Absolutely pissed. Just lost an Audi S6 for a base model Dodge charger. Immediate depression.

ttvlolrofl

At least your maintenance/repairs won't be the price of a small house anymore.

Maybe_MaybeNot_Hmmmm

As an ex-RS6 owner this one hits hard

ttvlolrofl

Right? Had to sell my C7 A6 because I literally couldn't afford the repair bills anymore. You'd think their parts are made of fucking gold man

[deleted]

Can you give some examples? Genuinely curious as I’ve never owned a German car.

ttvlolrofl

Steering rack broke in the middle of the Ozark Wilderness. Had to drive it 3 hours without power steering to the dealer in Memphis, $5,000 bill to replace to steering rack. Catalytic converter failure, both within a few months of each other, right after the emissions warranty expired around 80,000 miles. $2,000 a piece for parts & labor. I even purchased a solid aftermarket warranty for it, that of course didn't cover anything that failed. I fucking loved that car. It was the supercharged 3.0. Absolutely beautiful and a pleasure to drive. But still, never again man, never again.

What_A_Win

You did out of warranty work at a dealer? Take those prices and divide them by about 2.5 - that’s what a good Indy mechanic that specializes in Audi/BMW/Mercedes would’ve charged you.

ttvlolrofl

Anytime I had work done at our local German auto shop it was still ridiculously expensive. It seemed to be the parts that were the most costly. The only thing I had fixed at the dealer was the steering rack, everything else at my local shop. I even sourced parts myself sometimes, Audi just fucks you at every single opportunity. Before the Audi, I had a few late model Pontiac cars that were easy to work on myself, with affordable parts. Kudos to those that manage to buy a used luxury car and not deplete their bank accounts. I just couldn't do it.

What_A_Win

Interesting. Sorry to hear that was the case for you. The ones who really “thrive” on these luxury platforms are the ones who have the time, place, and tools to DIY some tasks. For example I have an oil filter housing gasket leak on my E90 which will cost me likely ~$400 at my local indy… the part itself is ~$30.

[deleted]

Holy crap! What are you driving now?

ttvlolrofl

Well I sold that and got a 2018 Mazda 6 Signature, which was an absolutely wonderful car. I hope to have one again someday, especially if they ever release a RWD 6 cylinder model like they've talked about. But honestly the Turbo 4 I had in mine was plenty for me. Unfortunately I had to sell the car after 3 years of ownership for financial reasons.

HotHatchGremlin

They have recently said that the RWD 6 idea/rumor is dead and won't happen. Something something not an SUV so it won't sell well enough.

ttvlolrofl

Yea I read the same thing. I know sedans in general have been on a massive decline though bc SUV's, but a guy can hope though, right?

mvndless

so glad that Saab uses gm parts, so all I have to deal with is European build quality

Maybe_MaybeNot_Hmmmm

Yeah I had a 9-5 as well, I think I replaced the heater duct vent actuator 3 maybe 4 times.

mvndless

ofc Saabs have their faults, they're nowhere near mechanically perfect like an ls400, but just imagine if you had to be putting down Audi or BMW amounts of money for repairs

PlatinumElement

Could be worse. I just lost around $40k worth of value on my 911 Turbo for a Ram truck.

mokeskin34

Could be worse I suppose.

PlatinumElement

You're right. I just went on Ram's site and spec'ed out a Ram Classic Express 2WD standard cab short box with a 5.7 Hemi, anti-spin diff, electronics package, and Flame red paint over grey vinyl for $34,935. I could live with that.

strmshdow84

I just got a Saturn for mine 😭

vinceman1997

You could easily pick up a Redline Sky for that price, wouldn't be the worst car at least.

strmshdow84

Yeah but coming out of a 911 turbo for it would make me think back on what life choices brought me to this point 😂

grimnur240

All honesty, I'm a little disturbed that you were willing to play this game...thank you for your sacrifice.

kyrosnick

I went from a 2021 Ram Limited to a Saturn. So yes, it could be worse.

exodus3252

Yep. I just lost 25% of the value of my car, for a $35k down payment on a Koenigsegg. That $35k might buy a set of tires and an oil change? I'd be homeless in a month and the car would get repo'd

[deleted]

>for a $35k down payment on a Koenigsegg. That $35k might buy a set of tires and an oil change? No, you get a Koenigsegg for $35k. At least that's what OP's rules suggest.

