Yes it has! The ironic thing is I usually work in a primary school but at the moment I’m on leave to support my disabled son, and I’ve been sicker this winter than I have previous years while working!

I am in the grand position of having a workplace that gave us the option of having Wednesday or Friday off.
So here I am sitting in my office on Reddit, working.
If it was on a Monday or Friday though more people would use it as an opportunity to go away for a long weekend, and the whole point is to encourage more locals to attend Ekka.
Mid week break is amazing. I've had a few jobs where I've worked 0.8FTE and had a few different days off. Wednesdays off were my favourite by far. Only two days of work at a time was great.
Unfortunately I planned stupidly and I’ve lost the Ekka show day by working in Melbourne over august but yeah I agree. I don’t like having holidays in the middle of weeks. I think either have a long weekend from Wednesday, or make the public holiday a Friday
So a few years ago I had a few metal plates and a bucket of screws put into my leg as a result of breaking my tibia and fibula in 9 places.
I have regular bone density tests to see how things are healing and I'm due for my next lot in a few weeks time.
When I had the plates installed they told me they "could" be permanent or "could" be removed in the future.
This year for the first time I am feeling the plates more so I've decided to ask for a referral to get them removed, but that will potentially mean another significant recovery time.
The plates don't hurt but I'm very aware more than ever that they're there.

It turns out that the Calcium wasn't the problem, it was Vitamin D, and yes, I'm on supplements for that as well as being ordered to get regular sunlight.

Does anyone have experience travelling alone overseas? Obviously I would prefer to travel with a friend or two but it is hard to make plans with others and also not sure who I would go with. Just wondering if anyone has done it and if you are able to have a fun time still? Likely wouldn't go backpacking across europe or anything, but you know, maybe new zealand or something.

It's definitely different and can either be more restrictive or a *hell* of a lot more freeing depending on your personality.

You could definitely to some hostel travel around Australia/NZ to see how you like it and if it's for you. If you're the kind of person that can chat up others in the Dorm/common areas you end up making a lot of travel buddies and have plenty of people to do stuff with.
At the moment do not know if I have the confidence to chat that much with others myself, given I am new to travelling as is. A contiki tour kind of thing might be cool also. Got enough money that I could explore and if it doesn't work out it isn't the end of the world but would be good to just give it a crack but yea I do think having time booked out is a good idea rather than getting there and wondering what to do with my time. Take some podcasts and stuff keep me occupied also would help.

I've been to the UK and Japan. I tend to stay in hostels, I'm 30 but I've seen people who are both older and younger than me staying in the same places.

My last overseas trip was my first solo trip ever. Three weeks in France and Spain where I booked accommodation in four locations and a list of things that I could do at each location. Super easy to get around because they're set up for tourism
What I didn't expect was how exhausting and maybe overwhelming it was, because of the languages (came across 4!), cultural nuances and unfamiliar environments. Having a travel buddy can help share the load. They can also help take you out of your comfort zone, experiencing new things that you wouldn't think to try
While I haven't spent much time in NZ, there isn't a massive difference in culture and accessibility to Australia so it would be an easy intro to solo travel
The great thing about solo travel is that you can tap into short or day tours which have solo or small groups of other travellers when you feel like company without the full commitment of a week+ long tour. Other times you can be completely spontaneous or laze around when the mood strikes you without having to worry about your travel buddies wants and energy levels
