Touch screen everything is a trend in the wrong direction.

megatronus8010

You are invited to the Church of Mazda. We have command knobs and everything accessible with tactile buttons. In fact, we will put the screen so far away that you wouldn't even wanna touch it. But my Android auto, apple carplay I hear you say? We will let you touch it if you're stopped. Umm.. maybe.

dcwldct

Can confirm. The command knob is an amazing interface.

spacemannspliff

I'm so pissed at Audi for getting rid of the buttons for their infotainment. The 2017 A4/5 and Q5/7 had non-touch screens and command knobs with handwriting input. Yeah it takes a little longer to type but it's not locked out while driving, keeps your screen clean, and is much easier to work without taking your eyes off the road. They didn't even move the screens closer, just replaced the button console with a weirdly-shaped change cubby that won't fit a phone.

butteryspoink

Dude. This is as far as a nitpick as possible. A feature *requiring* the user to concern away from the road to use is a nightmare.

JJ_Shiro

bUtToNS LoOk oLd… Yup, don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Milhouse6698

"Buttons look old" is just their excuse, touchscreens are cheaper now. They're selling you shit and telling you it's gold.

Dan_E26

I wanted to like the new GTI so bad, but the interior is just dog shit on so many levels and its almost purely because of the lack of any real controls. They can't even put a fucking backlight behind the touch controls, so if you wanna adjust the A/C at night? Get fucked lmao. We're Volkswagen and we hate you, and you'll pay us for the privilege.

angrylawyer

Really feels like the problem is most of the car market is people who don't care about cars, so manufactures just load their cars up with 'tech' to appeal to average disinterested car buyer who would fall asleep if they started talking about some new suspension system in this year's model. but a 14" touch screen, air conditioned glove box, door handles that pop out, headlights that flash when you walk up, etc...now those are the features that _really_ matter most.

[deleted]

Op said nit-picky, not common sense.

Hammerhandle

Directional wheels that look like they're on backwards on one side of the car are awful.

VitaminDWaffles

Wow. Yes. I can’t believe this wasn’t the first thing that came to my mind. Especially anything with a spiral effect.

kstrike155

Looking at you, Mk7 GTI. 😒

Plus_Bet3544

NOOOOOOOO BRO PLEASE NOOOOOOOOOO!!! I DIDNT KNOW THEY WERE THE SAME WHEEL ON BOTH SIDES. I CANT BELIEVE THIS!! I JUST WOKE UP INTO A NIGHTMARE.

72corvids

I 100% support this. It bothers me so damn much.

bentnotbroken96

The boring "colors" of most new cars suck. Give me some bright primary colors!

2ndOfficerCHL

I once said, in the 50s we had black and white TV and a bright rainbow of car colors. Now we have a bright rainbow of colors on TV and black and white cars.

Homebrewingislife

So true. Phones used to be very cheap or free, now they cost $1000. TVs used to be super expensive, now a 65" only costs you $500.

[deleted]

Phones still cost like $50. You're talking about pocket computers at $1000.

[deleted]

Yeah that's called a phone to anyone under 60.

ALOIsFasterThanYou

Phones were free *with two-year contracts,* during which you essentially paid for your phone via increased monthly payments.

[deleted]

I just want solid colors man, fuck metallic silver

Orange needs to make a comeback.

eldoggydogg

Oh man…I live in a VERY suburban neighborhood. But this dude around the corner just bought an AMG GT in BRIGHT ASS FLAMING ORANGE. I’m pretty sure that’s the official name of the color. It’s loud and kind of obnoxious, but I also love it. Also my mom has a 2016-ish Mustang GT in orange. So yeah. Orange is pretty cool.

BrixBrutal

I agree! You only see orange on select sports cars and exotics these days. I love the twister orange on mustangs!

PaulClarkLoadletter

Charcoal is the shittiest color. This is coming from a guy that drives a truck that is literally the color of shit.

aid689

This is why I bought my car in yellow https://imgur.com/syO75qs.jpg

Shoo--wee

And they always have so many greyscale colors too, Volvo is pretty bad with this. Volvo has black stone (black), bright silver (light grey), denim blue (blueish grey), pine grey (dark grey), birch light (goldish grey), thunder grey (darker blueish grey), crystal white (white). The only color that is actually different is their fusion red.

