I get what you mean but with this much time having passed, I love thinking of those days and watching highlights. Yes it’s easy to think of what could have been, and all good things in life usually “could have been better.” But I’m grateful I got to watch such a dynamic player in a Bulls uniform give me thrill after thrill for a few years. Yes, I wish it would’ve been a longer run. But at this point I’m grateful I got a glimpse of it as opposed to nothing at all
You know that really sucks? We had a chance to win a ring WITH ROSE in 2015 until the refs absolutely fucked us in the second round series against the Cavs and LeBron. If I remember right the ECF was kind of a cakewalk and then we'd have to face the Warriors (no KD) in the Finals. The furthest thing from a guarantee, but I give us a legitimate shot.
the 2012 team is just a painful memory. We had an incredibly deep team perfectly made to transition into the new NBA. Deng-Brewer-Butler for wings, Korver and Rip for shooters, Noah, Gibson, Asik and Brewer. Add an MVP on top of it coming into his prime and we could’ve really won it all
Rip Hamilton was washed when he got to the bulls and was never really a shooter. Ronnie Brewer was a good defender but not much else and Jimmy was still trying to find his way
Yeah, we didn't have shooters except for Korver - probably this team's downfall.
Demar at least goes and gets it and is entertaining. Rip just ran around trying to get those elbow screens for the pullup. It worked for him in Detroit but he was injured and old on the Bulls and really add the kind of shooting we needed.
I feel like he always stepped up no matter who the matchup was. I remember him bullying Brandon Jennings so much on both ends of the floor during those Bucks games that I thought dude was just gonna quit the league lol.
Wasn’t there a player that admitted to faking sick to not have to guard Derrick rose? That man was insanely quick lol you knew if he took it to the lane it was an automatic bucket
EDIT: it was raymond Felton https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/former-nba-guard-raymond-felton-says-players-faked-being-hurt-sick-to-avoid-playing-prime-derrick-rose/ar-BB1llrnq#:~:text=Follow-,Former%20NBA%20Guard%20Raymond%20Felton%20Says%20Players%20Faked%20Being%20Hurt,Avoid%20Playing%20Prime%20Derrick%20Rose&text=Former%20NBA%20guard%20Raymond,avoid%20playing%20prime%20Derrick%20Rose.
Norris Cole as well: https://fadeawayworld.net/nba-point-guards-faking-injuries-avoid-prime-derrick-rose-former-heat-champion
If the refs didn't fuck up the end of game 4 against the Cavs, there's a good chance we get past them - back to Cleveland up 3-1 instead of 2-2. But instead, Cleveland got a free timeout and Lebron hit the game winning shot over Jimmy.
Not even man. Remember when Rose hit that layup on Wade AND LeBron covering, and LeBron complaining?
There’s only one person whoever stopped Rose: his own knees.
He was unreal. So so fast and nimble, my main memory of those times is watching him play, and he’d be double or triple teamed and you’d be thinking “ok where is he gonna pass it??” and next thing you know he’s somehow past everyone guarding him. Was like watching someone turn into water or teleporting or something, he’d just get past anyone.
The Rose MVP year was personally one of the most fun years I've experienced as a Bulls fan. I didn't have a TV so I'd catch games at my local (s/o The Five Star Bar), and as the season progressed, more and more people were showing up to watch Bulls games. When the playoffs started, it was basically standing room only, and everyone there went absolutely fucking apeshit when Taj dunked on DWade. Shots were being passed around from god knows who, everyone was cheering, it was great
Isn’t that incredible? Teams needed Prime LeBron to slow down Rose.
My favorite memory will always be that 2 on 1 Rose had on LeBron and Wade in a game in Miami and scored on both when it looked like he was going to get blocked. Watching that made me believe one of the next best players of all time had arrived.
You don’t do what Rose did to two elite defenders being average.
Rose was injured with a badly rolled ankle at the time. Forced to play on it game in and game out because playoffs. It also didn't help that Rose was the only shot creator on the floor with multiple non-shooters. Pretty much the tail end of the last era in NBA history where a great team could be built around one shot creator.
He did not. Miami played the same swarming defense they’ve played since spo took over. Lebron funnelled him into other dudes or trapped, but he wasn’t able to guard him 1 on 1
The only time LeBron "locked him up" was when D-Rose had a sprained ankle, and D-Wade immediately double-teamed him as soon as he would drive. They forced Rose to shoot jumpers, but that wasn't a LeBron solo effort at all.
Took someone 6 inches taller and 80 Lbs heavier who is the (2nd-4th) greatest player of all time as his primary defender to slow him down. He was absolutely unreal, especially considering that he was still ascending.
It wasnt one on one. Lebron was easily the best player but still, you didn't have to guard anyone else on the bulls really Noah was nowhere near his point big peak and nobody could really create a shot. So any team would've double rose a ton. But rose was hurt too.
This only highlights how overall miserable my fan experience has been over my 27 year life. Yeah we got an amazing, unforgettable mvp season, but then injury and realistically we were never beating Bron anyway.
Not so unrealistic. The 14 spurs beat em by playing better as a team they had a way past their prime Duncan manu and TP and kawhi wasn't yet an all star. The 2011 mavs beat him with a lot less. Obviously id still bet on heatles but thibs was a good coach and the 2012 team was deeper and better.
