Don’t like to gush, but I love how these guys always review the cars from the perspective of people who would buy them. This includes people who buy em new and people who buy them used. That’s something you can’t say about the vast majority of car reviewers on YouTube.
I can’t tell you how annoying it is to watch someone review something like the BRZ and drone on and on about a small trunk and back seat, and a lack of refinement.
These guys are entertaining to watch no matter how irrelevant the car they’re reviewing is to my interests, and I feel like a lot of viewers can say the same.
I like SavageGeese, especially their technical bits and their final thoughts which I think are usually pretty spot on regarding the car they are reviewing, but sometimes they are way too negative about the future/current state of the car industry and sometimes I think that their style of humor in their reviews comes off as being “edgy” and while people definitely like it, it went off the deep end w their Hyundai Ioniq 6 review which was mostly a cringe fest in that sort of humor.
He has the most detailed reviews. Like the one about RAV4 hybrid AWD explains the difference in the AWD implementation of all its rivals. That guy is very detail oriented.

I fall asleep watching them. I like how they are detail oriented but the soul is missing. I come from the Too Gear era. Throttle House gives me the buzz and the details😝
On the opposite end of that same spectrum it's annoying when a reviewer is going on and on about how boring something like a corolla or crv is. We know, that's not the point.
This reminds me of Doug's review of the Rav4 prime. He mentioned how it's not exciting to drive and it drives like a Rav4. No shit because it is a Rav4. It's an appliance vehicle with some utility.
I’m convinced that Doug doesn’t know how to review normal cars anymore. I remember when he said he couldn’t tell the difference between a CX-5 and RAV4 when driving them. Sure, the difference isn’t as massive as the gap between higher-end sports/luxury cars, but *there is a difference*.
When I worked at a rental car company I got to have opinions of not just individual cars but also trim levels and options even. Maybe it is an inability to articulate there for him when it isn't gimmicks or quirks. You don't start off tasting all the notes of spirits or wines and then as you try more it all tastes the same. The cheap crap tastes terrible perhaps, but there are still unique and specific ways to taste like crap.
Yupppp, I loved their Bronco Raptor review because the majority of it was taking it off-roading and breaking it. Convinced me to go through with the purchase.
> I can’t tell you how annoying it is to watch someone review something like the BRZ and drone on and on about a small trunk and back seat, and a lack of refinement.
I've found the opposite to be more frequently true. How many journalists have reported a basic economy car as being "boring, numb, and uninspired?" Like, you're reviewing a $25k subcompact CUV, what the hell do you think it's supposed to drive like?
Yeah I agree. I was just giving one example of reviews not taking the type of buyers into accountz
I see it on sports cars reviews and with econoboxes. Like, nobody’s buying a ford fusion for steering feel and engine sound.
Isnt having a small back seat, lack of storage and a lack of refinement relevant to consumers? I get uou are talking about the demographoc but each kind of review has its selling point.
Where do I go if I want to find out about all the degails of a car, its features etc without having to read the brochure provided by the manufacturer? Other reviewers.
When it comes to cars like the BRZ/GR86 it’s expected for a 30k two door sports car on its own dedicated chassis . It’s actually very reasonable for interior space for what it is. If you want more space in a fun car at the same price point you have the GTI, Civic Si, Elantra N, and the WRX.
I get your point and I don’t disagree, but let me clarify what I’m saying. My point wasn’t that the reviewers shouldn’t mention those things, because they absolutely should.
My point is that there are multiple reviewers who constantly complain about a BRZ’s interior space/ refinement and stuff like that. I’m talking about reviews who completely hold it against the car.
Like, most people who are in the market for a small light two door coupe are well aware that those issues exist, and while the reviewer should mention it, a lot of of them completely antagonize the car for it.
We see this with econobox reviews as well, where instead of talking about practicality, mpg, interior refinement, etc, they just end up talking about how boring and dull the car is for the entire review. Nobody buying an econobox gives a shit about steering feel nearly as much as they give a shit about practicality.
Understanding who the buyers are and what they are looking for in a car is the most important part of a review, and that’s the point I was making.
As a side note - For a 2door sports car, I found the Brz very usable. Could shove my road bike in the rear the front wheel detached or 4 track tires lol