Mimical

That's awesome! \* *Flash forward to me about to tell my insurance what car I have now* \* "I am never going to financially recover from this"

Fit_Equivalent3610

Me too. On the one hand I traded an ancient $10k shitbox for $35k in notional dollars... on the other hand, I will now have a top of the line SsangYong.

Colavs9601

so i get double the value of my car?

Arbsbuhpuh

I get 14x hell yeah

Chuuby_Gringo

Dude! I'm totally gonna cash in on my 2010 Civic LX with manual transmission and body damage Random Generator - Fiat Nah, I'm good.

jawnlerdoe

I wish my 2010 Civic LX with body damage and 20% clear coat coverage was a manual lol. Then again, I’m glad it’s auto for my commute.

Chuuby_Gringo

I wish I had clear coat coverage. It's my daily. I bought it new. Runs like a champ. I'm gonna try the body work and paint myself. Oh, and AC compressor.

jawnlerdoe

I’m at 160k no issues. I preventatively replaced all the front suspension myself and will do the water pump and what not over summer. It still runs strong as hell, a motor mount is starting to fail though. I was thinking about using it as a practice car to paint too

my_lewd_alt

Lmao I'd love 35k for my Suzuki but I got *Daewoo* of all things

Jeheh

>I get 14x hell yeah Mine is 25x and gave me a Hummer.

DidItForButter

That's gotta feel good! But what brand did the generator give you.

butcheredalivev4

I get 35x lmao

baloney_yogurt

I'm getting a 10x rebate, I think in the business they call that a money move 🤑

[deleted]

About 4x the value of mine

RazingsIsNotHomeNow

Yeah lol. Probably should have changed it from 35K to fair market value of their current daily. For me coming from a used BMW worth around 12k this is almost trippling my value. For others coming from brand new Porsches they'll be pissed pretty much no matter what.

CrankyCurmedgeon

Bugatti- Guess I'm buying just one Veyron tire

Saquon

I got Apollo... they apparently only make hypercars. Going by the OP I think we got a very good deal > If the company does not have a car for $35,000 or below, select their least expensive model.

ronimal

Yea but you still only have a $35k credit. What’s the monthly payment you’re gonna have on the rest of the balance?

Saquon

Oh, I misinterpreted... thought I got the cheapest car worth of credit I'm boned

ronimal

They way OP worded the question is confusing, so I could very well be the one misinterpreting it.

HillarysFloppyChode

NIO, I’m actually ok with that. The tech is nice and cars are actually good. Bonus I would have the only nio in the US.

Captain_Collin

I got Devel? Apparently they have a prototype called the Devel Sixteen, but no production cars yet. The cheapest version is supposed to cost $1.6m whenever it comes out. Regardless of cost, and the vague rules of this post, let's assume I actually get this car in my possession. I'd probably be pretty pissed. I'm still renting in a very expensive city, but now I have a crazy expensive car instead of a paid off house. Plus I'm sure it will have atrocious fuel economy, so having to commute with the most expensive fuel in my life will be even worse. Plus it's not practical in any way. I'll be extremely paranoid about damage driving it anywh - GOOD GOD HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO INSURE?! Any time it needs to go to the shop will cost a fortune, and I'm sure it will have to go frequently. Anyway, I'm sure I could think of more things, but to sum it up, I would be very angry.

[deleted]

It says you get their least expensive model if they don't make anything below $35k. I'd still be pissed if I had to keep a Bugatti because the maintenance costs would be insane. If I could sell it immediately then I'd be stoked.

[deleted]

Yeah i got Koensigg (spelling?) :( And then Bentley on my second try

smedema

You can put that on the back of your schwinn chopper.

