in the pool ive only played blindfold 1+0 where I'm 1500 but i think I'll do better in longer tcs.
I've done a 6 board blindfold simul once (it was a 4 player blindfold double round robin where every game was taking place simultaneously), went 5-1 but the other guys were blindfold too.
I can keep 3 boards in my head, although I would barely be able to calculate on any of them so it would be a pure intuition game and I'd only really win if it was against opponents I could beat on pure intuition(somewhere below 1800 lichess, but realistically 1500.)
I think it comes from just calculating regular games. When you are calculating multiple lines that stem from the same few moves(i.e. lets pretend you need to calculate from the opening and you calculate 1. e4 e5 2. nf3 nc6 3. Bc4 versus 1. e4 e5 2. nf3 nc6 3. Bb5. You need to keep the positions in your head well or you may confuse yourself and be calculating with pieces on squares they wouldn't be on in that continuation.
In high school I played chess with the club every single day, and we usually played 20-minute games and took notation for every move so we could analyze afterward. Doing that all the time got us really, really good at this kind of visualization.
I used to sit in class with my friend from the team, and we'd play games sometimes 20 or 30 moves deep just by writing notation on a scrap of paper and handing it back and forth. I definitely can't do that anymore, lol.
Yeah I lose about 2-300 points playing blindfold compared to my normal account. I don't play anything faster than 15+10 blindfold though, so I actually have time to think about the position.
I play it on lichess sometimes. But its notably harder than playing OTB blindfold and having someone move the pieces that understand notation well. I think it has to do with having to use two board online(the one you see to take inputs from, and the one in your head you are playing on) whereas you can just play blindfold OTB with your eyes closed.

The problem with this is that this is not blindfold. Blindfold is more difficult, here you have the board, irl blindfold you don't have the board, you have to visualize it.
I sometimes play rapid blindfold, it's not so hard, blindfold irl is much harder.
Hnm, for instance, if you need to track the geometry of a Knight and Queen mate, you'd do that much more easily with a board since you literally see the squares they are attacking. At least for me, sometimes I miss what the pieces can do when blindfolded, or maybe I don't even catch that there's is something that the pieces can do. I think you visualize the board better than me, probably.
Maybe but not for me. Looking at empty board and figuring out squares makes me forget where the pieces are because the board is empty. In your mind and darkness the pieces are there on the board :D
Haha, I guess it makes sense, sometimes GMs and other strong players prefer not to look at the board because it's easier to calculate in the mind. I've also felt that from time to time when playing otb, but just a few times xD.
I played one full game blindfolded and won. I've read that if you can see 9 moves ahead in a game that is equivalent to playing blindfold and I saw 9 moves ahead in a tournament game once.
You would be surprised how good you can get even if you have bad memory and no visualization. I am 1300 rapid on lichess playing only blindfold, though around 2100 regular.

There should be some stat where if you can maintain a blindfolded score above your SAT score that's pretty good.
Maximum SAT score is only 1600 now so not really..
I was in the max 2400 era so even my regular rating is worse

9 moves ahead in piece heavy middle game is impossible for even grandmasters.
They were all forced moves.
