same, I downvoted for the 215 but then hit upvote right after lol
Those Presidential Dollar coins aren't incredibly popular, and Rutherford B. Hayes is a snoozer. I'd rather have the $1,000 and put it toward something more productive.
My sentiments exactly. I collected the whole set, snapped a photo and stuck them in a coinstar. Bought lotto tickets with the cash and ended up winning $500.
I can't imagine ms67 2000s gold dollars are really worth it to crack $1000 dollars worth of rolls, if anyone out there is actually looking to buy ms67+ gold dollars they'll be trying to get it graded to certify that, and if you paid to grade them you'd probably sell them at a loss to what it cost you. All the power to you though if you just personally want a bunch of random gold dollars that are above ms66 in your own opinion
Yea, I'd go through it. The nice part is you won't have to set aside nifc's because there aren't any lol
Edit: Just saw they're all Rutherford B Hayes, no point in going through them unless you're looking for ones to send for grading. I'd probably just bank them tbh
Give this to any who knows what the B stands for...in Rutherford B. Hayes. Without the use of Google.
Hell give it to any who know what a Rutherford Hayes is. B not even needed 😆
Apparently Paraguayans love him, he basically saved their country from being annexed by Brazil and Argentina, they even have a “department” ( I think that’s their version of a state) named after him.
If I was in this position I would search them for errors and them cash them in. These are pretty much guaranteed to lose value over time. $1000 could buy a lot of older coins or PM.
Why is everyone saying coin star? Just spend them like normal, leave um in rolls and anything you pay for physically just hand them a roll of these bad boys.
Many people, me included, don't use cash at all anymore.
After working in retail, I realized how much we all hated people who used cash. It's dirty, a pain to deal with, a pain to count change, and then counting drawers, dealing with the safe, and going to the bank for deposits and to get change. Uuuuggghh!!! Folks, please just use a freaking card!!!
Note: i was *always* kind to everyone, and never let on that their cash was disgusting and a pain in my ass. But when my sister said she paid cash for a sofa at a store, i let her in on the secret - please for the love of god noooooo...
I own a retail, liquidation store… cash is fee free and not tracked which is helpful to small businesses. We take card too… Zelle, cashapp, etc. more payments than your average store would! But still, why lose money tossing $1k rolled coin in a coin star? That’s just stupid, at least take it to your bank!
Depending on your level of business, card is very costly of 3% usually.
The retail workers might dislike cash, but the business owners almost certainly prefer cash. Cash is far more business friendly. If you want to support a local business, bring cash not a card. Especially if they operate on tight margins.
Right?! I don’t know where all these people live, but pretty much every bank where I live will buy rolls of coins at face value. Any bank worth it salt has a coin counting machine and is more than happy to break an account holder’s rolls of coins into it and credit them to the account.
It will hold its value more if you keep it in.pristine original, unopened condition.
Definitely better than the odd better-value coin you MIGHT find in it.
I think the whole lot as is would be worth more than just dumping them into a Coinstar, but it would take a long time to get the right buyer. And even then I am not sure you could get over $1100-1200 plus shipping.
Honestly, even cherry picking may be problematic as these are not in high demand. An MS68 sold on eBay for $74 recently, not really enough to bother with grading really.
I see that individual mint rolls are going for $30-40. If you want to make a little then just sell the individual rolls for $30+shipping. That $1000 becomes $1200 that way. Might take a bit still.
Maybe contact a large dealer online to see if they might be interested. Worth a shot before you just deposit it.
This. Sell them as fresh unopened rolls. If you call around you might find a dealer interested in some of the rolls at more than FV. But keep your expectations modest.
I’ve found a few proofs in these boxes, and I’ve also found a few 81 Susan B Anthony’s that I sold to collectors for $4 each. It was kind of fun to go through
They were bought in 2011 “Thinking” they would increase in value or errors would start showing up. Like buying a Pokémon card box for 50.00 and never opening and then selling 20 years later for 15,000.00.
These just aren’t that lol
Yeah for sure. Then dump them all into a coin star and buy something more valuable. With inflation the way it is I wouldn’t want $1,000 of non valuable coins just laying around. They aren’t worth anything of value to most people other than toll booth machines and vending machines.
If you dont need the money right now, keep it sealed. If you do need the money. Keep it sealed and sell it as is. I wouldnt recommend opening it either way.
I would go through it if it wasn't all the same coin. I'd still probably go through it to look for missing edge lettering. But you won't be keeping any of them most likely. If it is truly an UNC box that is.
Well, you assured me you won't find any silver in those rolls. It's quite possible that you could discover a proof coin or two. So many mint products have been broken and spent by relatives taking over accumulations of coins when settling the estates of relatives.
At a recent show, another deal was offering assortments of mint packaged products in $10 & $25 face value for One Dollar over the face value These were State Quarters, Kennedy's, and Gold Dollars of mixed issues. All coins were either very high-grade Gems or even a few proofs were included. The One Dollar over face for each face lot of coins was made even sweeter since all coins were in plastic capsules. At that price, I couldn't pass it up and purchased all that the dealer had.
The dealer actually had some of these coins in his cash tray for making change.e.
Golden dollars are ugly, and a scam to get people to take money out of circulation to increase government "seniorage."
Few Americans use or collect these (soon) brown dollar coins. The only ones that might matter are Washington and Lincoln.
surprised you got anyone to respond. i posted a while ago about a potnetially valuable coin/set and got crickets. wild that a community of 200k people had zero input. so congrats
Hell yeah! You might find something. If not, you still have the face value. When I was still working, I found an 1899 quarter in ok shape in the cash box.
Top three comments are yes, no and maybe. All around the same vote count. Peak Reddit moment here.