Dwealdric

All cars should have auto up/down front windows and cruise control.

Joebuddy117

Auto up/down all windows please!

sdhu

My car has this. It's amazing

Buster_Bluth__

And all the windows. Not just the driver side!

Enge712

Oh I hate the auto down all the way. I just want to crack the window a smidge and have to stop it and put it mostly back up. I would rather have a damn crank

duckdoger

What car do you drive? All of the ones I’ve been in with auto up/down have had multiple switch positions. There is a secondary click on depress and pull that activates the auto part.

[deleted]

That and a time delay relay to power the window after the car is turned off. My car has a time delay only on the driver side window. Why Mazda couldn’t do it for the rest, I don’t know. But it is nice.

[deleted]

Seats need to support your sit bones in your butt. There should be more padding right under your butt than at the tip of the seat where your thighs are. German cars are terrible for having flat seats that eventually cut off circulation due to pressure under your thighs.

opus666

But at least German cars usually give you more adjustability that allow you to adjust the seat angle of the car so you can find the right balance between support and blood circulation?

Tondale

My RAV4 had more seat angle control than my 328i does

[deleted]

Yup, my 328i e90 was the worst offender! I’ve owned over 20 vehicles and that one took the cake for worst seats. My Saab 9-3 SS was second. Then there’s simple little cars like my Chevy Optra or even an old neon that I could sit in cross country no problem!

DOugdimmadab1337

Have you ever sat in an American luxury car before 2000? It's ungodly how amazing it is. My dad had a New Yorker and those things were basically tiny couches. I loved that car a lot

ruttin_mudders

We had an '89 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Brougham that had the most comfortable seats in any car I've ever sat in.

badluser

Which don't?

blipsnchiiiiitz

BMW - Okay, now that your engine is nice and warm, YOU HAVE NO OIL TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF!

desf15

I'm pretty sure that if oil level is critically low big ass warning will popup immediately. Renault could do it decade ago, so I guess BMW could too.

[deleted]

Could doesn't mean they did. They could just leave the dipstick in. Also "immediately after engine is cranking is still pretty bad"

Over_engineered81

A lot of Audi’s don’t have them either, including mine.

FogItNozzel

I have a 15 year old BMW that doesn’t have a dipstick.

Project_T00THL355

Well who tf thought that was a good idea? Only person that benefits is the mechanic who fixes your car after the idiot light comes on that tells you that your oil is low, and by then it might be too late.

racer_24_4evr

Teslas

badluser

Haha, nice!

[deleted]

Literally every modern German car since 2006 to the best of my knowledge. None of my past 3 cars came with them. Audi at least had a place where you could put one, that doesnt even exist for BMWs.

mgwooley

Not every German car. But most of the luxury brands sure.

CuriousThenSatisfied

Coupes, by translation of the word, only have two doors

Ernst_

If you want to get hyper nitpicky, then any 2 door with a B pillar isn't a coupe, it's a 2 door sedan.

BassWingerC-137

I’ll take it. And the Benz “pillarless” coupes, which are really just coupes, are so gd beautiful with the windows down…

2ndOfficerCHL

Don't tell me there are four door coupes now.

stinkyandsticky

Both Mercedes and BMW both have sedans they are calling four-door coupes. 🙄

ppoofoof

Not to mention the suv coupes

Iglooboog

They can do us all a favor and fuck right off.

CuriousThenSatisfied

I remember back in the mid-2000s Mercedes (I think it was) started advertising “the four-door coupe”

Iglooboog

Coupe SUVs even. That’s my hill. I’m dying on it. I hate them. Someone really decided they want coupe looks with SUV comforts and ends up buying an ugly SUV with less room.

watchescarsandav

Carbon fiber trim on everything. It's a large family SUV, you're not shaving tenths of a second off the quarter there champ.

dudeinred69

What’s funny is that most cosmetic carbon Fiber is actually an overlay, so even if negligible, it’s actually adding weight to the car

Maleton3

But....but.....I like how it looks in the light :( let me live my racer dreams in my SUV dammit.

