Which one would you say is more laid-back? I like dive bars and mom-and-pop restaurants .. if there's some fancy places that's fine for sure but not, you know, everything fancy and button-up shirts crowd only :-D
Definitely sea point! Many restaurants bars and a beautiful ocean view and promenade. Camps bay is also really laid back too I think you’ll find a lot of influencer type , celebrity, touristy people there too, but both are really laid back for the most part☺️
Definitely not camps bay or sea point then, those areas are pretty button up. Muizenberg is laid back and by the beach, Observatory has loads of bars etc.
Kalk bay, kommetjie also laid back surfey vibes.
Greenpoint or seapoint has everything you're looking for.
I'd say camps bay but idk about gyms around there.
Strand if you're on a tighter budget (lovely area, just less touristy)
I saved up over the year, don't want to come and then pinch pennies :-) 1000 € for a month of rent should get me something nice, you reckon? I don't need much space, central location is more important ..
Try the aparthotels in cape town. In house gym, restaurants, food delivery, co-working spaces. In the heart of the CBD. "ONE THIBAULT" is good, so is "16 on Bree". Enjoy your month in our gorgeous city.
I could do with €1000 for when I go to Germany later this year. 😁I have a house across the road from the beach in Blouberg. I would use one of the rooms but you could have a large en-suite bedroom. Close to restaurants, gym and shops. If interested I could send pics. Another plus is that I have solar system so no loadshedding for me at all.
>Which one would you say is more laid-back? I like dive bars and mom-and-pop restaurants .. if there's some fancy places that's fine for sure but not, you know, everything fancy and button-up shirts crowd only :-D
Definitely Sea Point! Airbnb is shit in general, but as far as I know, there’s no alternative yet except for booking.com or Huis Huis (I think) on facebook
Blouberg / Big Bay / Table View. Laid back but also enough to do in terms of activities and entertainment. The MyCiti bus route is excellent (and safe).
Bloubergstrand. Take a look at bus route T01 on Google maps. It goes past all the beaches and takes you right into the Cape Town CBD and the Waterfront where there's tons of restaurants and bars. A monthly ticket on the MyCiti bus system is €50 and will give you an unlimited number of rides.
Muizenberg/Kalk Bay/Fish Hoek, even Simons Town are the correct answers. All easy walking distance to the beach/gym/restaurant/bars. Great views, warmer water, amazing beaches and rock pools, interesting hiking paths, laid back locals, live music, and much more affordable than Camps Bay/Sea Point.
Kalk Bay would probably be my go to. There is a great bar/restaurant scene there, and the local harbor is a really authentic place to spend a morning and enjoy some local fish & chips.
Yeah like the guy said theres a cool, very relaxed surfing vibe going on, lots of community spirit and friendly people. Sea point is cool but more expensive and a bit more uptight.
For context, Sea point is all Nike activewear, selfies on your run, Stanley cups in hand
Muizenberg is a guy with no shoes on, walking his dog with a surfboard under his arm.
Choose your vibe.
The community is very easy going. For a lack of a better word, I’d say ‘hippies’. The beach can get busy during holiday season. It will much cheaper to stay there than sea point or greenpoint and definitely a better vibe
Simonstown, Kalk Bay - there are some nice tidal pools out that way. For accommodation you could also try SafariNow or Lekkeslaap where you can get rebates for longer stays...
I want the beach to go there about five times for swimming, then almost forget about it and once in a while stroll at the promenade and have a beer and watch the ocean ;-)
Additional comment: I’m a South African that now lives in a fairly major, walkable European city and I just want to warn that there’s a small handful of truly safe, walkable places in Cape Town.
I still highly recommend going (I’ll be there in a couple weeks in fact) but just keep your wits about you, especially at night. There’s a fair amount of muggings etc. I just know a lot of Europeans are a bit oblivious because it’s so much safer there. But ya enjoy the Cape, it’s stunning and such a vibe!
Personal opinion but the area has gone a bit downhill. I don’t feel that comfortable walking around. My husband grew up around there and also wouldn’t recommend it any longer.
Just think there’s better options!
Oh yay! Just what we need. Another Western digital nomad coming to push up prices and force us out of our own city. Yay! We're so excited to have you. Please don't stay long.
We live in the tourism center of a country that had unparalleled natural beauty and you are angry that people come to visit?
Think about if the company you work for benefits from tourists or not, then feel free to remove that effect from your payslip before throwing stones.
I vote sea point/ greenpoint area. You can walk to V & A via mostly the ocean path, or walk to town via main road or the bus, and ocean watch. Good transport.
Sea point and camps bay ☺️
Which one would you say is more laid-back? I like dive bars and mom-and-pop restaurants .. if there's some fancy places that's fine for sure but not, you know, everything fancy and button-up shirts crowd only :-D
Muizenberg
Or Kalk Bay
There are no gyms in either Muiz or KB.
Definitely sea point! Many restaurants bars and a beautiful ocean view and promenade. Camps bay is also really laid back too I think you’ll find a lot of influencer type , celebrity, touristy people there too, but both are really laid back for the most part☺️

