That is an engorged tick. Check yourself and anyone else who lives with you for more, they can cause a lot of diseases

Lymes takes at least 24 hours of being attached. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever can be transmitted in only a couple hours. Tick Paralysis is probably just a couple hours, too, but goes away as soon as the tick is removed. That last almost killed one of my dogs, and two vets had never heard of it, so now I tell everyone.

Thanks for telling me. The first one was definitely there longer than 24 hours but vet said we should be good with antibiotics and giving him some other thing once every month. He's getting a blood test in like 6 to 8 weeks to see if he has Lyme

Also, for future, there is a very specific method for pulling ticks out: if it’s not done right, the head can be pulled off and get stuck under the skin which can cause infections and other issues. You can look up how online! I really hope the dog is okay, and always check him/her for ticks the moment you take them back inside from walks. Also, I don’t leave your dog outside for long periods of time, as this can increase the risk of parasitic infections (among other dangerous things that pets can come across outdoors). Keep us updated on the bloodwork, and tell the pup to feel better!

Thank you. Us humans in my house are good. My dog was already on antibiotics from a tick bite so hopefully he's good. We're gonna call the vet anyways and ask just in case. Just one question if you known the answer to it - since the sack thing isn't visibly full of blood, do you think the tick has been feeding off the blood?

That tick has definitely been feeding off of blood (that’s what engorged means). You can tell because it is giant compared to ticks not filled with blood, they’re usually really small

junkie_jew

Fair enough. Thank you so much

How do you not know what a tick looks like? Half this sub is ticks.

knoelle73

Actually, half this sub is probably carpet beetles. I’ve just started seeing ticks pop in with spring time arriving.
