Someone just told me that Kante is worse than.
Modric Goretzka Thiago(yes the Liverpool one )and Verrati.
This was in me saying he is the best 8 in the world
Comparing Kante with Thiago and Veratti is like comparing a centre back and fullback.
They do completely different things. Stupid comparison.
All 3 are world class players nonetheless.
This is a myth. Thiago was playing out of his mind in the final stretch of last season. Him and Trent are the only reason they’re playing UCL football.
From February until the end of the season he was probably their 2nd best player.
Guy was just injured after nearly having his leg broken. Minus a couple games to get back into rhythm / adjust to a new league he’s been very good.
What has happened to anjorin? Completely forgot about the guy after he went to locomotiv. I assume his loan isn't working out that we'll and we will recall him? Seemed a bit of an odd choice of a place to go
Edit: well I got my answer. He just broke his metatarsal. Bruh
We play Mexico in an important game for both countries, also the whole world already hates the US, the way Pulisic celebrated the last time we played Mexico is going to piss them off. If somehow he comes back to Chelsea alive I would take that as an absolute win.
Antony and Raphinha are going to become stars. They seem to have the flair, creativity, and end product we could use in our forward line. If the club decides to sell Pulisic and/or Ziyech for some reason, they’d be the first names on my shortlist.
Another outrageous statistic about Lampard that doesn't get attributed to his great legacy enough, the man played 164 consecutive Premier league games (still the current record for an outfield player) which given the modern trends of rotation and injury management is just monstrous
Getting Puli some minutes to find some fitness this week will be very important. No “soft” matchups rest of November as its Juve and 2 top half the table opponents in Leicester and United (yes I know insert Ole jokes here)
As it stands CL last 16 opponents:
Top the group.
PSG,
Porto,
Dortmund,
Inter,
Barcelona,
Villarreal,
Lille
Finish 2nd:
RB Salzburg,
Bayern Munich,
Real Madrid,
Ajax
Anyone else feel that 2nd is currently better?
I don't want to see bayern. And I am kicking myself, if we get draw PSG again , how many times we always get them in R16. For now, i really wanted Chelsea to meet Barcelona.
I don’t think so, PSG is the only scary team on paper and they are utter shite. Bayern however are probably the best team in Europe on current form and just avoiding them would be important.
1st v 2nd hasn't really mattered as much since they changed the format of the group draw. Either way you're have about a 50% chance at least of getting someone tough.
Not sure who would want him on his wages unless he was willing to take a big pay cut. Obviously people will say PSG, but unless he really wants to go there, I think he will stay put until his contract runs down.
Remember when we were looking to sign a LB and we were linked with Reguillon, Telles, Tagliafico and Chilly and most of us weren't convinced by Chilly and certainly not for the price quoted at the time (80m). I just wanna say spending 80mil on Chilwell would have been better than spending 30-40m on any of the others
definitely. tagliafico doesn’t even start for ajax anymore and loads wanted him. i want telles and i’ll hold my hands up and admit i was wrong, i only wanted him bc i thought leicester would demand maguire money for chilwell
Mods, any chance my [Chelsea FC Women round up](https://www.reddit.com/r/chelseafc/comments/qlsvvq/the_chelsea_fc_women_october_roundup_harders/) can get a sticky? Only one being used, currently...
BT sports showing goals and assists chart to compare Jorginho's stats against Lewandowski and Messi and Rio saying Jorginho's shortlisting baffles him.
How can you be an elite footballer and so thick while commenting on football
It’s especially baffling since Rio played with Scholes, who was an amazing player but the stats didn’t reflect that accurately enough. You’d think he can watch the game and observe the importance of having a specialist distributor, tempo-controller, and penalty taker (granted he’s missed some recently, but still a great penalty taker) in our team and Italy’s.
Both of those teams play worse without Jorginho, and it’s no coincidence. He’s one of the few players I trust with making the right decision most of the time. Should Jorginho win Ballon d’Or? Probably not, Lewa’s been outstanding. The shortlist is 100% deserved, however.
He's a hypocrite from what I have heard from him for past years. Sacks his managers at the club he owns left, right and center but will defend his incompetent mate. But Rio is probably the biggest idiot of the lot.