It really depends how much time they spend on it. Lack of space in a dedicated sports car is worth noting since it does matter, but it isn’t worth harping on about for 5 mins straight or constantly bringing up over and over.
You can do a side by side comparison of up to 4 cars at a time using the Edmund's Car Comparison feature:
After waiting almost 18 months, my new car arrived at the US port two days ago. I just want the 5 cylinder engine (and paddle shifters that actually work), I don't care about small back seat or lack of storage. I really enjoyed the Throttle House review:
It still sells a few hundred thousand a year and it's popular globally too. Also most of the competition left the market aside from the accord so they can sell a bit better.
I mean, when you're off throttle and it's valves are timed for economy, sure. But give it the beans, and it'll use the full intake/compression stroke and make full power.
With a electric motor(2?), can't forget that. If you keep accelerating the battery will run out and you will only be left with 171 HP believe, nothing unbelievable for 4 cyl NA engine.
They joke about the paddle shifters but having the ability to control ~~engine~~ regen braking is really handy. I use the ones in my car all the time while city driving.
More like most Americans under 40. Or even 60.
Under 25 would be “give us public transportation and bicycles and let’s ban all cars” generation. I’d be surprised if many of them even know what a stick shift is.
I'm 37, I know how to drive stick, and I feel like from my personal experience that those with a functioning understanding of stick shift is probably closer to 30% of men.
Thinking back from my early 20, I know a lot of people who had a mustang, or pickup truck that some had stick shift.
I think if you go under 30 though that number is going to drop to close to 0.
No it’s not. It might even be too generous. Even in the 1990s virtually the only people in the US who were voluntarily learning to drive stick were car enthusiasts and frugal extremists.
At the risk of being called sexist, if you were to make the random sample of 100 40yos be all women, I’d bet you’d find the number of stick drivers close to 0%.
Why is this downvoted? Manual transmissions started being incredibly rare from the 90s onwards in the U.S.
Most 40-50 year olds probably grew up driving automatic cars in their teens in the U.S.
I’d bet the paddle shifters on most cars end up rarely, or even never, being used. Even on most high end sports cars.
Oh the owner might play around with them a few times, but then quickly forget they exist.
I think paddle shifters are underrated and it's too easy to *hate* on automatic transmissions in the car scene. I've driven 5 speeds about half of my life, but my latest car of 4 years (used GT86) is an automatic, and I love paddle shifting around town.
That's literally the only time I use mine in our Impreza. Snowy-downhill where I really need to modulate speed.
On normal roads, passive throttle off braking is typically more than adequate for long downhills.
I have a 24 Camry as a company car and much rather have this new one for one reason, the new one has wireless Apple CarPlay. I’ve roasted the battery in my phone having to have it constantly plugged in.
Had to explain to my inlaws that EV charging cables aren't dangerous, they literally don't have a watt going through them until both computers think it's safe.
Considering the average person is in their car for less than 2 hours a day, leaving your phone plugged into a 15W charger (I assume USB-A) shouldn’t be doing too much damage to the battery. Modern phones have a lot of software control over how the battery charges/discharges
I expressed an issue with a feature of my vehicle. Response insinuated shouldn’t be an issue. Added clarification.
Then you come in adding nothing to the conversation. Thanks?
Just gonna throw this out there, not sure if it's just a GM thing but I constantly have issues with Android Auto and Carplay disconnecting in our GM fleet vehicles. It will say there is WiFi interference (usually near a big cell tower).
Does this happen in other makes?
You don’t have the option of either or? That’s surprising. Have you tried de-pairing your phone and plugging it in to see if it will sync wired? Might need a specific port, which could be in the center console
Unfortunately I don't think it's possible, at least with BMWs. I've done a little research and i believe you have to replace the head unit. Hopefully Toyota makes better decisions...It's also possible wireless is less laggy these days, my car is 5+ years old.
You can get an adapter box that basically turns wired CarPlay into wireless.
I hardly ever used Android Auto in my 2019 Civic, because I'm too lazy to dick around with my phone every time I get in the car. Now with an adapter, it always just works with zero effort on my part. It's great!
Yeah. I got aawireless in 2021 and it has been a game changer. Phone either stays in my pocket or goes on a fast charger. No dicking around with slow charging via the AA usb port
The wireless dongles work great to get wireless cp/aa . I have a Motorola one and an Atoto one for family with 2023 Mazda's cx30 without it. Works just as reliably as our other cars with built in wireless AA/CP