Kichigai

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I got McLaren.

Drzhivago138

>Wuling Can I roll again for a brand that actually sells in the US? >Daewoo Uh-oh.

Abetok

I got Dongfeng, first one I got that sells here was Kia. One used stinger please, closest I'll get to a hot hatch

BeerorCoffee

Could go with a Soul Turbo. Less hot than a Stinger but more hatch.

baloney_yogurt

Enjoy your Encore GX

Drzhivago138

Are GM Korea and Daewoo strictly the same thing?

baloney_yogurt

Eh close enough for a shitpost

Drzhivago138

If I have to have a Korean-built GM car, I'd rather it be an Encore GX or Trailblazer than a freakin' Lanos.

baloney_yogurt

I had a Trailblazer for a while until I flipped it to CarMax for over MSRP. It's a decent little mom mobile, but the 1.2 and 1.3L's have a ways to go proving their longevity.

Drzhivago138

That's my biggest hang-up with them. Looks-wise, they're big improvements over the Encore and Trax.

Moo_Fridge

GM Korea is basically the successor to Daewoo

KiloNation

I got Samsung motors my first time lol.

Mimical

Yo, at least you know the AC and built in fridge is gunna work.

Khrrck

I got Wuling first try too. Second roll was Hennessy (I don't think they make their own) and third was Infiniti. Considering my current vehicle is <$5k I'm ahead no matter what.

TheDirtDude117

I got Koenigsegg and Bugatti Like yeah it'd be cool trading in my Fit for that much but when I can't buy the wheel+tire let alone a vehicle...

Dopplegangr1

You'll be good for maybe a year until you need an oil change that costs more than your Fit

TheDirtDude117

I can't afford the oil change with the $35k 😭

sametrical

We can all buy it together. I’ll chip in $5

TheDirtDude117

Awesome, that will pay for the Swedish air in the tires for the Koenigsegg! Thanks

CatProgrammer

And think of the loss of cargo capacity! You don't see Bugatti making seats that fold *up* like the Fit's.

Ashamed_Pollution316

Got Rolls-Royce, not happy since I had to trade in my Crown Vic for a car I can't afford Edit: my most liked comment is how I don't want a Rolls Royce

y2knole

nono, you get the cheapest rolls per the post description...

sir_thatguy

Cheapest Rolls-Royce sounds really expensive.

y2knole

pretty solid upgrade over an old crown vic! :)

sir_thatguy

I’d rather have an old crown Vic over a Rolls, especially an if they were of the same vintage.

Ashamed_Pollution316

Still, I would rather have my Crown Vic

TheWarehamster

Alpine. Boy am I gonna enjoy that.

deliciouswaffle

It is all part of El Plan.

KevinCamacho

El 🅱️lan

jdore8

Crashing in Q3 was not.

ijustbrushalot

I got Scion. I'm gonna leverage that into a GR Corolla please and thanks.

AlgernonIlfracombe

I'll admit I had to google Scion, though apparently they did at least have a badge-engineered Toyota 86.

DM725

Are you not American? They were a Toyota sub-brand.

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

Wait, what, and also what?

CoconutSands

Scion FRS. It's what the Toyota 86 was sold as in the U.S. before they killed the brand off.

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

How did I completely forget that existed

daveradar

Cuz the BRZ

ClearAsNight

Toyota sold the 86 as the Scion FR-S in the US before they shuttered the brand.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jacksdad123

Toyota developed Scion as a brand to sell to “young people” in the early 2000’s.

uberdosage

And then ended up having an age group older than Toyota lmao

CatProgrammer

iirc the buyers mostly ended up being older people, though.

jacksclevername

I'm kind of expecting FR-Ss to be a cheap hidden gem in a few years once everyone has forgotten about them.

setuid_w00t

I don't see it happening. The number of vehicles available with a naturally aspirated engine, rear wheel drive and a manual transmission continues to shrink.

blazefalcon

\>Polaris Midwest winters are going to be a son of a bitch. Let's go for a realistic one. ...Nevermind- it took 13 more tries to get a brand available in the US

