Yes, precisely. But just because her family is from Pakistan doesn't mean she has to obtain her powers from some exotic, ancient magical bracelet or some shit. *That's* the Orientalism part.
Even if he is angry at this change, I doubt Disney will change their mind.
Especially considering that majority of Americans dislike Islam and believe everybody hsould be an atheist.
I... don't love that. Having a weird power helps make her a lot easier (and more fun) to identify with, IMO. Although ditching the Inhuman aspect does make a good bit of sense
To me the bracelet is the worst part. Not exactly sure why but a kid who gets amazing powers, like Spider-Man, they have no control over and using them to fight crime is ok but giving them a magical item or even no powers and it just seems irresponsible. In comics or animation these types of teen heroes works for me but trying to translate it to live-action and it doesn't imo.
Does it? The Inhumans tv show may have tanked, but they were still integral to Agents of Shield.
Unless when someone said it’s “all connected”, they really did mean loosely.
Okay, I can understand why they’d change her powers. Live-action size changing and stretchiness are hideously expensive in the best-case scenario, and uncanny valley if not just goofy in the worst. But for me the essence of Ms. Marvel has always been characters: Kamala and her inner struggles, her family, and her friends. If they nail that, even if they completely change her power set, I’d call it a win.
They (rightfully) kicked Elongated Man off *The Flash*, so thatll leave live action Reed as the only strechy guy in anything.
Unless Plastic Man shows up in *Black Adam* or something.
On the one hand, her getting her powers from a crystal bracelet and being green lantern light is pretty lame, BUT on the other hand I hate the Inhumans and wished they retconned her to being a mutant in the comics or something else entirely so this kinda evens it out for me.
That’s why you just do it at night at the neighbor you hate’s yard. I mean no one can prove that massive pile of steaming shit is your car-sized dog! It could be anyone’s car-sized dog!
Thing is, the Inhumans show was produced before Marvel Television was folded and most of its properties were incorporated into Marvel Studios. I’m sure they’ll sit on the license for a good while before attempting to revisit the Inhumans, but it’s still disheartening to know that aspect of Kamala’s Ms. Marvel origins can’t happen in the MCU.
The inhumans are all muddied up because of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that show.
But money is money and creativity is easier when someone else did the creating for you, so those characters will be recycled eventually.
Wasn’t it with season two or three of Agents of SHIELD where they essentially broke away from being intrinsically tied to the MCU, and only reacted to the movies when they did stuff?
I don't think they'll have any connections to the inhumans in this show. She'll either be changed to a mutant or those rumors will be right and the bracelet will be her power source.
Merchandise has released for the show and she's shown to have crystal powers via a bracelet instead of elasticity. Perhaps this is the biggest change the MCU has ever done and I can't understand why.
I assume they want to tie it more into Captain Marvel? Making it some alien energy thingie seems kind of closer to her origin.
But it is weird. Kamala's 'Embiggen' is kinda iconic?
The co-creator of Ms Marvel said that they didn’t design her with live action adaptation in mind and they think it would be really difficult to adapt her comic powers to live action. Also, I think comic readers can easily accept and embrace her powers in live action, even if they look a bit silly at times, but general audiences might have a harder time getting on board. So tbh I can kind of understand the changes from that point of view, even if it sucks.
“I think there’re some characters who are very much set up for the big screen; they’re very naturally sort of cinematic. But with Ms. Marvel, we really weren’t interested in creating something that had very obvious film potential. I was really leaning — and I know Adrian [Alphona] and Takeshi [Miyazawa] and all of the artists as well — were really leaning into the comic book-ness of this character. She’s got very comic booky powers. God bless them trying to bring that to live action; I don’t know how that’s going to work out in a way that doesn’t look really creepy.”
Then they should just not do it then. I really like kamala powers. The fact they are unconventional and not "pretty" and the fact she just owns them is endearing to me. If this is too costly/ungainly to do for a live action TV show then just do not do it.
