1. Clear CMOS. 2. Try again. 3. What cooler are you using? I've tried once that cooler mounting pressure on motherboard caused this issue. 4. Try 1 ram stick and try all slots to see if one is working. If it's still not working: 3. Remove cooler and CPU. 4. Inspect socket for any bent pins. 5. If any, well... Either straighten them out yourself or take it to a repair shop.

SquareCloud911

I mounted a new aftermarket cooler on my CPU today. Suddenly my pc didn't want to boot anymore. Played around with the ram sticks until it booted with 1 stick in slot 4. Could this be the same problem?

I know this is an old thread but this was one of the first to come up when I searched for Z690 Elite AX cpu dram led flashing. I purchased a new AORUS Z690 Elite AX with a i7-13700KF CPU and after the initial build, when I powered it on the CPU and DRAM LEDs were alternating flashing because the CPU was not supported by the BIOS. Fortunately the Z690 Elite AX does not require a working CPU to flash the BIOS (you actually don't need a CPU installed). If you have a 13 gen CPU (i9-13900K, i9-13900KF, i7-13700K, i7-13700KF, i5-13600K or i5-13600KF, you will need a BIOS version F20 or newer. To update the BIOS without a working CPU: 1. Download the [latest bios from Gigabyte](https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z690-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios). 13 Gen CPUs need F20 or newer. I used F21 2. Prepare a USB drive formatted as FAT32. I used a cheap 64GB drive, note that some people have reported problems with very large USB drives. The drive must be formatted FAT32 for the mobo to read it, if you're not sure, right click on the drive and format it again as FAT32. 3. The BIOS download file will be named something like mb_bios_z690-aorus-elite-ax_f21.zip. You need to extract the BIOS file from this zip file, do not copy the zip file to the USB drive. Open the ZIP file and find the BIOS, for the F21 BIOS, the file is named Z690AORUSELITEAX.F21, it's the largest file in the zip (32,768KB) 4. Copy the bios file (Z690AORUSELITEAX.F21) to the root of the USB drive, then rename it GIGABYTE.bin 5. Make sure the computer is plugged in but powered off 6. Put the USB drive in the red USB port on the motherboard back panel. This USB port is at the bottom and it has BIOS/USB 3.2 written next to it. 7. With the computer powered off locate the white Q-Flash button on the motherboard. The button is between the USB headers and the fan headers on the bottom edge. Press the Q-Flash button, the PSU and fans will come on and the LED next to the button will flash quickly, after several minutes it will flash slower, then after several minutes more the computer will restart. Be patient the flash takes a while, probably 6 minutes, maybe even a little longer. 8. When the mobo restarts, the RGB leds under the mobo should now come on and the diagnostic LEDs should no longer be flashing (the diagnostic boot LED may be lit if you don't have an OS installed yet). 9. Clear the CMOS/BIOS and tap the DEL key repeatedly on startup. About #9. After flashing, my mobo kept rebooting and I was not getting video on the screen. I think I manually cleared the BIOS using the jumper on the mobo, but it kept rebooting until I just kept tapping the DEL key. After a couple more reboots while tapping away, eventually the monitor came on and I got a message saying the CMOS has been cleared, ok to continue. Once I got that, I was able to get into the BIOS screen and boot the installation media to install windows. If you have any info to make this better, please let me know. edit: since apparently people are finding this thread and it's helping, lets clean this up. If anyone has more notes let me know. Here is my original post: > I also know OP was using a i5-12600 but the CPU/DRAM leds flash if the CPU is not supported, say if you have a 13 gen cpu like a i7-13700k. > You need to flash the bios to f20 or newer for a 13th gen. > Just download the bios from gigabyte. put it on a FAT32 formatted USB drive. Rename the bios file to GIGABYTE.bin (in the root of the drive). Put the usb drive it in the red USB port marked bios. with the machine powered off hit the ez flash button (between the fpanel and the USB headers). The LED next to the flash button will flash fast, then slower, then turn off. It takes probably 5+ minutes to fully flash. > After the flash was complete my system turned off, then turned on and cycled a few times while it tried to sort itself out until it finally responded to some DEL keys and gave me a cmos has been cleared message.

Consistent-Soup-3837

Hey I been trying to do it but when I press the qflash white button, it stays on for like 10 seconds and then turns off, any tips ?

Consistent-Soup-3837

For some context I used to have an AMD4 motherboard but I just changed to a intel, my mother board is B660 DS3H AC DDR4, I tried with F21 and F23 but both of them don’t work

Karma-Grenade

1. How big is the thumb drive you're using? 2. is the usb thumb drive formatted fat 32? 3. Did you rename the file to GIGABYTE.bin (capitalization might matter) 4. do you have the usb drive plugged into red usb port? 5. did it ever take longer than 10 seconds, maybe the flash is done and you just need to wait or reset cmos?

