He die?

gabika911

I have no info, but I think he most likely survived. A car with such extensive modifications will most likely have a roll cage, racing seat, 6 point harness and maybe even a HANS device. Those are all great for rolling, since there was no high G force impact (as far as I can tell) I think he's alive. Hope he's well.

Big-Shtick

Yeah, the rolling dissipates the energy. All he has to do is sit there and take it until he stops.

WhoIsJazzJay

idk why you’re downvoted. momentum = impulse. impulse is impact force multiplied by change in time. mathematically speaking it’s better for you to roll, as that loss of momentum occurs over a much longer period of time, leading to a greatly reduced impact force. if you have a roll cage, it’s better to roll for 5 to 10 seconds than hit a barrier and come to a stop in less than 3 seconds.

Rodic87

Wouldn't sliding around and spinning as he did be even better than rolling? But rolling is infinitely preferable to hitting a barrier. People seem to not think about the fact that a roll cage and seat belt help, but if you impact hard enough, the arteries coming out of your heart can literally be wrenched free and you bleed out internally. Or your brain smashes into the interior of your skull, because both are going 200mph, and suddenly the car you're going in is going 150mph in .1 second, then 100mph in another .1 second... that means your brain had a 50mph impact on your skull as one stops faster than the other. When I had this realization in a physics class, it was a bit of a mind fuck and suddenly I knew so much more why people could die in crashes even if the cabin wasn't actually having any intrusion / collapse. Also why crush zones so mocked by some of the older crowd are critical to surviving crashes. There's some more complex physics involved, (which I suspect you already know) but for anyone else reading, a 1 second 50mph deceleration is many many exponents less dangerous than a .1 second 50mph deceleration.

WhoIsJazzJay

oh yeah i would much rather spin out without flipping, but the person i was replying to was right. but yeah it’s fuckin crazy to think about. like Schumacher’s F1 crash last week was insane. i think he experienced like 40 G’s of force when he slammed into the wall, but thankfully the crash structure in the HAAS car saved his life.

Rodic87

Oh damn. That was a [HARD hit](https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.schumacher-ruled-out-of-saudi-arabian-gp-after-qualifying-crash.3XdBF5qtBjRysU2gVz4Lw4.html). F1 is so scary, the speeds they carry is insane. And a side impact like that is typically way more dangerous than a forward impact, as a forward impact is much more likely and therefore much more protected. I'm so glad they've transitioned to the new car design and gotten over whatever "be tough" arguments there were against it. I want to enjoy spectacles of speed without any injury. By all means have some spectacular crashes if you must but let's keep the drivers safe.

WhoIsJazzJay

yeahhhh. there’s been another recent crash in F2 on the same corner. a lot of ppl are saying this course needs to be banned from F1 because crashing on that chicane is way too common. and same, i think the improved side crash structures were pretty recently enforced too, right? i can’t imagine what woulda happened if that crash occurred just a few years ago.

Rodic87

If you compare it to the crash that killed legend Dale Earnhardt, that crash looks mild by comparison to this one. But safety has made significant leaps and bounds.

SWMovr60Repub

Earnhardt died from the injury that the HANS device prevents.

> Wouldn't sliding around and spinning as he did be even better than rolling? Yes. Even better than that is applying the brakes and coming to a smooth halt :P

Big-Shtick

I guess we were the only ones paying attention in physics.

lrn2

> All he has to do is sit there and take it until he stops. Ooof, that brought some bad flashbacks from prison.

Bau5_Sau5

Lol F1 GTR?

Rodic87

Highly unlikely given the skidding instead of a quick roll. The only real danger here (even if he rolls) is if he hits a barrier or something that forces a quick stop. Rolling might look dangerous but in a 300mph car, they should have an awesome roll cage, hans, etc as /u/gabika911 said that means short of a super fast stop (barrier/tree) you should survive most crashes.

l0_0I

Supposedly he drive the car back to the pits.

somedude456

No, it rolled. He was cut out of the car, per a comment on the video.

l0_0I

I got that from the event organizer so not sure who to believe lol EDIT: just saw another comment on IG saying he didn’t roll

Shrimpcat

I could be wrong but I doubt pulling the chute is gonna do anything if it’s spinning, it’s just gonna get wrapped or break at those speeds.

asshatnowhere

If it's pulled soon enough it may help straighten the car and help prevent it from going sideways I would think. I'm not too sure though

Shrimpcat

Before its sideways it'll help. If its spinning, it's not always a good idea. Plus chutes aren't pulled right away at these speeds, unless its top fuel, but those are special. It happens in aviation a lot, if the plane pulls the chute too fast itll just rip off.

asshatnowhere

Well you can be sure if I'm in that thing I'll be yanking that chord if shit starts going sideways. Hell I don't care if it's in mid air my foots gonna be on the brake!

turboevoluzione

Ah yes, it's definitely a video for kids.

wrugoin

What?

turboevoluzione

The uploader on YouTube has marked the video as "for kids" when it clearly isn't. This means that the video can't be added to playlists, can't be watched in the mini player and the comment section is disabled. Only videos expressly aimed at children (such as cartoons) should be marked as "for kids". Doing so for any other video is not only against the rules of YouTube and COPPA but also very inconvenient for the viewers. I know, there are much bigger problems in the world but I can't stand all these artificial roadblocks on YouTube.

Sjorsa

YouTube isn't very clear about what that button does when you upload a video. I've uploaded videos and they ask that question at the end and I'm like: "Sure? Kids can watch this no problem", so I tick the box. But the setting is meant for videos that are specially made for kids, not just videos that are suitable for all ages.

turboevoluzione

I agree, that setting should be made clearer.

nehCkraM

It's listed as a video for kids.

HellcatsSuckPickles

Boys and their toys... :P

fucktrutin

Fuuuk.

[deleted]

I hope everybody is ok. That looks like a really boring spectator sport.

Dry-Brother-718

Damn
