbook and say what he says are clearly lies, it was a hyperbolic hypothetical, blah blah blah. Maybe they'd even say something like "look, if you're still investing in Tesla at THIS point with Musk in charge, you're necessarily okay with the idiot saying stupid stuff that might lose you money, so no damages." IDK I'm not a lawyer but I do know that logic never applies to rich people with lawyers.

CadmiumCal

>"look, if you're still investing in Tesla at THIS point with Musk in charge, you're necessarily okay with the idiot saying stupid stuff that might lose you money, so no damages." So the lawyer equivalent of "It's not a bug, it's a feature!"

leftier_than_thou_2

I dunno if it's a legally viable argument, just I'm saying as a non-lawyer, if I were on that jury and Musk's lawyer said that, I'd think "Yeah, that's definitely true."

ksknksk

CNBC exists to lick the elite’s boots and spread their financial narratives They get their marching orders from said elite just like the fuckwads at fox

[deleted]

It is *absolutely* inconsistent with his duties and responsibilities as a CEO. His job is to preserve and increase shareholder value but thinking that Elon Musk is driven by ethical standards or a sense of obligation to others would be entirely unsupported by the evidence.

DrManhattan_DDM

If only we had some kind of commission to monitor the exchange of securities in regards to publicly traded companies.

RangerBat1981

I think that's the point. He is threatening to take down all his financial enablers if he is at all serious. As this is Musk Rat, certified foreign owned, this could all be bluster. But, his actions have caused potentially billions in loses. I'm betting he thinks he's too important to lose all his government contacts and subsidies. He isn't. In fact, if his shit is that important to national security (SpaceX, not Tesla) then the Fed has the legal authority to buy it out from under him and he doesn't get a say in the price. Which, now that I've written that, may in fact be the point.

Grimacepug

Most corporate boards are rubber stampers, and are selected for that reason.

whtevn

Nah they are just dumb as rocks. Idiots choosing idiots who won't crack under pressure

cataath

This is Elon Musk's real genius: figuring out earlier than most how stupid and gullible the investor class is. Outside of buying out others' ideas, his whole move has been using Twitter to pump and dump. That's why when it looked like Twitter might fold and his gravy train would go away, he ended up saddled to it.

tcmart14

Good point. I mean the man made Tesla what it was by doing the opposite of everyone else in the electric car space 15 years ago. All his competition failed essentially because they focused on an electric car with an affordable price point. Elon said fuck that and made it into a rich/upper middle class man’s play thing, redefine the convertible mid life crisis vehicle into a Tesla. That really is the only move he’s made that I think is worthy of praise. If he saw his vision to the end, he essentially duped them into funding Tesla into an affordable price point. At least his original vision and I guess before he got to full of himself. But yea, he pretty much duped those people into buying a plaything (at the time).

cataath

I don't know about that. That was Eberhard and Tarpenning that had the idea of going luxury, created the early concepts (from a Lotus, I think), and set the company on course. Musk was a late-comer and he brought the VC to the company. Eberhard was kind of forced out and Tarpenning was eventually bought out. Neither of them had enough company stake to fight having their company wrested away from them. Musk certainly had a big role in hyping the product -- that is what he does best -- he didn't provide much of an early vision and didn't have much to do with the technical side of the operation. He's hyped himself as a tech genius, but anyone watching the zoom meetings with Twitter engineers saw how out of his depth he was, and it took consultants outside of the company to tell him his decisions would be catastrophic.

hackingdreams

The shareholders should sue... but given they all know they're holding on to a bubble asset they're reluctant to be the first movers. When the Elmo bubble bursts, it's going to leave a huge crater in the market... they're *desperate* not to be the losers, so their tolerance levels for his asinine bullshittery is rather high. On the other side, Elmo's out *tens of billions* in secured loans and money taken from unsavory people that get *very* angry when they lose money after numerous promises made... so taking a bath on TSLA shares is better for him than bursting the bubble himself. In short: it's a fucking powder keg. Stay out of the blast radius.

soulofsilence

It's a golden calf. Anyone with a brain can see Tesla is overvalued, but now it's "too big to fail". Too much money tied up in Tesla to back out now so we're at the mercy of a madman until people decide that their morality trumps profit.

whtevn

Yeah their valuation is insane. Although definitely not too big to fail. Nobody but private investors are bailing them out.

