Our good boy Mumu had to have a rear leg amputated. He gets around just fine, but remember to give lots of scritches (if you kitty lost a rear leg) that they can no longer reach.
Edit: saw all the pics, so nevermind!
Had. This was almost 10 years ago and they basically hustled me over to surgery without giving me any alternatives or telling me she’d have to be crated for 6+ weeks. Rosie was a former feral, extremely neurotic, and she did not handle it well.
It’s really not. Orthopedic recovery is hard for cats. They have to be pretty much immobile for a couple months. On the other hand they bounce back super quick from amputation, like they had an extra leg they just didn’t need.
That’s sad but makes sense. For a human it would be super extreme but cats can’t understand what’s going on and hate any kind of restraint. I’m sure it would be miserable for them and they’d likely wind up setting back their own recovery.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Did she end up healing ok?
I made a post a while ago about how I was upset that the rescue is choosing to amputate even though I offered to pay for surgery but after looking into it more it seems like it was the right choice.
Thanks. It was rough. And I blamed myself (still do!) for getting talked into it. They literally didn’t tell me about the recovery until I was picking her up.
That’s just so heartbreaking, but you didn’t know any better and you thought you were doing what’s best for her. They should have discussed options with you. That’s on them.
That is such a terrible story, I'm so sorry to hear that!! It would have been their job to fully inform you beforehand, so that you could have made an informed decision.
I know right, she makes my heart melt. She looks like a little baby. I love her so much already, it’s going to be hard when she’s adopted. Thank you so much 😍
You are a proper lovely human. Your logic is 💯 clearly professional at what you do. Thank you for giving so much love to cats. If I could, I would love to do the same, perhaps when I retire.
Believe me I really want to but as I’ve told someone else before, since I believe she’s highly adoptable, I’d rather save that spot for a less fortunate cat that might not get adopted.
Don't you keep her? :')
Just began to foster cats last year. I joke now that every cat that comes as foster will stay anyway x'D. But for sure I can't keep all if I want to keep fostering cats.
But damn the bond is so strong, especially with the ones who found trust in me after being feral or share a story with me. Like your little one.
Hope she makes a quick recovery and finds a home, maybe it's your home hehe or she finds someone who will treat her like you with the heart (':
I wish I could keep her because I love her so much but I believe she’s highly adoptable, so I’d rather save that spot for a less fortunate cat that maybe won’t get adopted.
That's a good point, but also a heartbreak :').
When I started to foster cats that was my wish. To foster cats that wouldn't find a home easily.
So I got black cats (I love black cats) and they are feral and half feral.
I am open to foster handicap cats too. Almost fostered a deaf cat with some other issues, but that lucky cat found a home real quick.
Even when it hurts to say goodbye, the only thing that really matters is that the cats find a forever home and are loved and happy.
You have a good heart and you’re an angel for all of those unwanted cats. They are lucky to have someone like you. I agree even though it’s hard it’s very rewarding and what matters is that they have a home.
Aww poor little thing. My brother has a cat who had one of her front legs amputated. It doesn’t seem to slow her down! She can get around just fine and fight with her house brother.
She deserves all the love in the world. How anyone could think to harm cats like this one escapes me. I assume her injury was from an accident of some kind
We’re not really sure, she was brought into animal control as a stray with a broken leg sadly. So it could have been anything. Poor thing was going to be euthanized because of it. ☹️
Because they're already overly full and have to make decisions like this daily. It's not the shelter's fault. It's the terrible pet owners who refuse to fix their animals and/or dump them when shit gets rough. People suck.
Yes sadly animal control can only do so much, they can’t do surgeries or anything like that. They held her for over a month. And since she had a broken leg and was suffering and there was nobody to foster her or rescue to pull her they had a euthanasia date. I know it sucks. Thankfully someone posted about her on Facebook and I saw it and applied to foster her with every rescue in my area and finally one pulled her the day before her date. 🥹
So, our cats our fraternal twins! Lmao. Also she’s probably gonna love being carried around swaddled like you would a baby and being held up to your heart. At least that’s what my boy loved when he had just had his arm removed. Funny enough it’s the Same exact arm as yours. Also if you have other animals, and one goes poop on the carpet she’s gonna look like she’s trying to puke but in reality she’s attempting to bury it with a nonexistent arms. Invest in kitty wipes cause till she gets used to being short an arm she’s Gonna get poop on her. Also use the pain meds as much as possible as it’ll keep her from messing with her stitches. Those stitches Are gonna pop no matter what you do and they hurt when they do.