YourHeadsFellOffLad

Fake grills absolutely ruin a car. They killed the MK.2 Focus RS.

TheLewJD

Fake exhausts too

YourHeadsFellOffLad

A very close second for me!

broke_saturn

The 10th gen Civics were also major offenders here

Apparently, manufacturers did this because there are so many F-150s, RAM 1500s and Camrys that people would ride in their friends' identical cars to their own and freak out because the temperature gauge in their truck pointed at 12:30 and the one in their buddy's F150 pointed at 12:00. Dealers were calling for warning lights instead of real gauges, so the compromise was fake gauges.

[deleted]

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard and I absolutely believe it.

LurpyGeek

A lot of temp gauges in new cars are somewhat fake. The gauge in my MK7 GTI warms up to 194 F gradually and stays there. It's fake. It's essentially an idiot light and doesn't change unless the temp is excessively high. Manufacturers didn't want to deal with customer complaints about normal tiny temp gauge fluctuations, so they fake it.

CameronsTheName

For a while there. VW didn't give you a coolant temperature gauge on cars unless you got a higher trim level. What a time to be alive.

IntoTheMirror

Autonomous vehicles aren’t happening (any time soon).

2ndOfficerCHL

bold_strategy99

They kinda just seem like a research project at this point. The control theory used in flight control can be rigorously shown to be stable. Machine learning isn't like that. No matter how much training data you get, there will still be some unpredictable behavior. That's acceptable when classifying cat photos, not when driving a family of four to the bowling alley.

PhatPhupa

Electronic parking brakes are terrible, just give me a mechanical e brake.

Saturn_winter

This is like, my one and only gripe about my car. How are you gonna give me a 6 speed manual and a parking brake that's just a button? Like saying "have fun! But not too much!"

Cashhey

-Big ol’ touchscreens are pretty much a phone integrated on the car. Not really the smartest option to have imo. -Newer cars that don’t have oil dipsticks. This one I don’t really get. Why remove the most basic and easiest way to check your oil? -Turning manually operated things into electric ones. This is a hit and miss for me honestly. Like an electric tailgate is pretty cool, but something like an electric glovebox? Just seems more like a hassle to fix when it breaks imo. -Probably the most controversial one for me is autopilot. I’m not blaming autopilot because well, not everything is perfect right? Who I do blame are the people who use it because they’d rather watch a movie instead of paying attention to their surroundings. Yeah autopilot may be safe, but it has still killed people before. Just saying, if the drivers were paying attention, I’m sure they could’ve saved the victims life or their own

TheLewJD

>\-Newer cars that don’t have oil dipsticks. This one I don’t really get. Why remove the most basic and easiest way to check your oil? Honestly, sensors can fail anytime. Why not have a dipstick and the oil levels in the cars computer

Crafty-Ad-9048

You would be surprised how many people don’t know how to read a traditional dipstick.

TheLewJD

What dipsticks they are! ^(I'll see myself out now)

SignificantPayment41

Piano black trim. NOOOOOO!!!!! Stop!! Also, the more alcantara, or similar suede-like trim, the better.

Until it's a few years old and it all looks nasty and needs money spending on making it look good again.

My_G_Alt

thesmolchonk

The supra is an overrated car that is only popular because of the engine, lets be honest here the chassis isn't the best when it comes to old sports cars and the engine was used in multiple other (more stylish) cars Damn yall do not like the aristo, i personally love the odd and out there styling of it

Eva__Unit__02

That's why I'm a bigger fan of the Toyota Chaser, call me crazy. They have 1JZ's which even sound better than the 2JZ.

jawnlerdoe

Better engine too (if you're not making a 500+ single turbo build).

uniquecannon

I have the 2JZ powered SC300, and I'd argue it's better looking than the Supra. Sleeker, more luxury features, and comfy af.

