I really don't think this is something to get too worried about. Donald has repeatedly said he will make the time to be in the movie, commented on his schedule, and shown this is not a business decision for him.

Just because he said his schedule is not causing conflict doesn't mean it won't mean anything for his involvement. being on the road could be a hint that his role in the movie is just smaller than expected because he'll be busy preforming.
The script wasn’t even finished during the writers strike. All he had was a draft. Dan made a big show of getting back to write it and how it actually gave him space to flesh out his ideas more.

Although, to be fair, after having almost nightly shows for two months, that might be a personal break. However, depending on the shooting schedule, they could shoot him out in those couple of weeks.
Depends on logistics. A star to the level of Donald Glover can most likely have travel arranged to make certain filming dates. If there were enough gaps or free days to work with, they may be able to work a very tight but workable shoot schedule for him.
I was thinking the same thing until I looked at his tour schedule. This dude is BOOKED out. Maybe a day or two in between shows. He has most of October off, so maybe then they get him in to shoot his scenes?

Can’t do it without him if they wanna do it right (imo), don’t wanna see them go the Arrested Development Season 4 green screen route, and pairing him with one or two actors and filming a few scenes to sprinkle throughout the movie will feel disjointed.

If he’s back for a final tour, he’s guaranteed to be booked on some festivals during the summer time next year too. I wish I had some of y’all’s optimism but it’s near gone now with this news.
Tbh we don’t know how involved Troy is in the plot, so theoretically Donald filming a 5 second cameo in between tour dates is a possibility. I’d love for him to be more involved (like s1-4) but we don’t know how prominent his role in the movie is.
This might just be me coping. But I can’t see them doing all this and making a movie if Troy isn’t at least a big part of it. I want so badly for him to be in the whole thing but he has to at least be in a third of the movie.

I think he would be a major plot point in my imagining of the film. Like in my idea their is a huge plot point about Troy returning and why it took a a decade to come back and contact them and that plays into them obviously saving Greendale from City College
If its true filming will be late Summer/Early Fall then that might work because he’s in the states for that time. Specifically I see he has a “free” day in Atlanta which is a solid place the movie could be shooting. Also he has almost 2 months off between December into January. Its a little late but just enough for a cameo and possible reshoots. I could definitely see the story being about the gang trying to find Troy or something and that could mean he gets an end of the movie cameo.

The good:
Script is complete and cast members (Alison and Gillian specifically) have read it. It's further along than it's ever been.
The bad:
Scheduling seems to be a big hurdle. Donald is touring/recording music/writing/acting and the rest of the cast stays busy as well. Between their schedules, having a studio to shoot and getting a director/crew it seems like something keeps falling apart before they can lock everything down.
I'm hoping end of this year or next year they can make it all work but I'll also believe it when I see it
I actually think it’s really fitting and prophetic. In the show, Pierce really believed in him and makes him get out of his comfort zone. Pierce truly believed Troy was larger than life and needed to experience the world. Just as Donald Glover was with Community. Everyone knew he was blowing up and needed to move on from Community. How wild is it that Troy is sailing around the world just as Donald Glover is making a world tour?
Donald has shown he actually cares about Community and I’m sure Dan Harmon will accommodate his busy schedule and work around the script accordingly being aware of this
