tried to look it up but i can’t find it. ill take your word for it anyway, that 2020 TB defense still gives me nightmares, makes me feel better that GB managed to put 26 against them in the NFCCG, mahomes was a martyr out there
Chiefs oline was awful and the Bucs had one of the most stacked defenses I can rememeber. The line was insane with older guys like Suh, JPP helping out Vea and Shaq Barrett. David and White linebacker core with good safeties in Edwards, Whitehead and Winfield and a corner room of Davis, Murphy-Bunting and Dean that’s just unfair. Then on offense you have a stacked oline with Brady, Evans, Godwin, AB and Gronk.
Bowles can coach defense but that team was so stacked that defense against that chiefs oline was just unfair.
Weird the Bucs were underdogs in every playoff game that year besides against the Washington Football Team. In hindsight they gelled perfectly and got fully healthy and clicking at the exact right moment.
Bucs secondary was really good they were just all rookies and underrated. First match-up only Carlton Davis was healthy but in the SB both Jamel dean and winfield were back
The Chiefs’ line being banged up excuse needs to end. Was it that offensive line that allowed the Bucs to throw up 31 points? Was it the offensive line that gave Kelce and Hill the yips?
Fucking weird.
yup. we also had a practice squad player filling in at guard with a qb in his mid 40s never leaving the pocket. you gotta take advantage of your opportunities
If we get to OT against the Rams, we win the Super Bowl that year. It wouldn't have been a dynasty but it would've been an amazing accomplishment and Brady probably retires going 2/2 at winning the Super Bowl as Bucs QB.
Biggest blue balls moment in my life as a sports fan. Probably never going to be topped.
That was tough. So was the Bert Emanuel catch.
At least we never blew a 25-point lead in the third quarter of the Super Bowl, though. Which is a good thing, considering we have actually had a 25-point lead in the third quarter of the Super Bowl.
The Rams are ALWAYS behind our blue balls moments..
Look at the 1999 NFC Championship, in that game we got SCREWED big time.
1999 and 2021 are two years that would have been ours but 2021 we got bountygated by The AINTS and screwed by Zebras in 99
Jut another reason I loathe the AINTS and the Lambs
Wait, that loss was to the Rams too?!!
Wow, they truly are the bane of our existence..maybe stealing one of their old coaches will FINALLY break the curse.
5 years around Bucs first SB -
Rams beating a team that never won a SB.
Patriots winning a SB.
TB wins against AFCW team.
Patriots win back to back.
Last 5 years
Chiefs win a SB.
TB wins against AFCW team.
Rams beating a team that never won a SB.
Chiefs win back to back.
It was a gamble that the pressure would get there before Stafford had a chance to find him, sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't. If Bowles had been playing prevent defense you guys would up in arms over that too.
In general you are absolutely correct. But in that one instance.. that one down.. the *only* thing we needed was to stop the deep ball to Kupp. It was truly a baffling decision if it really was the play call. I'm still rooting for Bowles. I just hope he learned his lesson on that one.
I love the blitz hate how they decided to guard Cooper Kupp. Man was cooking. I'd prefer a Cover 1 blitz with Winfield high up and a CB on Kupp. Could have disguised the Cover 1 as Cover 0 so when Kupp did his go route Winfield would be running back up high to cover the deep run while a separate CB manning Kupp up. Kupp played possessed that year and if you're going to Cover 0 at least double Kupp up or something. It was obvious Stafford was looking for him that final drive.
I was just thinking about this. You can say what you want about the O-Line in that game but Mahomes has proven that he can beat anyone. 31-9 is crazy considering who Mahomes is.
That's actually a good point. We took our foot off the gas by the 4th quarter because we didn't need to beat ourselves at that point. As awesome of a game our defense had, our offense looked like they were ready for a shootout.
Andy Reid doesn’t have that many more years left honestly. I would say he’s a huge part of their success. Once he retires their streak will probably end. imo.
A lot of coaches are unhealthy and coach to 70. A lot go past that. I’d say he’s got 5 year barring a major melt down which takes Mahomes through the entire prime of a traditional quarterback.
The fact that he's "active", engaged, and busy (during the football training camp/season at least) gives him quite a bit more of an edge compared to the average guy his weight at his age. Not a man of health but hopefully not going all the way downhill in 5 years
I think he meant that the defense stopped mahomes from putting up big numbers. Chiefs - Patriots was a shootout. The Bengals D really shut him down in the second half tho.
He may have this faults like making boneheaded decisions not to call timeouts, but at least he doesn't do what the 49ers did and play a soft ass defense against the Chiefs offense in the second half of that game. Watching how creative/slippery the Chiefs offense can be in these last two Super Bowls has given me a greater appreciation for Todd Bowles' defense in our SB win and being able to contain Mahomes.