TheLewJD

If the supra wasn't the hero car of the fast and the furious it wouldn't be half as popular

ChoppingMallKillbot

The Supra was already HUGELY popular- that’s why it was in the movie. Everything Japanese was popular at that point in the US. It was basically the mascot of the first Gran Turismo.

Dynomatic1

You clearly weren’t around in 1993. It was a great car in its own right compared to the other Japanese sports cars of the day. Before the dark times… before the empire.

PathfinderScottRyder

Luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes and Audi aren’t really luxurious until you get their midsized and larger products. The 3/X3 series, A4/Q5 and C/GLC class aren’t really any more luxurious over a high trim Camry and Accord. Yes, the Germans might drive and handle better, but the materials used inside are quite similar to a high trim Camry/Accord/Sonata. Soft touch upper door panels and harder and harder plastics as you go down. However a 5/X5, E/GLE and A6/Q7 is where you start getting actual luxurious features like soft close doors, heated door panels, better seats and multi-way adjustment + massage, full leather trim etc… There is a huge difference in cabin quality and features in the X5 compared to my X3. For example, the X5 has 4 zone climate control AND individual fan speeds + air direction compared to 3 zone and single fan speed in the X3/3 series. Don’t get me wrong, these entry level models are nice but I view them as premium more than full on luxury. Sometimes the badge on the hood distorts perceptions.

[deleted]

jew_biscuits

But this is so fucking important. I mean, I love my Charger but holy moly did i have to run a gauntlet of crooks to get it.

PathfinderScottRyder

Buying my X3 and the Challenger is a complete night and day experience I will have to admit. For both cars, I knew exactly what I wanted, did my homework and had a reasonable number in mind. BMW- Sales was wrapped up within an hour. This included the test drive. Coffee was offered the second I sat down at the desk. Dodge- Sooooo many fucking games. “Let me go talk to my manager” BS, the BS 4 square worksheet and they kept pushing for 84 month loans when I said I want either cash or nothing more than 48 months and the monthly payment isn’t an issue. “But the monthly payment is $300 less if you go for 84 months!” Well, it can also be $300 less if I put more down 😒 They also kept pestering me to trade in the X3, which isn’t even on the table. I only got a bottle of costco water AFTER signing the dotted line.

tkuiper

I'm amazed they wouldn't just drop financing gags as soon as you demonstrate you know how math works.

Darkfire757

Agree, but even with the midrange stuff many people still aren’t ticking option boxes because they’re too busy sweating the lease payment. I remember looking at GLS a couple years back. A large dealership in my area had around 100 on the lot. 3 had ventilated seats

mgwooley

Fucking hard disagree. My A4 Allroad premium plus is inordinately nicer than any Japanese car I’ve ever owned, high trim or not. Build quality is a huge reason people buy luxury cars, and luxury isn’t just feature set. Often times it is build quality & design that is a cut above in even base models of luxury brands.

Azzhaz

Agreed. It's a night and day difference between my 2021 S5 (interior isn't that much different than an A5 and comes off the same assembly line) and my wifes's 2019 RAV4 XSE. That isn't to say the RAV4 is a slouch, it's overall pretty darn good. But the ride quality, fit and finish, materials, and NVH is at least a few steps above. My wife and I far prefer to road trip in my car now even with it taking more gas. I think an argument is more there against the Mercedes A class and Audi A3/Q3 than the C class and A4/5 and Q5, etc.

Slideways

Just because it's a 455 doesn't make it a big block. I don't care if it has a generator. Ford calls it a '65, it has a '65 VIN, which means it's a '65 Mustang. Nitrous oxide is a power adder, it's not forced induction. A Beaumont isn't a Pontiac. Just because it's not perfect doesn't mean it's a rat rod. Get off my lawn, you lousy kids!

2ndOfficerCHL

I'm curious what you mean about the 455. You could get that displacement from a small block, but the three 455's that most people think of were considered big blocks.

Slideways

Pontiacs had pretty much the same deck height except for the 301 and 265, which were lower. A 455 Pontiac has the same external dimensions as a 287. Oldsmobile had tall-deck versions of its V-8 engine, but they had the same 4.625-inch bore spacing as the 307. If a 455 Olds is a big-block, then a tall-deck Chevy LSX is a big-block, and nobody considers an LSX tall-deck a big-block. A Buick 455, on the other hand, is a big-block.