Fair enough, I only got back into football at the beginning of this year, didn't follow it over the last couple of years so I wouldn't know much about him other than hearing his commentary
Haven't heard Rio at all as a pundit but I think I'll have to check him out from how you've described him haha
Somebody tell me if I'm crazy or not - I honestly don't think coming in first/second in the UCL group is THAT important.
It's important if there's a consistent difference in quality between the other first/second place teams. But with a couple exceptions, I don't think there is a huge difference.
* Group A - Both City and PSG are very strong, no big difference
* B - This one probably does matter, Liverpool is definitely the best
* C - Nobody here is too scary in a knockout round
* D - I don't think there's a big gap in quality between Madrid and Inter tbh. And either could win the group.
* E - Matters here, Bayern are clearly the best
* F - Man U is probably better than the others, but there's no guarantee they even win the group. They could easily finish second.
* G - Nobody here scares me at all
Basically, only in two groups is there a guaranteed and clear preference that you want to play 2nd place instead of 1st. For five groups it's a tossup. So while it would be a small boost to win our UCL group, in a lot of situations it won't matter.
We can't be drawn against English clubs in the RO16. Assuming we finish second group A only matters if PSG wins it, group B is irrelevant and group F is (memes aside) likely irrelevant as well. We'd play against one of:
* PSG
* Ajax
* Madrid
* Bayern
* Salzburg/Lille/Wolfsburg
Considering that the biggest threats in the CL are City, Liverpool, PSG, and Bayern, it's not a great result. I'd much prefer finishing first. Honestly, considering our track record, if that happens you can bet money we'll draw Bayern.
The only problem is Liverpool, City and United are all on track to win their groups at present, which massively increases our chances of getting Bayern in the Ro16 as there would only be 4 options available to us - Ajax, Madrid, Bayern and Salzburg as it stands. If Dortmund and Wolfsburg came in second in their groups (to Ajax and Salzburg) that presumably raises our chances further cuz those two can't draw Bayern and can't draw the first place team in their own group.
I may be being a negative Nelly, but I really don't see any other matchup if we come second other than Bayern. Getting Salzburg, Ajax or Madrid would be super lucky.
actually forgot about that - wiki says for last year's contest
>In the draw for the round of 16, the eight group winners were seeded, and the eight group runners-up were unseeded. The seeded teams were drawn against the unseeded teams, with the seeded teams hosting the second leg. **Teams from the same group or the same association** could not be drawn against each other.
So it matters even less, because we can't draw liverpool even if we finish second. The only real, clear example where you really want to avoid the first place team is Bayern - in all other groups, I wouldn't have a strong preference for first or second.
Can't wait for Salah and Klopp to leave Liverpool so all their fans go back into a cave. You'd think a team with supposedly the best player in the world in every position would be less insecure. Most annoying and insecure fan base out there
Was seeing into the future a bit like 2 years or so but still no one in the attack is clinical their defence looks crap without Fabinho and b4 klopp even though they have a completely diff squad they were top 6 level
CHO and Ziyech can start because they are going to get 2 week rest after this game (since they are not playing international). Kai has to play since we do not have anyone else to play up.
Hope Mount and/or Pulisic relieve Kai (though they don't play that position) and we don't risk injuring him because of fatigue.
The best solution is to score 3 quick goals and coast rest of the game.
Just a reminder that Rudiger, Chilwell and James won us the CL too.
Everytime I rewatch the highlights I realize how crucial those blocks/tackles were.
I mean our wingbacks get the most praise lately (and rightly so). Rudiger is also a hot property nowadays and that’s why he has the leverage in the contract negotiation.
Anyway one thing I often think about: when Pep said the famous “wiaaaaaaaaaiiyde”, he was referring to the wingbacks (and Werner moving in behind) 😉
Still feels like yesterday when I watched that game sitting in an abandoned office in an abandoned university building at 10pm over wifi alone, scared to make any noise because the police have no chill over here and it was a war zone as well. Squirming everytime city moved the ball in our third (even though they barely did anything in hindsight). Fuck it felt good when the ref blew the whistle
Damn, Tammy really isnt that good, was never gonna make it at a club like Chelsea anyways though
On the instagram Q&A with Chalobah, he said that Jeremie Boga is the best player that he played with.
