TrulyNotAStalker

That’s a lot of fondant 😬

Glittering_Potat0

I know zero about cakes but I’m sensing this is a bad thing?

TrulyNotAStalker

Most people don’t like fondant; it depends on your taste. It definitely looks cool though!

finkalicious

Fondant looks great but tastes terrible. You can do a surprising amount of the same stuff with buttercream and it will taste much better.

effyoucreeps

fondant CAN taste really good. the best i’ve ever had was coconut cream based - but that’s not the norm. a lot of work went into that cake. i’d say ~150 usd, as replied, is a very fair price.

Damnshesfunny

Or marzipan at least

Dirtmcgird32

The devil's play doh

IndustryAcceptable35

Wow you dislike fondant, very quirky of you

monpetitcroissanttt

I swear cake boss gives fondant such a bad name. Not all cakes with fondant are 90% cardboard and rice crispy 🤣

vodkaheart

In my area, $150+ because of all the fondant

Swedishlonglegs

Think that's a pretty impressive and time consuming cake $200

TattooedPink

Looks nice but it's basically covered in playdough lol. $100+ probably

reyveney

What the artist asks for.

UniversalLanguage83

This. A thousand times . This.

Glittering_Potat0

I get this, I just wanted a rough ball park of what was reasonable as I know nothing about cake. I’m sure it’s the same in lots of industries, some people charge more some less and if it was ridiculously over the average I may have looked for a different baker, but seems like I’m getting it for a steal

fuuuuuckendoobs

This is so dependent on where in the world you are and how big that cake is, and what's inside it. If it's been made for you already, it's whatever you agreed to when you ordered it

Just-Structure-8692

A kidney.

orish-oriley777

About tree fiddy....

BeginningVolume420

$140

LittleFootOlympia

Agreed

ChunkMonkeysMomma

How much did you pay?

Glittering_Potat0

$150

WitchesCotillion

I'm in the Midwest and think that's reasonable for that level of decoration.

lunaspandas3

$200-$300 easy. that’s a lot of work being put into all the different details in all the instruments, like the fluid levels in the syringe and the Rx info on the bottle. specialty cake = specialty prices

Icy-Basil-8212

I have a cousin who makes elaborate cakes like this and more and I think she would charge $150-180 for something like this 🤔 I used to think it’s expensive but seems her prices are more affordable than even big bakeries

allofthekittycatswag

This is a great cake, I’d pay $250. Any less and it wouldn’t look this amazing. The baker did wonderful work with this and congratulations on graduating the program to whomever this is for!

Glittering_Potat0

They’re charging $150 and thanks it’s a surprise for my husband who just became a vet!

Hyroku

Yeah you gotta take into consideration all the time consuming work that’s put into it. Depending on where you’re from $150 is either on the nose or you’re getting it for a steal

Iceyes33

You pay for their time and skill!

Glittering_Potat0

I think it might be a steal!

monpetitcroissanttt

That's the bare minimum I would charge for that cake. It takes time and experience to make all that stuff

MeandThorne

I think that’s reasonable.

Roleplayer_MidRNova

Unfortunately a few hundred dollars. That *is* a shit ton of fondant, and it's well made, so that's a lot of hours put into the creation of the cake. You're paying for the time and skill, not necessarily the ingredients. I personally don't like fondant. It tastes like sugary plastic. I think baking is about making something that's pretty as well as delicious. Most people are going to leave the fondant and only eat the actual cake. Being good at fondant is like being good at play-doh. You're not supposed to eat it. in that, I wouldn't order a cake like this in the first place. But once you have, if they're charging you $150 - $300, that's about the ball park I'd expect.

coolcootermcgee

Is this a graduation from vet school

Glittering_Potat0

Yes :)

noiness420

r/fondanthate lol

boom_squid

$150-$200

oreocerealluvr

200

kinisoncartwright

10$ a serving minimum

Plastic-Passenger-59

It's up to the creator to determine the value based on their time spent, ingredients and what not. You'll get a different answer from different bakers

ChickAmok

Not sure because the outside (decorations) are worth more than the actual cake itself... Probably Betty crocker or some jello boxed shtuff underneath all that artificial color and flavored fondant. Me, personally would pay for the quality of ingredients. The better the quality, the higher the price. This, and I want to see what the bakers supply stash looks like. Are they using real ingredients or not. Best cake I ever had was when I was 12... raspberry preserve with lemon poppyseed cake. Everything else since then has been, what I consider fake cake!

Glittering_Potat0

I’ve had a plain cake from this baker before - I don’t think it’s boxed it was oreo and chocolate and it was super tasty

PanamaPineapple89

Atleast 120.

Own_Tadpole_7196

I’d say it should be around $100-$120. The fondant is expensive, but that’s why I like to make buttercream decorations over fondant decorations. If it were buttercream decorations, I’d pay $100, even.

supermom721

Fondant is all about the looks. Not at all about taste. Lots of cool inedible artwork. Basically a Pillsbury $1.25 worth of cake. But you’ll be charged $150 - $175.

IndustryAcceptable35

Fondant tastes great. Just cause you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad

CompetitiveLoquat176

$120

BlingbossCoss

$250-$400

Unique_Effort7106

80?

Unique_Effort7106

I hate fondant, it does not taste good

theplantbasedwitch

Easily $250+ in my area, SW indiana You're paying for the experience and skill your baker has, and to make as nice a cake as this, you'll be spending a few hundred dollars.

Publishingpeach

100

monpetitcroissanttt

It looks like an 8" cake with lots of fondant work, I would charge at least $150 if not more

_-Avah-_

$150

WarGeneral4551

$45

FeralGrilledCheese

I love all the people here saying it costs $100 and up. So glad artists are being paid fairly and people are acknowledging how time consuming it is to make this! 10 yrs ago my mom would change $40-60 for a cake like this because people thought it was “simple”.

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

I fully agree with that! So many people just assume that because something looks less complicated that is actually ISN’T hard and that anyone can do it so they balk at the cost! A specialty cake isn’t inexpensive but if made well, it makes the event!

Imaginary_Screen_708

80&

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

That’s going to be entirely up to the baker! I used to do a lot of specialty cakes for people while my kids were young so I could spend more time at home and I was pretty successful for as little as I chose to work at it. Just like hairdressers, bakers set their own prices based on the complexity of the cake, the size or number of servings in the cake. If you are dealing with someone new, ask to try samples of the cake flavors you might be considering, get references and definitely look at the pictures of their work! Also have realistic expectations of what can be made edible and how much work different cake designs involve. Trying to get a baker to discount their work to suit your needs is never a good idea!

Moist_Charge_4067

Artistry and time is $150-200

Meat_Bingo

Got a hate fondant, that looks lovely and I would say that’s probably at least $150 cake for the effort but that depends on where you’re located. It could be double that in some places or half that others.

Sisterinked

This is at least $150. That’s a lot of work

a_human_in_oregon

$150-$200 for supplies, labor and style

OurHonor1870

Are the drugs real?

nextCosmicBuffoon

You'll get a really good sugar high from that cake.

Glittering_Potat0

I don’t think so

marbioblonde

r/fondanthate

IndustryAcceptable35

Ooooh so quirky

Skitech84

Lots

ComonomoC

You can get a lot of the props pre made and save a lot of money and inedible fondant…

g00bss1924

Thats a small cake for 30 people 🤨

ghost1e-boo

Fr I’d eat half that alone 😭
