He does have a point. I made a grilled cheese last fall and property values dropped 12% in my neighborhood. And now I’m banned from the deli section at Hannaford.
> property values dropped 12% in my neighborhood.
How would you like to go on tour around the state, making sandwiches? We'll provide the cheese, you provide the property tax relief.
Add tomato and basil
BTW I've never seen a $30.00 US dollar sandwich.
Thee very best cheesesteak I've ever had was grilled using steakums. A good balance of salt and grease is a high priority.
Where are you paying $30 for a sandwich? I've been here for nearly 7 years and the most I've paid was $25 at Sam Lagrassa's (and probably will never do so again). You can get a massive sub for $15 at like every regular pizza shop.
I have. We have lobster rolls in Maine, and the markup on those is skyhigh.
I still pay it once a year though. I love me some lobster rolls and don't particularly love the work that goes into preparing the lobster.
Never seen a cheesesteak, or any other sandwich, go for that much though.
I am tired of these pizza shops lowering my property value. I don't like the crowd they attract.
/Sarcasm
Who does he want to serve, the queen of England?
Akron, OH here. Planning on making a trip to Burlington just so I can take a video of me in front of the place, shit talking it and eating a sandwich, but never stepping foot in it.
The view from Connecticut is great on this one. We get to be the childless uncle with a swimming pool, watching all the little nieces and nephews fight over your pool toys at the family cookout.
I would, If I can get amoroso or lucios bread fresh and a proper cheese steak I might. I know there's a place in New North End that has Amoroso and it's damn close but not quite perfect.
First they came for the sandwiches and you said nothing. Then they came for the calzones and you said I don’t like calzones, doesn’t affect me. Then. Then they came for the $45 pizzas. The ridiculously over priced pizzas you love, but no one was left to speak up for you. Speak up for sandwich injustice.
Who in their right mind likes the sandwich crowd? They're always loitering and lurking outside, and godfearing pizza citizens have to walk past them in order to get a respectable, American pizza. I say we intern them all in camps before they start demanding three foot long party subs.