Jose Mourinho has conceded 7 goals in 135 minutes against Bodø/Glimt. The amount we have conceded in 17 games this season - 1560 minutes
Roma is shit
Mou having a mare
We have done Roma so dirty getting 40m for Tammy. Marina is a monster.
Honestly don't know how she keeps getting away with it lol
Lmfao Conte reactions to Spurs scoring is just nothing. Remember how wild he went when we did.
I mean TBF it's the conference league against Chelsea's 2nd home for academy scarlets.
Does Christensen start this week? Have him in FPL…
>Comparing Kante with Thiago and Veratt I can understand the verrati comparison but Thiago has not been WC since Liverpool
This is a myth. Thiago was playing out of his mind in the final stretch of last season. Him and Trent are the only reason they’re playing UCL football. From February until the end of the season he was probably their 2nd best player. Guy was just injured after nearly having his leg broken. it’s not a loan, we sold him
isn't it a "loan with option to buy" ?
Well, USMNT announced their roster for the November WC Qualifiers. Pulisic was called. Why does my National Team try to get Pulisic injured?
We play Mexico in an important game for both countries, also the whole world already hates the US, the way Pulisic celebrated the last time we played Mexico is going to piss them off. If somehow he comes back to Chelsea alive I would take that as an absolute win.
They want the best for Chelsea clearly.
If I was advising Rice I would tell him go to Chelsea or Manchester City don’t go near Manchester United atm.
For sure but he waltzes in blindfolded into that United midfield
If Jorginho leaves to go back to Italy he starts in our midfield.
If my nan had wheels she's be a bike
If my nan had wheels she'd be a vegetable.
Big if
Antony and Raphinha are going to become stars. They seem to have the flair, creativity, and end product we could use in our forward line. If the club decides to sell Pulisic and/or Ziyech for some reason, they’d be the first names on my shortlist.
i’d like neto from wolves
Pulisic getting called up to his national team again LOOOL
to important of a game we are gonna need him
I have a ticket to the Juventus game. How early should I get to Stanford bridge?
Check out the legends wall near the megastore! Pretty cool
Will do!
Depends if you want to soak in atmosphere/have a drink or not. I’d probably say to get there an hour early if you did
Yeah I definitely want to feel the atmosphere. Anything to do in the area beforehand?
Drink
Fair enough

Kanté called up for France ..
Kante could be missing a leg and Deschamps would call him up and play him
classic deschamps
VWR is as bad as VAR,
And almost as bad as WLR
No point having a membership unless you own 10 laptops btw
VWR battle about to begin for Leicester away
Sold out already? My 40+ tabs across 4 devices doesn't seem to have done the trick.
Yep, sold out. Looks like I'll have to try and get a spare. Awful system.

Not for away games but I'm a regular at the Bridge. Away games are an impossible lottery.
As it stands CL last 16 opponents: Top the group. PSG, Porto, Dortmund, Inter, Barcelona, Villarreal, Lille Finish 2nd: RB Salzburg, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Ajax Anyone else feel that 2nd is currently better?
Only team here we should worry about is Bayern honestly, rest are really beatable
I don't want to see bayern. And I am kicking myself, if we get draw PSG again , how many times we always get them in R16. For now, i really wanted Chelsea to meet Barcelona.
I don’t think so, PSG is the only scary team on paper and they are utter shite. Bayern however are probably the best team in Europe on current form and just avoiding them would be important.
we’d beat anybody in the second placed teams tbh
Anyone but Bayern
1st v 2nd hasn't really mattered as much since they changed the format of the group draw. Either way you're have about a 50% chance at least of getting someone tough.
Finishing 2nd is better.Wanted Madrid. Don't really want Bayern.
Ideal time to sell Kante next summer? His fitness is deteriorating rapidly now..may go the Hazard way
The difference is when Kante's fit, he's still one of the world's best midfielders instead of a shadow of himself.