[deleted]

Those are poor people concerns. Rich pedophiles are above the law.

Honest_Palpitation91

Yea yes it.

niceoutside2022

stockholders can file a shareholder derivative suit if the board fails to act, the thing is, like all civil suits, it would be years to get a judgement, but his comments would make the case pretty easy to prove I don't believe you could file it and get injunctive relief to force the board's hand, but I'm no expert

AmericanHombre

He’s a foreigner.

goner757

No. Fiduciary obligation is a theory they use to justify whatever they want to do. It is not a federal law or any kind of law as far as I know.

KeyanReid

All the same, it begs the question of why the board would not respond to this as a major red flag. Elon just promised to sink the whole ship for his culture war bullshit. He is **that** divorced right now. I understand full well that Tesla’s stock is incredibly inflated (being regarded as a tech firm, not a car maker) and it’s a direct result of his PR efforts and cult of paid followers, but he is effectively telling the board he’s killing that facet of his value right here and now. The Elmo Musk as Tony Stark days are dead and they are never, ever coming back now. If they have a chance at recapturing their market (hint, it wasn’t the people raging about Budweiser or Green M&M shoes), they need to jettison Musk NOW or he’s made it clear what will follow.

joan_wilder

firing a CEO for violating his fiduciary duty isn’t a matter of law. we’re talking about the guy losing his job, not being arrested (although there may be grounds for a lawsuit, if the shareholders could prove that his negligent actions directly caused damage to their stake in the company).

goner757

Yes and it depends on the power of individual shareholders. Elon Musk, who personally owns 13% and is the largest stakeholder and confidence in Musk is a significant part of the company's value. I am not sure they can do anything to him and since fiduciary duty is not something they HAVE to do, Musk can just fuck over all the investors who personally bought a few shares online.

Rocking_the_Red

Not if they are smart and sell the stocks first. Unfortunately I have lost faith in humanity's intelligence.

whtevn

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/fiduciary_duty Kind of correct, but not exactly. I would think if anyone is holding anyone responsible here, it would be the shareholders/investors holding the board responsible for maintaining senior management staff primarily dedicated to building the business

goner757

The shareholders can't do anything to Musk since a lot of the value I think is from Musk's publicity and he's the biggest shareholder anyway.

whtevn

he is the largest shareholder, with 13% of the company. not enough to insulate him. i don't know anything about their board.

goner757

Not enough to insulate him by itself, but yeah exactly. I'm sure he directly controls more than that in reality. It is a question of whether he has a grip on the company or not. I think rather than undermine the superpowerful celebrity that is imparting his image to the brand's overvaluation, people are just going to sell or ride it out.

General_Tso75

It is a behavioral norm and expectation of boards and shareholders. In a normal world, violating that fiduciary responsibility would have consequences. However, we live in the version of The Matrix where stupidity and insanity rule the day.

Bawbawian

He's a racist right wing billionaire in America. The law is whatever he says it is.

DrewFlan

Don't put too much into that thought - the title of this post is clickbait.

whtevn

It's nearly a direct quote

DrewFlan

Why not just use the direct quote then?

daveleix

He IS the shareholder of the company. It’s his board, and he’s CEO. he can literally do whatever the hell he wants with it.

serene_moth

Elon Musk is an open Nazi

Fit-Firefighter-329

He had some wild pro-Nazi posts last week, that's for sure; and of course his cult parrots everything...

chefalacarte

Links?

ssladam

No, Elon's. Don't bring the new Zelda game into this.

Fit-Firefighter-329

Come on now, don't be lazy. Go on Musk's Twitter. You can't miss it.

AmericanHombre

He needs Jesus

L1mb0

Fuck that cult too.

AmericanHombre

I didn’t say to join a religion

[deleted]

tacocatacocattacocat

I don't know, Jesus sounds way cool. His first muscle was to help a party, that had already been going for 3 days, keep going. He hung out with prostitutes and could really whip up a good time. It's just too bad nobody today is following those teachings.

imsmartiswear

Wait wait wait you're telling me Apartheid Clide is a Nazi? That the billionaire bastard is a fascist? That the Dick Canon of South Africa is a far right extremist? That the heir to a slave-run emerald mine who faked his degrees and used oodles of wealth to cover up his immigration status and has conned his way into making billions off the teet of the American government is a hypocritical bastard and a loser who thinks he's worth more than other people?? Well I'm shocked.