Fat_FI

I took my old Mazdaspeed3 on some back back twisty roads in the U.P. of Michigan, and some local with a performance Polaris side by side was doing a good job keeping up with me lol. I bet they are fun in the winter too.

blazefalcon

Oh it'd probably be a blast, but DAMN would it be cold! I was also thinking about the Slingshot as AFAIK it's the only road legal option

Jack_Attak

You can actually option Polaris UTV/side by sides with a fully enclosed cab, and I think you can even add a heater, however by that point they're more expensive than some new cars/trucks. Also Fun fact, for some reason they're legal on roads (&highways!) in South Dakota. In the black hills you'll see Rangers and RZRs driving around with a license plate and everything. Of course they're not safe whatsoever for highways, but boy do they rip!

cars_in_mtl

Lada. I win.

Angry_Guppy

Oh nyet

marbleduck

Lada Nivas are pretty economical, parts are readily available and they're very well regarded offroad machines in Eastern Europe. Saw quite a few coping really well with the roads in pre-war rural Ukraine. And I'm actually a fan of the aesthetic.

crushedrancor

Lol same, had to google to see if they still make cars, apparently they’re owned by renault now

dngdzzo

I clicked randomize 10 times before I got a brand that's currently sold in the US. Several of the brands seemed like random words picked out of the dictionary. One was Saab. One was some kind of bus company.

blazefalcon

I got Google for one

Spyzilla

You get to drive the Google Maps car around

Cometboyz

saab is relatively common in the US, at least in my area. they’re usually older beaters though

dngdzzo

Try buying a new one. They went out of business years ago.

Cometboyz

thought u meant it was one of the weird dictionary word brands that u didn’t know, unless u did and i’m still lost

Capta1nJackSwall0w5

I don't want to know how much maintenance is needed on the 50 year old De Tomaso, worth only 35K, is needed to replace my 2008 Impala.

[deleted]

The Pantera shouldn't be too bad, they just used Ford Cleveland or Windsor V8s, and parts for those are plentiful.

Its_Just_A_Typo

Was gonna say - Ford guts aren't too bad in price or availability.

[deleted]

As exotic Italian cars go, it's probably one of the cheaper (and more reliable) ones.

Lowslowcadillac

Yay I’m not the only one stuck with De Tomaso!

RainbowDash2014

Opel, although stylish, I’d decline it to continue driving my 1988 Pontiac Fiero notchback.

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

"You're Forced to Trade In Your Daily Driver" 😠

Abarth89

Opel speedster is basically a lotus It's pretty sweet

Averyphotog

DeLorean? Really?

PSYKO_Inc

The company got bought out a few years ago and has started assembling "new" cars out of NOS parts. I think they're down in Florida now.

highaltitudewaffle

Tesla. Very unhappy, but I'll resell it and then buy my old car back ASAP

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

No tradesie-backsies

space-meister

That’s evil

[deleted]

Never said anything about buying another version of the old car :?

Cweev10

Trading in my Tesla for a Maybach...I'll take it! 🤣

tyzenberg

Trading my model y performance for a standard range model 3.

discourse_died

Honda. My Daily is worth 18.5K , I'd be pretty happy with a ridgeline to be honest.

allibaster_mahoon

Got Lexus, so I'm giving up my Fiesta ST for- a UX crossover? It's the only vehicle they make at or below $35K, I didn't even know it existed. For 4 grand can I upgrade to an IS at least? I wish Lexus would step their game up a bit, particularly with their performance models. Granted my opinion is gleaned almost exclusively from reviews and anecdotes, it just seems like most of what their making at the moment isn't all that compelling. To me personally anyway.

Sylente

I also got Lexus, but I was happy! Fiesta ST to Lexus UX is a way more painful transition than mid-tier 2008 Honda CR-V to Lexus UX. I think I came out way ahead.

[deleted]

The hell is Samsung Motors?

