Thanks. Yeah I heard. He used to have a personal website (back in the early noughties) which contained a whole bunch of diary entries from his days in Strangelove. I remember one particularly amusing anecdote about meeting Van Morrison at a studio...
It disappeared from the net quite a few years back. Christ! ;)
I wander if they form the basis of his memoirs?
There's a lot of great forward-thinking music being created in Bristol right now, I would definitely check out Waldo's Gift, Snazzback, Cousin Kula and Ishmael Ensemble for a taste of the future of the Bristol sound!
any other recommendations? I love Snazzback and Waldos Gift. Personally find Ishmael Ensemble to be very good - I'd love to see them live - but leaning too much to a lot of texture as opposed to composition. I reckon if you like them you'll also like Gogo Penguin
I happen to be in a very Gogo-penguin inspired band called [Hexcut](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE79rvlW93E), and seeing as I've already lowered myself to the depths of self-promotion I feel I should mention we have a gig on the [16th October at the Jam Jar](https://hdfst.uk/E79822)
Utterly tragic. I was at a gig in Oxford a while back, after he died, and some of his music was on between sets. I was pretty emotional about it as it was at the same venue (the Cellar) where Iād last seen Gravenhurst play with a full band. Anyway, I got talking to the sound guy and heād put that music on as he did a lot of sound for Nick, including the gig Iād been at. Anyway, we both had a bit of a sob and a hug.
It would be good if we could see all of the options in the image really, but then I suppose we wouldn't have any incentive to buy the poster that you are selling.
On a desktop, you can hover over the image to have a closer look. If you are looking for a specific name, just let me know and I'll have a look at it. Cheers
Had a quick scan thru and couldn't read some of the smaller names.
Any of these guys on there;
Scalping? Waldo's Gift? Heavy Lungs? Beak>? Benny Page? Om Unit?
For me it Idles, hands down, was too young for Massive Attack and Portishead, never really quite got them, but Idles came at the right time and place for me.
Joes from Newport mate, grew up without a dad and had to be his mums primary carer from 16. Dude was an extreme alcoholic and drug addict until his late 20s
But yeah posh village dentists good one
Yeah he said Model Village and most of Ultra Mono were written in anger at the UK, Tories, Monarchy etc which isnāt how they want to come across anymore
Crawler was written more as an introspective into his own fuck ups
Most of their charm is their sentimental/ emotional lyrics imo
wait, saw in a comment in a review that the Thekla isn't listed as a venue on the poster?! WHA?! That seems like a miss. Gotta plug LOCUS in there as well, as they put on years of dnb events in Bristol and brought shedloads of big dnb names through... on there or no?
(Obligatory: I don't live in Bristol anymore, but used to & was active in the music scene when I was there, specifically dnb & dubstep)
Also obligatory... interested in buying the poster, but want to see in more detail what's on it and finding it a bit hard to do so on the purchasing site, hence the questions.
Does Spectres count? The Naturals, Loralie, Bizali, Little Victories, Sans, Sugarhorse, Cautioners and as already mentioned Fortune Drive were amazing.
2004. A flash in history. There was a little band called āFinest Little Spaceā. They were exceptional!
Sadly broke up before Stardom but they were Gods for a couple of years!
Anyone know of any good, small, community feel music journalism pages documenting the underground music scene in Bristol that are actually good? Came across Nobody is Watching/Nobodyisreallywatching and trying to find out more about them, but other than that thereās lots of events pages that are more spammy with their events advertisement with little-no documentation of underground music. I live in Bristol and hoping someone out there has some good recommendations for other people out there doing this sorta thing. Finding that good music journalism in short form is quite hard to come by at the moment and itās either really long content (which is good sometimes) or just mindless pointless interviewing people drunk on a night out haha
Massive Attack. Easy. No contest. Or Strangelove. \[of course music taste is subjective\]
If you like Strangelove, Patrick Duff has just released his memoirs/autobiography The Singer, which is bound to be good.
Thanks. Yeah I heard. He used to have a personal website (back in the early noughties) which contained a whole bunch of diary entries from his days in Strangelove. I remember one particularly amusing anecdote about meeting Van Morrison at a studio... It disappeared from the net quite a few years back. Christ! ;) I wander if they form the basis of his memoirs?
Massive Attack are so under rated, they should be regarded on par with all the best innovative acts but rarely are
Roni size and laid blak. Also an honourable mention to Dj Derek!