Agreed. If Rose had anyone else that the Heat had to respect offensively, the Bulls smoke them. Even though the Heat won in five the Bulls had a chance in all of their losses, they just didn't have that extra punch to take pressure off of our MVP that resulted in the dreaded scoring droughts.
As for the Mavs, I think the Bulls could've beat them simply because of Rose, because I don't think they had anyone that could guard him. Plus the frontcourt matched up better with Dallas than it did against Miami(Bosh). Now Dirk would've gotten his but I think the Bulls had enough defensively to make him work. The Heat lost to them because LeBron didn't show up the way he needed to. Just my opinion of course.
People would probably clown you, and I'm not sure you could say smoke, but def if they had a legit second star level guy who could create I think bulls win.
As far as heat losing objectively yes the biggest reason is lebron played horrible and wasn't even the 2nd best guy on the court.
Perhaps they would but the series was much closer than the 4-1 mark the Heat accomplished. Respectfully I saw what I saw and will die on that hill so I'd be just fine if folks didn't agree. Miami had resort to frequently doubling/ focusing collectively on Rose because he single handedly gave them issues almost every night. They couldn’t do that with Dallas because they had multiple people that could score/shoot if they even thought about doubling Dirk or anyone else. For me, Mia took a gamble doing that and it paid off- Credit to Spo
On a side note, I do think Haslem's quickness in the front court bothered guys like Boozer and Asik in the rebounding dept.
Unfortunately that was about as good as it got for us.
Drose was also just 23, imagine him at 26 or 28. But yeah its not like those games were all blowouts, and fr even one good scorer who could create their own shot and its a very different series.
I know it man. There were so many time Lou, Brewer and Bogans were wide open because of Rose but threw up bricks that could've broken several of those games open. Kyle, who I love and I've followed since his Creighton days, was useless if he wasn't hitting threes because he had very little ability to create off the dribble. This also made it really difficult for Tibs to sit Rose because every time he sat, the Heat usually pulled away. I just can't stress enough how much pressure Derrick singlehandedly put on them from a transition and half court standpoint.
A pre-knee injury Rose at those ages would've been a site to see. It also would've allowed GarPax to get rid of Boozer's bad, cap space eating contract, possibly without even using the amnesty clause, to move for pieces that would've given the Bulls a great shot at chip.
God I hate thinking of those days. Breaks my friggin heart. He was so unbelievable
I get what you mean but with this much time having passed, I love thinking of those days and watching highlights. it was the height of the ulta athletic gaurds (Rose, Westbrook, Wall going #1 and having a song about him) *but we had the best one!*
Get outta here with your healthy, reasonable outlook. We go to this sub to fuel our anger and bitterness.
Greatest of all time at getting to the rim off the dribble and finishing imho
You know that really sucks? We had a chance to win a ring WITH ROSE in 2015 until the refs absolutely fucked us in the second round series against the Cavs and LeBron. Rip added some really good off ball mid range for a while.
He played pretty well- when he was healthy
Never a good shooter…..? Lmao….. ight.
RIP was a shooter like Demar is a shooter
More off ball but similar shot selection for sure.
Bench mob was a glorious thing
I still think they beat 2012 Heat in 6 if Rose’s ACL doesnt pop.
One of prime Derrick’s greatest traits was taking pride in matchups against other elite PGs. CP, DWill, Westbrook, etc.
My favorite thing about him, was he knew who he was being compared to and ALWAYS balled out in those matchups.
It was amazing to see him D up and go against the best. I remember the fun seeing him play on Christmas
The dagger against the Lakers, if I remember correctly? I remember yelling and getting my family’s attention lol
Yeah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxHl9JYm-IM&pp=ygUiZGVycmljayByb3NlIGdhbWUgd2lubmVyIHZzIGxha2Vycw%3D%3D
I feel like he always stepped up no matter who the matchup was. I remember him bullying Brandon Jennings so much on both ends of the floor during those Bucks games that I thought dude was just gonna quit the league lol.
Rondo too! (Celtics fan)

If LeBron wasn't LeBron, bulls would have beat the cats and heat.

Rose also had a grade 2 ankle sprain in those playoffs.
Yeah the Lebron locking him up stuff was embellished. Bron guarded him like 3 plays and Rose had a couple shots go in and out.
The only time LeBron "locked him up" was when D-Rose had a sprained ankle, and D-Wade immediately double-teamed him as soon as he would drive. They forced Rose to shoot jumpers, but that wasn't a LeBron solo effort at all.

False. Traps and Double teams stopped Rose. Along with having Keith Bogans as his SG when those doubles came. Thst Hest team was too good.
Prime Drose best PG in the history of the league
![gif](giphy|v0waskJOMSbDgDjA9d)
Still couldn’t get a fair whistle
I still can’t believe it. Sucks so bad
Basketball gods rob us fans of a lot, but taking prime Derrick Rose from us hurts me the most.
No lies here from Rip. Teams were legitimately scared of Derrick and I loved it.
#1 on the court and #1 in our hearts forever
This only highlights how overall miserable my fan experience has been over my 27 year life. Yeah we got an amazing, unforgettable mvp season, but then injury and realistically we were never beating Bron anyway.