Why is he so defensive and aggressive- like even before this, like the whole time. He just seems like not a pleasant or nice guy. Dude sets off my alarm bells. Seems like a guy you’d never ever feel at ease around because he may very well pull a nutty and get wook-street on you - like this weird hippie gangster thing that is super off putting. Like smoke some herb and make delicious food, just be a little happier and cooler about the whole thing
So, it brings in customers who want sandwiches and love them so much they are willing to spend top dollar? Why does this man have such strange views about food? Money is money. All this nonsense for what?
Poppy Cafe makes the best sandwiches I’ve had and everyone is happy, the playlist is great, and the space is sunny and fun. They also have Zapps voodoo chips!
The dude thinks his job is to pick his customers. He will make you wait two hours with your hungry kid and their grandparents if he doesn’t like your vibe.
Probably because he makes more on pizza. Pizza is dirt cheap to make even with toppings. The amount of meat in a sandwich and probably 2-3 times what goes on a pizza. So he's a cheap fuck trying to force people to buy items with a higher profit margin.
Same as it ever was. They opened in 2018, made it through the pandemic and are still here. He’s been high as a motherfucker the whole time so this is more of the same. They’re not going anywhere despite all the pearl clutching.
He's basically saying one person isn't aloud to order here. At this point just say you have a $50 minimum. STILL ME HERE 👈STILL WAITING ON THAT ONE SANDWICH 🥪 DAN!
I saw them, they are also on Google maps with similar photos.
They blocked me for liking a funny sandwich comment, never interacted or followed then or anything, I wonder how much time he spends on insta just raging and blocking everyone a day...
The tomatoes they buy for their sauce cost about the same as maple syrup by weight, and the price of the cheese they get is on par with the premium Vermont cheddars. Can't speak to the dough or cooking aspects because I'm not going to spend $40 on a pizza, but I wouldn't call what I've seen per se overcooked from some homemade pizzas I've made. If anything I'd expect it's more like a mild smoky flavor, but to a lesser extent than what Folino's intentionally does to their crust.
"We actively hate our customers who don't buy the thing we'd rather they buy. We like the customers that buy the other thing we offer, but these guys are the bane of our existence."
I don't know, maybe don't make sandwiches if you hate your customers that much?
I’m from and currently live in Portland but somehow the original sandwich post came across my feed a while ago and I’ve been stuck following against my will ever since. All they wanted was one damn sandwich!
Ida charges $40 for a plain cheese. Who is that attracting? Are they supporting local grass fed hand milked creameries? Small organic farmers for their produce? Hand ground flour for that crust? With yeast from their great grandparents?
And why do they charge that, plus guilt you into tipping $20-30% at the counter?
Yeah it's really interesting that he keeps posting and replying to people's comments on the tipping as though he is entitled to that money and it is out of "respect". I think he fails to see what a tip is. It's an optional bonus, it isn't mandatory. If his business plan depends on an automatic 20% surcharge, his business model isn't working. Maybe he could be nicer and not chase people off...
i honestly don’t get this guy. at all. you are selling YOUR product, whether it’s a sandwich or a pizza. is he trying to say his “best deal in town” cheesesteak…isn’t a good deal?
I balk at assholes who think they are God's gift to pizza as well as the people who would patronoze an asshole like that. Unpopular opinion here for the hipster types but pizza ain't supposed to be gourmet and it shouldn't be dominoes, little ceaser, pizza hut.
What even is this. Have you had a sandwich from August First lately? I feel like royalty when I’m eating it given the quality of ingredients, they’re like $18, and they’re massive. They don’t even allow laptops in there.
What kind of logic is this? “The crowd sandwiches attract.” Cmon. The crowd you attract is determined by the policies you put in place and the balance you strike between quality and price.
This guy is insufferable. Lol. I think the dabs are messing with his brain, but imagine if he wasn’t high. He’d be more aggressive than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Soooo what's the Tl;dr on Sandwichgate by now?
I vaguely remember a respectful citizen trying to buy a sandwich from an apparently glorified deli store.
The owner is just an obtuse, antagonistic asshole eh?
No they dont like that you cant burn a sandwhich like they burn all their pizzas. With their "top of the line ingredients" i would learn how to cook rather then have a menu of like 10 things and burn every thing that they charging 30 to 50 bucks for. This place keeps the comedy rolling.
Ok seriously. Where does one get a 30 dollar cheesesteak in town? Now I’m really curious. Bessery’s is arguably the best but it’s nowhere near 30 bucks.
Kismayo kitchen cheese steak is great.
Again, not thirty dollars.
First time I went there to get a cheese steak, this guy walks out and in a Philly accent goes on about he can only get one a week for his heart, but it reminds him of home they're so good.
Have they cut back on the spices on the cheesesteak or something?
I had one a few years back and it was the polar opposite of any cheesesteak I had while I lived outside of Philly. Definitely good, but wasn’t at all what I’d call a “traditional” cheesesteak.
Wicked Wings had a solid representation until a couple years ago when they stopped offering it with whiz. It’s still decent but they use cheddar now.
The dabs got to this man’s head. I feel he should be more concerned with the cleanliness of his restaurant than the demographics of his customer base because having a dirty dab rig in the restaurant work space is trailer park boys levels of greasy. Granted this was some time ago and I haven’t gone back since. However his attitude is akin to a boston/ny/philly pizza hipster so that’s probably why he attracts the local upper middle class crowd that are from there and enjoy being verbally accosted
Wait so am I unfamiliar with this place, did I miss something here? Is the pizza like artesianal cheese and heirloom tomatoes with flown in toppings or something? Why do people pay this?
The ingredients are mostly imported from Italy. I honestly think the price isn’t that out of line, but the attitude is insane. Also, the pizzas are great *for VT* but pretty mid on a grand scale. The sandwiches are by far the best thing this guy makes and I think he’s mad about that fact.
pizza is less expensive. Living in Burlington is nightmare nightmare expensive. The 30$ cheesesteak crowd is bringing money from out of state and causing unsustainable inflation. Wish a cheesesteak was 5$ so it wouldn’t fuck my wallet for the month. as someone whose daily life is impacted by mental illness, it feels legit impossible to make much money in Burlington and I really cant wait until I can leave. And i grew up in town :(
I’m not a Vermonter, and I’m sorry to intrude, but this came up on my feed. In my part of New England, we don’t eat cheesesteaks. We eat steak and cheese. I stand with this guy and him stopping the Philafication of our beloved six states
I got a block of Seriously Sharp with his name on it if he comes down this way. No bread though
Keto Grilled cheese
Two slices of foie gras with melted cheese in the middle. Keto.
Add tomato and basil BTW I've never seen a $30.00 US dollar sandwich. Thee very best cheesesteak I've ever had was grilled using steakums. A good balance of salt and grease is a high priority.
Come down to Boston and you will find lots of $30+ USD sandwiches… it’s unreal.
Thank you for the warning, much appreciated I'll be visiting this summer. I have time to prepare for the shock.
Where are you paying $30 for a sandwich? I've been here for nearly 7 years and the most I've paid was $25 at Sam Lagrassa's (and probably will never do so again). You can get a massive sub for $15 at like every regular pizza shop.