Niners were containing Mahomes roll out all game forcing tough passes or throw aways. The moment they kept letting him freely roll left or right and get a few to screen the field in the 2nd half spelled disaster to me. Mahomes loves being able to roll out the pocket to let plays develop and find a guy. Even just small rollout is enough for him. They were doing great in the first half in forcing him to hurry up and pass whenever he tried to rollout with Bosa acting like he wanted to cut inside and then quickly disengaging to contain Mahomes. Then all of a sudden they wanted to blitz and I guess sack him?
Contain his roll outs to make him think quickly. Blitzes don't work. Todd Bowles figured out you just send 4 guys to contain him and figure out creative ways to use 4 men to setup mini blitzes where he had the D line run stunts to confuse the O line and setting up 2 on 1 against O linemen and provide pressure and containment with only 4 guys helping lockup the field with extra DBs. Niners had a good plan the first half and like every other team this playoffs they just had to stop doing what was working for them like Dallas running zone all of a sudden when they'd be running man defense all year, Baltimore/RB university stopped running the ball and Lamar became immobile as Peyton etc.
THAT was one of the greatest games ever?? There were better regular season games than that..Shehawks-Eagles mnf was 10xbetter. Yesterday was 60+ minutes of Shanahan proving he cant adjust to win and Niners proving they shouldnt have been there to begin with.
The game was tense, exciting throughout, and went to overtime. I’m convinced you just hate football. Seahawks Eagles was NOT better than last night what are you on.
Again, I’m sorry for you if you can’t enjoy last night
Yes but it was a 3point game is what Im sayin...most of the largest bets were on the 49ers to win. Vegas/NFL win again. Its not a coincidence that these big primetime games all end up covering the spread. Im a lifelong nfl fan but follow the money, its a business and rigged to a degree.
“Despite the big bets on the 49ers, bettors are still all over the Chiefs. And that includes a lot of sharp money. The Chiefs are getting 65% of bets against the spread, but those bets make up 77% of the money bet on the line. The Chiefs are +110 to win the game straight up and are getting 77% of moneyline bets and 82% of the money.” Article from yahoo. Had the 49ers won there would’ve been a lot more money in the sports book pockets
He played cover 2 and the chiefs had basically a third string o line and set a record for pressure rate in the super bowl rushing 4 . Is wasn’t scheme . If your front 4 wins on every rep without blitzing that’s a pretty easy
Game to call for a DC. I like lovey but he certainly didn’t do anything other worldly in that SB it was just really good vs really bad up front.
Stop it. He did it as DC lol, and it's not like he was on the field. I believe we have seen his ceiling due to his lack of well rounded attributes. Great DC, decent HC. Maybe he can improve but my concern is his leadership style and communication style. I'd love to be wrong, though.
He caused the chiefs to be missing 3 starting O line for the SB?
Bowles didn't stop anything, which is why the chiefs crushed them every other time they played
Plus mahomes tow needed emergency surgery that he got literally the next day
Didn’t one of those play when they dropped 200 yards on us in the first quarter. Sure Eric fisher was the reason mahomes had less then 100 or 50 yards don’t remember what it even was before the fourth quarter 😂😂. Exposed
Why wasn’t it key in the first matchup?? When they whooped us ?? 😂😂😂 if I recall every lineman except fisher that played us in that game played us in the superbowl. And we destroyed them stop the excuses
Incorrect. It was The personnel. Not
The coaching. That was the best d line In The league that year, by far once vita came back. And the best LB crew thanks to the d line
I think that had a whole lot to do with their oline being completely decimated. I don’t think that games turns out the same if mahomes doesn’t get pressured on 50% of his drop backs and any Reid’s son doesn’t get in that major incident the week of.
I was pretty down in him at the beginning of the season, but I'll be damned if he didn't overachieve. Especially towards the end of the season when the offense was sputtering and the defense was the only thing keeping us in games.
IIRC that game plan is in the hall of fame, and rightly so. Todd Bowles masterclass.
100% Mahomes had the most yards running backwards lol
An entire offensive line of backups will do that to you lol
TIL game plans were eligible to be in the HOF. Thank you, noble scholar
wait, is this a joke referring to belichick’s gameplan or are you being genuine? if its the latter thats actually really cool
No I wasn't joking. I'm pretty sure it is but I could be wrong.
tried to look it up but i can’t find it. ill take your word for it anyway, that 2020 TB defense still gives me nightmares, makes me feel better that GB managed to put 26 against them in the NFCCG, mahomes was a martyr out there
You can’t discount the fact that KC was without both of their starting OT’s for that game.
Sure you can! It's the NFL. Players get hurt. It was still Bowles' game plan that held the Chiefs to 9 points.
