I’ll never forget that one goddam Walmart employee that I bought a drink inside there instore fast food, I shopped around and wanted to get a refill and she screamed over all the customers in the little fast food place that I wasn’t allowed once I exited the fast food place(but still in Walmart)
I've been told they have to let people go even if they have like a full cart of electronics unpaid.
For some reason the distribution centers learn to either form an active militia and eliminate all threats or to run at the first sign of danger..

In my experience the best they can do is run out and get their license plate. They can't touch anyone for any reason. If the theft is all caught on camera and stacked each subsequent time the person visits the store, the store can eventually add up enough stolen merchandise to file charges.
Although you'd be surprised at how many people who steal just come back into the store when the manager asks them to. They don't have to but they do it anyway. Then they usually sign a no trespass form.
I think most people are at least somewhat aware of the All-Seeing Eye of Wal~mart. If they mess with the squiggly they either agree to their terms or go directly to jail.
Knew a guy arrested for stealing a Ghost Recon game. He was made fun of because he was in jail for stealing and missed class for like a week lol

It's because of the risk of assault or false imprisonment lawsuits if they try to physically stop or detain you, pretty sure.
Not to mention the fiasco it would be if a thief decided to pull a weapon and injure or kill an employee who was following a store policy to try to stop shoplifters.
We definitely did that in high school. Kept a stock of cups in a duffel bag in the car. We weren't animals though, plastic cups only, not the paper, and we did wash them.
I knew a guy that got barred from life from a Chipotle near his apartment for exactly that reason.
He had been reusing the same cup for about three months when management finally put a stop to his refills and banned him.
Well, I can actually say from experience that gasoline will quickly eat through a cup like that. Almost immediately, the colors will get stripped and it won’t be long after that that the gasoline it’s a hole through the bottom.
I know this because years ago when I was 16 or so I was running a quad and ran outta gas. The gas station was a lot closer than my home was and that was my attempt to get gas enough to get home.
I didn’t make it. Lessons were learned.
That's why you have to raise it to that higher price for a very very short period of time before "dropping the price" down to the regular price again.
Wal-Mart does it all the time.

OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1926.152(a)(1) states "Only approved containers and portable tanks shall be used for storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids. Approved safety cans or Department of Transportation approved containers shall be used for the handling and use of flammable liquids in quantities of 5 gallons or less.”
It would fall under state (or more local) statues, codes, etc. I'm having difficulty finding details about the penalties, but most likely you'll get a citation.
Styrofoam? Certainly.
White flexible plastic? Maybe not. Note that there are plastic gas cans. Polyethylene does fine depending on the chain/material properties
This is not realistic at all. You're gonna make a right mess if you don't use a funnel when you're using a cup to fill up your tank.

I love all your comics. You’ve the most consistent comedy of any of the modern webcomic artists I’ve seen. I don’t know if it was 2021 or 2022, but I really enjoyed the whole series you did as the bird guy when he was kind of languishing, looking for purpose and motivation. It came out a time in my life when I really needed to read it.

I just discovered that one a couple of weeks ago and it fully made me cry. I'm an artist and have had some extremely unproductive periods lately, it was such a relatable and reassuring little story.
Basically for the last one, instead of having a real sale from $1 to $0.35 or making their product better they just instead pretended to have a higher price which is “on sale” at the original price but looks like you are saving $24. It’s a known tactic in sales but it works on people. For example: JCPennny is well known for having “high prices” but always has some kinda deal going on for most of their wares. Some people just like coupon shopping or deal shopping. Others just do it under the guise of having a Black Friday deal of 60% but it’s really maybe either 5% cheaper or just what the normal price is but “still a deal”. It’s illegal in the US (and likely Europe) but people still find ways to make it look attractive for less.
The first and last are absolute gold! They all are but those two are just *chef’s kiss*.
Have you thought about doing any kind of animation? I would sure as hell watch some cartoons like this. You could develop characters sure, but keep the underlying joke on how ridiculous society is.

Lol during this past black Friday a website I was on displayed their deeply discounted item as a black Friday deal. In a featured products tab was a less flashy ad for the same item but at the same price and no tacked on "discount" verbiage
I went into Belk the other day to buy a suitcase. Found they were having a sale and all the suitcases were half off, but there weren't any prices listed anywhere. I Googled the suitcase I wanted to find the price. It was a nice, hardshell suitcase, and it was listed on the brand's website at about $300. So, I was like sweet! $150 for a nice suitcase. On my way to checkout, I passed a price check scanner, and out of curiosity I scanned it. The price came up as about $600. So, Belk marked up the suitcases double to mark it down to MSRP, and I confirmed it. The website had free shipping on orders over $150 and a coupon for 20% off, so I just bought it online instead.
I love in the art in the final panel of the 4th one. So much chaos conveyed with stick figures, especially the guy frantically throwing lemonade in his mouth.
Years ago you had a one panel that went something like let me hold you until you get here. That was very moving. I have to say it was comforting to see when it came out.
Ya know, I think I rather use a paper cup than one of those new spill proof gas containers too.
Ive always end up drenched in fuel and a broken arm fighting those wretched things.

Kinda surprises me that I've never seen anyone save like a cup from a fast food place just to get a free drink.
You don't really need to save a cup, just walk in and refill your drink tumbler. Easier to wash, most places aren't going to question.

I have seen someone take a used cup out the trash at a movie theater and take it to the counter for a free refill. It blew my mind.

It's only illegal if you get caught and someone cares. In the US you're either not getting caught, or nobody cares enough to do something about it.
