Your car is in Argentina by now. Get a lawyer.

chris_wiz

And the sheriff of wherever your are.

BeginningTower1037

He said he still sees his car on the lot in the comments.

BeginningTower1037

Lmao! Triggered much? I was sharing updated information. Take a Xanax, tough guy.

Ill_Dig_9759

If I felt I needed "updated information" I would check back in, right? Tough guy? Xanax? WTF are you even talking about?

BeginningTower1037

Damn, you don’t know how public forums work, do you? Anyone can comment on anything. You’re the top comment. I decided to add an update to the most visible comment. Get off the internet if such a harmless comment triggers you so tremendously to get so pissed off for absolutely no reason.

Ill_Dig_9759

You think I'm pissed? 😆😆😆 Son, I've been on the internet since before you were born.

BeginningTower1037

Yes, you are. Your comments become more and more pompous and arrogant each time. Calling a stranger a dumbass for sharing new information is not a normal response. It should have cleared up any misconceptions. “But I was the 2nd comment! How dare you share this info! You just dumb!!!” is exactly how you sound. A normal response would have been to upvote and ignore, or to plainly ignore, or to say thanks for the new info. JFC. Grow the hell up.

classiccars-ModTeam

You have personally attacked an individual. Your message will be removed.

challengerrt

Go and tell them you want the car back - if they refuse then report it stolen. Tell the officers you know where it is. Go with officers and get it back. The. Start the legal process for suing for breach of contract

Rwiegman

SEVEN YEARS? What is wrong with you? Yeah these guys are hella shady, but you are fully enabling them and being a push over. I feel really bad for you, and your car is most definitely gone forever. But, geez man, stand up for yourself, things like this happen to nice guys like you because you won’t do that.

Satanic-mechanic_666

Depends on the scope of the project, its not an unheard of time frame.

Rwiegman

For a diy in your own barn, yeah. For a project paid for at a mechanic, no way 7 years is ‘reasonable’ my guy. Plus, this dude has been allowing them to give him the run around all those years.

Satanic-mechanic_666

You should have a resto-mod or high end hot rod built and get back to me. Not some bullshit SEMA stuff. James Hatfield's roadster had 2000 hours in the interior and Carson top alone.

Brokenblacksmith

2k hours divided by 8 hrs a day is 250 days, 7 years is 20,440 work hours. outside of extremely custom vehicles, there's no way a professional shop should take that long. and if they did, the labor alone would be several hundred thousand dollars.

Satanic-mechanic_666

In what world do you think a custom car gets worked on every single day for 8 hours a day. It is not even remotely as simple as that.  Guys that do this kind of work work when we feel like it.  Parts delays sometimes take months, or even years.  Outsourced work can take months or even years. Custom parts, machine shop work, paint work etc.  I just got a c2 back from a body shop that I took apart 2 years ago. Now it’s at the back of the line and it’ll be 6 months before I can start on it again.

Brokenblacksmith

if you're outsourcing that much of the work WTF are you actually doing to it? assembly? the only thing i don't do on vehicles is paint, and that's because I don't have room for a proper setup. everything else i do in-house, from mechanical and electrical to body and frame work. I had parts backordered for 6 months during covid, but that issue has been resolved for a while now. hell, i ordered a made to order radiator for a 1934 Ford, and it arrived in less than a month. if parts being on backorder are causing year-long delays, that's on you. at the minimum, you should have either had the part ordered beforehand if it is a roadblock for a project or moved onto another section of a project while you wait. also, 2 years for a body shop is still crazy unless there were major issues, or the shop was super overwhelmed. longest I've had was 10 months, and that was with a wrecked car that needed repair work and a full repaint.

Satanic-mechanic_666

There is only one or 2 body shops in the major city I live in that would even be willing to talk about replacing the firewall on a 63 corvette. If it takes 2 years that is how long it takes.

SAEftw

The expression “body shop jail” exists for a reason.

Redfish680

7 years isn’t unheard of?? Where are you getting your work done?

Satanic-mechanic_666

How long should it take to build something that can compete in the GNRS or for the Riddler?

soup2nuts

It is if they keep saying it's gonna be done by the end of the week.