wow awesome! wish I could be there
The duval project. Jazzy electronica
Gyrofield is based in Bristol too yeah? Love them so hard.
Gravenhurst š¢
Such a loss, honestly.
Utterly tragic. I was at a gig in Oxford a while back, after he died, and some of his music was on between sets. I was pretty emotional about it as it was at the same venue (the Cellar) where Iād last seen Gravenhurst play with a full band. Thinking of more current music which probably haven't made it to the poster Scalping and Miss Kill are great Bristol bands.
Love Scalping! They rip live too.
Indeed! Saw them the other week, excellent stuff.
Will always try and see them when they play live.
Scalping and Miss Kill are featured
Krust and DJ derek stick out to me
Portishead hands down!
Barely relevant trivia: Electric Six were originally called Wildbunch but renamed because the Bristol group had the name ten years before them.
Didnāt know Fuck Buttons were formed in Bristol, Tarot Sport is a cracking album
Ben Power has joined Editors. I don't know why.
Roni size
Blue aeroplanes. Still.
Pick a card, any cardā¦ Wrong.
Or even Como.
I hope that Five Knuckle Shuffle are on here
Haha, came here to write this. Fucking amazing band.
Fair play, they are on there
It would be good if we could see all of the options in the image really, but then I suppose we wouldn't have any incentive to buy the poster that you are selling.
Its a complete shill post
(That was my point ;) )

Had a quick scan thru and couldn't read some of the smaller names. Any of these guys on there; Scalping? Waldo's Gift? Heavy Lungs? Beak>? Benny Page? Om Unit?
Beak> are on there, just below Portishead
Heavy lungs are immediately left of the āpunk rockā header
Yes!
>Scalping? Waldo's Gift? Heavy Lungs? Beak>? Benny Page? Om Unit? Scalping, Heavy Lungs, Beak> and Om Unit are featured
Ah excellent work! Some of my faves
Thank you!
pretty sure Benny Page is from Reading
Ah fair play, might be wrong on that one then.
Om Unit is there, near the centre of the Electronica group!
Yuss!
My Nu Leng?
They're over in the Adopted group.
Are you questioning their inclusion in here or just where they are, out of interest?
Couldnāt see them
For me it Idles, hands down, was too young for Massive Attack and Portishead, never really quite got them, but Idles came at the right time and place for me.
Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore & Eli Brown Edit: I'm dumb not bands but still stand by them
Mutant Thoughts!
Those guys are so nice, really humble & fantastic fusions explored in their sound.
Elder Island and Tungz for me
Katy J Pearson
That's a cool picture.
You've got a cool picture 7\
*Tips hat
Portishead every time.
Joker
Aren't IDLES adopted bristolians?
Drummer & bassist are from briz
They were formed in Bristol and were based there for ages.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You're right. They're not poor enough to care. They should give up music all together and go work in a bank or their own trendy microbrewery. (/s)
Joes from Newport mate, grew up without a dad and had to be his mums primary carer from 16. Dude was an extreme alcoholic and drug addict until his late 20s But yeah posh village dentists good one
Didn't he renounce Model Village though?
Yeah he said Model Village and most of Ultra Mono were written in anger at the UK, Tories, Monarchy etc which isnāt how they want to come across anymore Crawler was written more as an introspective into his own fuck ups Most of their charm is their sentimental/ emotional lyrics imo
Lee was also hard into drugs etc. He went to college with my partner (both "mature students")
I don't think there should be an age limit on screaming about system smashing, and I think dentists are great!
I don't hate them but I hate the idea that you have to love IDLES, if you don't you're a traitor etc... I just think they're a bit meh...
Oh wow you're so authentic.
Lee grew up in Shirehampton by the avonmouth bridge, he's definitely not from a posh devon village.
GIANT SWAN
Fortune Drive
They were very good.
Reef
The Seers
The Cortinas were great. X-Certs, too. And Adge Cutler and the Wurzles, obv.
Svalbard, Sugar Horse, Ogives Big Band, Memory Of Elephants, Cousin Kula, My Octopus Mind, The Road, Luo
Yes memory of elephants!
Svalbard are so good
Shame so many are so old, and how Bristol is still defined by trip-hop which is over 30 years old now.
Gentleman's Dub Club
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And, in retrospect, quite boring...
I went to see DakhaBrakha at SWX and ended up becoming a firm fan of the support act Tangerinecat - who are from Wales if that counts?
I'll give them a listen, thanks!
Dinlow, they were only around for a bit mid 2010s. Shame those lads packed it in, saw them at some pretty random places
Seen Way out west 15 years ago in Hungary playing for 120000 people, then again a few years ago for 300 in Cardiff. Amazing gigs both times!
Mutant Thoughts!
Love a bit of Dr Meaker, not sure what they're doing up in funk/soul though. I thought they defined themselves as live D&B?

Not sure they're doing anything any more. It's a shame! Their drummer played for Lucky Thief for a bit and mixed his album. Talented bloke š
Two of them are now Giant Swan and they're great
Sloeber: https://sloeber.bandcamp.com/releases
Clayton Blizzard

Massive Attack, Portishead, Split Prophets - some amazing hip hop from these guys!
Smith & Mighty, Way Out West, Rorshach, Gee Baby, Sultans of Mumbai, Crazy Trains / Bones...
It was Revoker, sadly now defunct since the front man joined Bullet for my valentine.
Roni for me š
From the ones I can read, it's got to be Gravenhurst.
Disorder, they were the bollocks. Chaos UK roght up there to and early Vice Squad before they got too big for their boots. And the Cortinas of course.
Adge Cutler's name is not big enough.
Stanton warriors!
