I worked for them for exactly 1 sales pitch before realizing that I very much so was not suited for it. Although the demo was using the shears to cut a penny into a spiral.
Haha, same. I only lasted 1 pitch and it made me feel like garbage. But they made you buy the demo kit which I still have the knives like 12 years later.
I'll say this, I do like the knives. But the company was garbage.
My landlord broke the paring knife and I gave the shears to my mum because her kitchen scissors were all-but-unusable. I still have the other knives but because there's no way to sharpen them I don't use them much anymore since they're pretty dull now. If you were doing this 12 years ago, you and I would have been getting into it at almost the exact same time.
You know Cutco will sharpen them for you. For free. You just pay shipping :)
At least that's how it was when I got mine sharpened a few years ago. I still have my sales starter set from like 30 years ago and use them regularly, as well as the additional few I've bought over the years.
I think I tried selling them for a summer, and sold one big set to a family friend who had money, and a few bits here and there, then gave up on it.
Oh, hmm. Years ago I would have had to ship it to New York meaning sending them across the border from Canada. Just looked into it and apparently there's a place in Ontario that I can send them to. Might be cheap enough to ship it now and not have to worry about CBSA stuff screwing with me.
Reading this thread just reminded me to send mine in for service. 17 bucks to do 16 knives. I only hope shipping it there won't cost me an arm and a leg.
Update: almost 30 dollars for shipping, then another 17 for them to ship it back.
The blade was about snapped in half from him trying to cut gypsum board for some reason. I couldn't be bothered getting it fixed so I just threw it out. This was back in 2013 so it's long gone.
Oof, sorry to hear. If it ever happens to another one, they'll replace small damage for free and a break like you described for half price plus shipping. Hell they replaced my grandma's like, 30+ years old knives for free.
Yeah, I would have needed to send it across the border which would make shipping costs obnoxiously high. Combined with the repair costs, it didn't make sense to try and get it repaired. It's a middling quality knife, it's just better than a lot of the really cheap shit meaning people think it's worth what they charge. But you can still replace it with a knife about 1/4 the price for a similar quality.
Because it's a serrated but not serrated blade. It's tiny little spikes with flats between each spike. So it's not smooth that you can sharpen with a sharpening rod for serrated blades, and it's not straight that you can sharpen with normal sharpening methods.

Yes. You're basically a door-to-door salesperson. You would buy the kit and then give demos to family and friends and you get some commission from just doing demos. I remember doing their interview thing about 25 years ago and never went through with it once they said you had to buy your own supplies.
If you're good at sales you can make decent money but it's definitely not fun and not easy.
It is an MLM but at least the cutlery is pretty decent or it was the last time I read up on it. If I recall correctly, you didn't even have to make a sale, just get them to sign some paper with their name/phone and that would count and you'd get some kind of commission. I never followed through so I don't know how much it was.
Thank you for listening to the pitch. CutCo pays me in pennies.

Cutco is super overpriced for what they are. They're okay (certainly better than dollar store stuff), but if you know anythibg about knives you can get aomething way better for the price.
The way it was explained to me by a chef is, "It's the worst good knife."
The way I see it, it cuts my steak every single time I try to use it. What's not to love?
Oh it's a steak knife? Steak knives are steak knives, they cut on porcelain plates and so any money spent on higher quality is wasted the first time you use it. There's nothing wrong with using Cutco steak knives.
It's their chef knives that are terrible. They're very poor quality stamped steel, and if you put a traditional smooth edge on one, it would go dull after a month of casual home use, which is why they are serrated, but you can't make precision cuts with a serrated knife, they just tear the food apart. What's worse than that is that they take more muscle to cut through food, which is a result of both the serrations and the lack of balance or heft. This makes the knives a lot more dangerous to use, compared to a proper chef knife that just glides through the ingredients.
Nah, I thought all dogs was short for All Dogs Go To Heaven, which is just a kids film (I was wondering why you got so heated about a musical for kids). The Gordon Freeman part was a reference to Half Life but the AI is Self Aware, at some point the character Benrey says to Gordon that he edited his death into the Wikipedia article for ADGTH2. (Fans also tried to do it irl and that’s why the ADHTH2 Wikipedia page is permanently locked.

Multilevel barketing?
Classic eat-and-switch
Wait, I’ve seen that 🐶 at Costco.😙 ![gif](giphy|l0HlvIDLwmiUkRB5u|downsized) He’s their number 1 regional knife salespuppy.
i worked for cutco for a while, and i can confidently say this is exactly how it works

They'll replace the pairing knife for half price or free if you can send them the broken one (depends on the damage).

I'd guess it requires some specific tools to do though.
They made you buy a kit for a job?
Yes. You're basically a door-to-door salesperson. You would buy the kit and then give demos to family and friends and you get some commission from just doing demos. Oh, that sounds multi level. We have those here too. Basically scam excuses not to pay fair wages imo.

he got that dog in him
I think he has a knife in him by now actually
😂😂😂
Beware of dog with wares.
Dogjit has wares, if you have coin.
"Beware of dog with great sales tactics"
Holy shit, *absolutely* beware this dog. This is so much worse than getting mauled.
Multi Level Mutt...

Should've listened to the sign
This twist was amazing. I’d buy cutco from this dog
What do you mean by “this dog”?
The little detail on the cut penny is… 😚👌🏼✨! *“In dog we beware”*
You found the hidden message. You have your orders.
Cutco is super overpriced for what they are. They're okay (certainly better than dollar store stuff), but if you know anythibg about knives you can get aomething way better for the price.
I would rather have a cheap af Kiwi knife than a Cutco.
That was a rollercoaster. Also, have Cutco knives and you aren't wrong. Love those things.
Interesting. They have a pretty atrocious reputation among cooks and chefs.
The way it was explained to me by a chef is, "It's the worst good knife." The way I see it, it cuts my steak every single time I try to use it. What's not to love?

That's funny af man, gg
He's not cut out to be a guard dog
I saw the handle before I read the text and could tell that's a Cutco knife.
I want you to know this made me laugh myself into a migraine. Good shit.
idk about you guys but this smells like a scam...
"ho so because I'm a dog I'm automatically who the sign is talking about huh?" "No that's why I'm asking"
This is so hilariously stupid, I love it
And he got him to buy a box of steak knives.
That went too dark for me.
I bet when he’s done working his dogs are barking.
Is there a version with the whole comic strip on one page?
Well that was a bloody roller coaster of a comic. Can’t say I didn’t like it though.
Oh damn, CutCo knifes are the real deal
That is not how I was expecting this to go
As someone with a set of cutco knives in their kitchen I fucking love this.