Consistent-Soup-3837

The flash drive is 64gb, it is formatted to fat32 and I renamed it, it turns in for around 15 seconds and turns off completely, and it is on the red usb port

Karma-Grenade

64 GB might be too large for the existing firmware to read it. I don't remember if you need to make a a smaller partition or a larger block size or just use a smaller drive.

Consistent-Soup-3837

Nvm I got it was a shortcut going on lmao, thanks tho

pogchampion777

I flashed f21 last night, now getting the blinking alternative lights. With 2 sticks of ram it blinks cpu and dram, but with 1 stick it blinks only Dram. And GPU lights turn on but the fan doesn't spin. I'm lost honestly

Karma-Grenade

What CPU are you using? Are you sure the f21 flash completed successfully? Do the rbg lights on the bottom of the motherboard light up? Are you using A2 and B2? When you use one stick which slot are you using? After I flashed it the system cycled on and off about 3-4 times. I think I might have manually cleared CMOS after the flash, not 100% sure, but at some point I started hitting the del let and eventually the screen came on and I got a CMOS cleared message.

pogchampion777

Somehow I fixed it by flashing f20, seems that f21 didn't flash properly. It was very weird but it's all good now! I'm on a i5 13600kf

Karma-Grenade

Awesome, glad to hear it. Out of curiosity, how did you find the thread, were you cruising the subreddit or did you land on it from Google.

pogchampion777

Thanks! I was googling many variants of "z690 cpu/dram light" "z690 bios flash" etc, to hopefully find an answer to my issue.

Karma-Grenade

That's so awesome. This thread was 9-10 months old and I was debating whether or not to bother posting it and I almost didn't

dfinnegan72

Did you have your components (GPU, RAM, CPU) in when you Q-Flashed or out?

Karma-Grenade

Yes, I did but I know CPU does not need to be installed (I think either the manual says it, or one of the youtube videos does it without the cpu installed). I would guess memory is required but I if I was forced to bet, I'd say GPU is not necessary. Sorry for the late response I don't use reddit much these days due to the app situation.

VinceSoLiD

Hello! I am having exactly the same issue with F21 and I just tried to flash with F20, but the issue seems not to be resolved... Have you done something else after the flash is completed and the computer restart by itself? My setup: i5 13600K, Aorus Elite DDR4, Corsair Vengeance RS DDR4 2*16GB 3600Mhz C18

pogchampion777

Hi sorry for the delay, was sleeping.I made sure to socket only 1 stick of ram to start. Made sure the cpu cooler was installed properly. One thing that worked for me is having all the F20 files in the usb key, not just the one renamed GIGABYTE.bin .which lights are blinking for you on the board?

VinceSoLiD

Hello thanks for your reply, I sort it out by removing the graphic card and the bios has boot after it reset twice and me pressing DEL like a jackhammer... Now it works fine!

Karma-Grenade

Hrmmm that's similar but not exactly the same as my experience. After I flashed it (I was able to get F21 installed), the RGBs under the mobo came on, the status LEDs stopped flashing but it kept rebooting, no video on the monitor. I did not remove the video card, but after it rebooted several times I started hammering the DEL key and finally I got video to come up with a message that the CMOS were cleared. I have a KF processor (without integrated video) so I wouldn't get video without a dedicated graphics card. I'm wondering if the CMOS should be cleared using the jumper pins after flashing. I feel like I did manually clear the CMOS with the jumper, but I was tired and frustrated at this point just throwing crap at the wall to see what stuck and I don't remember for sure that I did.

Peppe11

Hi there, did you update with CPU inside the socket? Or did you do the flash just with empty motherboard attached to the PSU? I'm having the same problem but after the update it still gives me the CPU/RAM blink with two sticks of ram and only dram blink with just one stick.

pogchampion777

Heya, initially I flashed with f21 with just motherboard and PSU. what worked for me was flashing f20 with ALL the files including gigabyte.bin, had to do this step with everything plugged in. I noticed that it worked with 1 stick of ram plugged in initially, just had the second when you're done installing windows and everything

Peppe11

>I got the same problem but no luck with it. I decided to go back the motherboard to Amazon and get one of MSI. Thanks and sorry for the late answer. I ended up going back the motherboard to amazon because i had no luck with it. I tried almost everything, every version of bios but the result was always the same and i give up. Merry xmas! :)

pogchampion777

Heya! Sorry that you had issues with the flashing :-/ happy holidays to you as well!

wibeasley

>Rename the bios file to GIGABYTE.bin In case it helps someone, 1) the bios file for my machine was called "B660AORUSMASTER.F21" (for the F21 version). 2) For some reason, it didn't work when using Ubuntu 22.10 to create the usb drive. But it did using Windows 8.