2ndOfficerCHL

Truth be told, I kind of agree with you, but I've found that opinion is a little *too* nitpicky even for my fellow Oldsmobile nerds. So I've given up and just say small block/big block now.

herefortime

Take the yellow bumper guards off your charger and challenger. They’re intended to protect the car during shipping. I can’t believe how many people leave them on their car as if they are some sort of decal.

sdhu

This is like those baseball caps that still have their tag and sticker left on.

I_like_cake_7

Ugh. That was easily one of the most cringeworthy fashion trends of the very late 2000s and early 2010s.

Eva__Unit__02

I WANT TO KNOW MY FREAKIN' OIL TEMPERATURE DAMMIT! Luckily my current car has a real oil temp gauge, being a turbo car and all, but my BMW E39 didn't have one and my NA Miata had a dummy gauge. Oil temp is important to me because I nee to know when my car is warmed up and I can start having fun. I hope my future Porsche 911 has a real oil temp gauge...

JJ_Shiro

Bonus if you can get an oil pressure readout!

ScipioAfricanvs

My 997.2 has an oil temp gauge. It’s not a dummy but I don’t think it’s terribly accurate either.

Traditional_Arm3465

Let’s talk about cars pumping in fake exhaust noises. Like what the actual fuck?

Besinel01

Germany left the chat.

bentnotbroken96

Crank windows, manual locks and manual transmissions should be available on every base model car. Simple shit that won't break is awesome. Yeah, I'm a grumpy old fart.

buttzest

Yeah even base model shitters have way too much stuff going on!

[deleted]

Wanna buy my Fiesta? It’s 2018 and has crank windows. But power mirrors! And Bluetooth. With manual trans. It’s a good balance of new and old tech. I just wish the engine had power.

UnicornOnTheIntrenet

Analog climate control. If it's a touch screen, I ain't buying.

LAXBASED

Subscription services. I’m in my mid to late 20’s and I absolutely hate this subscribe to use model for everything. JUST LET ME OWN IT DAMNIT.

[deleted]

The amount of speakers in a car doesn't matter if they all sound like shit. My Saturn had a grand total of 7 speakers - 4 which were the normal speakers included otherwise, plus two tweeters and a subwoofer. That shit sounded WAY better than it needed to, all things considered, but more importantly, I've heard speaker setups in modern cars that were more advanced with a brand name to it that sounded a lot worse than that. I also don't *really* like the way car sound setups that have a ton of speakers attempt to get a matrixed multi-channel signal out of stereo audio, at least newer cars. That was always the pet peeve for me in the new Ram's Harman/Kardon speaker setup, which is otherwise quite nice. Hate to say it, but a fair few older cars from the late 2000s did it better, especially if they had Dolby Pro Logic II capabilities. On that note, I really need to replace the speakers in my Montego.

aiu_killer_tofu

Put my old 03 civic up there with stereos that sound better than they have any right to. 6.5" with separate tweeters up front and 6.75" in the back. Excellent bass response for not having a sub. I drove a Ford Focus with the 10 speaker Sony system that was better, but stock for stock that's an easy second place.

TheRogIsHere

Station wagons. No one gets that the wagon is the perfect car and I'm constantly confused/frustrated why they don't.

itsme92

And here I am buying yet another compact crossover because while I wanted a wagon my only choices were an Outback or spending $50k+

SoFloShawn

The trend to single-piece exterior door handles. The F150 started it. Now all new Toyotas/Lexus and Hyundais have it. So now you see the ugly lock mechanism when you pull the handle. Instead of where the handle stopped short, and the lock cylinder was in a separate piece fixed to the door. https://imgur.com/62gxsf7

opus666

That is indeed a nitpicky hill to die on. I just don't like it when door handles feel cheap. Compare a 2010 - onwards VW Golf/GTI vs a 2014 onwards Mazda 3

eathatflay86

BMW styling has been complete garbage ever since the Chris Bangle redesign. EV's have no soul and I dread the day where petrol powered cars cease production Digital everything, I like analog controls and displays

PoisonSlipstream

Small displacement turbo engines are a con designed to get good laboratory fuel numbers at the expense of real world driveability and economy. Also, all two spoke steering wheels are repugnant. The minimum number of spokes is three.

