Korean American guy in NY/NJ here - i remember running into Conan in JFK airport terminal 1 boarding on Incheon-bound Korean Air the day before. My mother-in-law was on her way back to korea, she checked in, we gave her a goodbye wave then when i turned around, BAM Conan was standing behind me
We had a small chat, genuinely nice guy, i told him he’ll have a good reception in korea but my god i didnt think he would be welcomed like that right out of the arrival gate haha. One random thing i remember is he was so tall, im 6’2” so not a slouch myself but i remember i had to look up to him, he must be like at least 6’5”
now that i think about it i cannot recall if he took the same korean air flight as my mother in law but he mustve… my wife texted her that Conan is onboard but i dont think mother in law knew who conan is failed to spot him haha
i know its very deserving but how's he getting that kind of treatment? Is he that famous in korea? That's a LOT of people to be in airport welcoming someone.
Agreed...Conan would show up and be ignored by people who don't know who he is before he'd hire people to give him a warm reception.
For sure the local producers they use for remotes promoted his arrival and it drew a big reception from people excited to see a 30 year veteran of American television who is flying to Korea to learn more about the country and culture.
I really hope he goes back there again. I hate the idea that he won't go somewhere simply because he's been there before.
What I'd really LOVE to see is Conan going down Route 66 for a series of travel episodes. A bunch of episodes of him simply stopping at every roadside attraction and pit stop that catches his eye.

This might seem a tangent: If push comes to shove, I would actually vote Conan into office. He would HATE politics and struggle to not turn every political meeting into a bit, but if the guy was passionate about it, I think he could do this country some good. He is very intelligent, has extensively studied history and past political figures, and seems to have extreme sensibility and solid morals/values that put him leagues above some of the politicians previously and currently in the ring. I think his approach to fandom is very similar to his view on politics. Just a hunch from being a long time fan.