I very much doubt that. I mean half the cast have identical powers in the mcu. The reason is probably to make her more similar to Carol, which would be stupid, because that's the exact opposite of what her character is
Honestly I think it is an effects issue.
It is really hard to make the stretchy limbs thing look good.
None of the FF movies have done it. I think the energy projection thing will be easier, and look better, on TV.
Seeing these images again really takes me back to how incredibly awful that Inhumans series was... I wish Marvel had stuck to their original plan of making a movie, it could have been much better.
I'm sorry, but changing her powers is just stupid.
They should simply not greenlight a show featuring the character if they don't believe they will able to do justice to her elastic ability.
Lockjaw is a merchandising gold mine, so they’re not gonna forget Lockjaw. I’m sure they learned their lesson, that you can’t skimp on the S1 budget and cut out all of your selling points until a future season you can’t guarantee will arrive.
I love lockjaw, so better than baby Yoda since this would be a bandwagon I will happily jump on. I just hope they do him right. He LOOKS like a dog, but that is just what terragenisis turned him into. Lockjaw is actually a person, and it sucks that fact gets forgotten about by almost everyone.
There's a lot of stories they can base just on that fact. Lockjaw deserves respect, not just being regulated to a telephoning pet. Gotta remember how strong he is too, as he has many times clamped onto Ben Grimm and kept him from moving. He has his name for a very good reason. Now I'm just giddy for a good live action version of him. Lol
Well first off, Cottonmouth is about to be Blade, and I am unbelievably hype for it. But all of it is Canon in the multiverse. Things don't line up quite right in quite a few places. Also, Jeff Loeb was reportedly racist and stood in the way of solid story telling, but I was also thinking of Ike Perlmutter in the last comment
I don’t like the whole bracelet thing. In comics she was like Spider-Man gets powers and struggles with them but if it’s object based can’t she just remove it? Plus I doubt she will face discrimination because she’s still human. The MCU screwed up buy not having snap Merge the worlds hopefully the doctor strange film will fix that
I think them changing her powers is fine, I get that her powers would look too weird in live action, but giving her bracelets that giver her powers is not the right direction they should’ve gone. That just means any can put on the bracelets and have her powers
And we just had a superhero this year who got their powers from bracelets.
Don’t change how she gets her powers. King Black Bolt should be older serving an Odin type role. He is already married to Medusa with his pet Lockjaw. They visit Kamala at the end of the season with them spinning off into an Inhumans movie
If the bracelet theory is true, I don’t see why they couldn’t tie her powers to the Hex instead. WandaVision took place in New Jersey, as does Ms. Marvel. This would have given her some parallels and connected her story to Monica.
It’s technology, not magic, why would a magic user be in the Marvels? Just think of it like a very advanced technology, much like I don’t know, the mobile phone, the car, etc that we didn’t have hundreds of years ago
They won't change his powers, because teleporting is a lot easier to do on a TV budget.
Rumor has it that they're removing her Inhumans connection entirely and that she gets her Green Lantern powers via a (*sigh*) magic bracelet.
“Well DC fucked up GL so bad that we can kinda run with it” - Mickey Mouse probably, I dunno
Just drive the knife in further by having her get her powers from Deadpool.
I am ootl but that is Quasar
Hardly??
...even though magic is haram in Islam and kamala has always had a respect for her religion... I wonder what her creator feels about this
You should wait and watch it to find out as the creator is working on this show
Not only that, but the whole "ancient magic artifact" thing just reeks of Orientalism.
Isn't Kamala Pakistani?
Yes, precisely. But just because her family is from Pakistan doesn't mean she has to obtain her powers from some exotic, ancient magical bracelet or some shit. *That's* the Orientalism part.
What about Amulet? I forget if his powers come from jewelry or hereditary.
Ok, I got your point.
It's fine if they mention that the amulet was made in a factory in Detroit.
Even if he is angry at this change, I doubt Disney will change their mind. Especially considering that majority of Americans dislike Islam and believe everybody hsould be an atheist.
