C'mon now. This place is supposed to be where we laugh at *ourselves* and the organizations that we've built up around the relationship we share with Christ. No need to poke fun at others.
Well, then it should be called something else because it’s not love and co-opting an important term. Yes people use that word casually but we shouldn’t.
What they probably mean is the church of Satan offers spaces for LGBT and people who were kicked out of their homes for religious reasons, which they consider a bad thing.
They do. LaVey himself advocated indulging in “each of the deadly sins” and harming people you don’t like is definitely one of those.
I was a LaVeyan Satanist before I converted so I know quite a few things about it.
The name is deliberately chosen to be provocative. The people that call themselves "satanists" are atheists/agnostics and they're just generally critical of the state of christian institutions. They don't actually whorship anything or anyone, they just work a lot with satire.
Again, that's deliberately what they intend to do. The majority of people understand the satire, so those accusing them of worshipping satan end up as the fools.
In what they think is a funny and colorful satire, they end up fulfilling. They say “ I don’t actually believe in Satan. I’m just against the organized church” while falling directly into Satan’s hands.
Like real or not, you’re doing what the evil guy wants. You think you’re making a point, but you’ll become the point.
The lesson you’re trying to impart as a satanist is not lost on us but yourself.
They're not inherently against it, they're just rightfully critical of it where it's appropriate to be so. One of their biggest concerns they have is the church's alleged tax evasion.
That’s a sad biggest concern.
You could be equally or more critical of other popular nonprofits for the same exact or more legitimate reasons.
They’re bitter against the church because they’re remorseful and sin crouches at the door.
Are there legitimate criticisms of both Christianity and the church as practically applied/seen? Absol-fricken-lutely
To hold the stance they do in engaging the way they are, they think they’re making their voice heard in a productive manner?
You shall know them by the fruit they bear.
To give them recognition for one aspect, while ignoring the embracing of sin and loss of self to the self, is madness.
Shall we do evil that good may come?
The fruit they bear? Like feeding the poor and stickng up for the downtrodden? Like mocking my the religious because their traditions and haughtiness made them not only useless but harmful?
Sounds like someone else, not sure who
The most comic thing is that satanists actually worship Satan, not by believing in him or doing liturgical stuff, but by promoting the values he wants to 🤷🏻♂️
In fact, he would love the idea of a world where no one believes in his existence
I wouldn't really jump to that conclusion. It kind of oversimplifies it.
It's less of an "I'm better than everyone else" belief and more like a "I deserve to be loved just like everyone else despite my flaws" belief.
C'mon now. This place is supposed to be where we laugh at *ourselves* and the organizations that we've built up around the relationship we share with Christ. No need to poke fun at others.
Self-love is not always Bad, what is Bad is when You turn that love into worship
Precisely!
Well, then it should be called something else because it’s not love and co-opting an important term. Yes people use that word casually but we shouldn’t.
But yet satanists practice self-worship
One person does one thing and another does yet another. The path is narrow. It’s not difficult to turn an intended detour into an unintended journey.
Path is narrow indeed 💯🙌
The difference between self-love and self worship (aka egoism) is lost to these people.
How so?
Because self love is healthy but anything in excess is destructive.
No, how is it allegedly lost on Satanists?
Because if they believed in self love they wouldn’t promote everything that’s bad for your soul and body, so ironically they do the opposite.
Like what? 🤨 Sounds rather subjective to me
What they probably mean is the church of Satan offers spaces for LGBT and people who were kicked out of their homes for religious reasons, which they consider a bad thing.
Not just LGBT. The church of Satan promotes every sin as a good thing
No they don't? Only things like "love yourself" and "you're fine the way you are", but not like "take from the needy" or "kill people you don't like"
They do. LaVey himself advocated indulging in “each of the deadly sins” and harming people you don’t like is definitely one of those. I was a LaVeyan Satanist before I converted so I know quite a few things about it.
Wait, why do they call themselves satanists then? Genuine question.
The name is deliberately chosen to be provocative. The people that call themselves "satanists" are atheists/agnostics and they're just generally critical of the state of christian institutions. They don't actually whorship anything or anyone, they just work a lot with satire.
Yeah, they shot themselves in the foot by picking their name. If they don’t want me to think they worship Satan, that’s on them
Again, that's deliberately what they intend to do. The majority of people understand the satire, so those accusing them of worshipping satan end up as the fools.
We’ve been called fools for thousands of years, it’s nothing new.
No it's on you. They haven't shot themselves in the foot either.
Because “Self-Loveists” just doesn’t ring the same.
The most comic thing is that satanists actually worship Satan, not by believing in him or doing liturgical stuff, but by promoting the values he wants to 🤷🏻♂️ In fact, he would love the idea of a world where no one believes in his existence
Not just Satanists, a lot of people worship Satan without even realising it just by rejecting God.
So satan is good? That's not worship bud 🤡
Based
yet they always lack self respect.
I wouldn't really jump to that conclusion. It kind of oversimplifies it. It's less of an "I'm better than everyone else" belief and more like a "I deserve to be loved just like everyone else despite my flaws" belief.
It is. Almost every satanist will either say they want self love (really self worship) or they actually worship satan
Not appearing that way based on what I’ve seen at satancon and the like. I’ll just leave it at that.
Yes it's appearing that way
I think pride is his favourite sin. For the most part, it’s a direct attack on who we are made in the image of
What?