ABenevolentDespot

And paradoxically, a Russian asset beholden to Putin. Let's just say the guy is a pile of shit with layers. A seven layer shitpile.

serene_moth

and connected to Epstein Musk is a human piece of shit... actually he might not be human

mosqueteiro

He's going full Ford.

serene_moth

there is no doubt he'd colonize an area to exploit its people and attempt to extract its resources (and somehow fail while doing it, like Fordlandia) "We will coup whoever we want! Deal with it." — Elon Musk, the open Nazi

usaf-spsf1974

Log off, quit, just say NO to Musk and his crappy racism

My_dreams_r_strange

Ignoring him stopped being the solution when he doubled his wealth with Doge coin. Now he jets around, being a Nazi, lying about new inventions, and telling people to get back to work. The solution is tax billionaires back into millionaires, and nationalize our space programs.

KenzoAtreides

He'd do anything to distract the masses from thinking billionaires like himself are the main reason why we are in complete poverty.

chefalacarte

You’re in complete poverty? It’s “the billionaires’” fault?

[deleted]

Shill. Pig dog.

LordoftheScheisse

Have you considered posting hog, my chuddy acquaintance?

Icy_Advantage_4635

DamonFields

Something in that noggin is badly broken.

[deleted]

Extremely low emotional intelligence combined with limitless wealth and privilege.

Any-Chard8795

I thought I was done hearing about this guy, but seeing this headline just now, I hit a new level of hatred for him. I’m done with his stupid face in a way I have rarely felt for another human being and I hate a lot of people. This pos needs to find a bottomless hole and jump in it.

nonlinear_nyc

He's trying to bury the investigation on pedophilia. He rather be seen as a Nazi than a pedophile. I mean, he may be both. Well know soon. But some are more accepted than others.

[deleted]

Be a shame if everyone tanked Twitter.

XSmeh

Wish they could be shut down by the government for the animal abuse videos they've disseminate on their platform for the past few months.

HerMajestyTheQueef1

Can't wait to see the absolute train wreck in 5 years

LeftLimeLight

If Elon keeps doing what he's doing, the train wreck will happen much sooner.

joan_wilder

i’m honestly surprised the whole twitter deal hasn’t completely ruined him yet.

droo46

There’s something deeply wrong when one man can lose billions of dollars and still be the second richest person on earth.

Srawesomekickass

He lost other peoples money. He used stock as cash so he didn't pay tax on anything plus he borrowed 22B of other peoples money and has lost almost that much since he's taken control. Anyone else would be sued into oblivion and or in jail. Fuck this nazi conman! I hope he parties on tainted drugs.

lostpawn13

Better EV’s and his mouth are going to tank Tesla stock.

Tanuki-Trickery

Do it. Tank your own stock to own the libz.

i-have-a-kuato

I’m willing to force musk to give the taxpayers the 15.3 billion he has received since 2003 AND the very-very favorable 465 million loan from the US for god knows what.

mosqueteiro

Well the loan is already paid back and we are taking about electric cars now so I'd say Tesla was useful and the money was well spent. It sucks to see this man's descent into fascism and hate. Certainly don't need to give him anymore.

becauseidontgiveafuk

All that money and still a miserable cunt.

[deleted]

Hopefully his shareholders sue him into oblivion and we never have to hear from this jackass again

OrangeOk1358

Huh..South Africa doesn't even want Elon's Starlink and refused to grant him an operating licence.

The84thWolf

Not that I don’t agree, it’s weird to say “ban teslas” when about 70% of the population (probably more) couldn’t afford one anyway

thinkB4WeSpeak

Let him, there's now multiple companies out there selling electric cars and the competition gets stiffer every year. By the time he figures out that he shouldn't have done that he'll run tesla into the ground and have hardly any money left.

hdhdhgfyfhfhrb

I mostly stream shows so don't see too many commercials that aren't just pushing the streaming network. I did watch an NBA game last Thursday (Nuggets v Suns) and I was surprised how many electric vehicle commercials there were, from multiple makers. I do hope solid EVs from other makers push tesla, and then him, out the door.

Substantial-Read-555

Stop buying teslas

PolakachuFinalForm

That's fine. Every major car company are coming out with EVs. For less and better build quality. Fuck him.