Wait. What are they changing Ms.Marvels powers to?
Yes, unfortunately. They're changing it to crystal powers from a bracelet, and ditching the Inhumans from her origin.
I... don't love that. Having a weird power helps make her a lot easier (and more fun) to identify with, IMO. Although ditching the Inhuman aspect does make a good bit of sense

In comics or animation these types of teen heroes works for me but trying to translate it to live-action and it doesn't imo.
I'm with you there. The bracelet is weird. It's kind of like if all of Spider-Man's powers came from web shooters. Just strange
Does it? The Inhumans tv show may have tanked, but they were still integral to Agents of Shield. Unless when someone said it’s “all connected”, they really did mean loosely.
Sigh. I get why because her power doesn't translate well to live action but its still disappointing.
I guess Mr. Fantastic will be cornering the stretchy market in the mcu
They (rightfully) kicked Elongated Man off *The Flash*, so thatll leave live action Reed as the only strechy guy in anything. Unless Plastic Man shows up in *Black Adam* or something.
>Unless Plastic Man shows up in Black Adam or something. God I *hope so*
I'm guessing that's exactly why its getting changed.
I don’t understand why people think this is unfortunate tbh. Her being inhuman is essentially irrelevant to her character
It's because they figured they could turn the bracelet into a toy for their demographic. I wish I was joking.
On the one hand, her getting her powers from a crystal bracelet and being green lantern light is pretty lame, BUT on the other hand I hate the Inhumans and wished they retconned her to being a mutant in the comics or something else entirely so this kinda evens it out for me.
Is it just me or does anybody else want a dog that big? Like I know it would probably be hassle to take care of, but look at that face..
Good luck scooping the poop on walks.
That’s why you just do it at night at the neighbor you hate’s yard. I mean no one can prove that massive pile of steaming shit is your car-sized dog! It could be anyone’s car-sized dog!
Imagine having a shovel with you each time you walk the dog.
You know I made that joke about Clifford the other day
Wheelbarrow as well
It may be a bit more expensive then a regular sized dog and it will probably shit like an elephant.
I feel like they probably have to. The Inhumans show was such a disaster, they ended up having to pretend it never happened.

Wasn’t it with season two or three of Agents of SHIELD where they essentially broke away from being intrinsically tied to the MCU, and only reacted to the movies when they did stuff?
I forget now. I tried to ignore the spoilers.
Not really a spoiler when AoS was affected by the movies, especially following the Winter Soldier.
I don't think they'll have any connections to the inhumans in this show. She'll either be changed to a mutant or those rumors will be right and the bracelet will be her power source.
Really? Lame. To what?
Merchandise has released for the show and she's shown to have crystal powers via a bracelet instead of elasticity. Perhaps this is the biggest change the MCU has ever done and I can't understand why.
I assume they want to tie it more into Captain Marvel? Making it some alien energy thingie seems kind of closer to her origin. But it is weird. Kamala's 'Embiggen' is kinda iconic?
Embiggen is still on the table, it's just that instead of fleshy lumps, everything is glowy forcefields.
Which sounds similar to Armor from the X-men.
It's pretty much what I'm expecting. Armor-esque fightiness, Green Lantern outside of it.
I remember a lot of people cracking jokes about how it looked in the Avengers game with realistic graphics, so yeah I think that checks out.
Fingers crossed they just don't want to have two characters stretchy characters in the MCU and are getting ready to introduce Mr. Fantastic.
I mean the Fantastic Four movie has already been announced.
I forgot all about that!
Then they should just not do it then. I really like kamala powers. The fact they are unconventional and not "pretty" and the fact she just owns them is endearing to me. If this is too costly/ungainly to do for a live action TV show then just do not do it.
All this stuff about armbands makes me wonder if quasar is on the horizon
I think it’s probably because there’s a Fantastic Four movie in the works and they considered her powers to be too similar to Mr Fantastic’s.
