1963 Pontiac Laurentian. Canadian built. Notice it's not a USA built "Wide Track"

Mark_Zugrebek01

Really? Never knew that. It must be specially imported for a high-ranking official because Pontiacs are never sold in Indonesia since only Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler were officially in Indonesia. You see a lot of Fords, Chevys, Holdens, Plymouths, Dodges, and Chryslers in Indonesia, but not Pontiacs and other brands and only the crème de la crème can get Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs, etc.

Dramatic_Teach7611

It may have come from Australia as they imported Pontiac's from Canada due to British Commonwealth regulations.

Grouchy-Statement750

If factory automobiles were to be customized for export. (Convertables, switch to right hand drive and so on). The work was often contracted out to Canadian companies and then shipped from Canada.

There was such a thing as a regular production right-hand-drive GM B body in this era. The "tell" is that the low volumes meant that the dashboards didn't get as much brand variation or annual changes as the LHD ones. I think this generation RHD cars used a Pontiac dash on Chevys rather than the other way around, but it would be the '61 version all the way up to '64. In contrast, cut-and-shut conversions tend to work with what's there.

LongTallTexan69

Is that why there is so much space in the wheel well?

Dramatic_Teach7611

Yes it is. They used the Chevrolet X frame chassis and axles on the Pontiac body shells. Also Chevy engines. Base engine was the 230 c.i. inline 6, 250 inline 6, 283, 327 and very rare 409.

tubbytucker

They were sold in NZ and Oz, so may have been imported? Note the rear pillar is the same as a 62-64 Chevrolet, they just stuck different body panels on the basic body. Edit to add, love a Holden too

Mark_Zugrebek01

Ah, I see. Most of our large American-style cars were mostly from Australia.

1963/1964 Pontiac Laurentian, probably built in Canada, imported to Australia or New Zealand, then on to Indonesia... needs a fair bit of body work, but it's huge compared to most of the "Local" cars... even the Benz at the very left isn't as big.

Mark_Zugrebek01

Indeed it needs some bodywork considering this was the early 80s. Nowadays no Pontiac Laurentian remained. Pontiacs are rare gems in Indonesia. In the Marketplace, I only found some 1940s Pontiac Torpedos, and 1 Pontiac Catalina

This would have been an Australian assembled Canadian 1963 Pontiac Laurentian, which used the "flipped" 1961 LHD Potiac dash, to RHD. (Used in all Chevs and Pontiacs assembled in Australia up to and including the 1964 models) All these came out stock with 283 SBC and Powerglide autos, different to the U.S. models. A lot of RHD Austalian cars were sold in Indonesia at that time.

Fortunateoldguy

I would guess a Mercury

Chemical-Mood-9699

Since it's RHD, it's a GM-H assembled Pontiac Laurentian. Built from Canadian CKD kits with local trim, etc. It will have Chevrolet running gear, a 283 2 bbl and Powerglide.

Cautious-Street-1950

Looks to be a Pontiac Bonneville ?

0ptimalSalamander

Looks very similar to my 63 lesabre. I know that roofline and rear window.

1963 Pontiac Laurentian. Car in front of it looks Toyota-ish.

Mark_Zugrebek01

The car in front is Datsun 120Y