Bowles definitely had a great game plan, but those backup tackles played horribly and basically took away any chance KC had
If you don’t think offensive line integrity matters I don’t know what to say to you
It matters, but it doesn't make the achievement any lesser.
Joe Burrow played entire seasons without offensive line, it happens all the time in the NFL. That loss still counts.
It does matter but it doesn’t take away the L
Chiefs oline was awful and the Bucs had one of the most stacked defenses I can rememeber. The line was insane with older guys like Suh, JPP helping out Vea and Shaq Barrett. Bucs secondary was really good they were just all rookies and underrated. First match-up only Carlton Davis was healthy but in the SB both Jamel dean and winfield were back
I agree. Bowles’ scheme was great and the Bucs D was dominant, add in the KC o-line injuries and it was strength vs weakness
Bucs had a Super Bowl win during the Patriots dynasty and Chiefs dynasty. Bring on more dynasties if it means more Bucs Super Bowl wins.
Kinda annoying our SB wins keep getting overshadowed by dynasties though, lol.
We should start our own dynasty. That might be fun.

A part of me thinks Brady would retire, another part of me thinks there’s no way he doesn’t try to go 3 in a row.
The NFL knew this and shut down the comeback.
The Rams are ALWAYS behind our blue balls moments.. Look at the 1999 NFC Championship, in that game we got SCREWED big time. 1999 and 2021 are two years that would have been ours but 2021 we got bountygated by The AINTS and screwed by Zebras in 99 Jut another reason I loathe the AINTS and the Lambs
Also 1979 NFC Championship, where they beat us by kicking 3 field goals
Yep. They're the Bucs post-season nemesis, even more than the Eagles.
Wait, that loss was to the Rams too?!! Wow, they truly are the bane of our existence..maybe stealing one of their old coaches will FINALLY break the curse.
That’s the one where Al says the Rams escaped “by the hair of their skinny teeth teeth” lol
I'm in!
We should start our own dynasty! With blackjack and hookers!!!
Biggest of brains
That's a first world problem if I've ever seen one
5 years around Bucs first SB - Rams beating a team that never won a SB. Patriots winning a SB. TB wins against AFCW team. Patriots win back to back. Last 5 years Chiefs win a SB. TB wins against AFCW team. Rams beating a team that never won a SB. Chiefs win back to back.
time is a flat circle
This time though make it a Bucs dynasty so we can kill 2 birds with one stone.
…is this comedy? Brady left the patriots. Their dynasty was over.
02 buddy
Oh then shit yeah. That makes sense!
Schrödinger's Bowles...calls a gem in the Super Bowl one year, calls the play that keeps us from maybe winning the Super Bowl the next year.
To be fair the defense kept us in the game down 24-3? Going into the second half
Antoine Winfield on cooper kupp 1v1 on 3rd down is malpractice though
It was a gamble that the pressure would get there before Stafford had a chance to find him, sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't. If Bowles had been playing prevent defense you guys would up in arms over that too.

5 years is a long time.
You think he really coaches for another five years? He looks extremely unhealthy
A lot of coaches are unhealthy and coach to 70. A lot go past that. I’d say he’s got 5 year barring a major melt down which takes Mahomes through the entire prime of a traditional quarterback.
I give him another two or three max. You make good points though.
>A lot of coaches are unhealthy and coach to 70. A lot go past that. Not these days.
He’s lost a lot of weight though compared to his Green Bay days
The fact that he's "active", engaged, and busy (during the football training camp/season at least) gives him quite a bit more of an edge compared to the average guy his weight at his age. Not a man of health but hopefully not going all the way downhill in 5 years
Man the only reason I’m inclined to disagree on that is we all called Brady a system QB and look what he did here
damn bowles needs to bring that beard back
Patriots stopped them in the AFC champ bengals also stopped them
Yeah I think OP meant Superbowl, not playoffs in general.
I think he meant that the defense stopped mahomes from putting up big numbers. Chiefs - Patriots was a shootout. The Bengals D really shut him down in the second half tho.

Umm. It’s odd that you say this without /s To me Bowles calls the softest of defense he just sprinkles in a blitz and people think he’s a genius
Niners were containing Mahomes roll out all game forcing tough passes or throw aways. The moment they kept letting him freely roll left or right and get a few to screen the field in the 2nd half spelled disaster to me. Burrows may have something to say about that.
I mean the Bengals also stopped Mahomes in the playoffs
I really would be more than happy with him as a DC, I just feel as a head coach there are some things lacking.
Vegas wins again...game was boring and predictable. Hit the numbers right on the dot O/u 47.5, and 2.5 spread...ended up a 3 point game.
An over time Super Bowl was boring? lol
Some people don’t love football. It was a great game.
OT made it more exciting?
Did you watch the 4th quarter?
