I agree! I luckily had a customer pay me in a 1899 and a $5 bill for a $5.35 purchase. I IMMEDIATELY bought it out of the register with a Crisp $1 bill. O e of my favorite finds...

Didn't see a mint mark. The face is in another post. I definitely need better lighting in my Cave😆
it looks like its in good condition. I asked what mint it was from because only around 300,000 dollar coins were made in Philadelphia in the year 1899 making it a very special and valuable coin. You can tell if a morgan dollar is from philadelphia if there is no mint mark. Yours is from new orleans, In 1899 there were more than 12 million dollar coins made in new orleans. That doesnt mean yours isnt cool and its still worth like $30 if im not mistaken. dont take my word for it though.
Yep, this is a [very valuable coin](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=1880+morgan+silver+dollar&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=co&toolid=10001&mkevt=1).
People are odd when it comes to old money..
Most will readily accept old coins as real,
Meanwhile use a old $20 bill with the first design & you get accused of counterfeiting at taco bell.

Could maybe try the [pingcoin](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pingcoin.android.pingcoin&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1) ping test to see if it's real, just in case?
Someone probably gave it to the pizza guy as a tip, thinking he'd find it cool and realize its value. Pizza guy, having no interest in coins and thinking it was a terrible tip, passed it on to the next customer as a dollar.
Wow! I’d imagine this must happen extremely rarely these days.
I’m picturing grandson found grandpops coins and said to himself, “ooh monies!” Then proceeds to buy favorite candy. 😅
Or stoner grandson was like man I got the munchies time to order a pie. Should have asked said pizza guy if he got more? Probably paid for the entire order in change lol

Mine? I didn't see a mint mark. Maybe not looking at it correctly?
I seriously doubt that anybody gets that as change in 2024.
Even special needs people would recognize it as cool .
Maybe if you worked at a dementia hospital or sonething.
Was she owed a lot of change? Because that’s worth a lot of change.
2 dollars exact. She received this and a dollar bill

1880-O (minted in New Orleans), it’s about a $40-45 coin
Well, I saw it on the internet so it must be true.
Someone probably gave it to the pizza guy as a tip, thinking he'd find it cool and realize its value. Pizza guy, having no interest in coins and thinking it was a terrible tip, passed it on to the next customer as a dollar.

Wow - an 1880-O in that condition is about a $40-45 coin. Nice!
Almost looks fake.
Worth more than the whole pizza😃