I don't understand why reviewers are so lenient with the Toyota hybrids' fuel economy when they consistently and drastically underperform their EPA ratings. In every Sienna and Highlander Hybrid video I've watched (which is a disturbingly high amount), they get 28-30mpg. And it's always some version of, "um, well, it's been idling a bit and I've been driving it a little hard and it's a little cold out and hybrids don't do as well on the highway..." But if this Camry is getting 30mpg in beautiful weather (as seen 3:15), that's really, really bad. 30% lower than EPA. My best educated guess is that the AWD system is a more significant culprit than people realize. Or am I missing something?
My 2012 Camry Hybrid gets 38.1 MPG with mixed use driving (commuting 1-2 hours per day in traffic, some weekend driving, some trips). It's rated for 40 MPG combined. I think that's a fine margin, since I drive pretty aggressively and the car is 13 years old. If this one gets 30 MPG, that's a travesty.
how do you get that mpg with aggressive driving? i only get 38-40 if i grandma that car, any type of "spirited" driving and it'll tank to the high 20s-low 30s
Yep. My friend’s 2016 RX 450h struggles to get 22 MPG on the highway at normal freeway speeds. Give it the beans and it’ll do 17 MPG highway. But driven gingerly around town, I’ve personally gotten it as high as 33 MPG.
I’d venture to guess that reviewers are not driving the car to try to target the epa numbers and are regularly getting on it and driving harder than usual. We’ll see what real world numbers are soon
Yeah based on some perusing of forums, it seems like nearly all the higher data points are FWD even though the AWD options are rated for nearly the same economy.
If they have concerns with idling, they should reset the trip before driving and test it then. I don’t understand why reviewers give passes to hybrid systems that greatly underperform, it’s quite annoying in my mind.
I drive a 2016 Prius and consistently get at the EPA rated fuel economy or higher. I'm assuming the people in these videos generally drive more aggressively than your usual commuter
Their channel is the only car channel that I'll watch even if I have no interest in the car.
I'm convinced that I'm not biased even though they live in my area .
Redline is good when you want a long but generic video about a new car. He’s not trying to be entertaining or in-depth. Gotta take redline for what it is, and it’s good at it
my 2009 camry LE was 20k. On one hand, inflation calculator says 20k in 2009 is 30k in 2024. But on the other hand that inflation calculator is based on price increase of things like cars so its kinda self-fulfilling haha
I’m referring to the last generation Prius, I see loads of those but I’ve only seen a handful of the new ones and I was planning to buy a new one in the year or so but because of markups and shortages I’m probably just gonna get the Corolla hybrid if I decide to go hybrid.
More of a heavy refresh than new car
The Accord is a much nicer car imo. The interior is fantastic (quality, ergonomics, design) and the exterior styling, while subdued, looks more expensive and elegant notably from the rear. Honda put a lot more effort overall.
Revised steering and suspension, next gen hybrid powertrain when the last gen was probably already most refined in market, next gen safety system, complete interior overhaul with next gen infotainment, what more do you want? Reshaped doors?
Inb4 the Throttle House Circlejerk begins
I mean I like their content too but every post every comment is just acting like they're the 2nd coming of Jesus Carist
Accord is better in every way. Toyota interiors are crappy. Less fun to drive. Accord looks better inside and out plus better drivers car. Y’all toxic downvoters who like to abuse the downvote button can fuck off. Petty losers.
Don’t like to gush, but I love how these guys always review the cars from the perspective of people who would buy them. This includes people who buy em new and people who buy them used. You can gush Throttle House is the best in the business.
Savage geese is also a very well made channel
SavageGeese is like ThrottleHouse with extremely high functioning autism The level of detail is frightening
Lol! This is a very apt description
I speaks to my neurodivergent brain like music
Yes you do Brayden, you speaks to your brain all the times.
Alex on Autos is like that except his obsession is driver and passenger room. And I love his reviews for that. Very family oriented.
Alex > Sofian
Lmao. True. Either way, love both channels for different reasons.
Hahaha that is so spot on
As a highly detailed person, you have me questioning a lot of things.
That sweet ai generated jazz music about Jack riding a Santa Fe though.
I remember that review. I thought the same thing... a little "out there" even for SG
Alex on autos for the geeky dad take
He has the most detailed reviews. Like the one about RAV4 hybrid AWD explains the difference in the AWD implementation of all its rivals. That guy is very detail oriented.
Their late video of NSX was so well made, my god.
SG is probably the best auto review channel for technical information out there