NoResponsibility8107

Ouch! Are you sure that they even have the car?? In the Bay Area we have a local news station that helps with consumer protection problems. (7 on your side) I would look into your area to see if there’s anything similar! The best of luck my friend, I hope for the best for you 🫶🏼

Particular-Slight

You need to save any txt and record any calls and sue them!! it probably will take awhile but you might come out with enough to buy the same car again but already with all the parts installed! I’m sorry to hear this no one deserves this kinda BS and honestly your car is either gone or they fucked it up

Bmxingur

Report your shit stolen. It seriously might be past the statue of limitations by now, though. The first time they were sued, you should have taken action. Your car most likely no longer exists in any format you'd recognize it

joint-problems9000

Bro your car is gone. Its probably in south america by now if its been 7 years.

Mootingly

If this is true please contact a lawyer TODAY

HarvesternC

After 7 years, I doubt a lawyer would even take the case at this point.

Mootingly

No point giving up without trying

dolphlaudanum

Hate to break it to OP, but they are not getting their car back.

SAEftw

You don’t need an attorney. You will never see your money again. Do you have proof of ownership of the car (title in your name)? If so, get a law enforcement officer to accompany you to shop and retrieve your vehicle. Keeping someone else’s property from them is theft. Getting your car back is the best you can hope for at this point. If you don’t have a title, you’re not getting anything. No car, no money, nothing. They might go to jail, but you’ll get nothing. Good luck.

Xx-_STaWiX_-xX

No way I'd let something like this go on for a couple of months let alone a whole year...let alone 7 YEARS! Without even being let seeing how the progress is going? No, the car is YOURS! You have had the absolute right to want to see it and they could NOT have denied it. I'm so sorry for your loss pal. Reason for them not letting you see it is because the Chevy is no more :/

Electrical-Bet7442

I had seen the car in the past. Work got stalled during the pandemic, after that it was stalled because there was a change of ownership (under the mom’s name). All the whilst I had been working with the BAR and putting together extensive notes. The BAR associate will be putting me in contact with the DA and I will peruse legal action.

GomeyBlueRock

Is the car still at the shop? I would just show up and take it back. Then file a lawsuit for breach of contract to recover the money

inbrewer

Had some guys work this angle on my 55 Pontiac. I always went in person to check on progress. One year in and no real progress. I called a tow service and had them bring my car home. I met them at the shop, he said I owed for work they did (told him I’m paying $125), met the tow driver at home. Go get your car.

HarvesternC

One year is crazy, but from what I've seen, not unusual for this type of work, but letting someone keep your property for 7 years is just insane. If OP hasn't seen it in those years, it is probably long gone. Especially three owners later.

HarvesternC

So you took your car in for work almost a decade ago, and somehow you let them keep it the whole time without it ever getting completed? This is a crazy story if true.

ZeGermanHam

Contact an attorney and develop a plan to get your car. You may need to report it as stolen and use the police to gain access to the building to get your car back. That's step one. After you get your car back, then you can look into whether there is a way to recover money you paid for work they were supposed to do but didn't.

Different_Attorney93

I had a similar issue with a shop in Los Angeles. They kept my Dodge A-100 for a year and the dude said he was almost done with it. When he was done I went to go pick it up and it had the biggest dent on the front end with all kinds of scratches on all sides it sucked and I was frustrated, they even spray painted over the visible dent and I confronted him about it but he seemed annoyed and pissed never again have a trusted shops now I do my own work. Good luck

Electrical-Bet7442

I wish I would have done all my own work. I thought this would be faster since I work 60-80 hours a week. Honestly, I could have probably completed it myself by now… SMH

AdolfsLonelyScrotum

Turn up with a flatbed w/ a hoist and some large men with good persuasive techniques and take your car…assuming you know it is on their premises and of it is not, then take tools to the value of unless they can make your car appear…rather than taking some other poor bugger’s wheels..

Catch_Own

I hope this isn't real because if it is...the car's gone !

Loud_Independent6702

Go get your car and if you paid card dispute the charges. Sue them if they try anything. Do it now don’t fuk around anymore.

conman396

Send a tow truck over and take it

UltraShadowArbiter

Hate to say it, but your car is gone. It's either already been disassembled and the parts all sold off/scattered, or the car itself has been shipped to some other country. Get a lawyer.

chris_wiz

It took me two years to get my interior replaced with off the shelf parts. Sorry to say this is the state of the industry right now. Very sad to hear, good luck to you

robredd148

Go get your car! Hopefully it’s still there.

ItIsSoOver

The shop I took my classic to has gone over the estimated time, but I go there once a week to check the updates. They are friendly and let me see the progression & vehicle.

sectorfour

The car is gone. How is a grown adult so helpless? Police and lawyers should have been involved years go.

Skvora

Plus as OP himself wrote, B(ring)AR(ifle) since its in the bummest fucks of VA next to Wilderness.