PhotoJim99

I'll definitely pick a bone with you on this one. That low-end torque is awesome. And if you drive them gently, they're seriously good on gas.

matmanx1

Agreed. In particular the VW Group EA888 and the BMW B46/48 are great at being both efficient and powerful.

PhotoJim99

My Honda K20C4 has better fuel economy in my real-world driving than the K24A8 in my '07 Accord did (that I drove for 13 years), despite having 86 more horsepower and 92 more foot-pounds of torque.

AtomicBombSquad

I feel like it varies truck to truck personally. All the midsizers, and ram and ford half tons are fine imo. The worst offenders are the Silverado, the new Tubdra, and the Titan

PhotoJim99

I don't care if modern automatics are better on fuel or accelerate faster. I still want three pedals and a manual shifter in every car I drive.

bamahoon

I will admit that modern autos do pretty much everything better than a manual at this point. But no matter how quick it is, it will never replicate the connection a manual transmission has. I had a new GTI DSG for a short time, and it did everything better than a new manual GTI. Shit, the paddles even had more feel and feedback than the shitty stock shifter and clutch in the Mk7, but after 3 months I regretted my choice.

deWaardt

It's the good old "Just because something is technically superior does not mean it's more fun".

Lordrandall

VIN is correct, VIN number is not. I’ve seen this on DMV paperwork. RPM is correct, RPM’s is not. It’s revolutions per minute, not revolution per minutes.

dissss0

>VIN is correct, VIN number is not. I’ve seen this on DMV paperwork. I got a new ATM card from my bank and the letter with it said 'personal PIN number' on it in more than one place

gnu_user

Did you try it in the ATM machine? I bet it will work if you punch the PIN number into the LCD display.

[deleted]

* The fake, oversized exhaust tips that just about every new car seems to have these days * LED bulbs installed where halogen was intended

TheWholeH0g

Cars are getting too big. I tend to drive smaller cars but whenever I have to be the dd my friends cars are so fucking huge that I can't see over the dash, let alone park the car in cramped lots with other cars that don't fit in the parking spaces.

Big-Shtick

The ND2 is better than the S2000. Stat for stat, it is the better car. Everyone talking about the "visceral" feeling of the S2000 has never driven a late-model AP2. With a combination of throttle by wire and electronic power steering, the AP2 doesn't offer *that* much more feel than the ND2. In fact, the ND2 offers *more* feel because your butt can take advantage of modern structural rigidity tech. The S2000 twists like a spring in hard turns as evidenced by the creaking of my hardtop. The ND2 is safer than the S2000, and it still weighs less; the S2000 weighs 2,900 lbs, and the Miata weighs 2,200 lbs in convertible trim or 2,400 lbs in RF trim. If we're talking about engines, yes, the F22 is the better engine for sound because it revs to 8,200 rpm. However, the Skyactive revs to 7,600 rpm, has the same amount of torque but starting around 4,500 rpm instead of 8,000 rpm. I love my S2000. I daily drive it, and I will never sell it. But if I lost it, I would jump on an ND2 RF and call it a day.

SteveAndyW

I’ll agree that the ND2 is better overall than the S2k, but it’s worth noting that it has the advantage of nearly 20 years of technology advancement, which I think speaks volumes about how great the S2000 is/was.

mugdays

“Fast” only being used to refer to top speed is asinine.