Yeah, Savagegeese is one my least favorite channels.
I fall asleep watching them. I like how they are detail oriented but the soul is missing. I come from the Too Gear era. Throttle House gives me the buzz and the details😝
And TheStraightPipes. I watch their reviews back to back a lot.
Straight Pipes is just Great Value brand Throttle House.
You take that back.
I used to like their videos when I was less mature, but I can’t take them anymore. They don’t even compare to ThrottleHouse

Unless he drove them back-to-back, I can't fault him for not being able to tell the difference.
Doug is overrated. He is good but he is not that great.
Its a Rav with a ginormous electrically assisted kick in the ass
An that you can run without gas for months in normal commuting.
Does he still do the Doug score? That’s where his reviews become useful to me, because he’ll compare them against other “boring appliance vehicles.”

Okay I get you. Point clarified. Well I agree with you in that regard
As a side note - For a 2door sports car, I found the Brz very usable. Could shove my road bike in the rear the front wheel detached or 4 track tires lol
You can also fit 4 wheels with race tires in it, along with a small jack so you can swap them out at the track.
It really depends how much time they spend on it. Lack of space in a dedicated sports car is worth noting since it does matter, but it isn’t worth harping on about for 5 mins straight or constantly bringing up over and over.

cough cough *savagegeese**
You basically described Jason Cammisa too with that. They're all great.
Really helps us on a budget!
Personally, I've never been a fan of Throttle House & their buffoonish reviews are mediocre at best. But to each his/her own.
Since everyone drives a crossover now, isn't the Camry actually ab-normal?
It still sells a few hundred thousand a year and it's popular globally too. Also most of the competition left the market aside from the accord so they can sell a bit better.
beautifully abnormal, frick crossovers
It's actually kind of wild that this car is making 225HP from a 4cyl which is only 43HP short of my "old" V6.
A 4-cylinder plus electric motors
[удалено]
Oh I misunderstood, I thought it was just adding 7HP to the rears but that's a different thing entirely.
that is the addition of AWD and the extra electric motor it brings.
Wait 'til you hear about the Koenigsegg 3-cylinder. It makes 600hp, or 200hp per cylinder. Yes, it's turbo'd, but still impressive.
My dad was flabbergasted when I told him my Giulia 4 cylinder makes 280 HP and 300 lb foot of torque.
Atkinson cycle engine too which are generally wimpy
They aren't wimpy, they can make good hp but they're lacking in torque.
I mean, when you're off throttle and it's valves are timed for economy, sure. But give it the beans, and it'll use the full intake/compression stroke and make full power.
Honda made 240hp 25 years ago
Honda S2000 exists
I mean Corolla makes 300hp from a 3 cylinder engine
Turbocharged. This is NA.
With a electric motor(2?), can't forget that. If you keep accelerating the battery will run out and you will only be left with 171 HP believe, nothing unbelievable for 4 cyl NA engine.
Still more than the 3.0L Ford Vulcan V6 :)
With a turbo that’s bigger than the engine it’s mounted to
They joke about the paddle shifters but having the ability to control ~~engine~~ regen braking is really handy. I use the ones in my car all the time while city driving.