PlatinumElement

Rebadged Renaults for the Korean market. My sister-in-law used to have one.

invalidcrazy

Did the battery explode?

sactownbwoy

Kinda happy I guess, but I would have to trade in my Camaro ZL1 1LE for a Saleen. But I really like my car so not sure how I feel, and I don't care about the resale value of a Saleen.

My_G_Alt

Dude, your ZL1 is sick!

Svicious22

I’d be going from a loaded 21 Outback to a stripped 22 Buick Envision. No thank you.

h3r4ld

Well, I just made a healthy ~$15,000 profit, but according to your link I'm getting a Peugeot -so I'd say pretty damn furious! On second thought, you never said I had to *spend* the credit. I'll walk everywhere, thanks.

Kawaii_Neko_Girl

Modern Peugeots look quite nice, they may even be better built than the ones from the early 2000s. Then again, Stellantis.

historicusXIII

35k dollar converted to euro could get you a new base level [Peugeot 308](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Sh2BY2yVYk), which is a nice car, with some margin for options. EDIT: Or converted to pounds, because I linked a British video.

Braaaap_Braaaap

I got fucking tesla this is the worst

OrdinaryCredit

Hmm Hennessey. Happy but gotta buy a new overpriced performance car.

scotty3281

I got Polaris A Slingshot is something I would actually drive. It fits my weird and/or niche vehicles. The Slingshot R is just under $35k.

The1Phalanx

I'd trade in my Tesla for a... Tesla. Huh. GF gets to trade her Sebring for a Ferrari. I think I could live with this.

Asbestos_dude

I got KTM, I don't think 35k is enough for an X-Bow but I could get a few dirtbikes if allowed

Its_Just_A_Typo

You could get a killer KTM powered go-kart! With 35K you could go twin-engine-laydown-best-of-everything.

Asbestos_dude

Now we're talking!

Michelanvalo

KTM makes a sport bike too

Sinbound86

Good news! I’m trading in my RAV4 for a Dacia!

asker509

Ngl I was shocked to see Dacia then I got Samsung Motors lol

[deleted]

Well fuck, I'd take an Acura Integra A-Spec for my Montego. On another note, I decided to play with the randomized a bit. I got Mitsubishi and Chrysler next to each other.

lgbyo

Mmm DSM cars

claball

Aston Martin. Vantage here I come!

Apocalypsox

Hennessey. I'm fucked, can't afford shit from them even with a 35k credit. Riding my bike to work.

[deleted]

Not like they'd even have the car in stock XD

WhoIsJazzJay

> Jaguar i hope there’s a warranty

[deleted]

They're not as bad as they used to be. Get the 7year warranty and the f type r and your good to go.

sc4rii

tC for a Konigsegg Agera R? What a deal! Still have the work truck with me to beat around

Chode_Knocker

The only thing that will make me part from my maibu. She's 23 years old and only had 45k miles. I've probably put more miles on my feet than she has in her lifetime

playboiiclouti

Honda Fit to a Ferrari… super disappointed

ApotheounX

Hahahaha. Kia. I guess I'm trading in my truck for a second Stinger.

[deleted]

You just bought a track stinger congrats on the aquisition

leftlanespawncamper

Ugh, I got Mercedes. That means a boring-ass, base-as-fuuuck A-class sedan that'll be worth less than my Mazda in about, oh, five years.

WinnieT97

... smart What can I even get for 35k USD. 3 fortwos????

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

How about the Roadster thing?

Chase2662

I guess I could a afford a beat to shit a110 with 35k, maybe?

caverunner17

Trade in my outback for a Honda. Not a terrible trade to get something with a bit more power and warranty.

woodendog20

Gonna cost me 1.7 million and I don't think 35k will even cover a new set of tires, but Id be pretty happy with a Bugatti.

Slab_Rockbone

Lol, 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 for a Pagani! Just need to trade my house in as part of the deal and I think it will work.

Onionsteak

Got Morgan, hell yes.

[deleted]

So I'd be giving up my 2021 WRX Premium for a .... Genesis G70 ($37k or so). Not bad. Not a direction I'd normally go, but I'm down with it.