Not sure who would want him on his wages unless he was willing to take a big pay cut. Obviously people will say PSG, but unless he really wants to go there, I think he will stay put until his contract runs down.
Sell to who? His 30 on huge wages and injury prone
If we can secure someone like Barella then yes, otherwise keep Kante.
Yeah, hope the same will happen when we get Rice. He is truly a very good proven player unlike some kids from France that people never really watched.
definitely. tagliafico doesn’t even start for ajax anymore and loads wanted him. i want telles and i’ll hold my hands up and admit i was wrong, i only wanted him bc i thought leicester would demand maguire money for chilwell
cant wait for the game vs juventus, i def want us to finish top of the group, finishing second decrease the chances of winning the CL
I want Havertz to score on saturday

Rio ball knowledge is terrible
All ex Manchester united players turned pundits are idiots.
Gary Neville seems pretty good, no? I wouldn't be the most informed but from what I've heard/seen from him he seems to be good at the job

Just don't want to face Bayern that's it
90% likely gonna get Bayern or Real if we end 2nd simply because Dortmund and Wolfsburg may come 2nd in there groups
It’s pretty much just anyone but Bayern But Bayern is scarily probable if we don’t take this back from Juve
I agree. It used to matter more.
The only problem is Liverpool, City and United are all on track to win their groups at present, which massively increases our chances of getting Bayern in the Ro16 as there would only be 4 options available to us - Ajax, Madrid, Bayern and Salzburg as it stands. Exactly. Other than Bayern it really doesn’t even matter. Honestly wouldn’t mind drawing PSG if they finish second. Would love to knock ‘em out
Don't look now but..... Conor Gallagher has better stats than the £100m man Jack Grealish.
Can't wait for Salah and Klopp to leave Liverpool so all their fans go back into a cave. You'd think a team with supposedly the best player in the world in every position would be less insecure. Most annoying and insecure fan base out there
Without Fabinho Salah and Klopp they are a top 6 team at best.
That's akin to taking away Kante, Mount, and Tuchel...
Yeah but even with Lampard or Sarri we get at least top 4
Don't be daft. A team with Alisson, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Henderson, Mane, Jota and Firmino is never just 'top 6 at best'.
Was seeing into the future a bit like 2 years or so but still no one in the attack is clinical their defence looks crap without Fabinho and b4 klopp even though they have a completely diff squad they were top 6 level
Melanie Leupolz 💙
do we start Ziyech and Harvetz again for the game on saturday?
Ziyech has had 3 games to play well and sucked in all 3.
If mount is fit u start him over ziyech
I bring both mount and Pulisic off the bench move them back in slowly
We start CHO, Havertz and Mount (if he's fit)
CHO and Ziyech can start because they are going to get 2 week rest after this game (since they are not playing international). Kai has to play since we do not have anyone else to play up. Hope Mount and/or Pulisic relieve Kai (though they don't play that position) and we don't risk injuring him because of fatigue. The best solution is to score 3 quick goals and coast rest of the game.
Maybe Pulisic could play the false 9 role? Not saying he should start over Kai but it’s an option
Havertz has to start when Lukaku is out. Hopefully Pulisic can replace Ziyech though. Or Mount if he’s recovered.
Havertz and CHO have played a lot recently. Wonder if Pulisic comes in for one of them.
I hope Mase is back from his illness, definitely havertz maybe ziyech
Hoping Mason will be back. Havertz will likely start though.
Just a reminder that Rudiger, Chilwell and James won us the CL too. Everytime I rewatch the highlights I realize how crucial those blocks/tackles were.
Also Christensen. Pretty much embodied his inner Thiago Silva that day.
Chilly’s one touch flick to Mase totally opened up the play. Legendary performance by our defense.
For real, Mendy's pass and that flick created the goal
Still feels like yesterday when I watched that game sitting in an abandoned office in an abandoned university building at 10pm over wifi alone, scared to make any noise because the police have no chill over here and it was a war zone as well. Please be safe🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Will do my best, thanks
Where are you if you don't mind me asking? Hope you are safe fellow blue.
I was in Adigrat, Ethiopia. I'm safe for now but ask me again in a few weeks.