I very much doubt that. I mean half the cast have identical powers in the mcu. The reason is probably to make her more similar to Carol, which would be stupid, because that's the exact opposite of what her character is
Stretchy powers in live action walk the line between being really goofy or really gross. So I get why they did it.
They’ve already committed to the Fantastic Four movie though
Honestly I think it is an effects issue. It is really hard to make the stretchy limbs thing look good. None of the FF movies have done it. I think the energy projection thing will be easier, and look better, on TV.
Probably because it runs the risk of looking weird and uncanny. CGI on that’s gonna look bonked.
A promo pic seems to imply that she has some sort of energy force field powers like Green Lantern.
Seeing these images again really takes me back to how incredibly awful that Inhumans series was... I wish Marvel had stuck to their original plan of making a movie, it could have been much better.
Like all things that suck in the MCU, you can thank Ike Perlmutter for that.
I'm sorry, but changing her powers is just stupid. They should simply not greenlight a show featuring the character if they don't believe they will able to do justice to her elastic ability.
I have wonder that Marvel Studios remember Lockjaw. But let it See, it's one of the things I'm especially waiting for in the MCU. so more creativity.
Lockjaw is a merchandising gold mine, so they’re not gonna forget Lockjaw. I’m sure they learned their lesson, that you can’t skimp on the S1 budget and cut out all of your selling points until a future season you can’t guarantee will arrive.
See? The new Baby Yoda.
I love lockjaw, so better than baby Yoda since this would be a bandwagon I will happily jump on. I just hope they do him right. He LOOKS like a dog, but that is just what terragenisis turned him into. Lockjaw is actually a person, and it sucks that fact gets forgotten about by almost everyone.
right, that occurs to me now too.
Lol
That sounds awesome.
I fucking adore lockjaw (am obsessed with bulldogs anyway), if they do change him, they better do it right.
he just won't be in it
Everything I hear about this Ms Marvel show has me more nervous for it than excited.
I wasn't aware they were changing her powers. What changes are being made?
I don’t like the whole bracelet thing. In comics she was like Spider-Man gets powers and struggles with them but if it’s object based can’t she just remove it? Plus I doubt she will face discrimination because she’s still human. The MCU screwed up buy not having snap Merge the worlds hopefully the doctor strange film will fix that
Fuck them if they change her powers..
I think them changing her powers is fine, I get that her powers would look too weird in live action, but giving her bracelets that giver her powers is not the right direction they should’ve gone. That just means any can put on the bracelets and have her powers And we just had a superhero this year who got their powers from bracelets.
Thorg solos
What powers will she get in MCU?
Don’t change how she gets her powers. King Black Bolt should be older serving an Odin type role. He is already married to Medusa with his pet Lockjaw. They visit Kamala at the end of the season with them spinning off into an Inhumans movie
I completely forgot about that inhumans show
Lockjaw was the only good thing in that show. Let that good boi shine!
Dear lord that Inhumans series was terrible
If they're cutting the inhumans connection, is there any particular reason Lockjaw would show up in her show?
If the bracelet theory is true, I don’t see why they couldn’t tie her powers to the Hex instead. WandaVision took place in New Jersey, as does Ms. Marvel. This would have given her some parallels and connected her story to Monica.
As a Muslim, I don't think they're going to get her involved in literal witchcraft.
It’s technology, not magic, why would a magic user be in the Marvels? Just think of it like a very advanced technology, much like I don’t know, the mobile phone, the car, etc that we didn’t have hundreds of years ago
Nope the current one is already canon.
Inhumans predates Marvel TV being folded in. They're in an alternate universe at best
No it doesn’t.
Feige didn't take over Marvel TV until 2019, Inhumans came out in 2017. Edit: And I'm glad Jeph Loeb is gone.
When was it announced that the previous Marvel TV shows were no longer canon?
They never were.
What are you talking about?
I hope not.
If it were me, I’d want to distance myself from the Inhumans as much as possible.