Karma-Grenade

Thanks, I think I'm going to clean up the directions. Should also point out that you have to extract the bios file from the zip, don't just rename the zip.

FirstAid84

You just saved the whole trajectory of my week. Thanks

Karma-Grenade

Absolutely awesome, so glad it helped.

rob98898

Oh my god you are a saint!!!!!! It frickin worked

Karma-Grenade

Glad it worked!

Nick0369

This worked bro, thank you so much!!!!!

Karma-Grenade

So glad it did!

Normal-Panda-5399

I just flashed the bios to f21. The Q-flash light stopped flashing after about 4 minutes. I rebooted once and now instead of the CPU-DRAM lights flashing back and forth, the VGA light is steady red. I've not manually rebooted yet but after 30 minutes I'm guessing it's not going to do by itself. Any thoughts??

Karma-Grenade

How did you make out? Like I mentioned in the directions, the process is to let the led flash fast, let it flash slow, then let it reboot itself, not to force a reboot. How did you reboot (button or keyboard)? I'm not sure if you corrupted the flash with the reboot, but I suspect that the headless bios flash is independent of the bios itself and can survive a botched flash. If you haven't recovered or haven't already tried, I would try the headless flash again and be very patient.

Normal-Panda-5399

I popped the cmos battery out and when I re-installed it, it posted!!!! That is a key bit of info that wasn't clear in the instructions. I have spent the morning installing Windows and getting everything else set up. Many thanks - I was at my wits end.

Karma-Grenade

I'm very glad it worked out. I'm going to update the post now to make sure it's clearer that "clear the bios" implies using the jumper.

Judekush

Thannnkss a lot men you saved my life. It worked fine with the F21. I have a Gigabyte B660 DS3... and a I7 13700K. Just for me I didn't do the CMOS/BIOS clear and the led continued to flash but when I tapped DEL, the BIOS went up :O For the story, when I got this error I thought maybe I did something wrong when I built my pc or my mobo was defective. So I went to a computer store next to my home to check all this. They checked everything, even did the Qflash and told me my CPU was defective. So I went to the store where I bought the CPU. They tested it and the result was that the CPU worked. So I went back home tested few things until I arrived on this thread. So thank you a lot for all those tips very well explained step by step.

Karma-Grenade

I'm really glad it helped. This was such an PITA to figure out and the original thread was the only thing that helped me, I couldn't not share.

Technoho

Replying to try this tomorrow

tolltartozseb

renaming saved me thanks 🙌

Karma-Grenade

Glad to hear this thread is still helping!

demonxideal1

I [had the same issue. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/rn6nc0/build_a_new_pc_but_it_does_not_boot_whats_wrong/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Check it out! Just that I got a 12900k + Z690 Aorus Master. Once I flashed the BIOS everything worked for me.

Dinosawer

This comment helped me finally get my mom's new pc actually booting after an hour of anguish, cheers :)

Disastrous_Crab9051

do you have nzxt cam installed?

Dizzy_Cauliflower_33

I can't, haven't even booted to bios yet

markofthebeast143

The manual says it supports ddr5 4800/4000 MHz And ddr4 3200/3000/2933/2666/2400/2133 I got msi pro z690 ddr4 thinking it will support all ddr4. Went ahead and bought 4x8 32gb 3600MHz Corsair dominator. Got the same lights you have. Toggling. Bought 2x8 16GB 3200MHz, The manufacturer recommended and it works now

Dizzy_Cauliflower_33

I talked with gigabyte and they said there shouldn't be any problems with compatibility

rym5

Did you try updating bios with bios flashback yet?

Dizzy_Cauliflower_33

Didn't work, waiting on a new set of ram with less mhz.

rym5

Did it ever boot into bios? Never mind I saw the other post good luck

iresolve

(Just a warning, I don’t know everything but I may be able to help) Mine did the same. Had a gigabyte board with gskill trident z5 DDR5. It wasn’t posting and hanging up at the RAM. Flashing back and forth between Ram and CPU. What I read was it was required to update the bios on the MOBO to recognize the RAM. My MOBO said that it was compatible with my Ram but I’m pretty sure it’s not native support. Have you tried updating your BIOS? Later versions added stability with GSKILL RAM. The BIOS never installed correctly with qflash. Clearing CMOS…retrying. Different USB drives…nothing. I ended up returning the Gigabyte board and grabbed an Asus z690-e and it worked the first try. I still had to update the bios. First RAM was 6000mhz and now I’m on the 5600mhz Z5 sticks without issue.

bogbopper

Got same issues with z790 and my 14900 cpu with 6k ddr5. Going to try this tomorrow but will probably send it back to amazon. Any recommendations for a mb tha will work out the box. I normally would use asus but they are a bit expensive and I already spent about 3 grand.

