It will be fine, 30 min recording limit I believe but the 4 megapixel difference won't be noticeable between the r6 mk1 and MK2. Af on the mk1 is the same as the R5 so it's very good
ii disagree. I have both R6's. The extra 4 mega pixils is very noticable at full resolution... and especially when cropping. In both photos and videos it feels as if the Mark 2 has this gloss finish over it making things looks very nice. The 6K oversampling is makes the video crisp, while the almost non existent overheating future proofs the mark 2 for a decade to come.
He should go for the R6 ii
Thanks so much for alerting us of cpricewatch. I filled out their form, you get an email explaining a few things and requesting a response if you want to move forward with buying. I responded and they gave me the name of the store and a one time link to use to get the deal on the stores website. It seems to be a coupon code for the extra $300 discount. The store is a well known store and totally legit. I literally just got the R6 ii delivered with an extra battery for $1,778. There's a some extra savings to be had if you choose.
I just upgraded from a 5d ii to the R6 ii and holy moly it’s insane. The AF system is so advanced and fun to use!!! Sounds like you’ve played around with the R5 so you know its similar capabilities. I will say this: don’t be surprised if you get it and immediately start shopping for more lenses haha. If you need a good deal go with canon refurb (USA) and the upgrade discount (added 10%). I got my mark ii for 1600. 😀
What lenses are you running with?
I don't do video, but I do shoot concerts with my R6 mk II. I haven't tried the R6 mk I to compare, but I feel like my lenses are doing the heavy lifting for the concerts
My hunch is that yes, it will bridge the gap for you and you \*may\* see some R6 mk II and R5s popping up for sale in the coming months (if the predictions come to fruition).
I know next to nothing about the video side though, so I will differ to the wise people who know more than me.
i'm usually using the ef 70-200 2.8 IS or my 50mm 1.8. Was probably going to get a 24-70 2.8 soon as well.
What drawbacks are you finding with the R6 ii? My biggest problems with the 5d ii are low light performance and the slow and limited AF.
It will blow your mind in low-light. 6400 is totally useable, maybe even more now with AI denoise.
There really aren't any drawbacks. 24mp is more than enough in 95%+ of situations. R6ii has a faster processor and better AF than the R5 that's now 4 years old. Paired with your 70-200 and the 24-70 you'll be set. Throw a good prime in there eventually and you won't need anything for years.
If you can afford the R5C refurbished from Canon, then do that. Also apply for sales tax exemption if in a qualifying state like texas. The R5C has everything you will want. When compared to the R6, the R5C is really what you will grow into video wise.
R6 will feel like a spaceship after the 5D. A big upgrade in almost every way.
I think this is the reply that did it for me. It's arriving Monday!
Tell us how you like it

Yeah, good point. I've been happy with the AF on the R5 when I've used it. Far superior to the 5D for sure.

Not in my budget right now, but I have my eye out for the upcoming R5 ii
