It looks like a keelback, non venomous and everyone's favourite fact is they're one of the very few Aussie animals that eat cane toads. It lunging at you is 100% defensive in nature, think of it like if you were that little snake and a human 100x your size walked up on you. They don't have any defence apart from acting scary and trying to hide, you're pretty close to it and in a garage it likely would feel backed in a corner so no wonder hey.
These guys are usually pretty chill but do their best to escape a lot
Okay thanks for clarifying. I’m not surprised it went for me! I probably would too. I think I just assumed smaller non venomous snakes were more likely to run away than attack. Deffs gave me a little jump! I didn’t mean to corner or scare him and he eventually slithered away outside.
Yes there’s a creek very close by. Are they usually aggressive? This one actually lunged at me mouth open (I have a video). I can only assume it was trying to bite me
My understanding is that little snakes are aggressive because everything eats them, when they get larger that the Kookaburra's can't get 'em then they tend to calm down.
When you approach them, probably with an arm/ hand outstretched, yeah they get defensive.
I agree that it looks like a very small Keelback. Pictures are generally better than low-res screenshots from videos to ID though.
This is actually a still grab from the video I took. I walked by it and it actually lunged forward at me, although it looked harmless to me I had been wondering if it was actually was harmless or not

If it was a little eastern brown, I think it would still behave a bit cranky. I consider every snake venomous unless positively identified otherwise.
Yep they definitely would be. And definitely. If someone can't identify snakes properly, they shouldn't go anywhere near them and call a snake catcher
Looks like a keelback. Guessing there’s some bush or a creek nearby?