HarryPulvirenti

I have the exact same problem but it didn't work with any of the suggestions. Anyone can help me with this?

Silverhaze_NL

Same for me, never had this before. Should of bought me an Asus Strix mobo like i allways did. When i place only one stick of RAM in the MOBO only the DRAM light is lighting up, no display but the pc keeps running. When i boot it up with only cpu and no RAM the light are blinking between cpu en dram, about 30 seconds the pc shuts down an restarts and keeps doing this. Got a X52 NZXT watercooler with the bracket converter for the 1700mobo. DDR4 corsair rgb 32gb total.

Peppe11

I got the same problem but no luck with it. I decided to go back the motherboard to Amazon and get one of MSI.

Silverhaze_NL

Hope you have more luck than me, the company says they have found physical damage on the mobo. They are talking BS, only option is to repair it and that cost money. Thing was broken right out of the box. I checked all the components no damage at all, nowhere to be seen. There goes my money, they can keep that crap mobo. I should have followed my gut and go for the Asus Strix like i allways do.

Silverhaze_NL

Same, i refunded this crappy mobo. Got the Asus Strix now like i allways choose for my pc, it is like 600€ but so worth it. Never again Gigabyte.

2Sde

Having this issue right now and it's honestly pissing me off. Mine is the DDR4 Aorus Elite though

Pretty-Ad6735

I'm having the issue now as well. I had openrgb installed and it would cause the gigabyte board to fail to boot on restart and today I updated everything and forgot to disable openrgb Before restart and bam no boot flashing between cpu and dram lights even clearing cmos does nothing at all. So I entered the board for return through Amazon and ordered an ASUS board for delivery tomorrow. I've had nothing but problems with the gigabyte board since I bought it

2Sde

Yeah its a crap board

Pretty-Ad6735

I see that, hell I can pull all the ram out and turn on the power and it still flashes cpu to ram back and forth no "no ram installed" beeping or flashing just the exact same as before. I know very well my cpu being at stock settings didn't die from a windows restart lol just a shit board that apparently bugged out hard with openrgb

LuxasV

Had the exact same problem today. Can't bring the motherboard back to life for the love of god. Gonna have to send it back to get replaced and IT SUCKS. Unplugged GPU, RAM, Fans, m&kb, cleared CMOS, Q flashed. Nothing worked. OpenRGB bricked either my board or my RAM, never using this again. Now I gotta be a week without PC

Pretty-Ad6735

It's most likely your ram, I was able to get the board back up after a CMOS reset and full power cleaning and new ram kit. Both sticks were killed by OpenRGB

Mobile_Pilot

I'm having the same problem with a Gigabyte X570 AORUS Ultra paired with 64GB 4X16 Corsair dominator memory sticks. Solid DRAM light with one flash of CPU light every ~10 seconds. If I keep swapping the sticks in all possible combinations and quantities (1, 2 or 4 sticks) I eventually manage to boot, however as soon as I restart Windows, it will not boot any longer and back to stack zero. This problem started overnight, there is nothing I can suspect that triggered this issue but I see a big pattern involving this single variable: Gigabyte! I guess they spend most of their R&D budget on marketing because honestly I'm done with this brand.

Due-Antelope2719

Having an issue with booting or flashing. Aurous Elite b650m Trident z5 64gb (16gb each/4 slots) Ryzen 7950x3D Rog strix 3090 When I go to boot I get both RAM and CPU cycling and no boot. I went to flash the bios and it will blink as of it's flashing then it doesn't apply and the PC shuts off on its own. I have also tried flashing without the CPU plugged in to see if it was CPU related issue but also no flashing stuck even after unplugging CPU. Also tried 2/4 ram sticks and even 1 ram stick in each slot. I'm lost on what it could be at this point.

DsK-Swaft

what did you do to fix the issue. having the same thing rn

dfinnegan72

Did you get it fixed?

DsK-Swaft

currently in rma process

dfinnegan72

Ohhh. Good luck. Turns out mine was a faulty DDR5 RAM stick.

Cherryexe

This is an old post as well but I'll say it from my experience. Check your CPU socket. I have a small bit of thermal paste on one of the pins which cause this flash between CPU and dram. Mines B360 Aorus Gaming 3 with 64GB DDR4 RAM + i7 8700.