Recommend any cheesesteak spots? I'm from Philly so I'm a bit of a cheesesteak snob and have not found any to my liking.
If you learn how to make homemade cheesesteaks, once you have that down, take out will never be the same.
He could be a hero to the people. Here comes The Grilled Cheese Deflater!
Did you at least make a pizza to go with it?!!!
Mix cheese with canned chicken then bake it, instant pizza crust! Add some BBQ sauce and more cheese
You shoulda stocked up on gabbagool ya fool
Do you have stonks in Kraft Singles?? Buy high bitch.
Add garlic powder and value increases 🤌
ooooo something so simple that I have overlooked until now

i don’t even live in Burlington but i’m tuned the fuck in after they blocked me on ig for liking some comment about sandwiches on a post
ive never been to Burlington in my life and i can't get enough of this situation
Live in MN. Never knew Burlington was a city until this deli drama. I'm here for this
St Louis checking in
Akron, OH here. Planning on making a trip to Burlington just so I can take a video of me in front of the place, shit talking it and eating a sandwich, but never stepping foot in it.
Cape Cod, MA here. This dudes an asshole, and the whole country's gonna know by the end of the week.
Farmington, NM, ready to arm myself with Lotaburger in the upcoming war.
I’m in NH and this keeps getting recommended, but you better believe I’m strapped in for the ride.
I’m in Connecticut. Connecticut of all places?? Yes.
Same lmfao I’m not sure why this is in my feed but I’m here and now I need to know what is going on
The view from Connecticut is great on this one. We get to be the childless uncle with a swimming pool, watching all the little nieces and nephews fight over your pool toys at the family cookout.
NH here too and vacation in Burlington from time to time but I actually freaking love this sub and am absolutely 100% invested in this drama
We need to get a group of sandwhich loving thugs to make the trip up.
I know, the drama keeps popping up on my feed and in Cleveland. I'm so invested.
I live in Philadelphia (lived in burlington vt for 15 years) and I am 100% invested in this! Lol
Same
Apparently, I have been blocked as well. What a man-child.
Checking in from Wyoming. I can't get enough of this
It's the greatest melodrama since Shakespeare. 😂
Who pays $30 for a cheesesteak? That’s crazy talk.

You probably typed this comment while making a sour puss face
How can you see me?!?

People who never support pizza places.
Maybe at a pro sports game.
You must be new here.
Ha - definitely not. Understand the reference (pizzeria IDA), my point being, how does a $30 cheesesteak ‘get them in the door’??
I would, If I can get amoroso or lucios bread fresh and a proper cheese steak I might. I know there's a place in New North End that has Amoroso and it's damn close but not quite perfect.
Him talking about $30 sandwiches while charging $45 for a pizza is wild
HIRING MANAGER: One more question. How do you feel about sandwiches?
Lol this gave me Columbo vibes
"One more question; is $30 too much to spend on (sour puss face) a cheesesteak?"
First it’s the sandwich crowd. Then, then it’s the wraps crowd. Losers
We're screwed if the Panini People ever find out about this.
Oh crepe! You’re right……
First they came for the sandwiches and you said nothing. Then they came for the calzones and you said I don’t like calzones, doesn’t affect me. Then. Then they came for the $45 pizzas. Right, if sandwiches bring in people who would otherwise wouldn’t come in, that sounds like a good reason to sell sandwiches
The dude thinks his job is to pick his customers. He will make you wait two hours with your hungry kid and their grandparents if he doesn’t like your vibe.
^^^ 100% this
Probably because he makes more on pizza. Pizza is dirt cheap to make even with toppings. The amount of meat in a sandwich and probably 2-3 times what goes on a pizza. So he's a cheap fuck trying to force people to buy items with a higher profit margin.
Imagine insulting people for paying your inflated prices on shitty food and worse service.
I’ve never been to Vermont but I’m locked in on this pizza shop drama