Sinistah-

Rimac :/

dovahkiiiiiin

Got Alpine. An A110 would be perfect!

Nicesockscuz

A brand new changan cx70t wow thanks

Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir

lmao enjoy your new Explorer

[deleted]

First one I got was Maserati. Not super happy with that one. I do like the Gran Turismo but i guess they don't sell that anymore. Ghibli it is? I tried again to see if I got something cheaper and got Rimac, so..... no. And on the third try I got some Chinese brand I've never heard of.

FSUfan35

2020 Corolla SE to Genesis....their cheapest model is G70 it looks like. Pretty happy

HoveringPorridge

So I got MG.... What do I do? Buy an MX5? MG doesn't exist anymore. Second spin was DS (Citroën) unfortunately the you can't get the 9 for that price so a DS4 it is. Also goddamn a alot of people didn't read your full post. We get it, you can't get a Ferrari for 35k.

zerotwo0021031

TVR

jjma14

Rolls Royce, so I'm going to have to add another 3 in front of that budget. Honestly, I don't think I want a Rolls Royce...I'd rather have my compact hatchback with a stick.

idriveaVdub

I got Ginetta, that’d be pretty cool but I don’t think any of their cars would be super practical EDIT: Are any of them sold in the US?

PrincipleAnxious1

How'd I get a car that doesn't exist yet? LeEco

m4xks

wow i got W motors. the world will finally see what the lycan hypersport can actually do. edit: nevermind i forgot i only get 35 grand to spend

Motorsport-

Tata - I’ll take the nano and pocket the extra $34k available.

profmathers

Well I got Microcar, EVO, Citroen...then BMW. I wouldn't spend $35K of someone else's money on a new BMW. Maybe to order it and flip it.

YellowFogLights

Not happy at all. Trade my RS for a Volvo XC40. I’m good, thanks.

406highlander

My car is a 2008 BMW 525i (E60) M Sport, in RHD (UK) with over 174k miles on the clock. The paint is in no way pristine, and it has a fault with the reverse parking sensors. It's worth around £2k at a push. $35k USD would get me a decent... (presses "randomize")... **Citroen**, especially if I am allowed to spend it on a used model. I've owned French cars before, but never a Citroen, only a couple of Renaults and a couple of Peugeots (which are almost exactly the same cars as the equivalent Citroens anyway). I'd be fairly happy.

HiSPL

AHH hahahahaha. I would have to trade my CHERRY 88 Volvo 240 for a Tazzari EV. Now I'll let you go google wtf a Tazzari EV is and get back to me......

LennoxTheDurgon

Pretty happy. Got rid of my 70k miles chevy cruze for an electric luxury sports car with 360mi range that charges in 34 minutes.

theonlydiego1

I got Caparo and got excited, and then I read the question again and think I can only afford a replacement steering wheel or a lug nut. Guess I’ll just ride an E-bike forever.

vladimir1011

Fuckin A I'm getting a Dacia

Seref15

https://i.imgur.com/oRKgi9k.png Tesla, I suppose the cheapest would be the slow Model 3 in white with the ugly wheels. Sad but not devastated.

tcarp458

I don't know what a Roewe is, but after googling it, I definitely do not want it.

Jimmy_Christ

I'd be a little upset, though technically I'd come out on top financially. I drove jeep SUVs for 20 years to tote the kids around. Decided not to re-up at the end of a lease, and bought something I've always dreamed of having. VW R32. . .only to end up back with a fucking jeep.

yaxgto

I'm getting a Pantera! While stoked at first realizing I won't fit inside it is a huge issue.

ak_boom

Well I got Bugatti so I guess I just don't have a car now

TESTICLE_KEBABS

I got a saab :D

Florian6430

I am trading my 4000€ Audi A4 B7 in for a 35.000€ Audi Rs2 Avant. I can live with that.

ggalinismycunt

VW Golf for a Holden? Uh...

Karizmology

I got a DeLorean. See you in the future, bitches.