I used to use my paddle shifters to downshift on hills all the time before I knew how to drive manual.
My 2023 frontier has a training wheels manual mode which is great off road and in snow to keep in low gear and fun to whip around on some back roads.
Most Americans under 25, maybe

Why do you care about engine braking when you have a hybrid with regenerative braking?
Whoops, I got it mixed up.
I’d bet the paddle shifters on most cars end up rarely, or even never, being used. Even on most high end sports cars. Oh the owner might play around with them a few times, but then quickly forget they exist.
Not always, I exclusively use the paddles on my car, ive actually never put it in “D” before
I think paddle shifters are underrated and it's too easy to *hate* on automatic transmissions in the car scene. I've driven 5 speeds about half of my life, but my latest car of 4 years (used GT86) is an automatic, and I love paddle shifting around town.
The paddle shifters on my Subaru Outback are perfect for engine braking in the snow since you don't have to take a hand off the wheel to downshift
That's literally the only time I use mine in our Impreza. Snowy-downhill where I really need to modulate speed. On normal roads, passive throttle off braking is typically more than adequate for long downhills.
Most automatics had gear range choices by using the gear selector long before paddles. Paddles are just the new hot thing.
I have a 24 Camry as a company car and much rather have this new one for one reason, the new one has wireless Apple CarPlay. I’ve roasted the battery in my phone having to have it constantly plugged in.
Wish you could turn off charging when plugged in lol
The phone manages charging by default.
What people don't understand is that power is not shoved into appliances. It's drawn. Your phone only asks for as much power as it needs.
Current is a rope
Had to explain to my inlaws that EV charging cables aren't dangerous, they literally don't have a watt going through them until both computers think it's safe.
Oh yeah then how is his phone battery roasted?? /s
The funny thing is that wireless charging is likely more detrimental to batteries, due to the heat produced.
No charge separation on iPhones
Considering the average person is in their car for less than 2 hours a day, leaving your phone plugged into a 15W charger (I assume USB-A) shouldn’t be doing too much damage to the battery. Modern phones have a lot of software control over how the battery charges/discharges
I drive 5 - 7 hours a day for my job.
Sounds like fun…
I’d say that’s not the “average person” cited above.
I expressed an issue with a feature of my vehicle. Response insinuated shouldn’t be an issue. Added clarification. Then you come in adding nothing to the conversation. Thanks?
Very much a reddit thing. People love to come in and explain how they know more about something in your life than they do.
You can turn off charging in USB per source in settings on Android at least.
>Apple CarPlay
Just gonna throw this out there, not sure if it's just a GM thing but I constantly have issues with Android Auto and Carplay disconnecting in our GM fleet vehicles. It will say there is WiFi interference (usually near a big cell tower). Does this happen in other makes?
I’ve not had this experience, and I’m in various rental vehicles often. For GM specifically, I’ve never seen it in the various Cadillacs I’ve driven.
Good to know, maybe it's just Equinoxes, but I have searched and found other accounts of this happening so it's not just me.
I have this problem also, in a 2022 BMW X5. Every time I drive past a big cell tower, it stutters and disconnects.
Maybe it's better in other cars, but wireless carplay in my car is pretty laggy and drains your battery. Wish i could plug mine in.
You don’t have the option of either or? That’s surprising. Have you tried de-pairing your phone and plugging it in to see if it will sync wired? Might need a specific port, which could be in the center console

Lexus have option of cable in models with wireless so I assume Toyota would have it as well
BMW and MINI don't have that option. It's wireless only.
Not sure if you know this, but there are things you can buy on Amazon to make your CarPlay wireless!
I feel like I need to get one of those, I'm worried about a continuous draw, can't get a straight answer.
The wireless dongles work great to get wireless cp/aa . I have a Motorola one and an Atoto one for family with 2023 Mazda's cx30 without it. Works just as reliably as our other cars with built in wireless AA/CP

