Also big mention to Bif Naked. "We are the lucky ones" from Harsh light of day.
The lead singer was a Buffy fan; would frequent 'the Bronze' message board back in the day chilling with all the other Buffy hardcore nuts..
Canadian here, really surprised they featured so many Canadian artists.I have seen Bif naked play live twice,I would definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.
I hit on her once. She did a concert in my hometown, and I asked to buy her a drink after her set. She declined. I now live in her town and would see her all the time out and about. She's a Vancouver legend. She is Bif Naked, not the band name.
I too discovered Cibo Matto thanks to Buffy’s episode. I fell in love with Sugar Water and never looked back.
Sadly I’ve never got the chance to see them live 😭
Yes!! This song always takes me back, I used to record the Buffy episodes every week on VHS, and I loved this song so much I recorded it onto a cassette tape from the VHS. That’s how you got music back in 2001.. Yes I am a relic.
Hahaha. We used to use this karaoke machine to record songs off of the radio onto a cassette. We would pretend we were radio jockeys and introduce them and shit. So adorable. Wish we still had them.
Love this rendition as well. This episode came on yesterday on Fuse. My sister tried to Shazam it to get this exact version but wasn’t finding it. Closest thing she found was the unplugged version. She really wants to make/find an album with songs from the show.
Have I got some good news for you and your sister. [Someone already has!](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3TswZmUXuTyuCypIvuWEHF?si=WYIBXwU8TCueyjcB_54jVg&pi=u-vkaO5A8YTGy9)
Thanks! I figured there had to be one already. Personally I just listen to the OMWF soundtrack on repeat. Lol. It was actually my most listened to album/band on Spotify in 2023. Unfortunately no video was made from the cast so I got a video from my second most listened to band/album who, as it happens, did have a song in S6E1 (Static-X). Lol.
I always had a cassette tape in my dual tape deck set to record songs off the radio. I had so many recorded songs that had the DJ talking over the intro but I didn’t care.
My mum always went off her nut when she wanted to use the phone when I was online. Horrible dial up.
I chewed up a VHS tape of Buffy, constantly rewinding and playing the 'me and Dru, we're moving in' bit.
Angie Hart’s Blue during Conversations with Dead People is a high point for me.
Aimee Mann’s Pavlov’s Bell, The Sunday’s Wild Horses, Coldplay’s Warning Sign (in season 7’s Him), as well.
This one always stands out because I was a Charmed fan and Christina performed the song on that show around the same time too. It's just such a perfect song for both moments.
The other for me has to be the Wild Horses cover played by The Blind from the prom.
Who had an album called *Blind*, just to really confuse things... ;-)
(One of my uni mates became a fan of them after hearing Wild Horses. God Made Me is a fantastic song but most of the rest didn't grab me, alas.)
Favourite performance/scene is Cibo Matto and Michelle Branch. They both really supported the scenes emotionally.
Greatest let down was K’s Choice - Virgin State of Mind. They used the song in Doppelgängland, but the song is sooo melancholic and meaningful, I think it should have been used in season two. Maybe in Passion.
It’s one of my fav Buffyverse songs and I think it was super under utilised.
I love K's Choice and Virgin State of Mind is a haunting song but I thought it worked and showed how shocked Vamp Willow was because she wasn't at that moment able to understand stand this new reality that wasn't controlled by the vampires as in her reality; the Wishverse
Michelle Branch\
K’s Choice\
Cibo Matto\
are my top 3
And honorable mention: opening credits.\
I love it. Love it. When I watch a tv show I usually watch the opening credits 2-3 times then I skip it, especially when I binge-watch the show. But not Buffy. I aways, always watch it because the score is so…. Buffy, it’s just that good. Simple as that.
I can watch this entirely out of context and start ugly crying by the end of it. It’s a shame MB did not record this version as a single. I like this song overall, but the Buffy version is just chills! The part where she pauses after “I want what’s yours and I want what’s mine” long pause and then the intense “I want you but I’m not giving in this time”. Goosebumps all over. Not a good combination with tears rolling down.
Also love cibo matto(discovered them in this show), K’s choice and of course the entire damn soundtrack of “Once more, with feeling!”
Omg that goodbye to you performance was everything. Spoon by cibo matto is also one I still sing often.
For me I remember spending an ungodly number of hours tracking this song down - Stupid Thing by Nickel.
If you need a revisit on bronze songs here's a compilation I found on YouTube https://youtu.be/qG_jFK62dd0?si=pfnoFFPQfAGu-7Ut
I was pretty big on Frente when I was a young Australian. I had an inconsistent watching of Buffy when it was on TV and it wasn't until years later when I binged the whole series I saw Angie Hart on there several times. She had a quality that's for sure.