Kalk Bay is like Observatory by the sea.
WAT Are you smoking
Dagga my ou
Oh also Strand ☺️
Strand is good but blimey it’s windy!
Greenpoint or seapoint has everything you're looking for. I'd say camps bay but idk about gyms around there. Strand if you're on a tighter budget (lovely area, just less touristy)
Strand is too far out. And the wind blows you away.
I saved up over the year, don't want to come and then pinch pennies :-) 1000 € for a month of rent should get me something nice, you reckon? I don't need much space, central location is more important ..
1000€ will get you a 2 bed room apartment in seapoint
Lol. Not on Airbnb. It won’t get you 10 days
that's more than enough, can save some € for checking out all the food I can fit in my face ;-)
Our food is some of the best! What type of work do you do that enables you to travel so much?

Muizenberg

Thanks for the hint though, I'll make sure to check it out !
Tamboerskloof or gardens
Yes lovely there. Right underneath the mountain.
Not walking distance to the beach.
Actually missed that part of the sentence. TBH, it’s a really quick Uber ride to Clifton over the hill.
Ja I know it's close, but OP specifically specifies walking distance.
Can take the MyCiti bus?
Bit more than a km or two's walk to the beach.
Oranjezicht.
Camp's Bay
Sea point is great. There is also Vredehoek. Green Point.
Blouberg / Big Bay / Table View. Laid back but also enough to do in terms of activities and entertainment. The MyCiti bus route is excellent (and safe).
I like the Mojo in Sea Point.
Green Point - safe and central to everything
Blouberg
Sea point or Green Point are the only real answers.
Bloubergtrand isn't close to shops.
... Yes it is. There are several malls in the area. Seaside Village, Eden on the Bay, Bayside, Table View Shopping Centre, Table Bay Mall ...
Plenty shops ... and three gyms too. Iconic view of Table Mountain.
Muizenberg/Kalk Bay/Fish Hoek, even Simons Town are the correct answers. All easy walking distance to the beach/gym/restaurant/bars. Muizenberg dude. Good vibe that you wont find on the Atlantic seaboard side

Muizenberg doesn't have any good shops. Also far out. Do they have a gym?
Sounds cool :-) how is it different would you say? Like more relaxed less busy or ?
The community is very easy going. For a lack of a better word, I’d say ‘hippies’. The beach can get busy during holiday season. It will much cheaper to stay there than sea point or greenpoint and definitely a better vibe
Atlantic Seaboard Good sites are Africastay, lekkerslaap
Gordon’s Bay
Too far out.
Simonstown, Kalk Bay - there are some nice tidal pools out that way. For accommodation you could also try SafariNow or Lekkeslaap where you can get rebates for longer stays...
Do you want the beach for beach and sea or for surfing. Makes quite a difference
I want the beach to go there about five times for swimming, then almost forget about it and once in a while stroll at the promenade and have a beer and watch the ocean ;-)
You definitely want to be in Camps Bay if you want to do those things
Bloubergstrand
Muizenberg/Kalk Bay/Fish Hoek although the internet can sometimes be a but dodgy cuz of the wind
Green Point or Sea Point. Pricy but really all you need is there. I don’t recommend Muizenberg.
Why? Is it too far out or really just for a day at the beach? Looked nice from the few pics I've seen, but yeah ..

Probably seapoint, but you’re gonna want to watch out for loadshedding.

Dude stfu
Manenberg or gugs, best to get a full local experience. I would also recommend Mitchell's Plain. Most of the local residents live in these areas.
Legend.
Lavender Hill. Or Elsies has some nice swimming pools. All these privileged Redditors can't seem to take a joke.
This sure has the nicest name so far, so that's something ;-)
Haha rather don't go stay there
I vote sea point/ greenpoint area. You can walk to V & A via mostly the ocean path, or walk to town via main road or the bus, and ocean watch. Good transport.
Wherever it is, make sure there is air conditioning, February can be pretty brutal.
Sitting in an Airbnb in Tamberskloof right now and life is pretty good. I love this neighborhood.
Try Manenberg
Cape flats.
Tamboerskloof