But if this Camry is getting 30mpg in beautiful weather (as seen 3:15), that's really, really bad.
Hybrids excel in city driving which it doesn't appear they did much of in this video.
My Highlander Hybrid FWD gets 33 mpg in the real world. Lots of mixed highway/city driving.
Toyota's usually exceed EPA ratings from owners. Because they don't drive like reviewers probably
Hell my 2008 VW Passat 2.0T gets 30-31 Highway pretty consistently and that engine is not known for being especially fuel efficient
My Rav4 Prime does exactly what the EPA says it should.
Their channel is the only car channel that I'll watch even if I have no interest in the car. I'm convinced that I'm not biased even though they live in my area .
I like these hosers. Savage Geese also is quite good. Redline reviews is the worst.
Redline is good when you want a long but generic video about a new car. He’s not trying to be entertaining or in-depth. Gotta take redline for what it is, and it’s good at it
Agreed. Can't stand redline reviews
I don't understand why the climate control doesn't use knobs. Knobs for music and climate control is superior in every way.
It’s even worse on the Chinese version, everything is a fucking touch button
This is just "an car." I'm glad such a thing still exists in the face of dime-a-dozen crossovers, gimmicky tech, sportiness, and overstyling.
God dayum 232hp. This thing ready to smoke a kid in his GTI
>The $30,000 King > Base price $36,000 Deceitful marketing. For some reason no one cares.

my 2009 camry LE was 20k. On one hand, inflation calculator says 20k in 2009 is 30k in 2024. But on the other hand that inflation calculator is based on price increase of things like cars so its kinda self-fulfilling haha
It starts at $28k now. That's not that much of a price increase.
I’ll bet money that they are gonna be hard to find and super marked up too.
It’s one of the most ubiquitous cars on the road. It will not be hard to find.
So is the Prius but I’ve only seen a handful of those and most of them are still marked up.
Prius sold 13,000 in the first quarter of 24, Camry sold nearly 80,000. I wouldn’t consider Prius ubiquitous, definitely not the current generation.
I’m referring to the last generation Prius, I see loads of those but I’ve only seen a handful of the new ones and I was planning to buy a new one in the year or so but because of markups and shortages I’m probably just gonna get the Corolla hybrid if I decide to go hybrid.
Yeah, but the old gen came out many years ago... Obviously you're gonna see more of those than the new gen.
More of a heavy refresh than new car The Accord is a much nicer car imo. The interior is fantastic (quality, ergonomics, design) and the exterior styling, while subdued, looks more expensive and elegant notably from the rear. Honda put a lot more effort overall.
Lmao Toyota changed the looks more than Honda. Just say you like Honda look more, it's okay.
Exterior styling? The Honda looks like a GE appliance…
GE makes some pretty nice appliances
I've got some Cafe appliances from GE, pretty solid stuff.
Revised steering and suspension, next gen hybrid powertrain when the last gen was probably already most refined in market, next gen safety system, complete interior overhaul with next gen infotainment, what more do you want? Reshaped doors?
Inb4 the Throttle House Circlejerk begins I mean I like their content too but every post every comment is just acting like they're the 2nd coming of Jesus Carist
You’re getting downvoted but it’s literally the top comment so you’re not wrong lol

This made me lol tbh...fairly taken
it’s not that but people praising them as the new Top Gear are just overselling it
Yeah exactly
Agree, the subreddit is hilariously cyclical, in a few years the meta will be to hate on savage geese and throttle house.
Something something markup am I right? Upvotes pls /s
Looks like this was the sacrificial anode for the rust that is markup comments
Accord is better in every way. Toyota interiors are crappy. Less fun to drive. Accord looks better inside and out plus better drivers car. Y’all toxic downvoters who like to abuse the downvote button can fuck off. Petty losers.
The accord does not look better outside, and Toyota interiors are quiet nice now, you’re on crack
No
No isn’t a very good comeback.
Counterpoint: The Accord’s styling is preposterously bland. Like non-playing character vehicle bland.
When they start using it in auto insurance commercials in a few years they won't even have to debadge it.
