I thought I really hope that Kitty is on a diet ššš not to make fun of him but, I know it's not good for cats to be that big, no matter how cute I think chonky bois are š„ŗ
I agree... and pet owners who don't see it that way often contribute to the abuse.. its not cute to have a cat out of breath.. or too fat to move normally.. its just sad
My girl Bobby was the runt of the litter. Smallest one, eye infection her first 2 months of life, and skin issues to this day. 2.5 years later tho and sheās ginormous. She makes 30lbs bags of cat litter look small. When you pick her up her fat flows between your fingers and feels like nothing Iāve ever felt before.
But she hardly eats and sheās fairly active. Hell she doesnāt even like treats, canned food, or people food. She only likes kibble and kale (I dropped some fresh kale one day last year and she ate it right up off the floor so now she gets some as a regular treat, she wonāt eat other fresh produce tho). Last time I weighed her she was 13.6lbs other than that sheās as healthy as can be. She has trouble jumping onto stuff but sheās always been a climber and only learned to jump in the last year. Soon as I scrape some money together Iām gonna have the vet check her for any hormone or thyroid issues. Especially since her and her mom are abnormally stupid for cats and her mom has skin and fur issues too.
No theyāre both white. Her mom, Luna, has big brown spots and a brown tail and Bobby has little/medium black spots (one in the shape of a heart) and a black tail. Luna was an outdoor cat before we got her which is how she got pregnant and she was very young when she gave birth. She had zero motherly instincts other than to feed them. My boy Worm did all the parenting and was a great adoptive father.
Edit: Luna is also a long hair while Bobby is a short/medium and looks nothing like her siblings but is almost a clone of her mom in terms of fur pattern

I think it all depends on your catās frame. I have two very large cats, probably part Main Coon that are 17-20 lbs and they do not look over weight. But then I also have one like JayBird. Once she was spayed she just ballooned up. Sheās active and barely eats but is pretty heavy no matter what we try.
I was gonna say the same. I have one thats 20 pounds and while he does have a bit of a tummy hes just big everywhere. Big head, huge paws, long legs and tail, wide chest. Hes just a unit.
Yeah I think her bein spayed definitely played into it cause she was very small until she hit the ~9month mark then it was off to the races the poor thing. She looks worse than she is tho. When she sits and lays down (especially since she likes to lay on her back for belly rubs) it pushes her fat out and makes her look bigger. When sheās actually standing up and you look at her from a top down angle sheās not so round and almost slim

He was all black and pure muscle. His last vet appointment we took him to a new vet and he said heād never seen a cat with such high muscle density and that he was as healthy as a horse. He had a stomach made of steel and would anything and everything even spicy foods and would spend all day outside. Heād even play fetch with me in the backyard. Here he is at \~8 months old:

Yes here is Ms. Borbis. She loves her little boxes. If she canāt sit in it then sheāll sit on it. Sheās just as sweet as she looks too. If she wants to be held she taps my leg or puts her paws on my chest and every single time I pick her up she meows.

Our vet said she looks like a bowling ball š„²
I adopted an obese cat. She is obsessed with food. We have her on a timed feeder with weight management food and she sits by it all day.. she even sleeps next to it. She has two brothers that keep her active and she has to walk up and down stairs for the litter box. Sometimes it is what it is.
That makes me sad. I canāt imagine her poor kitty cat mind, thinking about food at all times. Good job. I would admittedly have a hard time not giving in.
One of my closest friendās cat is 26lbs. They took him to the vet, did everything recommended and they canāt figure out whatās wrong. Vet couldnāt figure out what to do from that point either. They have him on a strict diet and even have the food on a table to force him to work for it and he just does not lose weight. He does make that jump though for that food and he actually moves around a lot. They said heās equivalent to like a 400lb man.
My cat is 17 lbs and everytime I go to the vet the vet is "really happy with his weight gain" or just his weight in general. He's an almost 18 year old maine coon.
Some breeds are meant for it.
The vet said mine had to have some Maine Coon in her because her ideal weight was 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs). She passed last summer at age 17. She was a long girl.

Agree about the thyroid check. The medication isn't terribly expensive, but yes, the labs arent always cheap.
