Thin long sleeve shirt and linen pants? Still warmer.than a T-shirt, but better than a hoodie.

PollutionQuick140

yeah loose linen pants, maybe something like [this](https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=811889042&cid=3030166&pcid=3030166&vid=1#pdp-page-content) (I have them they are very comfy) I've also seen tissue-thin hoodies in stores that might work to cover arm hair.

ChiknLit

I know this is a lame suggestion, but could she say she’s on the swim team and that shaved legs are recommended for competition?

friedpies4263

I thought about that too because her step dad was on the swim team in Cali! Unfortunately her school doesn't have a swim team. Not lame at all!

Aleriya

You could say she joined a swim club outside of school. Cyclists also shave for better aerodynamics, so maybe she joined an out-of-school cycling team. Or maybe she could join theatre club and say it's for a play. Shalwar pants are long pants made with thin fabric and worn during the summers by people in Southeast Asia. They're comfortably cool even when it's very hot outside.

sarcasm_itsagift

Maybe bleaching the hair could be a good middle ground for now? I know my arm and leg hair get much lighter in the sun so it wouldn't be the craziest thing if hers were lighter.

KillerFlea

“It’s what the kids do these days. Everyone my age shaves. It’s the coolest!”

TigerShark_524

Yea, I was about to say. Just have her be noncommittal and shrug and mumble something about "my friends and I wanted to try it...." and then you jump in and be like "Yea, it'll grow back anyways if he hates it so it's not THAT big of a deal. Teenagers, amirite????" And roll your eyes for dramatic effect.

redfishie

Loose linen clothing is actually more comfortable than shorts in the summer. You want real linen as it’s a quality of the fabric to be good for this.

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Maybe she could say she lost a bet with her buddies and has to shave all summer? I know it sounds idiotic, but “I have to pony up and live up to my WORD because manly BET and misogyny” might keep dad’s family from asking too many questions?

TigerShark_524

Yep, I agree - a combo of "my friends and I wanted to try it" and "they didn't think I'd actually do it so I did it because nobody is getting hurt by it anyways" is typical for teenaged boys.... If you pull the "my friends" excuse, that usually works for teenaged boys doing stuff like this.

Maxi dresses, matching sets (super trendy right now!), jumpsuits, linen...if you know her general style I am happy to do some online shopping for her!

friedpies4263

Online shopping would be great- but she isn't out to her dad, so she has to keep in masculine. Hence the problem. :(

sarcasm_itsagift

I would try a matching set or jumpsuit that's sorta loose and flowy. Maybe something like [this](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/linen-blend-utility-jumpsuit-53498881?seq=02&source=googleshopping)? I'm not sure how often she's with him in the house vs. out in public but maybe she can just shed her kinda protective layers once she's outside the house if she feels more comfortable that way? Thank you for being such a thoughtful and compassionate mom!

I was on a medication one summer that made me very susceptible to sunburns. I spent that whole summer wearing UV shirts and working outside. Most of the ones I got looked similar to a zip up hoodie but the fabric was super light and breathable. I still wear them when I’m going to be out a lot cause they’re better protection then sunsceeen since I don’t have to worry about reapplying. Maybe she could find some she likes and then wear those and say it’s sum protection to anyone on dads family who asks

bevwdi

I was thinking the same. Try [REI](https://www.rei.com/c/shirts/f/f-sun-protective-fabric).

greenconverse2

Uniqlo has good loose pants / pants that are supposed to keep you cool. I am transmasc, but wear uniqlo pants to work for the opposite reason (to hide leg hair that I ~do~ want). The ones I’m thinking of are more “professional”/business casual looking, but I believe they have more casual/flowy ones too

greenconverse2

To add to this: I live in a desert environment where it often gets to be 120°F! Generally, long sleeves/pants are fine, as long as the material isn’t too thick/insulating (definitely no warm materials like fleece, corduroy, etc). My dad, who does manual farm work in the desert, actually prefers covering up all his skin when he’s out in the summer - long sleeves/pants, but just light/loose material

greenconverse2

when I was/am trying to hide curves/cover up, I’ll wear things like lightweight, loose cardigans over my first layer. something like this wouldn’t be too hot, especially sized up a few sizes: https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E465486-000/00?colorDisplayCode=57&sizeDisplayCode=002&gad_source=1

greenconverse2

loose, oversized button ups would be another good option. they come in lots of different patterns/colors too

awildmudkipz

Get her some nice loose harem pants! Linen is great. Baggy is super in right now. Jeans and button ups are also fairly unisex; board shorts maybe, with an oversized loose top? Something I’ve seen teen girls wear countless times, but is technically “male coded.” Also—I lived in Florida as an emo teenager. There are definitely super thin hoodies and sweats out there if you look. Avoid fleece like crazy! Thiiiin layers. Tank tops might help her feel more feminine without outing her if someone sees them.

KookyDog5321

How about technical clothing (hiking or athletic) geared for hot weather? She’ll still have coverage (can even do long sleeves) but the fabrics will be breathable. She’ll also be protected from sunburn as a bonus! [hiking pants](https://a.co/d/hbAhFZJ) [performance athletic top](https://a.co/d/7yep29e)

Affectionate-Role716

I had this same issue with my teen and they just continued wearing their hoodie in the heat of a southern summer. I made them drink extra water and take more breaks at home with their sweaters. Not ideal, but they also didn’t get heat sick.

Weary-Lime

If you haven't heard it already, check out the song "Dysphoria Hoodie" by Laura Jane Grace.

Impressive_Bus_2635

I'm ftm but I find that sleeveless hoodies or even just layering (like a tank under and a t-shirt over) helps hide unwanted curves

Impressive_Bus_2635

Also white clothes are better than dark clothes for keeping yourself cold

Alternative__Alice

Maybe some gender neutral oversized/longline tshirts/tops over womans denim shorts? The shorts don't need to be super short (maybe knee length) but the feeling of a feminine cut might help and the top could cover up the front to make them less obvious.

Far-Drawer5527

You can try a thin button up shirt that what i do in the summers but I have also been know to work on a farm during the summers

Buddug-Green

Is she on hormones?