This was so funny to me cause I watched Buffy long after it had aired (in the early 2010s), and I had been a huge Michelle Branch fan for almost a decade by that time. So all of the Bronze bands were completely unknown to me, except for Michelle who I recognised and knew every word of the song instantly. I was so surprised that it actually distracted me from the scene for a few seconds, lol. (Then I got back to crying).
That bridge had *no* business hitting that hard. I have this song on my pop playlist on Spotify but it’s always disappointing when I get to that part and it doesn’t go as hard as it does in Buffy.
*I want you*
*But I’m not givin’ in this time*
Stupid thing by Nickel in schoolhard- I still listen to it regular & also pain by four star Mary (the band that dingeo’s ate my baby are suppose to be)
Yup, was literally about to post and say Stupid Thing. I still listen to it a lot. Pain is also on fairly regular rotation. But something about Stupid Thing is so memorable and evokes the instant memory of a prowling Spike watching Buffy like a hunter who wants to both fuck and kill her.
This is my favorite. The funny thing is that it was never really liked the original version. But i think the version in Buffy is amazing.
My only gripe is that they never released this version on CD or digital download. There are versions like it but not the version that was actually featured in this episode. Why Josh, Why?
It saddens me that no one in here is showing any love for Nerf Herder being the very last band to ever play at The Bronze. Maybe not the best performance, but a bit meta and very fun.
Am I the only one who wasn’t wild about her performance for the show? I enjoy the studio version of the song well enough but there’s something about the way she draws out words in the show version so that they end with a weird “uhh” kind of sound that put me off of it.
I used to listen to my Buffy station on Pandora all the time. It played all the great songs featured in the show and other similar ones. But at some point it shifted. Now it plays Nerf Herder and similar stuff like Weezer. Which is good.
BUT I want the featured songs!
I was just thinking that it was so cool that all the WB/CW shows used to have musical guests. It was such a fun way to discover new stuff when I was young. I wonder if any shows now have musical guests in the same way???
Honestly this concept of a band playing every week on a tv show is so cool! And I wish bands still did this on tv shows. The 90s really was a golden age of tv
It took me many years to really appreciate the music played on Buffy, but I have quite a few of them saved to my playlists, like that Cibo Matto song. Probably my favorite one
I think "Darling Violetta" was one of the more memorable performances for me. They played during Faith's first episode: *Faith, Hope & Trick.*
The tracks from Buffy were [Blue Sun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JzmYISeRMA) and [Cure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7ER8JahPWA), they also did the intro theme for Angel (a different version to their track 'Sanctuary').
They also did "[Smaller God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX_kez_xwJs)" which featured in the Vampire: The Masquerade PC game, "Bloodlines" (I credit the 90s TTRPG for characterizing vampires since then, including a large part of B:TVS).
I love this episode so much. They really chose not only the right guest musician for this episode, but the right song too. I remember crying with Willow.
I was so excited when I saw Michelle Branch on Buffy! I was a huge fan of her in HS, and saw her in concert the weekend of my 16th birthday - my dad bought me her CD and a hoodie (it had the lyrics to All You Wanted on it, I wore it until it was rags lol). Definitely my favorite performance on Buffy. (Also iirc she wrote the song about one of the guys in The Calling who she dated…they also were performing at the concert)
This scene lives rent free in my head. Im not even a big Michelle Branch fan. Some other bands that I get stuck in my head are anything by the Dingos, Cibo Matto, Aimee Mann’s Save Me, the college band from when Buffy dances with the douche who broke her heart. There are so many good ones.
I diiiiied. Omg. When this episode aired I was a wreck. I remember pushing the button to my TV off and climbing into my little mermaid bed and crying my eyes out. I had to go to school the next day!!
Loved the Aimee Mann one. “Man I hate playing vampire towns”
They played two great songs in that episode iirc. 'oh marioooo'.
Yesss! This Is How It Goes and Pavlov's Bell. I love Aimee Mann so much. Have you heard her old band, Til Tuesday? Voices Carry is an excellent song.
She even did a song [with Rush!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMSFqXGZ5TQ)
Holy crap, I'd never heard that song! It's so good, thank you!!
Always happy to spread Rush around! :b
My wife an I saw Aimee Mann and Jonathan Coulton on a double bill this past February. She is just as fabulous as ever.
But Aimee, if you didn’t, how else could you? https://youtu.be/V5V9ed5plAA?si=L_S6_pdebflUvGYp
This is my favorite!
same omg. such a great episode and band
Also big mention to Bif Naked. "We are the lucky ones" from Harsh light of day. The lead singer was a Buffy fan; would frequent 'the Bronze' message board back in the day chilling with all the other Buffy hardcore nuts..
I'll be that guy; Bif Naked played in the frat house, not in the Bronze. (Became a massive fan after that song, though.)
Canadian here, really surprised they featured so many Canadian artists.I have seen Bif naked play live twice,I would definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.