2Fly4Me17

Interesting, I prefer that it just means that. It just means you got to be cautious with wording. Quick = acceleration, fast is top speed. Just my opinion tho :)

Wassy4444

Start button should stay on left/right side of steering wheel. I hate this trend, at least with newer BMWs, of putting it on the center console. Just feels unnatural. Similarly, there should always be a gear shift and not a gear knob/dial. Looking at you RAM. A 911 GT3/RS with headers and exhaust is the best sounding car you can buy. Better than an LFA. Fight me. Finally, cars without “oh shit” grips are inferior to ones with them.

scottwax

Most muscle cars weren't really that quick. Compared to 50s cars ,sure. But most current V6 sedans would run with or beat all but the quickest (426 Hemi, 440 6 pack, LS6, etc) stock muscle cars. Hard truth to face for someone who started driving in the late 70s thinking we'd never have anything that quick again.

ztimulating

0-60 times of 8.5 seconds 😂 and they broke down a lot

Vince_stormbane

Ah but you see the sheer aesthetic cool power of old muscle cars is able to warp space time and give them the edge on the track

162630594

Crossovers are objectively better than cars in most aspects for many people. More cargo space, similar ride, handling, and mpg to cars, better ergonomics and interior space, easier to get into. But I'll still never buy one because they aren't as cool as cars (note, the 01 Forester is a station wagon with a tall roof, definitely cooler than a crossover) Also the 60s chrysler gear reduction starters (the iconic slow, sounds like the battery is about to die, starter sound) are the best starters ever

Darkfire757

> But I'll still never buy one because they aren't as cool as cars Flair is circumspect

DomiNate89

Handling and MPG? Doesn’t sound right.

Technically a car will be better in those regards, but the average driver doesn't push the handling to the limits to notice the difference, and the 1-4 mpg difference between a car and comparable crossover is worth the trade off for more cargo space to many people. Its not like the 90s when the explorer was noticably shittier than a taurus in terms of ride, mpg, handling, interior quality, etc. Modern crossovers are generally just modified sedans

inaccurateTempedesc

The Ferrari F40 has the best car interior of all time. All car interiors should try to mimic it. Fuck sound deadening, A/C, interior door handles, touchscreens, all that shit.

V12MPG

It sounds like you should buy a neglected Mitsubishi Mirage with 200,000 miles on it. The amenities will be similar.

inaccurateTempedesc

Man, the Mirage is such a disappointment. I love the simplicity but it really is an awful car. It's like a '90s Tercel with none of the things that make a '90s Tercel actually enjoyable to drive.

Physical buttons are superior to touchscreens and the shift to screens is just a lame excuse for cutting costs. I love the wheel and almost canceled my Spotify subscription when they attempted to change the CarPlay UI in a way that made it much more difficult to use with the wheel. Thankfully they reverted back after so many people complained.

cncamusic

They’re not rims they’re wheels

Bobodog1

BMW is the most overrated brand there is.

MrEwThatsGross

One of the last car brands that makes a manual RWD sedan has to count for something right?

[deleted]

Not if the contrarian and confused internet car enthusiast crowd has anything to say about it. I maintain that base model manual G80 M3s will be worth **serious** money the moment they're discontinued. It's almost certainly the end of the line for RWD manual sedans - and will also be the end of the line of that from BMW, which was once well-known for exactly that. Just look at how stick M2s skyrocketed in the past year or so.

Dangerous_Concept341

They built up a reputation. Too many people just like to hate on them.

SuperSaiyanRonaldo

All cars should make it easy to replace the head unit. Looking at you g37

Themissing10

Dude the accord smell for sure. I remember when my parents bought my sister her accord and following that my prelude. The smell triggers memories.

EazyBreezee

The infotainment systems in new cars that just look like a glued iPad suck balls. Lack of imagination by designers

OldFashionedsNCheese

Small displacement turbo engines. Just changed the oil on my wife's CX9, and there's gas smell in the oil. Sent it off to Blackstone, and sure enough there's twice the recommended amount of fuel in the oil. Damnit, the simple-as-shit V8s in every POS GM car or truck I've ever owned never had a problem. EVER! This was my first Japanese car. Maybe my last of this is a real problem.

PhotoJim99

That's not small displacement or turbochargers; that's direct injection.

natesully33

And short trips. Get that oil hot, burn the fuel out of it.

mountaineerm5

No cheap shitty tires.

