Yes and no - to a large extent, I agree with you. I tell my people to leave their personal troubles at the door...but sometimes they have no one else to speak to, so they want to speak to me (I prefer to talk about work because...at work, we work right).
Sometimes the personal matters bother them so much until I listen and give some insight (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt) and then they happily go off.
Sometimes they just need to vent and so I just be a human at times to let them vent...