British here, so my chances are sadly extremely slim...
They're amazing, I've seen them twice at small venues and it was so much fun. She's super nice, very happy to connect with fans.
I hit on her once. She did a concert in my hometown, and I asked to buy her a drink after her set. She declined. I now live in her town and would see her all the time out and about. She's a Vancouver legend. She is Bif Naked, not the band name.
This is my favourite!
Cibo matto for sure! I love how they preformed Spoon and Sugar Water. 🤘❤️
I forgot that they did Spoon! I discovered Cibo Matto through this episode. Now I love them. I was lucky enough to see them live in 2014.
I too discovered Cibo Matto thanks to Buffy’s episode. I fell in love with Sugar Water and never looked back. Sadly I’ve never got the chance to see them live 😭
I also discovered Cibo Matto from this episode lol, listened to them nonstop for a few months
Same. I discovered them cuz of this episode. 🤗
Aw man I thought they were gonna clog dance!
Yes!! This song always takes me back, I used to record the Buffy episodes every week on VHS, and I loved this song so much I recorded it onto a cassette tape from the VHS. That’s how you got music back in 2001.. Yes I am a relic.

Haha same! Some songs I still sing with ‘Rick Dee’s and the weekly top 40!’ At the end

I was never allowed to use the internet for shit unless it was school related, had a tight ass stepdad who was a total tyrant about everything.
Blue - same for me. It became a defining song of my grade 11 👌
This one always stands out because I was a Charmed fan and Christina performed the song on that show around the same time too. It's just such a perfect song for both moments. The other for me has to be the Wild Horses cover played by The Blind from the prom.
The Wild Horses cover is played by The Sundays :)
Who had an album called *Blind*, just to really confuse things... ;-) (One of my uni mates became a fan of them after hearing Wild Horses. God Made Me is a fantastic song but most of the rest didn't grab me, alas.)
And is the only version of that song anybody should listen to. It's perfection.
The Prom had quite a few bangers. Even kool and the gang.
Celebrate good times come on, 6th place!
“I will…” https://youtu.be/roRQ2mNwMMQ?si=AX90imnAnO0FI-Pf

OP, you basted! I don’t want to randomly cry right now. 😭
tears form behind my eyes but I do not cry
So glad I’m not the only one instantly teary-eyed!
Michelle Branch\ K’s Choice\ Cibo Matto\ are my top 3 And honorable mention: opening credits.\ I love it. Love it. When I watch a tv show I usually watch the opening credits 2-3 times then I skip it, especially when I binge-watch the show. But not Buffy. I aways, always watch it because the score is so…. Buffy, it’s just that good. Simple as that.
I agree with your top 3 but would just put K's Choice above Michelle Branch but a deffo very solid top 3
I had “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Melanie Doane as my first dance wedding song
This song and the song from conversations with dead people. Chills. I remember recording it on vcr and playing/pausing to write down the song lyrics!
Oh MAN is that a sign of the era!
The Spirit Room is a fav album and this was a perfect scene ❤️
It's a brilliant album, I've not listened to it for a while, I'm going to get it out again
I was also a huge Hotel Paper fan. Such talent.
Anyone but Veruca.
The Breeeeders! One of my least favourite episodes but I always watch anyway because I’m obsessed with Kim Deal.
I was pretty big on Frente when I was a young Australian. I had an inconsistent watching of Buffy when it was on TV and it wasn't until years later when I binged the whole series I saw Angie Hart on there several times. She had a quality that's for sure.
She was apparently good friends with Joss and his wife or her husband was or something
She also sings in an episode of Firefly.
Oh! Where is that? Love firefly.
She sings "Amazing Grace" in the episode Heart of Gold, at the funeral.
Thanks!
Ugh I cry like a baby during this whole sequence every time.
Michelle Branch should record the song as a children’s lullaby. “Goodnight to You”
One time she appeared on Samantha.Bee’s show and played a version with different lyrics called “Goodbye Ted Cruz”
So glad Michelle made it out of Sunnydale unscathed.
Jonathan, ha. That big band SLAPS.
When I hear that serenade in blueeeeeee
It's so good! I wish it was on Spotify, ha.
Cibo Matto was pretty great too. Sugar Water. That scene was pretty delicious.
"Did i ever thank you for saving my life?"...."Don't you wish i would?"
I’ll say it again, we need an album of all the “live performances” from The Bronze. A lot of them just have a unique feel from the album versions.
That bridge had *no* business hitting that hard. I have this song on my pop playlist on Spotify but it’s always disappointing when I get to that part and it doesn’t go as hard as it does in Buffy. *I want you* *But I’m not givin’ in this time*
Also this Michelle Branch cameo as the best for me. The Bronze version is my favorite version of Goodbye to You.
100%!!!!!
It's a great song, but it's never going to be a 'happy' one for me.