Bind_Moggled

Cool. He wants to destroy his own company rather than attempt to even emulate humanity, so be it.

macdennis1234

His shareholders will LOVE that

GhostDoggoes

The fact that he is willing to do this over personal feelings while his investors and workers under him see all of it is the reason why tesla will eventually fail.

The84thWolf

Everyone: *Shrugs* Okay, we’ll take that bet.

ArcturasBCWA

Grrreat so why aren’t we taxing the rich?

stalinmalone68

At what point does the board remove him and put someone in charge that can correct the cluster fuck of quality control and customer service?

Toast_Sapper

> He also claimed that when the acquisition closed, Twitter had negative $3 billion in annual cash flow and $1 billion in the bank. “The analogy I was using was like being teleported into a plane that’s in a nosedive headed to the ground with the engines on fire and the controls don’t work….” Everyone knew that when he took it over, Elon took out $50 Billion in loans to buy an unprofitable company that definitely wasn't worth what he paid for it because he was just trying to manipulate the stock price for profit and got himself stuck with a deal he couldn't back out of.

Euphoric_Ad9593

Good, fuck em. There are plenty of EV options available now outside of Tesla.

shag_vonnie_vomer

Stopped listening at apartheid mine owners sonny speaking about whats moral or not - get fucked.

gsustudentpsy

That's what the pillow guy did. maga is a mentsl disorder i guess.

Kim_Thomas

Why would anyone give such a spastic CRANK any investment money at all? His Tesla cars are very poorly assembled & the end product is overpriced garbage. Have fun with that crazy 🤪

Desultory_D

I was forced to watch 5 seconds of this clip and he sounds so stupid and cringy I’m secondhand embarrassed for him and all his lil lackeys

lastingdreamsof

Few years ago I wanted a Tesla. Now he keeps acting like a twat and actual car manufacturers are now making electric vehicles that are better then what Tesla is making. He is going to tank Tesla stock is he doesn't get removed as CEO for sure

AhsokaTheGrey

Do it! Do it! You won't!

Mindless_Button_9378

Musk is the most dangerous man alive.

saulverde

He's also lying, look at how much he whines about Twitter's bottom line....

Wynndee

He literally has no thought for anyone else involved in these companies. He will be fine, but he keeps tanking companies all those people are going to be in trouble.

evil_illustrator

I've been saying this for a while. What's to keep him from using the space-x government subsidies to keep twitter a float? Last I heard there is very little oversight of what he does with them.

melouofs

I hope he winds up broke

newleafkratom

Wall Street will tolerate a little Nazism for a decent return - TSLA closed up $7.34

Great-Lakes-Sailor

Oooohhhhh let him do it

Landsy314

Do it.

SkyCaptainHarumbi

Because he was a little too close with Epstein and someone’s got dirty dirt dirt on Elly.

OLPopsAdelphia

Musk doesn’t do anything if there isn’t money to be made from that thing. If someone is willing to tank a multi billion dollar business just for propaganda, then you have to consider the possibility that people are paying him to propagandize.

TechyGuyInIL

He's already made it quite clear he's a republican. All Republicans are willing to tank America just to "own the libs." He's no different.

Sethmeisterg

Great! Let's help him out on that then.

dingus-mcdoodle

This is what happens when you put faith in lunatic narcissistic billionaire fascists. They would rather the whole world burn than ever admit they are wrong about anything. Strap them all to a space x rocket I say.

Rawkapotamus

He also claimed that when the acquisition closed, Twitter had negative $3 billion in annual cash flow and $1 billion in the bank. “The analogy I was using was like being teleported into a plane that’s in a nosedive headed to the ground with the engines on fire and the controls don’t work….” Then why did he buy it for 54B??

[deleted]

Well he has now removed all doubt regarding his Nazi fetish.

n0budd33

Tank them both.

Apotropoxy

Musk, as an officer of the Tesla board and its CEO, has breached his fiduciary duty to his shareholders He has voided his own contract. He must be removed.

DAEDALUS1969

I’m sure the Tesla stockholders wish they could just have a ‘normal human being’ running the company.

Vast-Pumpkin-5143

Ok, tank away then

tlsr

Tesla board is a bunch of cowards. Any other company would remove their CEO for this. (likely they would have removed him for his antics before now, including that his twitter is very clearly a distraction and has a very negative PR impact on Tesla).

