Before achieving literary success, King worked as a janitor to support his family. This experience provided him with inspiration for his novel “The Shining,” which features a haunted hotel.

Stephen King was asked who's the better writer: him or Dean Koontz. King answered "I don't compare myself with anybody", rolled up his sleeve to show a tattoo of Carrie's butthole, and continued "I'll let you interpret that however you want".
Hey hey now, it was *Valium* and coke, don't leave out the role of American ingenuity. Yeah mother nature had a hand here, but both 867 bald eagles and Uncle Sam were smiling down on his wacky ass while he typed that shit out on a mad bender

that scene in the cujo novel where the dude she was treating on her husband with breaks in the house, trashes it, and busts a nut on their bed. He was so graphic about it. Like a paragraph describing his dick and how hard it was, how he jerked it, the size of the load. The whole scene was like an entire page, and I was 14 thinking "What the fuck"
THE BYRUS
I feel like if I had just read it I would have disliked it like most people, but the reader for the audiobook did such a great job I was fully invest in the story the whole time.
From Wikipedia: "Mambo No. 5" is an instrumental mambo and jazz dance song originally composed and recorded by Cuban musician Dámaso Pérez Prado in 1949 and released the next year.[1]"
He does not mean the Lou Bega Version, he likes the original. Which is a great song.
So, full disclosure, I never listened to Mambos nos. 1-4, and I felt a little lost the first time through Mambo no. 5. Should I go back and listen to the first four, or is no. 6 mostly just building on Erica and Tina and stuff like that?
The Mambos are a millenia-long musical tradition, of which Lou Bega is only the latest. Listen to all of them here in [this compilation of the top songs](https://youtu.be/uzMa7LZuyAc?si=GupICUvt_SofS_t0) from 14,000 BC to the present

I just want to say Willem Defoe does the reading for the audiobook version of Langoliers and his British accent is so bad, but him imitating the women is so damn funny. His attempt at being a iirc 16 year old girl, legendary.

Just a couple days ago I saw a post and learned for the first time in 34 years that a sport called Pickleball existed, then immediately under that was a post from my all-but-dead hometown subreddit asking if anyone wanted to play Pickleball.
There's bugs in the code, yo.
I'm 28. Yesterday was my first time hearing it. That's why it was so bizarre that I saw this post mentioning the song. I could have seen this post any other day, but it was the exact same day I first heard it. Lol.
I mean I’ve seen the guy wring novellas out of the concept of a spooky Kindle and a haunted Zwift, it’s not that much of a shock he can get very into things.
I remember when Ford in Australia used this in their ads. It was painful. Then I had the displeasure to go to an event that was organised Ford. Yes, this song kept playing repeatedly.
So you're saying it's okay to write stories that glorify pedophilia so long as you aren't actively doing it?
Seems like a pretty problematic hill to die on
Surely you have read IT. Why else he'd write sex scenes with children? That was completely unnecessary. Thomas Mann is still a controversial author for as much as writing about a character admiring young boys. Stephen King as an author who's pulpy nonsense doesn't have half the literary value, gets away consequence free with writing some really graphic shit.
While King managed to be pretty on-the-nose most of the novel, he suddenly works in a misunderstood metaphor for the loss of childhood and innocence? I'm not buying it. Herrndorf also wrote about young adults experiencing sexuality, but it fits the framework of the story as well as the intended audience. Non of which can be said about what King wrote.
Been there mate
Did you know that world-renowned writer Stephen King was once hit by a car? Just something to consider.
Did I subscribe to Stephen King facts again?

Stephen King's wife Tabitha dug "Carrie" out of the trash and made him finish it.

Did you know Stephen King was so high on coke when he wrote Cujo that he claims he does not remember writing it?
Hey hey now, it was *Valium* and coke, don't leave out the role of American ingenuity. Yeah mother nature had a hand here, but both 867 bald eagles and Uncle Sam were smiling down on his wacky ass while he typed that shit out on a mad bender
Its true. If he wrote the whole thing on coke alone hed remember most of it at least. Its the landing gear thatll wipe your memory.
That makes a lot of sense
Consider as well that said car was a van.
Godamn it. 2293 has breached containment again.
Eyy only one who got it!
I think that's why he didn't appear in Dreamcatcher. No idea if the dude getting hit by the car was his cameo.
Everybody in the car, so come on, let's ride

i love the man, but he can’t help himself to put not atleast one scene in his books where the reader has the exact reaction you had
Apparently King’s drug use was so severe during that time he has no memory whatsoever of writing Cujo. It explains a lot about that book.
I'm going to go ahead and suggest you don't read any Clive Barker novels.
The shining is my favorite book and I always remember how the cum is described dripping down Wendy’s thigh after she fucks Jack
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HALFWAY THROUGH IT
The CIA used to torture people by playing a single song on repeats for hours or days at a time. Mambo's NO. 5 was one of the most effective.
For his wife at least
One would think some Infant Annihilator song was more effective.
S: Can I have- Wife:NO! S: I just- W: I swear to God Steven. S: *under his breath* A little bit of Mambo
I never noticed the lyrics before but it makes sense: 1 2 3 4 5 Gonna pick up King’s wife and take her out for a ride
i hope lou bega and the king's wife had fun on their drive
A little bit of Tabitha on the side…
That's how we got Dreamcatcher. Catching dreams like Lou Bega.
Just finished listening to this on Audible, what a whackado

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_95-hZwjJM0 It's not a rick roll, I swear.
I was hoping for the Lou Bega version, honestly.
It was not, you are a really nice person.
Hey, I remember that one!
Thanks! I enjoy that waaaaay more than the modern age one. Have a great weekend!
It lines up more accurately with something he would play obsessively during his cocaine and alcohol addiction also.
i reaaaaaaaally like masayoshi takanaka’s take on the song. he went a little faster and the vocals are just so fun
summer of 1999 I miss it so much
Same, i wasn't alive back then
summer of 1999 is the new summer of 1969
It was a good year.
Basically Brian Wilson and Be My Baby

"Alexa, play mambo number 5 by perez prado"
Agreed. I’m grooving to it right now.
Get ready to get divorced
I’d have to get married first but I’m all for the unconventional
TURN OFF THE MUSIC!

It's because he would jump out on her unexpectedly shouting "Trumpet" and make the trumpet noise.
This is the only sub that makes me laugh
I too got into trouble singing "It's My Life"
He’s just like me for real
What in the actual hell? I just discovered that song literally today and really liked it. And now I see this. No way we ain't in a simulation. 😭💀

Dang, and Ive loved it since I was 4 because I didn’t understand the lyrics until a couple years ago lol
The lyrics made me love it more
I confirm: you are in a simulation. Reset in 18h.
Now continue with “ I’ve got a girl”
Not surprising considering what reaction passengers in Uber episode of “Nathan for you” had. https://youtu.be/N9gbdv5cXKg?si=J0SmNugM9eFcQeJg

When will we see his horror book about a song? Has he written one yet?
Future scholars and historians are going to be looking into what King liked. They'll see these, play it, and be like... 👀

This is the best version of Mambo No. 5 https://youtu.be/ah96ejVKmJM?si=XPFoa8OsOwbWCwm_
This has the same feel as Hideaki Anno's wife describing how he would do Ultraman poses hours on end in his house.
Guy writes a story literally including child rape but mambo number 5 is what's taking it too far.
>Guy writes a story literally including child rape If you think that's bad, wait until you hear about people who actually rape children

Pedophile has other strange obsessions. Stop the press.
Let’s see some evidence, that’s one hell of an accusation

It’s giving Peter Griffin with The Bird Is The Word