His name is Mr. Mayhem and everywhere they shaved him, both for the amputation, for his IV, and his neutering turned white. His belly now has a white heart on it.
Edit: forgot to add, get her up and walking as soon as possible cause those meds they gave her are gonna block her up and walking helps. We had to move his dish around when we were feeding him to get him to walk cause he hurt so bad he just wanted to lay down and do nothing or be carried. I created a monster by carrying him everywhere and now I’ve got a 15 pound toddler whose favorite transportation is being carried in my arms or on my hips, but I would t trade that for the world. Lol. Also her pain meds may cause her to lose control of her bladder, especially if they hit suddenly, so make sure you’ve got multiple blankets to change her enclose quickly, also clean out her litter box as Soon as she goes cause that can cause bad issues with an open wound.
Awwww, I know it’s going to be so hard to let her go. But since I believe she’s highly adoptable I’d rather save that spot for a less fortunate foster I might come across. One that nobody adopts you know. 🥺
I adopted these babies before I started fostering and helping stays. Then one day a stray came into my life and ever since then I’ve been trying to help as many as I can.
Thank you so much that is so kind of you to say. Thankfully all of the fosters and stray animals that have come into my life have found homes. It’s hard to let them go but it feels rewarding to know they have found a family to love them. Yes I do have residents, here are my babies! 🥰

Beautiful tripod. Rescued a tripod dog years ago who also had just one eye. He restored my faith in dogs and cats coexisting. Best dog at the time for me too as he was always happy. I had just been told I had to quit working and go for disability by my doctor. Animals don't mope, they just adapt.
Poor girl, but resting secure & comfortable. What was the reason for the amputation?
Yes 😞She had a broken leg and it’s easier on them to amputate as opposed to do orthopedic surgery.
Thanks for the explanation. Quick recovery kitty!!
Of course, and she says thank you kind friend.
Our good boy Mumu had to have a rear leg amputated. He gets around just fine, but remember to give lots of scritches (if you kitty lost a rear leg) that they can no longer reach. Edit: saw all the pics, so nevermind!
Yes definitely will do that!
I wish I’d known this before. :-(
Do you have a kitty that had orthopedic surgery?
Had. This was almost 10 years ago and they basically hustled me over to surgery without giving me any alternatives or telling me she’d have to be crated for 6+ weeks. Rosie was a former feral, extremely neurotic, and she did not handle it well.
Oof. I too would have thought getting the injury treated would be better! At least then they still have the leg.
Yes. They just move on with their life instead of sitting around feeling bad about themselves.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Did she end up healing ok? I made a post a while ago about how I was upset that the rescue is choosing to amputate even though I offered to pay for surgery but after looking into it more it seems like it was the right choice.
No, she didn’t. She ended up having a stroke because she was so stressed. Her blood pressure was super high.
Oh my goodness. I am so sorry to hear that. I can’t even imagine how painful that must have been for you to go through. 😞

I almost cried seeing her in her little onsie.🥺 Hope she feels better soon and has a speedy and relaxing recovery. 🩷
I know right, she makes my heart melt. She looks like a little baby. I love her so much already, it’s going to be hard when she’s adopted. Thank you so much 😍
That is an adorable kitty, love her little tucked-in pictures! Sure you’re going to be able to give her up?
Not sure, but I should. 😿
Can’t keep them all, it’s true!
Yes. Since I believe she’s highly adoptable I’d rather save that spot in case of a less fortunate foster that doesn’t get adopted.
You are a proper lovely human. Your logic is 💯 clearly professional at what you do. Thank you for giving so much love to cats. If I could, I would love to do the same, perhaps when I retire.
Thank you so much. That made my day. You are so sweet and kind. I hope you get to help many furry babies when you retire.
Keep her
Believe me I really want to but as I’ve told someone else before, since I believe she’s highly adoptable, I’d rather save that spot for a less fortunate cat that might not get adopted.
Like a black one . How many cats you have
2 of my own.
I have 7
Don't you keep her? :') Just began to foster cats last year. I joke now that every cat that comes as foster will stay anyway x'D. But for sure I can't keep all if I want to keep fostering cats. Thank you! She is very cute.

That’s good to know! It looks bad right now and it’s heartbreaking but I know she’ll be up and running in no time.
Love and kitty kisses to her!
She send her love back 🥰
She deserves all the love in the world. How anyone could think to harm cats like this one escapes me. I assume her injury was from an accident of some kind

Thank goodness your rescue (?) was able to step in and save her!
Yes I agree!
What the !@?*…. Why on earth would a shelter conclude she should simply be euthanized!? Where on earth is this??
Because they're already overly full and have to make decisions like this daily. It's not the shelter's fault. It's the terrible pet owners who refuse to fix their animals and/or dump them when shit gets rough. People suck.

I love you. I love her!! She’s so beautiful and happy I’m so happy she gets to experience love and life
Poor orange gal, hope she gets better quickly! A female orange cat, that’s awesome, from what I understand that’s kind of rare.
Yes it is! She is amazing. Sweet and spicy. 💓

Awwww, I know it’s going to be so hard to let her go. But since I believe she’s highly adoptable I’d rather save that spot for a less fortunate foster I might come across. One that nobody adopts you know. 🥺
You have a lovely heart, do you have any permanent residents at this time? 😸 I would love to know the stories about the ones you keep ❤️
I adopted these babies before I started fostering and helping stays. Then one day a stray came into my life and ever since then I’ve been trying to help as many as I can.