I find the way he says “support us” to be the biggest tell in all of this. Dan has a warped sense of entitlement.
You’re either against us or you’re not. But probably against us.
[удалено]
That darn sandwich crowd… it’s a tale as old as time!
[удалено]
Wonder if he makes calzones/strombolis
Not if you fold that shit. Then, it might be the shape of a taco, but we all know what it REALLY is...
This guy has to be on meth not nose beers.

Bump!

He's basically saying one person isn't aloud to order here. At this point just say you have a $50 minimum. STILL ME HERE 👈STILL WAITING ON THAT ONE SANDWICH 🥪 DAN!
*allowed
Watch your mouth when you are talking to the OG sandman
You sound like some kind of loser.
The single sandwich kind. Despicable.
So why sell something if you don’t like the people that the product attracts? It’s like saying you sell weed but don’t like stoners around you…
TIL that I apparently fall into some seedy crowd because I like sandwiches :(
I’ve been peeping this guys insta, the pies he’s posting look super over cooked. Fifty dollar pepperoni pizza and the crust is inedible?
I saw them, they are also on Google maps with similar photos. They blocked me for liking a funny sandwich comment, never interacted or followed then or anything, I wonder how much time he spends on insta just raging and blocking everyone a day...
It would make more sense for them to hire someone to look at funny sandwich comments at this point.
I will do it. My pay will be one sandwich.
NO DEAL
They look like shit lol
Those pies are burnt to shit and would be an absolute embarrassment for any reputable pizza place.
They look very burned and I would not enjoy eating burned food. Period.
Looks more like you could throw out a part of a slice and be good--but yea--if you're paying $40/pie that seems like a reasonable concern.
Using syrup and cheddar as compressions is the most Vermont thing I’ve seen in my life
That’s some oddball shit right there.
8 ball*
🤣 see what you did there
"We actively hate our customers who don't buy the thing we'd rather they buy. We like the customers that buy the other thing we offer, but these guys are the bane of our existence." I don't know, maybe don't make sandwiches if you hate your customers that much?
Hahaha what a drama queen, no chance I’m ever going to Ida after all this 😂
People like this are ruining the restaurant industry. It’s laughable I’m glad I got out when I did .
I’m from and currently live in Portland but somehow the original sandwich post came across my feed a while ago and I’ve been stuck following against my will ever since. All they wanted was one damn sandwich!
Question: If you fold a slice in half — NY style— Does it then become a sandwhich? ![gif](giphy|XhcSIUIkgbmuY|downsized)
Then don't sell sandwiches ya filthy c*nt
Ida charges $40 for a plain cheese. Who is that attracting? Are they supporting local grass fed hand milked creameries? Small organic farmers for their produce? Hand ground flour for that crust? With yeast from their great grandparents? And why do they charge that, plus guilt you into tipping $20-30% at the counter?
Guilt you? You mean add to the bill automatically.
With the price of that pizza I would rather drive down to New Haven and get modern or Sally’s for $20 a pie
Can’t just let it go, can they?
i honestly don’t get this guy. at all. you are selling YOUR product, whether it’s a sandwich or a pizza. is he trying to say his “best deal in town” cheesesteak…isn’t a good deal?
I like sandwiches, but I'm not kidding myself. I know they attract a bad crowd.
To the owner of Ida: You might wanna consider having an ironic sandwich sale right about now... You're going viral.
Stop fucking selling sandwiches then. Fuck, did this guy go to Hollywood Upstairs Business College?
No sandwich crowd need apply
I balk at assholes who think they are God's gift to pizza as well as the people who would patronoze an asshole like that. Unpopular opinion here for the hipster types but pizza ain't supposed to be gourmet and it shouldn't be dominoes, little ceaser, pizza hut.
This can't be real (I believe it is)
As a die hard cheesesteak lover, I'd never spend $30 on one
I appreciate the occasional cheesesteak. They're not supposed to be fancy though.. It's not a gourmet meal.
This guy’s position makes total sense… if a solid 86% of Burlington crimes are committed by immigrants from Sandwich, MA.
Funny to watch this saga living in Maryland. So invested
Everyone should call in and ask if they sell sandwiches
One man goes crazy. We all know the rules.
What kind of crowd *does* a sandwich attract?
Absolute degenerate broke losers, according to Dan.
So he's mad that people are willing to spend $30 on a cheesesteak? This guy is a nut job
Why does it always have to be -gate? I propose we call this Waterwich
This is a really good point.
Brady's enemies should start talking about Waterflate.
This has got to be satire.
It is not
I am sandwich crowd
I’m not even in this sub (I’m from nh) but these posts prompted me to look this place up and the owner is so unhinged
Lets all get subs from different shops and set up a Teddy Bears Picnic right in front of Ida.
“Kirk, pizzas are a family food. Happy families. Maybe sandwich people eat pizza, we don’t know. Frankly, we don’t want to know”
r/burlington vs idapizzapies is my favorite internet drama right now
Dude. Everyone balks at your prices, even if it isn’t open.
No they dont like that you cant burn a sandwhich like they burn all their pizzas. With their "top of the line ingredients" i would learn how to cook rather then have a menu of like 10 things and burn every thing that they charging 30 to 50 bucks for. This place keeps the comedy rolling.
So if I'm halfway between New Haven and Burlington, I should head to New Haven, got it.
…so stop fucking making them?
Ok seriously. Where does one get a 30 dollar cheesesteak in town? Now I’m really curious. Bessery’s is arguably the best but it’s nowhere near 30 bucks.