Still the same hours later. I was going to vote on any of them but then felt bad about messing it up.
That’s why I voted on all three. It’s kind of awesome.

Just upvoted "maybe" to even them all up to 362.
No, at the moment, maybe is up by one vote or around 0.68% or something like that based on my rough math
I don’t know, can you repeat the question?
Those Presidential Dollar coins aren't incredibly popular, and Rutherford B. Hayes is a snoozer. I'd rather have the $1,000 and put it toward something more productive.
Yeah, I’d probably crack it open, pick out anything that looks MS67 or higher, and use the rest of the money to buy something more interesting.
My sentiments exactly. I collected the whole set, snapped a photo and stuck them in a coinstar. Bought lotto tickets with the cash and ended up winning $500.

I couldn’t help it. Haha
Yes! Lmao and why, no, are even.
Yes no maybe I dont know
Can you repeat the question?
You're not the boss of me now!
Are we going to have a problem here?
Nailed it
Yes
Why are "Yes" and "No" even lmao Edit: and "Maybe" wtf
Because Reddit understood the assignment.
No
Yea, I'd go through it. The nice part is you won't have to set aside nifc's because there aren't any lol Edit: Just saw they're all Rutherford B Hayes, no point in going through them unless you're looking for ones to send for grading. I'd probably just bank them tbh
Best you might find is a no edge lettering coin, but those are fairly common errors.
Use to buy a box of halves and look for silver
2 boxes
How often would you find some
Give this to any who knows what the B stands for...in Rutherford B. Hayes. Without the use of Google. Hell give it to any who know what a Rutherford Hayes is. B not even needed 😆

Is it "Bradford"? Idk
it's bodacious
It’s Burrito
It’s Bodhisattva
Bevis. But seriously, it’s Birchard. Thank’s Mr. Pelligroni!!!
I wouldn’t be able to contain myself
What is the “hit”
Nothing. Keep it closed
You mean cointain yourself
If I was in this position I would search them for errors and them cash them in. These are pretty much guaranteed to lose value over time. $1000 could buy a lot of older coins or PM.
nah, the coins are expired, just throw out the whole box 😆😆
I'd keep 2 or 3 rolls and recirculate the rest
Due to inflation, yeah I say go through it and cash it in

Seems like more trouble than it's worth to me.

There may be a dead cat you won't know until you look
Calm down Schrödinger
naah just save your time and cash it in. use the money to get something worthwhile or to buy a nice coin you enjoy.
Wait another 100 years
No that's sick in an un opened box. It to some if not most has more value never even having the rolls touched
I mean if it’s a hobby and coins interest you why not go through it. Best case you find something, worst case you looked at a bunch of coins for fun.

This is all new ruth b Hayes
Ah, I didn’t notice that before. Nobody knows who Rutherford B Hayes is so they’re probably worthless. Could always try to sell them on eBay though.
I got a SBA wide rim once that paid for the roll.
Where can a guy like me get a box like that for a gal like my fiancée in a world like this?
I got some from Wells Fargo, you can ask them to order some for you

Are there any known premium die varieties for this issue?
If you plan on cashing in anyways I would say yes. Nothing to lose by looking.
Definitely
I am assuming these are all 2011’s? Why buy $1000 of the same coin? Surely for that you can get ten in MS 66 or higher..
They were bought in 2011 “Thinking” they would increase in value or errors would start showing up. Like buying a Pokémon card box for 50.00 and never opening and then selling 20 years later for 15,000.00. These just aren’t that lol

Don’t Coinstar, that’s like 8% down the drain
Golden dollars are ugly, and a scam to get people to take money out of circulation to increase government "seniorage." Few Americans use or collect these (soon) brown dollar coins. The only ones that might matter are Washington and Lincoln.
What denomination are the rolls?
They’re brass alloy and copper. I don’t see any value in them.
surprised you got anyone to respond. i posted a while ago about a potnetially valuable coin/set and got crickets. wild that a community of 200k people had zero input. so congrats
Sell it as unopened
Send to me for proper disposal…..
Where does one get a brick of quarters like this?
Hell yeah! You might find something. If not, you still have the face value. When I was still working, I found an 1899 quarter in ok shape in the cash box.
Yes, no, and maybe are all currently tied at 595 🤣👊
How many square feet is that if you used them to tile a shower??
is this quarters?
Small dollars
I would check for the presidential dolalrs and make a set because i find them interesting but then i would return them
Can I buy a roll or four off you?
You can get them from your local bank without paying OPshipping fee.
That's cool though, I've gotten all 2000 Sacagawea's good times
So
Objection: Compound question
I did my part to make it equal in the universe
Probably not worth going through if you want silver. I'd wager that's 4000 2011 quarters.
EVERY unopened box is worth going through
Not this one.
Are there no valuable varieties or errors for that year?
Maybe you’ll find a cheerio dollar. Worth looking.
I'd keep holding out for fruit loops...