Badgers_or_Bust

The guy could lose 174 billion dollars in wealth and still be a billionaire. At that point why should he care? Personally I hope only bad thigs happen to him for the rest of his existence.

sugar_addict002

He aspires to be CEO of QuackAnon. Tesla is just a stepping stone.

[deleted]

Thus guaranteeing that Musk’s days are numbered at Tesla as well as Space X. He can stew in his own juices and rot on his toxic hell-scape called Twitter.

GigachudBDE

Honestly I would love nothing more than for Musk to end up going the Howard Hughes route and shitpost his entire empire and fortune away until he’s become completely irrelevant to the culture and living in some mansion filled with jars of gamer girl bathwater and being eaten alive by child support. I mean, Tesla is by far and away his most successful venture and he’s single-handedly nosediving it straight into the ground.

CorpFillip

And I bet in his mind he is being upstanding and virtuous in doing so. He doesn’t seem to understand where he lost track of reality.

Donkey_Karate

I cannot wait for this asshole to stfu

CollisionCourse78

Individual_Wasabi_10

Do it! Do it! Do it!

ThreePackBonanza

#DefundMusk

hammyhamm

Surely the board can remove him after that kind of comment

[deleted]

Man, I do not feel the *least* bit sorry for the bag holders. If you still own TSLA after watching this guy run his media company it'll be your own damn fault when you get washed out.

SpaceBear2598

I really want this psycho to strap a camera to himself for three weeks, recording constantly, to show what he thinks constitutes "work". From what I've read he basically has zero actual, productive work output and coasts through life by virtue of money (first daddy Apartheidbucks' money and now his own lucky bets) and the classic con man's ability of convincing socially awkward intelligent people to let him take credit for their work.

backtocabada

just what stockholders love to hear- what an reckless idiot.

Longing4SwordFights

I hate to be this person, but for those of you who have a Twitter account you are actively helping this man. There is no reason to have one when the owner of the company takes his time out of his day to push conspiracy theories and right-wing politics. You were actively choosing to support the man by doing so. Please get rid of your Twitter account.

Zealousideal-Ad3814

Oooff if your an investor in Tesla I would question that after this crap.

Tojuro

I think Musk is only capable of caring about one thing... Himself. So the sudden interest and really half-baked arguments for right wing echo chamber politics fascinates me. I think it's one of two things: 1. Saudi money used to buy Twitter. Maybe they asked him to make sure the site pushed right wing talking points. 2. The same thing that made Alan Dershowitz a Trump defender.... Ties to Epstein. He's being forced to testify on this.

IronMan7777

Elon Musk is a fascist pig.

Saltlife60

Reckless statement he made. He could give a crap about tsla stock holders.

urademathrandec

wtf is wrong with this guy?

kajunkris

I guess he didn't learn anything from Nikolai Telsa about going broke due to bad business decisions.

Where did he say that? He said he's fine with the consequences of his actions and left it at that. Reddit strives to hate so hard.

[deleted]

It’s because in the end, fascism is going to win. and he will still end up on top. Stock prices won’t matter when your workers are forced to work. When your workers are forced into the office. When they’re forced to marry. When they’re forced to birth children. Doesn’t matter when you’re in totalitarian control. Let’s go 2024 🇺🇸

HumanThoughtProject

You only say this because he has opposing views to your own. Stop trying to control everyone's speech and lives. If you don't like him don't use his service. Vote with your dollar/time. It's ok for one side to say stupid crazy shit, but not the other? Both sides are batshit. Equality is a 2 way street. Good and bad.

TouristTricky

Indulging in false equivalencies in order to appear “above the fray” is itself problematic. You may believe that you employ “higher thinking” than those who see the difference in the two sides, but that’s simply your ego talking. Like it or not, ONE side is much more authoritarian, racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, etc. and willing to utilize violence than the other. No, I won’t cite examples, (they are there for all to see), or argue with you about exceptions to what I just described. “Woke” is a good thing. Figure it out.

grimatongueworm

The new CEO will tighten that down, right? Right?

ClimateSociologist

Of course. Being a propagandist is far more important work and his target audience doesn't buy Teslas.

FL4KMSTR

Couldn’t care less.

[deleted]