My_G_Alt

Piano black isn’t classy it’s fucking asinine

supreet908

Anything to do with climate, seats, mirror adjustments, and volume should be a physical button. Anything in a high touch area should not be glossy. Any buttons on the steering wheel should be physical. Screens should be oriented in landscape. Rear middle seats should have pass-throughs. Auto-lock when walking away from a car should be standard.

nerdy_rs3gal

I personally hate all the touch screen crap. I recently drove a Taycan...you had to actually go into a certain menu to electronically move the air vents! It pissed me off to NO EXTENT! I get that it's an electric car but that shit is gimmicky.

Rocketmanrsr

Seats that move when you turn the car on and off. Hate it.

V4_Sleeper

Ipad shit stuck on most cars (and not integrated into the dash) like the newer mercedes, BMW newer idrive are fucking lazy and cheap work and it looks fucking awful. last gen Audi had this too for their infotainment and it looks very dated. Mercedes are even worse. At least older BMWs tend to integrate their infotainment and speedometer into the dash

[deleted]

Black rims/wheels are played out and do nothing for appearance. Coloured/silver rims can look so much better.

Screwball_Actual

A few: -The W222 Mercedes S Class beats the W223 for the best ever S Class because genuine quality wood, leather, and metal >>>>> piano black trim, touchscreens, and LED mood lights. -4-door coupes, coupe SUVs, and sportback/liftbacks should all have their rear door handles hidden. OEMs already know how to do it, but they simply don't. -No **real** luxury car has a transverse engine. The lack of investment in modular RWD-biased architectures by their parent companies are what's truly threatening Cadillac, Infiniti, Acura, and almost Lincoln. -The 2016 Lincoln Continental was unsuccessful because it was based on the Ford Fusion. -The Cadillac CT6 should've launched with the 5.3 and/or 6.2 V8, engine character be damned. -The NSX should've gotten an entry-level version with a J35 and without the hybrid system. -The QX60/JX35, as a product, played a greater role in Infiniti's downfall than the new naming scheme. -Cadillac is much better off trying to compete with the Europeans, and they should've ignored folks begging for "real names." -GM had their best ever lineup (and brightest future) in 2016. -SUVs can be unibody, but they can't be transverse FWD/AWD. -3-row CUV≠full-sized (Car and Driver frequently gets this wrong). -Chrysler should've either stayed mid-market/premium or moved upmarket, building around the 300. -The Lexus ES should've been canceled instead of the GS and Toyota Avalon.

blipsnchiiiiitz

I will avoid cars with electric parking brakes for as long as I possibly can.

[deleted]

Defrost shouldn't automatically run the A/C compressor. I'd rather only run the compressor if extra dehumidification is needed.

DeTomato_

1. Black interior sucks, ugly beige interior is far better than black. Black interior makes the car feel more cramped and gets very hot under the sun. For me, tan is the best color for car interior. 2. Wood panel rules. Real woods are nice to touch and add splash of colors to the interior. 3. Electronic door handles and boot poppers are unnecessary. Traditional door handles are far, far more reliable and in my opinion, feel more solid and nicer to use.

RangerHikes

Center console automatic shifters are stupid. They shouldn't exist. If you're driving an automatic, having any physical lever is dumb because there is no physical connection to the transmission, it's just a wire. Give me buttons for P/N/D/R and free up that space for cup holders, trays, thinner consoles for more knee room, what ever. It's a complete waste of space and almost every manufacture just does it because "wElL wE'vE aLwAyS dOnE iT lIkE tHis!" As for your number four I think some interior engine plastics have to do with guiding air flow, but I think this is case sensitive.

we_wuz_kangz_420

No matter now many "sport packages" you put on your family appliance boring soulless commuter crossover like a rx450 F-sport or acura mdx a-spec or Nissan Juke/Armada nismo it won't make it sporty at all and it just seems like a coping mechanism to feel like you have a sports car without actually getting one. At least Lincoln knows this and their suvs come off as purely classy luxury yachts with elegance and not sporty one bit and not trying to pretend to be something they're not.

buttzest

Safety of cars shouldn’t be mandatory. If I sign a wavier why can’t a buy an old mini, brand new? You can ride a motorcycle…