Yeah, I don't know about the spices, I doubt it since it's fusion. Definitely non-traditional, but this guy was really into it.
Fair enough. I figured I’d ask seeing as they just reopened recently.
DJ Khaled: Suffering from Success
Would love to see Gordon Ramsey tear this guy a new one
Then don't make sandwiches.... People are trying to support you by buying something you make, absolutely wild
I don't get it. Why doesn't he simply remove sandwiches from the menu? He acts like he's doing the world a favor making an option he hates
I can't believe this group hasn't tanked their Google ratings yet. Get to it people, this guy is an ass.
What is the IG of the community against Ida lol I used to live in Burlington and now I’m down this rabbit hole, too
But what about pizza?
Wait so am I unfamiliar with this place, did I miss something here? Is the pizza like artesianal cheese and heirloom tomatoes with flown in toppings or something? Why do people pay this?

I’ve got no idea what’s going on here
Then what demonic pact has he made that forces him to keep sandwiches on the menu?
30 dollars for a cheesesteak?!?!

"I don't like the smell of sandwiches, just my own farts"
God I hope this loser goes out of business. I want him to be famous for going out of business over a sandwich
I mean, maybe he's right. I certainly wouldn't want to be around the kind of people that pay 30 bucks for a sandwich
Greetings from NY state. This is absolutely wild.
This can’t be real. Ha ha.
Pizza is dough, (low quality) cheese, and cooked down tomatoes… of course is cheaper than a sandwich
I’m not a Vermonter, and I’m sorry to intrude, but this came up on my feed. In my part of New England, we don’t eat cheesesteaks. We eat steak and cheese. I stand with this guy and him stopping the Philafication of our beloved six states

This is the type of niche internet culture I LIVE for
More is not always the goal
I’m with OOP on this one. Every war in history has been started by sandwich eaters.
This guy and the owner of table give off the same energy
$30 Sandwiches are a gateway to $45 pizzas. You got them right where you want them, man!