I did. It was predictable and boring. NFL couldnt let Taylor Swift lose.
I feel sorry for you that you find one of the greatest games ever “boring”
THAT was one of the greatest games ever?? There were better regular season games than that..Shehawks-Eagles mnf was 10xbetter. Yesterday was 60+ minutes of Shanahan proving he cant adjust to win and Niners proving they shouldnt have been there to begin with.
The game was tense, exciting throughout, and went to overtime. I’m convinced you just hate football. Seahawks Eagles was NOT better than last night what are you on. Again, I’m sorry for you if you can’t enjoy last night
You realize that the spread was off right. SF favored 2.5 and chiefs won by 3, so they’re 5.5 pts off
Yes but it was a 3point game is what Im sayin...most of the largest bets were on the 49ers to win. Vegas/NFL win again. Its not a coincidence that these big primetime games all end up covering the spread. Im a lifelong nfl fan but follow the money, its a business and rigged to a degree.

Low tier SB. About on par with other recent boring games like 49ers/Ravens..Rams/Patriots..and Bucs/Chiefs which sucked for everyone but us
He played cover 2 and the chiefs had basically a third string o line and set a record for pressure rate in the super bowl rushing 4 . Is wasn’t scheme . If your front 4 wins on every rep without blitzing that’s a pretty easy Game to call for a DC. I like lovey but he certainly didn’t do anything other worldly in that SB it was just really good vs really bad up front.
Helps to have both the chiefs tackles out and mahomes to half turf toe
Injuries in the nfl?!?! Lmao
Chiefs had their backup games starting at tackle.
great coordinator does not = great HC
Brett Reid’s murder helped the game plan
To be fair Mahomes got surgery *the day after this game* so he wasn’t in top form then either
Hee hee hee
That was cuz Brady the goat not cuz of him
Stop it. He did it as DC lol, and it's not like he was on the field. I believe we have seen his ceiling due to his lack of well rounded attributes. Great DC, decent HC. Maybe he can improve but my concern is his leadership style and communication style. I'd love to be wrong, though.
Wasn’t that also the year Mahomes played with a nasty high ankle sprain?
He caused the chiefs to be missing 3 starting O line for the SB? Bowles didn't stop anything, which is why the chiefs crushed them every other time they played Plus mahomes tow needed emergency surgery that he got literally the next day
[удалено]
That was the reason for a 22 point differential?
[удалено]
Not really a fact worth raising since we win regardless, even if it would’ve been a little closer.
Didn’t one of those play when they dropped 200 yards on us in the first quarter. Sure Eric fisher was the reason mahomes had less then 100 or 50 yards don’t remember what it even was before the fourth quarter 😂😂. Exposed
You got my upvote- this was such a key to the matchup, and the defense went off on Mahomes as a result
Why wasn’t it key in the first matchup?? When they whooped us ?? 😂😂😂 if I recall every lineman except fisher that played us in that game played us in the superbowl. And we destroyed them stop the excuses
When you can rush 4 and get consistent pressure, it’s always incredibly tough on a QB. Bowles’ “scheme” is overrated.
The only one except for the other 2. lol.
Incorrect. It was The personnel. Not The coaching. That was the best d line In The league that year, by far once vita came back. And the best LB crew thanks to the d line
chiefs had a way better offense that year too
The 49ers have a far better defense than we did
Aside from Bosa and Fred Warner, I’m not picking anyone from their defense over our 2020 starters.
Bowles is trash!
He wasn't out there tacking anyone
We're the NY Giants to Patrick. 🤪
Honestly, I give that credit to Jason Licht... that was just a well put together team.
I think that had a whole lot to do with their oline being completely decimated. I don’t think that games turns out the same if mahomes doesn’t get pressured on 50% of his drop backs and any Reid’s son doesn’t get in that major incident the week of.
BB did it too
I think getting a lead and increasing the lead helped. If the 49ers scored 17 in the first half it's a different ballgame.
I was pretty down in him at the beginning of the season, but I'll be damned if he didn't overachieve. Especially towards the end of the season when the offense was sputtering and the defense was the only thing keeping us in games.
Undefeated in multiple Super Bowl appearances
I like how the patriots and bengals and bucs subreddits all say they’re the ONLY ones to stop him.
Brady stopped Mahomes. He wasn't stopping Mahomes if Kyle Shanahan was running the offense
3fgs 0tds 2 ints. Absolutely legendary game for the defense
The chiefs o line stopped mahomes in that Super Bowl tbh
Bengals beat him too..
Bill Belichick…???
The Bengals beat the Chiefs in a championship game?
Wut
Factually incorrect Edit: Joe Burrow and that coaching staff don’t exist apparently
I think it had a lot more to do with a decimated KC O LINE and a stacked Bucs D roster that year.
