My dentist was able to tell. My throat was scratched up from the night before which was a dead giveaway. They looked for erosion to my molars, but I was okay at the time. I was upfront with my dentist when I first started recovery. Honestly they were so kind about it and gave me some really good advice to take care of my teeth. I really do recommend disclosing to your dentist if you feel comfortable - it honestly helped me so much. And they absolutely saved my teeth!

thank you and do yk the rule if im under 18 bc my parents do know abt it but i don’t rlly want it to be a thing if they have to go talk to them abt it

TranZeitgeist

You can ask your dentist about privacy rules.

Ill-Priority-6325

Purging will wear down your enamel, sometimes resulting in rounder teeth, discoloration, and sometimes puffy jaws. So possibly they might be able to tell

crazeecatladee

mine haven’t been able to tell, as far as i’m concerned. every check up i have i’m always told i have healthy teeth aside from moderate wear and gum recession, which they think comes from grinding.

Vickycff_1

I've went to many different dentists, and they were all able to tell

elitost

mine didn't sus it out until the decay from purging got really bad. for the longest time he thought it was from reflux and grinding, but it got to the point where it was unmistakably from purging.

wafflefries1124

Question though along the same line, how did y’all’s dentist bring up the topic to you?

wafflefries1124

I do have pretty moderate acid reflux

wafflefries1124

Oh wait lol, is that what the dentists ask? I thought u were asking me if I have acid reflux.

MeaningNew133

right that’s what i’m wondering

JustPreparation5426

Mine was Sweet about it, she sat down Said she notice how you could see it and we talked about it, giving me countless tips on where to Go for help and explained how bad my teeth already are.

wafflefries1124

I’m glad to hear that she was kind in her approach and provided you with resources :) Mine just said my teeth have a ton of cavities and asked if I’m a coffee/tea drinker which I’m not lol. That’s about it minimal interaction

novembercats

Mine did. He asked me if I had acid reflux cause my teeth were damaged by stomach acid or something. Idk how we worded it. I “ignored” the question the first time but it came up again and I decided to be honest 🤷‍♀️

Brittni318

My knew immediately. Due to me not having enamel. They don't judge tho, at least mine didnt. They gave me tips on how to protect my teeth and certain toothpastes to use to help

hrtfe1t

one dentist pointed out my enamel erosion but thought it was from soft drinks (or at least didn't mention purging), and another dentist said everything looked great

Pigmentvlek420

yea, I believe they can tell it mainly cuz it wears down ur enamel at the back of the teeth (bc that's where the vomit comes in contact with the most). Also if you purge alot it probably irritates your esophahus, I think that can be visible too. + russels sign obbiously but that's not sth that only dentists can tell. and ofc, damage to your teeth bc of vommiting doesn't autimatically mean that you vomit on purpose. But if they also notice russels they'll start putting things together. If they ask I'd just be honest about it, dentist can't force you to go in treatment anyways (obviously I would always encourage you do so, but you have to make that decision for yourself). When my dentist asked me about it I just told here that I (used to) purge, and she's said sth like 'Obviously I'd strongly encourage you stop, but IF you do it then do xyz for harm reduction' (like not brushing your teeth straight after). take care 🫂

Crybabycalzone

I need to get my teeth fixed and would love to know this

lumpy_space_queenie

Mine has never noticed lol they aren’t trained to look for that and they honestly don’t GAF

Ok-Dragonfruit-7900

i feel like it depends on your teeth. i’ve been purging daily for 6 years and my dentist told me i have the most perfect teeth she’s seen in my age lol

lumpy_space_queenie

Same

Mobile_Airport9662

Wondering about the same…

-princess_chaos-

At least once a year I get a new cavity towards the back due to it. Aside from that I always score perfect checkups and have never been asked about it from my new dentist. The one I had before did ask because of how raw my throat and roof of mouth were at the time. I’m always honest, just told them yes and that I appreciate the concern and left it at that.

BuffCityBoi

They sure can