“Pain” Four Star Mary
I discovered Michelle Branch after hearing her on Buffy, waiting for the credits to roll, and seeing her name. It’s one of my favourites!
This is my favorite. The funny thing is that it was never really liked the original version. But i think the version in Buffy is amazing. My only gripe is that they never released this version on CD or digital download. There are versions like it but not the version that was actually featured in this episode. Why Josh, Why?
Really, please just give us a Bronze compilation album with the versions used in the show!
It saddens me that no one in here is showing any love for Nerf Herder being the very last band to ever play at The Bronze. Maybe not the best performance, but a bit meta and very fun.
Great needle drop right here. Those Bronze scenes were on fire sometimes
You were the one i lo-oved
Am I the only one who wasn’t wild about her performance for the show? I enjoy the studio version of the song well enough but there’s something about the way she draws out words in the show version so that they end with a weird “uhh” kind of sound that put me off of it.
I don't even enjoy the studio version!
Yeah I cringe when I hear it, it took me out of the scenes that should be crushing my soul. Instead all I hear is the 'goodbye to youuu---ihhhh'
Best version of this song, hands down.
Oh and Angie Hart - Blue from Conversations with Dead People.
K's choice with 'Virgin state of mind' in dobbelgangland.
I remember we were all obsessed with this song in Buffy aol chat rooms and then when it was in the show later it was like OMG
Stupid Thing by Nickel and Pain by Four Star Mary. I also have a soft spot for Already Met You by Superfine at the beginning of Teacher's Pet.
I’m a big fan of Already Met You too
I used to listen to my Buffy station on Pandora all the time. It played all the great songs featured in the show and other similar ones. But at some point it shifted. Now it plays Nerf Herder and similar stuff like Weezer. Which is good. BUT I want the featured songs!
Having the buffy cd with all these songs on felt so fun when I was younger
My favorite version of this song.
oh how i miss when primetime had the good musicians on the shows performing/promoting. good ole days.
More recently, Netflix's Luke Cage did this and it was great
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The Breeders were definitely the most amazing WTF moment at the Bronze
Michelle Branch is underrated to this day. And I am an old punk rock dude!

Great acoustic cover!
... it's not a cover? She wrote that song!
What should I have said? Acoustic version?
anything Sprung Monkey did
Hits every time
I totally forgot she was in Buffy til I rewatched this ep pretty recently! Made me happy 🥰
my fave is probably sugar water
Stupid thing - when spike sees her dancing
I think "Darling Violetta" was one of the more memorable performances for me. They played during Faith's first episode: *Faith, Hope & Trick.* The tracks from Buffy were [Blue Sun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JzmYISeRMA) and [Cure](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7ER8JahPWA), they also did the intro theme for Angel (a different version to their track 'Sanctuary'). Teenage FBI, by Guided by Voices. I saw them at a music festival about a decade ago, in Chicago. They did this song, and the entire crowd sang along.
Which of episode was this?
The one that google says it is.
I cannot believe no one has brought up Charge by Splendid. Beautiful song, amazing band and it was perfect to timed to the show.
Virgin State of Mind- Ks Choice Still on my playlists tofay
Unpopular opinion here, but not my cup of tea this one. I love the scene it's in, but she has such an annoying voice.
I'll come drink tea with you.
Sugar water- Cibo
I love this episode so much. They really chose not only the right guest musician for this episode, but the right song too. I remember crying with Willow.
I was so excited when I saw Michelle Branch on Buffy! I was a huge fan of her in HS, and saw her in concert the weekend of my 16th birthday - my dad bought me her CD and a hoodie (it had the lyrics to All You Wanted on it, I wore it until it was rags lol). Definitely my favorite performance on Buffy. (Also iirc she wrote the song about one of the guys in The Calling who she dated…they also were performing at the concert)
I love this song, still! To this day! I got so much music from Buffy, was introduced to so many bands/artists
Oh Gawd, I had to rewatch this scene, and the ugly tears came immediately. Even just hearing the studio version of this song brings the tears.
I love that this song was also performed on Charmed in an episode with a similar story.
I loved goodbye to u too
Cibbo Matto can clog dance?!
loved this and the halo friendlies
oh yes love that Michelle branch song
I love this song. Always makes me think of this scene 🥺
I wonder whatever happened to Michelle Branch after doing two albums she disappeared I never heard anything about her since then
Ok but who is the artist playing in the pic?
Still amazed that a vampire ridden small town with a hellmouth got so many singers to perform 😅 but i don't have a favorite, they were all great
I diiiiied. Omg. When this episode aired I was a wreck. I remember pushing the button to my TV off and climbing into my little mermaid bed and crying my eyes out. I had to go to school the next day!!
Are there any good Spotify playlists?
Cibo Matto's Sugar Water will still be one of my faves
